00:00:02.820 --> 00:00:26.780
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, metal's my religion, and yeah, it's my dope. Standing in the thunder on stage in the pouring metal rain. What a feeling, baby, the lights are exploding.

00:00:56.640 --> 00:00:58.660
Hello and welcome to the Metalheads Podcast.

00:00:58.740 --> 00:01:26.800
My name is George. And this is Buke. And this is Jay. This is Will. And I'm John. And this is our year-end episode number 40. 40 is not exactly an auspicious number, but every time we hit a new, you know, whatever the fuck you call it, whatever 40 is, you know, whenever there's a new zero up there, I get a little excited. So yeah, every time you get a factor of 10. Factor of 10. Thank you. That's what I was looking for.

00:01:28.740 --> 00:01:29.360
I have some.

00:01:30.480 --> 00:01:30.920
Well done.

00:01:31.630 --> 00:01:33.480
The 40 is the new 30, George.

00:01:33.780 --> 00:01:34.260
Exactly.

00:01:34.880 --> 00:01:35.160
Exactly.

00:01:35.740 --> 00:01:39.760
So we're celebrating that and the year end.

00:01:40.260 --> 00:01:45.240
This episode, we're going to be doing our top 25 albums of 2015.

00:01:46.060 --> 00:01:49.960
If you've heard any of our lists previously, you know that's going to run a long fucking time.

00:01:50.640 --> 00:01:53.380
So we've sort of trimmed some of the fat off of this episode.

00:01:53.570 --> 00:01:57.460
We're going to do away with most of the segments that we normally do.

00:01:58.120 --> 00:01:59.100
You know the news

00:01:59.540 --> 00:02:00.680
I looked through it

00:02:00.760 --> 00:02:01.620
There really wasn't much worth

00:02:02.420 --> 00:02:02.800
Talking about

00:02:03.880 --> 00:02:06.240
And I covered the rest of the new releases

00:02:06.480 --> 00:02:07.120
For the rest of the year

00:02:07.120 --> 00:02:07.940
On the last episode

00:02:08.220 --> 00:02:09.619
So we're good there

00:02:10.620 --> 00:02:11.020
So

00:02:11.180 --> 00:02:12.300
The one thing that's a little disappointing

00:02:12.380 --> 00:02:13.440
Is that I do actually really

00:02:13.920 --> 00:02:15.260
Enjoy listening to all the little

00:02:16.300 --> 00:02:16.800
The drops

00:02:16.920 --> 00:02:17.420
Like what

00:02:17.780 --> 00:02:18.880
Are you listening to

00:02:19.120 --> 00:02:20.900
Like the stuff that Jay's band does

00:02:21.060 --> 00:02:21.440
It's actually

00:02:21.780 --> 00:02:22.960
Again I'm stuck in my head

00:02:23.080 --> 00:02:23.300
Yeah

00:02:23.520 --> 00:02:23.660
Yeah

00:02:24.240 --> 00:02:25.800
It's because Jay writes good

00:02:27.680 --> 00:02:28.080
Snippets

00:02:28.100 --> 00:02:58.060
Your new career, just writing little metal snippets. That should be the record of the year, I think. Metal snippets. You thought Anal Cut did short albums. This is Catatonic Society and Metalhead snippets. It's all of a minute and a half long. We're going to talk about a few things first, and then we're going to get into the list, and we're just going to see where this takes us. We are on a mostly

00:02:58.100 --> 00:03:27.780
Guided Course Today and we're just going to drink beer, talk to metal and have some fun. So as always, when our good friends come, they have come bearing gifts of beer. First one we're starting with, Will, John, what's the first one, guys? This is Hardywood, gingerbread stout, bourbon barrel aged from 2014. And Will wanted to start with the big one first so that we remember it. Yeah, let's start with the,

00:03:28.100 --> 00:03:57.640
Start with the beer that's the best beer so by the time we're at the end we'll just save like Iron Manage Trooper for the end or something. You'll bust out the Coors Light and we'll be good to go. This is our festive beer. One of a couple festive beers for the holidays. Hardywood. So all the beers we brought are pretty much, they're literally either metal beers for bands or they're from a brewery that does all the metal beers. Yeah, so. Yeah, I just brought Hardywood brewing down in Richmond.

00:03:58.100 --> 00:04:26.720
Gingerbread Stout. It's the bourbon barrel-aged version from 2014. Didn't even waste my time going to get the 15 that just came out. Did it come out already? Yeah, I think the other day. I wasn't going to waste my time fighting with housewives and dudes that don't work. So I figured I'd bring this over as a little festive beer to get it started. Cheers, gentlemen. Mine's gone, but cool. Cheers. Cheers, Jay.

00:04:28.100 --> 00:04:38.240
You guys are part of this machine.

00:04:38.920 --> 00:04:43.640
With a new website and stuff, you're not going to see content from me.

00:04:44.200 --> 00:04:46.620
But I expect you guys to help pick up that slack now.

00:04:46.880 --> 00:04:49.180
The first content will be coming any day.

00:04:51.140 --> 00:04:54.620
I'm going to be mostly contributing to reviews of heavy metal beers.

00:04:55.580 --> 00:04:56.800
Oh, right on. That's a good idea.

00:04:56.960 --> 00:05:26.860
So the first one, I have it most written. In fact, I could probably even give it to you and you can edit it or whatever, but it's going to be a three Floyd made of beer for Campbell Corps called Amber Smash Face, which we will actually be drinking later today. That's awesome. And John, I hope you can expect you to write some if you want. I have written one so far. More. Yeah, he's like 100% more than you. And I have been working on one that has somehow fallen through the cracks. There should be a tab on the web.

00:05:26.980 --> 00:05:56.860
So Butte can contribute, but nobody edited it. Just let Butte write it. It'll be the comedy center. It'll be an embedded paint program where he can just scribble on the wall. Me write pity. This is Jay. This picture's Jay. I'm sorry. It's okay. It's okay. Payback's part of my reality. My reviews can be simple like thumb up, thumb down,

00:05:57.640 --> 00:05:58.820
That's it. Two thumbs for better.

00:06:01.540 --> 00:06:02.980
I remember you had three thumbs.

00:06:05.820 --> 00:06:06.300
That's it.

00:06:06.720 --> 00:06:12.940
So last night, Buk and I went down to Fairwinds Brewery in Virginia.

00:06:14.000 --> 00:06:15.780
We just happened to see Will and John there.

00:06:16.640 --> 00:06:20.320
Specifically because Will was doing another one of his Brutality at the Breweries.

00:06:20.740 --> 00:06:22.240
This one is the number three.

00:06:22.900 --> 00:06:24.220
Brutality at the Brewery three.

00:06:24.740 --> 00:06:26.240
I'll let him tell you a little about that.

00:06:26.280 --> 00:06:56.220
Oh, that's right. Yeah. So if you're a regular listener to the podcast, then you've obviously heard us talk about it. Yeah. So whenever I do the Brutality to Brewery, I always team up with Chris from dcheavymetal.com. He's always my co-host, been my co-host for the last several years when I did this at the previous brewery and now at Fairwinds. And what we're doing differently at Fairwinds is every time I do it, I'm featuring a different band and I'm making a beer for the band. So last night, I made a beer for my buddies in Gloom. You can find them on Twitter. I think it's Gloom.

00:06:56.300 --> 00:06:56.680
D.C.

00:06:57.840 --> 00:06:58.840
They're also on Bandcamp.

00:06:58.880 --> 00:06:59.600
You can check them out there.

00:06:59.760 --> 00:07:03.600
They're going to have a new full-length album coming out pretty soon.

00:07:04.680 --> 00:07:09.040
Last night, they were kind enough to give us a taste of two of the songs,

00:07:10.740 --> 00:07:13.700
which are, in Bukes' word, amazing.

00:07:14.840 --> 00:07:15.340
But they really were.

00:07:16.139 --> 00:07:17.100
They're huge!

00:07:17.600 --> 00:07:17.760
Huge!

00:07:20.120 --> 00:07:22.340
They're a blackened death metal band.

00:07:23.300 --> 00:07:24.420
Some of the new stuff,

00:07:24.960 --> 00:07:28.960
It reminded me a lot of the new stuff reminds me a little bit of

00:07:29.400 --> 00:07:31.660
Job for Cowboys last album, Sun Eater. It's a little

00:07:32.340 --> 00:07:36.020
little doomier than some of the previous stuff that I've heard him do.

00:07:36.780 --> 00:07:41.020
But it was great. Huge turnout. All the guys from the bands are there.

00:07:41.880 --> 00:07:45.700
People from other bands were there. A lot of other brewers from the area were there.

00:07:46.120 --> 00:07:54.920
So it was a full house. And so if you can hear my voice, not only do I have a cold, but

00:07:55.539 --> 00:08:24.600
talking last night to a gazillion people, but it was great. Yeah, my voice left me pretty quickly last night. Yeah. And so we actually do an interview with Bill and Albert. That's right, Albert from Yesterday Saints, who is also the drummer for Gloom. Buke and I do an interview with them. It's mostly Buke because I was a diva and I was saving my voice for today. And that's why you're drinking tea.

00:08:24.940 --> 00:08:52.620
And beer. I've been drinking tea all morning trying to repair my throat. As it is, I expect my voice to be just horrible halfway through the episode from talking. But yeah, I'm moving on from tea to beer now. A lot of beer. A lot of good beer. So I made a beer for the band last night called Iron Tongue. It was a black wit, which absolutely makes no sense. So a wit beer is a Belgian-style white beer. Wit means white.

00:08:54.940 --> 00:09:24.900
Bulk. Belgianese? I think it's actually Belgianese. Yeah, Flemish. So the white part comes because it's a lot of wheat in the beer. So this was about 30% wheat, raw wheat in the beer. But like every single beer I make for every single band, they're like, hey, let's take this style. Wait a minute, we're a metal band. We need to make it black. So for King Giant MA, they said, we want an English style pale ale, but make it black. Yesterday's States, like, we want a cold

00:09:26.560 --> 00:09:27.280
and smokey.

00:09:28.520 --> 00:09:31.040
And then the ultimate one is with the gloom beer.

00:09:31.040 --> 00:09:32.760
It's like, we really like wheat beers.

00:09:33.030 --> 00:09:33.640
We like whip beers.

00:09:34.270 --> 00:09:35.060
But can you make it black?

00:09:36.120 --> 00:09:36.900
Is that a challenge?

00:09:37.120 --> 00:09:38.720
It's a challenge to get it right.

00:09:38.780 --> 00:09:40.240
It just depends on how you want to do it.

00:09:40.250 --> 00:09:48.440
You can either, do you want it just to be the color black and still have all the regular flavors of the normal style?

00:09:48.630 --> 00:09:49.820
So do you want to taste like a whip beer?

00:09:49.830 --> 00:09:50.800
We just have black in color.

00:09:50.910 --> 00:09:52.180
And there's ways to cheat.

00:09:52.190 --> 00:09:53.140
You can literally just add color.

00:09:53.780 --> 00:09:54.460
I never do that.

00:09:55.880 --> 00:10:23.460
But the trick or the artistry there, not artistry, it sounds pompous, but the trick is how you get the color in there without leaving undesirable flavors like too much roasted or smoky flavors depending upon what kind of malt you use to darken it up. But I use chocolate wheat in this one. So it turned out well. It was like 7.5%. So can we get a red beer but black?

00:10:23.520 --> 00:10:52.020
Yeah, exactly. Well, we really like Irish Reds, but can you make it black? That's what we want. We want a St. Paddy's Day beer. We want something that's green, but black. We want a stout. I will make you guys one, don't worry. If you're going to make a stout, it needs to be one of those clear white stouts. Yeah. I was thinking we should go the opposite. I want a really dark imperial stout that's like clear. Looks like water. Like a nice Coors Light. Yeah.

00:10:54.000 --> 00:11:22.460
Here's your 32 pack. That'll be $7. For you say, you know, making beers, there's tricks to make it dark or black. Can you take a stout, which, you know, you see the one we're drinking now. Can you make a light and clear stout? Well, Stone did, I think, didn't it? I think there's, I'm not sure because as I'm thinking about this in my mind right now, technically,

00:11:23.500 --> 00:11:51.520
The difference between a stout and a porter is the inclusion of roasted barley. So this is barley that's literally just picked off the stalk or the grain and it doesn't go through the malting process. They just roast the crap out of it and they make it pitch black. And then so the inclusion of that ingredient into like a normal beer with your chocolate malts and your brown malt and your malted roasted barley, the inclusion of that is what makes it a stout.

00:11:53.540 --> 00:12:21.060
it's black in color. So you put that in it, it's going to make it black. Could you maybe include just a little bit of bleach? Yeah. So I think I've heard that there is these blonde stouts out there, but I'm like, well, they just put a touch of it in there or something? I had something from Stone, and it's a little lighter. I mean, did it taste like a stout? Mm-hmm. But the color was lighter. But it was lighter, yeah. Was it still brown? I don't remember.

00:12:23.520 --> 00:12:53.040
Striper, Imperial style. Yeah, it had a zebra feel, okay? I think last night was a success. Definitely more people last night than nothing against yesterday's Saints night. But I think because of timing or whatever else was going on. It was August, so everybody was on vacation. And when I make the Facebook event page, you know, there's always jerks like Jay who never shows up, but I invite him every time. You had more press this time.

00:12:53.520 --> 00:13:23.220
Yeah, actually, Fritz Hahn from the Washington Post wrote it up, and he actually showed up last night. He was there. I think that was the first time I met him, but he's written up some of the metal nights or the metal beers that we've done. Which guy was he? He was the one wearing the... He had brown hair or beard. I think he had glasses, but he was wearing the D.C. Brow Trooper shirt. Okay, I saw that guy. Good guy. First time I met him. Yeah, I was wondering. I saw that when you posted that on the Washington Post, and I was like, damn, it's going to be busy.

00:13:23.500 --> 00:13:24.320
And it was.

00:13:25.300 --> 00:13:27.500
There was definitely a lot of people there I didn't know last night.

00:13:27.740 --> 00:13:28.180
Which is good.

00:13:28.220 --> 00:13:29.700
It means the word's getting around when people came.

00:13:29.940 --> 00:13:36.800
Basically it's all about having fun and getting metalheads together and drinking beer and hanging out with my friends.

00:13:37.540 --> 00:13:37.720
Yeah.

00:13:37.920 --> 00:13:41.540
And like I said, we did an interview with Bill and Albert from Gloom.

00:13:42.179 --> 00:13:44.280
And we'll be playing that for you shortly.

00:13:44.660 --> 00:13:47.240
After the interview, I was talking to Bill.

00:13:47.940 --> 00:14:17.740
And he was very responsive, eager, in fact, to come on, you know, come down and come on a show probably, you know, sometime next year once the album drops so we can help him plug that. Dude, you gotta have one. He's like one of the, him, the whole band, they're like the nicest dudes. He was incredibly nice. Yeah. And what's great is they had all three of their drummers there last night. Really? Yeah. Patrick, who's a guy who drummed, I think, on the actual upcoming album. He left the band.

00:14:18.140 --> 00:14:47.080
And then I forget his name. And then this guy Albert. Yeah. But the guy who was the original drummer, I think he came back into the band. So maybe he was the drummer on the album. I forget. But anyway, but all three drummers are there, which I think is a testament to the just cool, nice guys. And, you know, you may leave the band, but. Still part of the family. And Patrick, while he was still in the band, he's the one along with Bill and some of the other guys. But Patrick was the one to help sort of.

00:14:47.940 --> 00:15:17.300
You know, give the yay or nay and develop the recipe for the beer. So it was great. I'm glad he was able to come out and drink it. Nice. Glad to see you can make beer for your podcast friends. You know, it's nice. I've heard that Gloomcast, right? Did it have 40 episodes? Yeah. I should read you. I always love reading our texts on air. But yeah, they've been harassing me to make a Metalheads podcast beer. Well, when you make it, maybe you can have your Metalheads podcast t-shirt on when you're making the beer. So,

00:15:17.920 --> 00:15:18.720
So they're like,

00:15:19.290 --> 00:15:19.380
oh,

00:15:19.540 --> 00:15:20.640
so what has Gloom done for you?

00:15:20.650 --> 00:15:20.960
I'm like,

00:15:21.000 --> 00:15:21.220
well,

00:15:21.660 --> 00:15:22.500
they've given me a hoodie.

00:15:22.700 --> 00:15:23.260
They've given me a,

00:15:23.500 --> 00:15:24.420
several t-shirts,

00:15:24.660 --> 00:15:25.060
a hat,

00:15:25.300 --> 00:15:25.680
some stickers.

00:15:25.950 --> 00:15:28.260
They actually come to the brewery more often than you guys do.

00:15:28.840 --> 00:15:31.160
And I'm still waiting for my Metalhead podcast t-shirt.

00:15:31.500 --> 00:15:31.760
Yup.

00:15:31.920 --> 00:15:35.620
And that's because we don't really wear ours,

00:15:36.100 --> 00:15:36.360
you know,

00:15:36.760 --> 00:15:37.380
because they don't fit.

00:15:37.720 --> 00:15:37.980
No,

00:15:38.280 --> 00:15:39.540
it's just that we don't wear them.

00:15:39.570 --> 00:15:39.820
You know,

00:15:40.270 --> 00:15:41.140
I just think that the,

00:15:41.300 --> 00:15:41.480
you know,

00:15:41.600 --> 00:15:45.180
they do the first wear straight out of the merch table.

00:15:45.380 --> 00:15:45.820
It's great.

00:15:46.260 --> 00:16:16.100
But subsequent wearing, so my go. Do I have to? It's because the shirt's shrinking the dryer, right? Yes. But I think what needs to happen is we need to design a cooler looking shirt so that people want to wear it more. The problem with the logos and the shirts George have made, while I love the design and logos we've had, a lot of the companies that we can go with online are one of those, in a sense,

00:16:16.260 --> 00:16:46.080
Like a clip art, make your own shirt type of thing. And it doesn't look like this cool Winterfellas shirt or Emperor shirt. It doesn't look like a normal merch band shirt. Some of them do. I mean, I've been using custom ink for the last few, and they do a good job. It's just, you know, our artwork isn't all that interesting on a t-shirt. And given, you know, that we're not ordering it in bulk, it costs like $40 some odd.

00:16:46.260 --> 00:17:16.199
for a t-shirt. And so I haven't been ordering them because I'm like, if we don't even like wearing them, why is anybody else going to want to wear them? So I've been looking to contract some art and logos to work on some new merch and just haven't gotten around to it yet. So that's why I held off. I didn't want to give you something that you wouldn't want to wear. We need a motto too, George. Something cool to put on this shirt that's funny or something, you know? Yeah, like, we like beer. Beer fuel.

00:17:18.760 --> 00:17:46.140
While we're also talking about merch and stuff like that, I did want to extend again a thanks to John's wife. John came in bearing gifts today. His wife has made us custom coasters with our sticker kind of underneath laminate on them. They look slick. Yeah. So thank you. They're pretty awesome. Yeah, she loves doing this stuff. What's that? They'll get used well, I'm sure. Yes. Oh, definitely. I've been using mine all week. And also, on the quick side note, Jay hasn't hit us.

00:17:48.260 --> 00:17:49.220
I haven't.

00:17:49.220 --> 00:17:49.860
But you know what?

00:17:50.160 --> 00:17:52.680
I can't afford those large, large, large, large sizes, dude.

00:17:53.340 --> 00:17:54.860
It's only like $5 more.

00:17:55.320 --> 00:17:55.620
Exactly.

00:17:56.980 --> 00:17:57.700
Just think of it.

00:17:58.600 --> 00:18:00.080
Bigger advertising space.

00:18:00.420 --> 00:18:02.060
George, that's the retail of $5.

00:18:02.160 --> 00:18:03.700
I'm sure it costs like a dime extra.

00:18:05.180 --> 00:18:10.120
You know how companies will pay trucks just to drive around with their logo?

00:18:10.240 --> 00:18:12.480
Companies could pay you guys to walk around.

00:18:12.520 --> 00:18:13.740
You're like walking billboards.

00:18:13.920 --> 00:18:43.900
Yeah, like the sign turners or the sign flippers. That's awesome. We're going to spin around as they're walking through. Hey, honey, look, that's amazing. That's a walking human. We're not going to be doing a formal news segment on this episode, but I did want to mention while we're talking beer, news came out this past week, maybe a couple weeks now. John knows, we all know now, that Opeth has announced their own beer. It came out overseas. It hasn't been announced here in the States. And it won't be. It won't be. Yeah, it's already sold out. Yeah, the first thing I did is...

00:18:43.920 --> 00:19:13.420
Whoever sent that out, whether it was on Twitter or Facebook, I immediately went to the website and tried to order it. You can. And I got all the way through until it said, country of origin, or your country. If you're not living in the UK, you're not getting it. Who's it being proved by? It's by Northern Monk. I believe they're in Leeds. Yes, I believe so. So I emailed them directly, and they said, sorry, we can't distribute. But hang in there, maybe we have something. And then literally a couple days later, I got an email that they had a vendor. And so I bought some. So we'll drink some later.

00:19:14.380 --> 00:19:42.840
Yeah. Isn't this amazing? Yes. So you got some? Yes. Yeah, okay, so the part of the story that Will's not remembering is how when he said, so I don't want really any. I just want a smidge, but I want your bottle. And I'm like, last I look at it, I'm like, really? Will's looking befuddled, like, you got beer where I couldn't? What happened? What's my name? My name is Jake. So Jake comes up to me and says, I just want a smidge.

00:19:43.980 --> 00:20:11.100
So now we have Brew Metal John now. Yeah, get off of here. Give him your name. Now he is the master. So I was able to purchase a few. They'll be coming hopefully soon. I'm assuming that was the surprise. No, that's not the surprise for the podcast later. Yeah. Well, just one of the small ancillary benefits of being on the podcast today. Are we all getting Metalhead's tattoos? Is that a surprise? You're going to whip something out we're all going to do? Homemade tattoos right now?

00:20:13.500 --> 00:20:41.780
Yeah, yeah. He's pretty awesome. Hold on, Joe. I'll show him to you. Is that like old school, like 70s? Or is that like newer? Can you see him? That's a stand-up Vader. That's huge. Yeah, he's huge. It is a little creepy. So you can tell we're all very much ready for the new Star Wars movie. So the Dark Lord is here watching over the pod today. He's the patron saint of metal.

00:20:43.480 --> 00:21:13.120
There's an issue, by the way, the Chinese trailer is out, and it's got a whole bunch of new footage for those of you who are willing to watch trailers ahead of time. Not Buke. AJ, I'm even wearing my Millennium Falcon t-shirt. Good man, dude. Nice. All right, well, I guess we should get into the interview, and then we can move on. Yep, and we'll go fill up on our beers, and we'll get into it. We need a beer-drinking game. Like, every time somebody does, it says something we gotta drink. Every time somebody calls you Jay, we drink. God, we're gonna get drunk. All right.

00:21:13.500 --> 00:21:42.480
Every time George says, all right. All right. This band smokes. Amazing. Amazing. It's huge. Or a burrito. Every time somebody says, burrito. Burritos. All right. Here's the interview with Bill and Albert from Gloom. We'll be right back. Hello. This is Buke, and I'm going to say hi for George because he is a fast roll. No, he's... I'm starting to lose my voice already.

00:21:43.500 --> 00:22:11.100
The Night Before our year-end extravaganza, where we do our top 25 albums of the year, and George and Will both are already sounding horrible. So tomorrow could really... Some people might call this the gloom party, but actually this is the year-end episode pre-party. Yes, yes. I like that, George. Not to take away from you guys.

00:22:13.480 --> 00:22:41.960
here at Fairwinds Brewing. That's Will, if you can hear him there. Back here at Fairwinds Brewing, where Will is hosting another one of his brew nights, this time featuring the band local in this area, Gloom. We're here joined by Bill and friend of the podcast, if I may say so again, Albert. As you may know from our previous appearances with Yesterday's Saints. Bill, how's everything going? Everything's going fantastically.

00:22:43.480 --> 00:23:10.000
These beers, Iron Tongue, around 8%. It's a black wit. And I'm feeling quite toasty. And these were brewed for you guys. We still don't have a podcast beer. We've known Will for a long time. You guys got that, so. Albert just... Albert has two beers now. Hey, Will, do you know Albert has two beers now? What? Albert has a Yesterday Saints and a Gloom beer now.

00:23:14.840 --> 00:23:15.200
Yeah.

00:23:15.620 --> 00:23:16.080
That's right.

00:23:16.170 --> 00:23:17.380
The Bourne beer is next.

00:23:17.520 --> 00:23:17.700
Yes.

00:23:17.920 --> 00:23:19.260
The Bourne beer is next.

00:23:19.880 --> 00:23:20.040
Yes.

00:23:20.130 --> 00:23:20.980
The Bourne supremacy.

00:23:21.600 --> 00:23:22.540
The Bourne supremacy.

00:23:24.740 --> 00:23:28.320
So, we just got done listening to a couple of your guys' tracks out there.

00:23:28.440 --> 00:23:29.820
Of course, this is a podcast.

00:23:30.380 --> 00:23:33.060
I don't know if we have you guys' music on the podcast right now.

00:23:33.700 --> 00:23:37.580
But if we don't, or if we do, tell a little people about you guys in Gloom.

00:23:37.860 --> 00:23:38.920
What you guys are, what you sound like.

00:23:39.700 --> 00:24:09.660
Really, I guess what the original idea of Gloom was, was to bring individual musical tastes of each member of the band into the music. I think too many bands these days just kind of choose a subgenre to belong to, and that's just the way it goes for the rest of the band's discography. But for us, it was really important just to bring variety and to have fun with it. I mean, really, that's what it is. Music is about having fun. It's not about making money or

00:24:09.700 --> 00:24:39.660
Becoming Rockstars or any of that crap. That shit's done with the 90s and the 80s. None of that remains. So right now we just enjoy what we make and hope other people do as well. You guys, you said this you were in a previous band with Albert before. We were saying this before I turned on the recorder when Albert stepped away. I think he's a hidden gem. I use that description. He's easily could, you could

00:24:39.700 --> 00:25:09.660
slide him in for the blackest of black metal to power metal or whatever. He's amazing. Yeah. You guys go back years playing with one another, correct? Yeah, yeah. The first show we played with each other was something like five years and 18 days ago. Wow. Yeah, I've been marking it off on a calendar, Al. But no, I mean, Al is a professional drummer, and that's really basically what we were looking for. We're looking for someone who doesn't need to

00:25:09.840 --> 00:25:10.440
themselves anymore.

00:25:10.650 --> 00:25:14.440
As someone who's had a list of accomplishments in their career,

00:25:15.160 --> 00:25:22.800
and really just knows how to play, knows when to use flair, knows when to lay back, knows when to show what he's got.

00:25:22.980 --> 00:25:24.720
And really, that's what Al is.

00:25:25.420 --> 00:25:26.360
Now, Al, I'll ask you this.

00:25:26.460 --> 00:25:35.200
As a, just like Bill just said, you've, with your time with Pentagram, you've played, you know, with yourself with yesterday's Saints that just came out.

00:25:36.460 --> 00:25:38.180
How do you feel about this project?

00:25:38.280 --> 00:26:05.580
Is this something different for you? Is this allowing you to experiment more? Or is this an eager group of guys? What's the most exciting about this project for you? Bill. That's right. You should see the twinkle in Bill's eye right now. It's a glorious twinkle. No, seriously, Al and I have known each other for a long time. We first played in Loculus together and he's a good dude, first and foremost.

00:26:10.060 --> 00:26:38.260
I guess enjoy each other's company I mean you know if you're going to be farting and and snoring in a band in a van with somebody or even just sharing a practice space and enjoying jam sessions like you need to enjoy the aroma you need to savor the taste of the sweat this is our I go that far this is our this is our but our third or fourth time being joined by we know he joined us in the studio to start with

00:26:39.440 --> 00:27:08.240
that we learned at that time that he's vegan. A vegan drummer. Do you guys, can you sell that to people really if you guys do make it? Hey, I don't, first of all, I don't even know if there's such a thing as making it anymore, but secondly, I, yeah, okay, so if there is. When I mean making it, you guys see some success on Bandcamp, really. Yeah, so if we get 100 plays on Bandcamp, that would be fantastic.

00:27:08.340 --> 00:27:38.260
I mean all of us would be ecstatic I think the veganism would probably be a plus in today's PC culture especially with hipsters I mean you know those people they complain about everything there's the PC culture that you got to worry about Bill come on please look at you do you have a care a carabiner for your keys I do I'm I'm speaking into my beer here yes he does he pats his ass so so Albert you've

00:27:38.300 --> 00:28:08.260
Well, you've been in a bunch of bands throughout the years. What's different about going in here to Gloom for you? Well, you know, I love Yesterday's Saints, and that's a project I started with WIT, and then Matt came along shortly after. So I still really love that, but Gloom just brings a whole new thing, you know, just a different energy, and it's really fun to play some different styles and stuff like that. It keeps me on my toes, and, you know, keeps my chops up in different ways.

00:28:08.280 --> 00:28:38.260
and different areas. Learning the songs I really enjoyed it so I was like you know what the hell let's do this. Now you guys were featured on the pod a couple times now have you guys with I don't know if it's known you know on the internet it's known but you know Matt has moved for you know family and stuff has that affected going forward with the band are you guys gonna try and make it on different coasts and stuff? Not at all I mean the band is still

00:28:38.300 --> 00:29:08.240
together, it's just Matt needs a couple months to adjust out there and then we'll be mostly focusing on touring. Awesome, that's awesome. So, and obviously it sounds like Bill and the guys are perfectly okay with you. Yeah, we've just discussed at length I'm willing to go on tour with Gloom and stuff and obviously we'll have to sort schedules out and that sort of thing in the future but as far as everything now, it's working. Yeah, I feel like both bands are at the point where, you know, our major concern is

00:29:08.460 --> 00:29:13.260
and scheduling blocks of time that can revolve around one another.

00:29:13.330 --> 00:29:16.420
And that's totally fine with us, and it's totally fine with Al.

00:29:17.820 --> 00:29:23.240
I've known Matt Rice and Yesterday's Saints for years and years and years now.

00:29:23.730 --> 00:29:26.320
And they're a great band, and they're a great set of dudes.

00:29:27.600 --> 00:29:32.340
And whatever Al ends up doing, we are so happy for him.

00:29:32.580 --> 00:29:37.420
And yeah, man, I mean, we love working with him, and we love Yesterday's Saints.

00:29:37.560 --> 00:30:07.080
And if you guys haven't checked them out yet, you definitely need to. The new album is fucking unreal, man. It's a concept album based on Dante's Inferno. And even, I mean, Matt really thought a lot about every piece of vocal instrumentation, everything down to the type of voice he used for the type of character that he was playing in whatever lyrics he was writing.

00:30:07.120 --> 00:30:37.100
I mean it's just it's a really well done piece of music and I think yeah I mean you guys need to check it out. At the start of this you said that you're a working band. To me sounds like that would mean that you're fully committed to doing whatever you need to do to try and you know take gloom to the next level. Yeah absolutely we just signed with EMG the extreme management group up in New York. They manage

00:30:38.100 --> 00:31:06.920
Origin, Cattle Decapitation, Rings of Saturn, Suffocation. I've never heard of any of those. Yeah, no. Very underground bands. I mean, you've probably never heard of them either. But yeah, they're a great group of managers. And really what they're interested in is shopping us to a group of labels that they think would match with us. And based on what those labels,

00:31:07.200 --> 00:31:37.100
decide they want us to do and our level of commitment they will invest a certain amount of money in us hopefully and then we can take Gloom to the level that it that at least we deserve or we believe it deserves. I wanted to add one thing as far as the reason I decided to work with Gloom is when Bill was in Loculus when Bill was fronting the band I mean shows were a blast you know he just would make it so much

00:31:37.140 --> 00:32:06.120
and just bring this weird zany energy to the show. And I just love watching that and being a part of it. So when Bill asked me, and I thought about it for a little bit because I'm a pretty busy guy, but then I was like, it's Bill. Now, you guys, correct me if I'm wrong, you invited me. You guys have a show tomorrow, correct? Were you guys, is that a precursor to more shows to a little tour?

00:32:07.140 --> 00:32:36.900
What do you guys have on the immediate horizon as we go into 2016? As we go into 2016, I mean, right now we're just focused on this show tomorrow. But as far as the future goes, I mean, we're really working that out with management. Future tour, we have a booking agent and we have, we just signed with this management. So they're going to be contacting each other. But really what it all depends on is what kind of response we get from labels. We are always down to tour. We're always down to play wherever.

00:32:37.140 --> 00:33:05.420
We've done a couple small tours. I think one was three weeks and the other was, you know, like some bullshit like 18 days or I'm sorry, eight days. But we're really, we just want to play for people who haven't heard us before and we want to attract more people into the fold, I guess. Now, a lot of the bands that we've interviewed on our podcast have seen a lot of success doing it all on their own with Bandcamp and stuff like that.

00:33:07.140 --> 00:33:37.100
of our albums that I know for sure are going to be on my list of albums of the year tomorrow are all self-released on Bandcamp, put out to the world. What made you want to maybe forego that route and try to get on a record label? When if you ask some people, they say, hey, you don't need it. And I'm not asking this question for you to talk bad about potential labels. Absolutely. I actually had a long intellectual discussion

00:33:37.160 --> 00:34:07.100
with a page called the business of music on Facebook if you if you guys have ever heard of them or just look them up like them there they post some really interesting articles but we I specifically talked at length with them about this they posted an article that said bands now don't need large labels and they listed wasn't Miley Cyrus is that bitch a no it was some good-looking blonde chick

00:34:07.140 --> 00:34:36.840
who wears skimpy outfits. Yeah, Taylor Swift. There you go, Al. Taylor Swift. Take off that Taylor Swift shirt. He has a couple... Yeah, it was they posted about Taylor Swift and how Deadmau5 and Taylor Swift had gone off of large labels to make their fortunes and smaller labels. And the fact of the matter is that they were able to do that because of the support of large labels. I mean, really, metal,

00:34:37.120 --> 00:35:07.080
When you think about it and you're realistic with it, metal is a niche genre. If you're a subgenre of metal, you're even more of a niche genre. You look at it as a piece of a larger pie. In my personal opinion, metal needs is for bands to start taking advantage of larger labels and being able to use that money in a productive way.

00:35:07.160 --> 00:35:37.100
so that you can gain larger popularity larger you really need to play in front of a larger audience and you know screaming and growling and all that kind of stuff that I do there are only so many people that are going to like that but that doesn't matter I mean really it's about satisfying your own personal artistic integrity and creativity so playing for larger audiences and stuff

00:35:37.140 --> 00:36:07.100
Would that be getting with a record label and becoming a metalcore band? Oh yeah, obviously. I mean, really what we aspire to is trivium-type popularity. I mean, we need really catchy choruses with... Breakdowns. Breakdowns. Yeah. Bass drops. Meaningless, hollow lyrics. Those kind of things. Get like Albert, you know, tight six-pack abs. You know, you already got the nice hair. Get some, you know, some...

00:36:08.620 --> 00:36:35.760
I'm also investing in a solid gold codpiece. You guys are there. That's right. You guys are there. That's a really interesting point you bring up about the labels. Yeah well and labels will also give you more opportunities for touring like you're saying and in fact you know that's probably the only way that you can that a band's going to find themselves getting to play in like Europe and anywhere around there because it's just so expensive to travel and things like that you really kind of need some help to do that.

00:36:35.860 --> 00:37:02.780
I think the other big thing is some bands have people that are good at managing and good at organizing everything and other bands aren't and even if you are or aren't I think having a label or manager outside looking in can give you feedback that you may have not been able to give yourself. It's just that it never hurts to have that outside viewpoint.

00:37:10.100 --> 00:37:35.820
You still want somebody that's into the music and gets you and stuff like that but I think bands can be successful either way as a band you have to assess yourself and see well how much can I do how much can another person help me and if the other person can't do as much as you yeah then do it yourself so I think bands are successful either way and you just it really takes a

00:37:35.840 --> 00:38:02.820
a lot of self-evaluation and being real. Now, self-evaluation with yourself, has it ever looked at yourself and been, man, why are you doing this to yourself? Why are you playing with two different bands or playing one band this week, one band this week? You ever start to take a look at, man, I'm crazy for doing this. Or is it just a love of the music? I just love to play. You just love to play. Yeah, you just love to play. And my favorite is playing live.

00:38:05.880 --> 00:38:09.200
But I mean, when I'm live and on stage, that's where it's at.

00:38:10.240 --> 00:38:13.320
So, your guys' album, it's available now?

00:38:13.920 --> 00:38:14.020
No.

00:38:14.400 --> 00:38:14.660
No.

00:38:14.660 --> 00:38:20.620
No, we have an EP that was out June 24th, 2014.

00:38:20.910 --> 00:38:26.340
You guys can buy it on bandcampgloomdc.bandcamp.com or gloomdc.com.

00:38:28.240 --> 00:38:28.660
Yeah, it was.

00:38:28.880 --> 00:38:29.100
That's right.

00:38:29.480 --> 00:38:29.580
Yeah.

00:38:30.920 --> 00:38:58.220
But our new album entitled Solaris, we don't know what the release date is yet. I mean, we're working with our management as far as that goes. But yeah, as soon as it's out, we will definitely be contacting Will, hopefully contacting you guys. And we'd really love to come back on and talk with you guys more about it. That would be great. Like a more formal, hey, when it's done, everything's ready, you know, release date and everything like that. We'll sit you down in the studio, we'll have some beers and we'll talk.

00:38:59.280 --> 00:39:25.660
If I wanted to get this on record again, when we first met Will a couple years ago when we started doing this pod, we just knew him as some guy on Twitter who fucking loves beer and loves metal. More importantly, loves the local metal scene. I remember people was like, oh yeah, I'm talking to this guy and I'm like, whatever, fuck social media, fuck people. I'm a misanthrope, fuck everybody. And he's just like, no man, this guy's kind of cool. Turns out he is.

00:39:25.720 --> 00:39:55.680
So, I wanted to say all this is make sure, you know, I know you guys have said it before, say it again and thank Will because he has been flying both your guys' projects and he flies every fucking, he's not just, he makes you beer. Well, he does. He makes you guys beer. But if there's one man who is flying the flag for a local medal, because George and I will be the first to admit, even when we started this podcast, Will would hit us up with all these, hey, do you know this local

00:39:55.760 --> 00:40:25.680
You know this local band? We're honestly, no. We live up in Frederick, so we weren't getting, you know, we don't get much music up there until now we have Cafe 611. I actually think that, like, Jack's going away has kind of helped us, because now all the metal bands are coming up to Frederick. So that's, we're definitely getting more in. I don't know how the fuck I came up with this weird analogy, but I kind of think of the local metal scene as, you know, each band is kind of a different

00:40:27.039 --> 00:40:52.720
and the common thread are the people like Will and the people like you guys and the people like local radio stations who really kind of sew everything together and make a patchwork of a scene. I mean, you guys create a culture. And that's really what ends up making us feel good. Us musicians come out of the basement.

00:40:52.800 --> 00:41:22.520
And it's a self-made metal scene community. And without each person doing what they do, it wouldn't be what it is. Yep. Well, I'll speak for George. We're really excited to see you guys. As Albert, who's quickly this past year become a really good friend of ours, Stuart Belt, now wish you guys the best. Yeah, I'm like bummed that the show's tomorrow when we're doing our year-end episode. I was like, oh, I'd really like to go see that. Well, we go on probably midnight, 1230.

00:41:24.280 --> 00:41:52.760
He's in bed. I'll be in bed by then. Look at him. He's in bed. I don't blame you. I'm usually in bed by 9.30. Like I said, Al is a friend. Bill, I'm sure we'll start to build a relationship with you as well. Thank you again for taking the time to talk to us. And we truly wish you the best. Thank you guys very much for even being interested. We really appreciate it. We truly are. And you know, we're always here for you guys. Yeah, we look forward to hearing the album. I mean, you know, what I've heard so far from the EP, I expect nothing to do.

00:41:53.780 --> 00:42:22.760
Yep. We'll talk to you guys. Alright, that was our interview with Bill and Albert from Gloom at the Fairwinds Brewing Brutality at the Brewery 3. Stay tuned for more from those guys coming up next year. Our next beer without drinking, we have just opened up Back Masking by Three Floyds. It's oatmeal stout. Three Floyds, man. They're pretty cool. Yeah, I'm digging them. They do all the metal beers. You know, the one thing, a little

00:42:25.800 --> 00:42:51.520
The one thing I'm always curious about as a brewer and a metal head and a guy who makes beers for metal bands is how much do Cannibal Corpse actually collaborate? Did they just make an amberish looking IPA because just the name of the song, Hammer Smash Face, Amber Smash Face? Or did Cannibal Corpse say, "Hey, we really like IPAs. We like Ambers." And then they came through. Were they there on brew day?

00:42:52.800 --> 00:43:20.260
What was the process like? Because they made beers for I Hate God and Larry the Minotaur and Pig Destroyer. Pelican. Pelican. And I think they did a couple beers for Pelican. They did a couple for Municipal Waste. So I'm always curious how much the bands actually have input into the recipe and whatnot. Shocking for a metal brewery company to come out of Munster, Indiana. Yeah.

00:43:22.800 --> 00:43:23.820
Park in the middle of nowhere.

00:43:24.660 --> 00:43:25.260
But I mean.

00:43:25.720 --> 00:43:26.620
Yeah, it's basically.

00:43:26.640 --> 00:43:27.160
You were just there.

00:43:27.440 --> 00:43:27.960
Yeah, I was just there.

00:43:28.380 --> 00:43:29.100
What, last week?

00:43:29.360 --> 00:43:29.520
Yeah.

00:43:30.420 --> 00:43:32.480
Yeah, it's out in the middle of nowhere.

00:43:32.540 --> 00:43:35.620
It takes like 40 minutes to get down that road to get to it with all the traffic.

00:43:35.760 --> 00:43:38.260
But it's just basically a Chicago suburb, I guess.

00:43:38.400 --> 00:43:38.540
Yeah.

00:43:38.880 --> 00:43:39.060
Yeah.

00:43:39.340 --> 00:43:39.560
Nice.

00:43:39.840 --> 00:43:41.840
But it's like lying out the door every day.

00:43:42.520 --> 00:43:43.420
Every time I've been there.

00:43:43.780 --> 00:43:44.800
And they just blast heavy metal.

00:43:44.880 --> 00:43:47.680
Like they're unabashed in their love for heavy metal.

00:43:47.800 --> 00:43:48.260
Look at this one.

00:43:48.260 --> 00:43:49.060
I just said on Untappd.

00:43:49.140 --> 00:43:49.760
Dark Lord.

00:43:50.040 --> 00:43:50.940
Fucking killer label.

00:43:51.320 --> 00:43:52.580
This Imperial Russian stout.

00:43:52.660 --> 00:44:22.360
Wow. I'm laughing. Have you never heard of that beer before? No, I haven't. Oh, God, it's famous. They have a Dark Lord Day that is a heavy metal festival. So when they release that beer every year in April, there's a huge heavy metal festival that they put on. And it turns into like a giant bottle share. I've never been to it. Someday I aspire to go. That's one of America's white whales. Yeah. Wow. And you're just ignorant. You're fucking ignorant. How did I get it? You're ignorant.

00:44:23.359 --> 00:44:24.080
Janier Slut.

00:44:27.060 --> 00:44:28.540
For those of us old enough to remember.

00:44:29.380 --> 00:44:30.480
Saturday Night Live reference.

00:44:31.060 --> 00:44:31.460
Dan Ackerman.

00:44:32.220 --> 00:44:32.820
Well, cheers, guys.

00:44:33.260 --> 00:44:33.320
Cheers.

00:44:33.520 --> 00:44:33.880
Cheers again.

00:44:34.480 --> 00:44:34.580
Yep.

00:44:36.980 --> 00:44:37.180
Jay.

00:44:37.720 --> 00:44:38.200
Cheers, Jay.

00:44:38.400 --> 00:44:38.700
All right.

00:44:38.810 --> 00:44:40.460
Well, before we get into our list,

00:44:41.160 --> 00:44:45.100
Bukh thought it would be a good idea for us to just sort of reminisce about 2015

00:44:45.600 --> 00:44:47.240
and, you know, talk about the year a little bit.

00:44:47.560 --> 00:44:49.280
So I'm going to let you lead that off.

00:44:49.600 --> 00:44:51.160
I just wanted to see if anybody had any thoughts,

00:44:51.520 --> 00:45:20.780
The thoughts I had in my mind when I suggested this are eluding me right now. Do you guys have any questions? Beard in, thought out. I will say this about myself for the list I started to put together. I got bored with a certain genre that I was at around my monotony mid-year time. I got a little bored with Doom as the year went on. Okay, godless. Yep. I did. That's just me personally. I got a little bored with it. Okay.

00:45:21.540 --> 00:45:51.500
There won't be any doom on your list. There may. There may not. Never can tell. I was just letting you know. We've all got our poker faces on. I'm not telling you what's on my list. That was the point I wanted to bring up. As my 2015 played out, I just got a little bored with it. Yeah, some of the albums that were on my mid-year list have completely gone away. I think I can go ahead and say right now that after our mid-year episode, I proclaimed my new number one album to be the new

00:45:51.540 --> 00:46:21.100
And that shit sunk like a fucking rock. That is not on my list anywhere. So I didn't know. I didn't think you liked those guys. I did. And I really liked the new album for like five minutes. Uh, because partly what drew me in was they have sort of like this little Voivod thing going on in a couple places. And I was like, Ooh, you know, I love Voivod. So it drew me in, but it just didn't have the replay power. It got annoying after a while. And I was like, Nope, you're gone. You're out. So.

00:46:21.540 --> 00:46:49.280
You won't see that on my list. 2015 really, as we've been getting this in gear, it was great to have you guys, you know, we become closer friends as every week goes by. But it was really cool to the whole year have a really set group of guys to really bounce music back and forth with the whole year long. Yeah, I mean, we started this year, we didn't even know who this J guy was. Yeah. So that's probably my best find this year.

00:46:51.900 --> 00:47:21.260
Both of them. Well, you were here on last year. Yeah, I know. Hey, Jay, when? Technically, I don't think I met John until this year, right? Yeah, this year. Yeah, so both you guys. Yeah, because it was this time last year. I said, you've got to bring my friend John on. That's right. So, yeah. Jay, when did you start doing the podcast full time? It was like April. Yeah, and I'd have to look at the page, but it was something like that. I mean, our record came out in May. Or no, our record came out in March. So, it was probably that, because I think I was on the show.

00:47:21.520 --> 00:47:51.500
about a month after the record came out. And I just stuck around. Yeah. Yeah, and I'm so glad I did, obviously. Yeah. I mean, we're all, even more than the podcast, we all talk all the time. So it's good to have a couple new friends. Band of Brothers. Yeah, fuck yeah. It was a good year, wasn't it? It was. Yeah. I thought it was all right. I mean, I was. I had a little trouble making my list, just to speak of the quality of the music. I had a little, you know, the list was a challenge, I thought. Yeah. If anything, there was way more music this year than in the previous

00:47:51.520 --> 00:47:52.060
couple of years.

00:47:52.330 --> 00:47:52.880
You think so?

00:47:53.320 --> 00:47:54.420
Maybe I just sought more out.

00:47:54.510 --> 00:47:54.840
I don't know.

00:47:54.960 --> 00:47:58.140
Yeah, I think for me, I always started looking at Bandcamp a lot more.

00:47:59.880 --> 00:48:01.460
So it seemed like I was being more...

00:48:01.720 --> 00:48:03.520
That's why my list was pretty hard this year,

00:48:03.600 --> 00:48:06.540
just because I had so much music this year.

00:48:06.860 --> 00:48:09.860
And I wanted to bring up a point you brought up.

00:48:09.990 --> 00:48:11.700
I think you mentioned it after a year.

00:48:11.800 --> 00:48:15.320
You mentioned it after a year in the last year and the mid-pod this year.

00:48:15.820 --> 00:48:19.480
It was really enjoyable having you guys as some of my best friends now

00:48:19.480 --> 00:48:48.660
because before my metal circle used to be George. And whenever I would read online. But again, I don't have an attachment to the people I'm reading online. I don't know them more than lists and stuff. I personally know John and I know John's style and Will and stuff like that. So when Will or John or Jay or George says, hey, you may want to check this album out, it means a little bit more to me than the faceless username on some website. And that's probably what I really enjoyed this year.

00:48:48.720 --> 00:48:52.380
because it was great to have too much, I think.

00:48:53.470 --> 00:48:55.400
Yeah, I think at one point, didn't I blame all you guys?

00:48:55.750 --> 00:48:56.680
Yeah, I think you did.

00:48:56.770 --> 00:48:58.240
For killing my wallet and my hard drive.

00:48:58.310 --> 00:49:01.620
I was like, fuck, what am I going to do, buy nine more CDs today?

00:49:03.300 --> 00:49:07.340
All right, well, unless we've got anything else, let's get into this massive list.

00:49:07.640 --> 00:49:09.660
Ooh, baby, it's on.

00:49:10.080 --> 00:49:10.500
All right.

00:49:11.030 --> 00:49:17.140
So John, no, Will, was asking if, no, it was John.

00:49:18.480 --> 00:49:48.340
We were talking about how much we like the snippets. And John was thinking maybe every five albums or so, you could go in your screamy snippet voice and be like, 15 through 20! So, hey, how about giving us the Metal Heads Podcast 2015 Top 25? Well, actually, you know what? Maybe I can do that. I'll take one of the tracks that we've got.

00:49:48.520 --> 00:50:18.320
And all I gotta do is do a new vocal on him. And I will try to get him out of time. No, no, I'm saying like, we're saying like, just do it live now. It's a little early. Okay, fair enough. You can't just call the metal up at any time, man. The metal is weak. Darth Vader is not pleased. He's a little closer than he was last time. He's like the clown dog. It's gonna be like one of the horror films when the villain that keeps us getting closer.

00:50:19.660 --> 00:50:48.440
Will is that a new or an older? George was asking before if that was like a classic or is that something that's out now? I mean yeah you can get it now no it's it's definitely newer yeah it's way newer it's probably last year or something like that. Oh what's the betting order here? Yep I say John to Will to Jay to Jay to Buk to me. That's the way we did it last time. In case you're curious the way that I established this order is well I started the podcast as the first one and then Buk

00:50:48.460 --> 00:51:18.380
and then Jay and then Will and then John. And it's based on... Seniority? It's sort of a seniority in a way. It's just easier to remember that way by going, okay, that's why I do it that way. So I can be consistent. All right, let's find out what you jack-offs have been listening to this year. All right. Are we ready? Should I do my honorable mentions? Yes, you may. Why don't we... Everyone just run through their honorable mentions. Like if you have four or five or seven, whatever. Everyone just run through their honorable mentions.

00:51:18.460 --> 00:51:48.240
Sure, I've got probably 15 or 20, but these are just some ones that I enjoyed a lot that could have made my list, but they just didn't. I got this one from Beoke. He just sends me a message one night and says, you need to play this right now, and that was Cavern, Outsiders. It was one of my honorable mentions. Yep, great instrumental. Yeah, and they just played last week at DC, and I didn't know. This one, Jay went on and on about this at the last show, and that's the Sulfur Aeon. Right on. Gateway to Answer. I like that.

00:51:48.460 --> 00:52:18.420
I thought that was cool. Crip Sermon, Out of the Garden, a new one, just came out, Intranaut, Directional Lasting, some of the guys dug that I thought was kind of cool. An album I found yesterday, which almost infiltrated my list at the last minute. And I had to smack that back. You get down, you go back. And it popped its head back out again. It's like a whack-a-mole, I couldn't get rid of it. And I don't even know if I'm going to like this, but I like what I heard so far. It's Lithium Dawn, Tearing Back

00:52:44.800 --> 00:52:47.600
The Reactive

00:52:54.739 --> 00:53:18.400
I like the previous album a lot. Jay, actually you'll like a couple of these. War Horse as Heaven's Turn to Ash. That's a good record. I really like it. I wish it was a little bit more current. It'll go through periods where I'm like, okay, I'm losing interest, losing interest, and suddenly I'm like, oh, okay, now I get it again. It's definitely a good record.

00:53:19.440 --> 00:53:21.200
It's an older record too, it's been out for a while.

00:53:21.400 --> 00:53:22.080
But they're reissued.

00:53:22.240 --> 00:53:22.580
Yeah, it's true.

00:53:22.860 --> 00:53:22.940
Yeah.

00:53:24.839 --> 00:53:29.000
Illustrium, A Tunnel to Eden, these are guys from close to my hometown in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

00:53:30.240 --> 00:53:31.620
Good tech death, like it.

00:53:33.480 --> 00:53:34.120
Monolorde, Vanir.

00:53:36.240 --> 00:53:38.960
This probably would have made my list, I liked the previous album a little bit better,

00:53:39.160 --> 00:53:41.900
and John and I talked about this, I just felt like the vocals were a little too buried.

00:53:42.880 --> 00:53:42.980
Sorry.

00:53:43.460 --> 00:54:13.420
I feel like the vocals are a little too buried like mine are right now. I don't know if you guys have checked this one out yet. Power Mad Infinite. I haven't. I loved those guys back in the 90s. Was that Absolute Power? Absolute Power and Madness Begins. And I've been wanting to hear that but I haven't found it yet. It sounds like they picked up where they left off. It's great. That's awesome. Yeah I just haven't spent enough time with it because it's been out for a little while now. A couple months but I just haven't had time to really

00:54:13.480 --> 00:54:14.340
I don't know how to delve into it but

00:54:15.740 --> 00:54:16.900
the lead guitarist Todd

00:54:17.080 --> 00:54:18.780
I guess pronounce his name Hog or Haig

00:54:19.480 --> 00:54:20.900
is the head brewer at Surly

00:54:21.720 --> 00:54:23.140
so we're drinking some of

00:54:23.300 --> 00:54:24.340
Power Man beer kind of

00:54:25.200 --> 00:54:26.460
Wind Hand, Grief Eternal Flower

00:54:26.960 --> 00:54:29.420
didn't like this new one as much as the previous ones

00:54:29.620 --> 00:54:30.220
but still good

00:54:30.460 --> 00:54:32.780
and this one I really

00:54:33.680 --> 00:54:35.340
this next one, Black Fast

00:54:35.440 --> 00:54:37.400
Terms of Surrender, it easily could have been on my list

00:54:37.440 --> 00:54:39.680
if I just spent a little bit more time with it

00:54:39.820 --> 00:54:40.920
but it's a great record

00:54:43.020 --> 00:54:43.420
excellent

00:54:43.440 --> 00:55:13.400
What do you got? Well, one of mine is one of wills. That wind hand. I like that record. I thought it was good. Didn't just didn't quite get up onto my list. I had made a little list here. I don't have too many that I'm going to throw in here. The draconian record I thought was good. I didn't go crazy about it. Didn't quite make it on my list, but good. The intranet record. Doug that. I thought the horrendous record was good. I think those guys could make an amazing record, but it's just not quite there yet. Horrendous made number one for decibels. Top 40 list. I saw that. It's

00:55:13.420 --> 00:55:43.340
It's on a lot of lists. It's on a lot of lists, and I think it could be someplace better. One that I'm going to give an honorable mention to, and the only thing I don't like about it that much are the vocals, but I'm hoping for more from these guys is Active Defiance. Okay. Yeah. I kind of didn't like the vocals on it too much, but other than that, it's just like a really good Nevermore-y, death metal-y good stuff. That's it. My list represents everything else that I really love this year. Okay. Buke? My album of the year. No, no, no. Not yet. I don't.

00:55:43.420 --> 00:56:13.160
I'm just finding out of you. My album of the year is probably I listen to it the most. I've been high on this album the whole year. Not high on fire. Royal Thunder. That album is amazing. We need a beer. Her vocals, the whole album is killer. I've never been a real fan of Royal Thunder, particularly much at all. But driving back from Brutality last night, Buke was in the backseat drunk DJing our ride home.

00:56:14.140 --> 00:56:43.340
And he played a song from the Royal Thunder album. And he played it really loud. And I kind of dug it. So I'm going to go back and listen to that again. I saw that. That's number one on somebody's list. It simply did not make mine because as George and I were talking last night, it's not metal. Not metal! But I saw it on a metal end of the year list. There's some lists that put things that aren't metal on it. That's why My Quineopath had their last album. It didn't make mine. Not metal! A couple of them. Just going to rattle off a couple that didn't make it.

00:56:44.460 --> 00:57:13.220
Majestic Downfall. I don't know if this made my list. I have to go back and check real quick. It did not. Mammoth Storm. Yeah, that's cool. Malakesh. Yeah. I forgot to mention that. I forgot. That's what I'm like. Enki. Is that the name? Enki. Yeah, Enki. And I have a couple pictures I took here. Mutoid Man. Yes. Album was killer. Now, one black metal that didn't make one list. Barsh Shakesh. I am.

00:57:13.880 --> 00:57:43.380
Yeah, I don't know how to say that. Cool, but there's also a little kind of doomy riffs in it. Crip Sermon, Out of the Garden, easily. Could have made my list. Made a lot of lists. It's just like an early... It's like early Candlemaster. That's exactly what I was trying to think of. Yep. This was on Will's mid-year list. It's an EP. That's why I didn't make mine. Ex-Genesis. Apotic Veil, is that it? Yeah, I think they're a bunch of guys out of Columbia, the country. There's two guys, one from Columbia and one from South.

00:57:45.499 --> 00:58:12.420
I missed that one at my mid-year list and I wanted to give world credit because that album is killer. If it's an EP, if it was a full album, it easily would have made it. Jay, didn't you have that on your list or you mentioned that or something? Yeah, it was on my list too and it did drop off my list but it was on there. I talked about it briefly when it came out. But I heard about that band I think from one of you guys. I mean, maybe I thought, maybe I heard of it from Jay, not you. But it was on my mid-year list. Yeah, it was on yours. Yeah, I think Jay is the one that originally brought it up. Yeah.

00:58:12.760 --> 00:58:40.900
But then it made, I do think you've learned about it from Will's list. But it was on my list too. But yeah, that's a good record, dude. I hope for more from those guys. One more I wanted to mention, Ghost Ship Octavius. Ah, yeah, Van Williams. Yeah, being a fan of Van, amazing low side project. Hayes, right on. So I'm only going to give you four honorable mentions, but I do want to note that last year I did a list of 100 albums. And I ranked those. And that was a bitch. And I'm not doing that this year.

00:58:42.780 --> 00:59:12.380
for the podcast. And I've got another 75 that I'm going to post as a you might also like. And that's going to be in alphabetical order because fuck trying to order that many albums. And fuck you Reddit and everybody else who complained. Yeah, fuck all those people that complained about it last year about it being so long. Oh, fuck them. They're like, oh, why don't you just list every album? You think 100 albums came out this year? There were thousands of albums that came out this year. To let you know what we get, when we posted this last year, just views of our lists are online alone.

00:59:12.760 --> 00:59:42.700
Got like 10,000 views, page views. People love fucking lists. Yeah, yeah. But they complain because they're like, why no description for them or anything? We're just kind of giving you albums to check out. Or go listen to them. Just go listen to them. We've been describing them all year long. Yeah. I don't think there's anything on my list that I have not touched upon on an episode this year at some point. But anyway, so when this all goes online, you can check out those other 75 albums that didn't make.

00:59:44.180 --> 00:59:49.980
I want to mention three of those I'm singling out because they're not really metal albums.

00:59:50.450 --> 00:59:53.680
Like we've been saying, this is a metal show. These are metal lists.

00:59:53.960 --> 00:59:58.340
So can we delete that three-hour description of the Madonna?

01:00:01.260 --> 01:00:02.300
That was painful to listen to.

01:00:02.880 --> 01:00:05.800
It was relevant to the fact that we need to up our game.

01:00:05.800 --> 01:00:08.420
That was a very, very long getting to the fact.

01:00:10.460 --> 01:00:12.000
Well, you know that. George is very thorough.

01:00:13.020 --> 01:00:15.180
It's taking up 10 minutes just to mention 4 albums

01:00:17.740 --> 01:00:18.340
Okay

01:00:18.940 --> 01:00:20.560
In very brief and

01:00:21.160 --> 01:00:22.340
fast order

01:00:24.740 --> 01:00:26.700
Blackstar Riders, The Killer Instinct

01:00:26.860 --> 01:00:27.260
Fucking

01:00:27.940 --> 01:00:30.220
This is like the guys from

01:00:30.620 --> 01:00:32.620
Thin Lizzy, the ones that are still around

01:00:32.620 --> 01:00:33.560
The guitar player guy

01:00:34.819 --> 01:00:36.600
The singer that sounds just like

01:00:36.680 --> 01:00:38.400
Phil LaNotte, fucking great

01:00:38.780 --> 01:00:39.460
rock album

01:01:06.740 --> 01:01:08.560
You're a fan of them?

01:01:08.620 --> 01:01:09.820
I like the early stuff better.

01:01:11.220 --> 01:01:11.860
Red, blue.

01:01:12.340 --> 01:01:12.900
Up to blue.

01:01:13.160 --> 01:01:13.480
Up to blue.

01:01:13.800 --> 01:01:14.560
Yeah, what was the last one?

01:01:14.800 --> 01:01:15.100
Yellow, green.

01:01:16.440 --> 01:01:17.320
That's when I got a change.

01:01:17.320 --> 01:01:18.140
You can hear one of the tracks.

01:01:18.160 --> 01:01:19.120
Take my bones away.

01:01:19.400 --> 01:01:19.500
Yeah.

01:01:20.120 --> 01:01:20.780
But I like that song.

01:01:20.900 --> 01:01:21.500
It's a great song.

01:01:21.840 --> 01:01:21.900
Yeah.

01:01:22.000 --> 01:01:22.100
Yeah.

01:01:22.520 --> 01:01:26.840
And my last honorable mention, you know, there's some albums that you just can't put

01:01:26.880 --> 01:01:29.200
on the list because you know the people.

01:01:29.980 --> 01:01:33.180
And if I was going to put this on my list, it would have to be at number one.

01:01:33.680 --> 01:01:35.720
This is Catatonic Society and Baptistina.

01:01:37.220 --> 01:02:04.940
You're too kind sir, that's very nice of you. But because Jay is actually a member of the podcast, I think there's a little too much bias there to put it on my list. Actually Jay, George and I were talking about this earlier. It's absolutely true, it's a great album. You guys are too nice. You know, I will say this, one of my buddies, one of our listeners, he listens to the whole show every time he put it on his list without any prompting to me. So just even the slightest mention, that makes me feel real good guys. So that's really cool. And we're working on number two. That's right.

01:02:05.800 --> 01:02:07.660
I did shit for me Jay so take your bags.

01:02:09.540 --> 01:02:11.320
You're welcome to the top of the bag.

01:02:11.860 --> 01:02:11.940
Yeah.

01:02:15.160 --> 01:02:15.460
All right.

01:02:15.550 --> 01:02:18.060
Do we need to fill up before we start all our fill up?

01:02:18.460 --> 01:02:18.640
Yep.

01:02:18.900 --> 01:02:20.020
And there you go we'll get into them.

01:02:20.180 --> 01:02:21.260
By the way I liked it.

01:02:21.580 --> 01:02:22.400
I don't know.

01:02:22.480 --> 01:02:25.580
I guess it was the mid year when we do this sort of like all right go fill up.

01:02:25.580 --> 01:02:28.840
You kind of like you fade it out so you can actually hear us still talking.

01:02:29.060 --> 01:02:29.620
It was cool.

01:02:30.140 --> 01:02:30.460
All right.

01:02:30.550 --> 01:02:34.300
We are now about the way to get into our list but before we do what are we drinking?

01:02:34.780 --> 01:02:35.740
It's Alpha Claw's.

01:02:35.800 --> 01:03:05.680
from Three Floyds. And I believe it's a porter. Christmas porter. With a, like, I don't know, zombie dude on the front. Zombie Rockstar Jesus? We had that last time. There's a picture of all these on the Facebook page, too, so. Yeah. And also, check out the new wearemetalheads.com website. This is good, too. It's like, it's a stout? That's a porter. It's like portery, but it's got like. So it has no roasted barley.

01:03:06.380 --> 01:03:34.040
I'm assuming to make it a porter. It's not that big, but 6%, so it's not too big. Interesting. All right, number 25. Here we go, boys. Here we go, boys. All right, John, you're number 25. All right, I'll start it off. I'll kick it off with a shit storm, because I know Buke is going to just hammer me on this later on at some point, because he hates this genre so much.

01:03:35.800 --> 01:04:05.760
I could not stop listening to this album. I don't know why. And I just saw these guys the other night. It's the new one from Tesseract. It's Polaris, I believe, because I can't see. Yeah, I think that's what it is. I did not think I would like it. And I'm not a big fan of the genre. We've had this discussion. But for some reason, I do like the new album. I actually think he's one of the better singers in the genre. I think the genre is just loaded with just crappy singers. What's the genre? It's like they're more of a progressive metal, but they have a gent feel to them. They're kind of credited with forwarding gent, but I don't think they're like...

01:04:06.340 --> 01:04:35.640
I told him last night, I hate djent. Yeah, and I'm not a Meshuggah fan at all. I don't like him. Wait, sorry, I'm going to plead ignorance here. What's djent? It's actually named after the sound that it's like a heavy palm muted chika chika chika djent, djent, djent. That's every Meshuggah song. When you close your eyes, you think of them, their sound. That is djent. And it's polyrhythmic, I guess, and not a fan of it, but I do think that this album,

01:04:35.780 --> 01:04:37.040
is a lot different for them.

01:04:38.640 --> 01:04:43.700
And it's, at least on the prog side, on my side, it's been getting a lot more praise.

01:04:43.820 --> 01:04:45.760
Not for the gen part, more for the...

01:04:45.760 --> 01:04:48.580
A lot of people mention these guys more now than Meshuggah.

01:04:48.590 --> 01:04:50.720
I know Meshuggah hasn't done anything recently.

01:04:51.180 --> 01:04:51.300
No.

01:04:51.500 --> 01:04:53.260
But these guys, a lot of people talk about.

01:04:53.400 --> 01:04:55.580
And I saw them the other night with The Contortionist.

01:04:55.610 --> 01:04:57.280
Because I liked The Contortionist's last album.

01:04:57.980 --> 01:04:59.220
And I was, the place was packed.

01:04:59.250 --> 01:05:03.060
It was up at our favorite, now, the replacement for Jaxx up in Baltimore.

01:05:03.740 --> 01:05:04.340
The soundstage.

01:05:04.660 --> 01:05:05.400
Yeah, the soundstage.

01:05:05.460 --> 01:05:34.620
I mean, I love the venue, but God, if you're in the wrong spot, you're just getting nothing but muffled. Yeah, the sound kind of sucks there. But I like the venue because it's easy to get to. There's parking right there. Parking's close. You walk right in, you're right in the venue. You don't have to go through any bullshit. But anyway, I expect to hear that now. What's your next gen entry, John? Well, what is your next? I just want to make a couple points before I go into my list. I don't claim to be a professional.

01:05:35.520 --> 01:06:05.420
metal album reviewer or anything like that. Are you serious? Yeah, seriously. But you're on the podcast. I know, I know. Well, this is just more stuff I like. Yeah. Well, it's like if I was to come along and be like, hey, I'm going to come on Will's beer podcast and talk beer like I know what the fuck I'm talking about. Only you probably know more about metal than I know about beer. No, it's just more like there may be, like you could say, like the horrendous album came out as number one on Decibles list. And it may be a technically great album, but

01:06:05.460 --> 01:06:34.260
And I have it and I like it, but I'm not going to put something on my list that I just don't absolutely like. So anyway, the other caveat is my top five is pretty solid. Six through 25 probably could be in any order whatsoever. All right. I think I'm in that same boat. All right. So my number 25, Lord Dying, Poison Altars. It was on my mid-year list. I forgot about that one too. Which is going to happen a lot. Yeah. There's just so much good stuff this year. Yep. Fuck. Jay.

01:06:35.440 --> 01:07:05.280
These guys have a great record in them. They've made a good record this year. Kind of Mastodon-y meets jam-y meets whatever. Elder Lore. That's my number 25. That's a good one. I've been seeing that on some lists and I'm like, no room, man, no room. What's funny is I get a couple times I used to get requests for Elder for the Heavy Metal Knights Retire at the Brewery, but a lot of the songs are like 12 minutes long. Yeah, they all are. Or it goes on at the end of the night. That brings us back to you, John.

01:07:05.440 --> 01:07:33.660
No. No. Oh, I'm sorry, Buke. Yeah, let's just knock these two out. I want to have 25 albums on my list. There's not going to be 27, 28. You're not going to forget six? That's right. You did that. Number 25, Ageless Oblivion with Pentheus. Penthos, whatever it is. Okay. Yep. I feel like I've heard of them. Yeah. Just a deaf band, tech deaf band in a sense. Oh, okay.

01:07:35.460 --> 01:08:05.400
24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18. Age 8, 7, 6. That would be a lot on my list. Again, that was a reaction I know was going to come from my stuff. Okay. Yeah. All right, my 25. It's a band I came across on Bandcamp. I've mentioned them a couple times. Temple of Ball Mysterium. It's like a black death band. In some ways, it's like... Just like number 24, just like number 23. Actually, there's only like four or five black metal bands.

01:08:05.460 --> 01:08:35.400
Bands on my list, I think. But yeah, it's good. It was enough to squeak out. It actually knocked Malakash off as my number 25 to squeak in. John, 24. I told Buke I wasn't going to do this, and I did it. My 24, it's only 24 because I just didn't have three weeks to listen to this album. Wait, didn't have three weeks to listen to all of these albums while the sun. I caught him going to work about this this day. We were talking about this like, I can't put him last. That'd be a dick move. So what do I do? Put him 24.

01:08:37.460 --> 01:09:05.339
But I actually do like it and I like all three albums. Is it Swallow the Sun? It's Swallow the Sun. I was getting to that. It didn't make my list because I have been so busy after it's come out I have not had a chance to just. Yeah. And it's not fair to put it if I haven't listened to it. But I did like the first list. Well it's yeah Songs of the North 1, 2, and 3. I like all three discs. I just don't know which ones I like the most and they're all completely different and I guess if I had more time it would be higher.

01:09:05.460 --> 01:09:35.180
But it's not. Okay. Will? My number 24, I thank Jay for this one. Chapel of Disease, Mysterious Ways of Repetitive Art. All right. Nice. Good record. It is known. It is good. Very cool record. Yeah, I love that one. All right. That brings it to me. I have to thank George for this one, though. Of course, it was all over the world on magazines and the internet. But George is the one who got me to listen to it. Tribulation, The Children of the Night. The Children of the Night. Really? And they are going to be on one of the cooler tours coming around in the new year. Yep.

01:09:35.460 --> 01:09:36.100
I can't wait to see that.

01:09:36.100 --> 01:09:36.420
I can't wait to see that.

01:09:36.470 --> 01:09:37.859
Shibulation, High on Fire, and A Bath together.

01:09:38.640 --> 01:09:40.180
And one other band, but a skeleton witch.

01:09:40.359 --> 01:09:40.500
Yep.

01:09:41.020 --> 01:09:41.700
Yeah, that's it.

01:09:41.770 --> 01:09:43.279
I don't have anything else to say about a really good record.

01:09:43.350 --> 01:09:44.020
I really enjoyed that.

01:09:44.220 --> 01:09:45.880
Put it on quite a bit since the mid-year episode.

01:09:46.299 --> 01:09:46.480
Cool.

01:09:46.980 --> 01:09:47.460
Buke, 24.

01:09:48.360 --> 01:09:49.620
Visigoth, The Revenant King.

01:09:50.160 --> 01:09:50.819
Ah, yeah.

01:09:51.339 --> 01:09:56.420
A lot of people forgot about that album, but it was a solid, solid classic metal sound.

01:09:56.540 --> 01:09:57.180
It really was.

01:09:57.260 --> 01:10:00.360
And at the beginning of the year, I was like, ah, it's totally going to be on my list, but it's not.

01:10:00.600 --> 01:10:02.780
Like so many other albums.

01:10:03.320 --> 01:10:33.260
My Number 24, I can't believe it's this far down on the list, but it's been that kind of year. Skepticism and their new album, Ordeal. I'm surprised it's that far down on your list. I know, so am I. I mean, it probably actually started like halfway down the list and it just kept getting knocked down. You know what's great about that album is they recorded it live in front of a studio audience and you can actually hear in the fadeaways that people are clapping. That album is so tight to be recorded live. As far as that door is closing as they're leaving. Nah, man.

01:10:33.320 --> 01:11:03.240
I'm just bored with that genre right now. That's fine. Take a break. Come back. Yep. We'll be here. Well, what did you think of the third disc then from Swallow the Sun? I didn't listen to it. I haven't had time to, I don't think that's something you could piecemeal listen. Yeah, because they went Funeral Doom on the third one. I just haven't had a full chance. I'll be honest.

01:11:03.340 --> 01:11:33.080
I haven't listened to it at all. John, 23. Yeah, 23. With the dead. With the dead. Can't believe that's not on my list. Which is, I guess, really kind of like what? Extension of Electric Wizard with Lee Dorian on vocals. But it's cool. I think I just found our drinking game. Every time somebody says, I can't believe that's not on my list. I saw this on a list and I went and I gave it a shot. The vocals.

01:11:33.320 --> 01:12:03.280
For me, were a little hard. For this? Mm-hmm. Because I think he went back to his old... Old school, yeah. You know, force equilibrium type vocals a little bit. Mm-hmm. You know. Yeah. Here's a new drinking game. Every time somebody says the word list, we drink. Every time somebody speaks, we drink. Yes. We don't have enough beer. If we don't. Okay, good. My number 23 is Morgoth, Ungod. Yeah, yeah. It's a lot of mid-year list. It's kind of nostalgia for me. I just loved them way back in the 90s and still love them.

01:12:03.320 --> 01:12:33.280
I like them. Good album. It's a great album. Jay? Alright, my number 23. I'm trying not to go with too many of the bands that are just like obvious, but I really did like this record. I thought it was a nice return to form. Niall, What Should Not Be Unearthed. And we had the good fortune to talk to Dallas this year. That was cool. It's a good record. It deserves to be on my list. I agree. I really liked that. I saw at the brewery last night that they're touring coming up soon. Yep. They are coming here and they are playing with a band that is not a metal band that I know. These guys, they rehearse when we

01:12:33.300 --> 01:13:03.280
I don't know how they got on this fucking show, but I'm going to go just to watch people beat these fuckers up, dude. I was going to write to Dallas and say, put us on the fucking show, dude. Yeah, really. At least your metal. Buke. Farrell. Where dead dreams dwell. I knew you were going to put that one on. It's a great again, because classic death sound. Yeah, I bought it after you mentioned it. It sounds a lot like Entombed. Swedish. Yep, it's a good album. I agree. I heard it. I had not heard of them until the mid-term

01:13:03.320 --> 01:13:33.280
your list and you put them on there and i liked it and i bought it yeah cool stuff my number 23 uh from poland migwa and exercises in futility i really think buke should like this album but i know he doesn't has he heard it are you sure he's heard it i believe i have i'm looking it up it's uh m-y-g-l-a it's m-g-l with a line through it a and it's pronounced migwa that's a lot of it's a polish word a lot of people fucking love this album yeah more black metal right

01:13:33.320 --> 01:14:03.040
Yeah, it is. It's one of the few. But it's got a... It's not like fast blast beats and tremolo picking and stuff. It's got more of a groove to it. Have you not heard it? I actually think I have because I think Metal Chris, who gives me tons of music, gave it to me. There's like a character on the front kind of like extending his arms out, like pulling or grabbing something. Yeah, I think you'd like it. It is good. And it's not like... It's not typical.

01:14:03.340 --> 01:14:33.240
This was one of the ones that I had to drop something to put on here because I was listening to it again and I was like, this is really good. So, there you go. 22. That'd be me. Archivist. They're self-titled Archivist. It's a... Black metal? Yeah, atmospheric black metal. Little post-rockish thing going on. They're actually doing what Deaf Heaven should try to do if they're going to go in that genre. If they're going to play that. We were talking about Deaf Heaven so much.

01:14:33.320 --> 01:15:02.320
I think these guys have it down straight the way they do it. And you can actually understand what the guy says. Can I have that again? The name again? Archivist. It's cool. Yeah, I like it. I picked it up on Bandcamp after you told me about it. If that helps spook, it's spelled this way. Archivist. But they pronounce it Archivist. Look at that. Archivist comes up so easily.

01:15:04.460 --> 01:15:32.720
I got something to share with you guys a little bit later. It's classic Buke. Alright, my number 22, Sea Witch, The Black and Sea. Interestingly enough, we named a beer after this album. Our new Cherry Porter at Fairwinds Brewing Company is called The Black and Sea. And I already had the album. So this is just straight up like instrumental doom metal. I think it's a pair of dudes out of Nova Scotia, Canada.

01:15:33.300 --> 01:16:03.240
It's great. It's great. It's great music. But the owner of the brewery does not like heavy metal whatsoever. I should say that. He definitely doesn't like heavy, heavy, heavy metal. He's rock and roll. But anyway, he found this somehow. He just somehow Googled it and came up and sent me the link on the band campaign. I'm like, oh, that's weird. And it was because he was looking for nautical names for a beer. And so we named a beer after this album. It's a good album. I've got that on band.

01:16:05.120 --> 01:16:33.280
I like the name. I'm going to pick it up. I think I saw the picture of your blackboard maybe that was on there when you I'm trying to remember well because you had a picture up the other night. Yeah for the your beer board. Oh yeah. Yeah it's up there. It's been pretty popular beer too. I believe I had some last night. Yeah. I had a lot. All right Jay. I did. All right this one this one I'm surprised that it's on my list at least you know before it came out. I wouldn't have expected it to be on my list but

01:16:33.320 --> 01:17:02.780
I have to say I put this record in 15 times this year at least, maybe more. Slayer Repentless. Motherfucker, I forgot about that album. Drink. Fuck. Really happy with the way it turned out. I did not expect to like it. I haven't liked that much Slayer's done in the last few years, but I thought it was really good. I fucked up on that one. Are you repenting? Yes. Easily. Easily should have made it. With them, not speaking for Jay, but I'm going to say this, they've dropped the ball, in my opinion, in their last couple albums. Sure.

01:17:03.340 --> 01:17:32.580
This was a great album. Return to form. I agree. I agree with you. What's weird is I, I mean, everyone knows I fucking love Slayer. And I can only see a few albums where I thought they kind of dropped the ball. But I've liked every Slayer album ever. And I think they do have a lot of, like a lot of songs that will come out with some singles that are classic will always be played on every album. They do have, you know, quite a bit of filler. But I think people, it seems like people love just to love hate.

01:17:33.020 --> 01:18:02.600
People love to hate Slayer now. Yeah. Because they're like at the top of the heap after a fashion. People love to pick on that. Yeah. Do you think it's because what they did in the past? Because Carrie King's a dick. Yeah. I think that's a dick. But is it also because what they did in the past people keep trying to like look for that new mandatory suicide. That new reigning blood. And what's funny is when South of Heaven came out people that got a lot of shit. Yeah. Really. Because reigning blood. Look how slower it was.

01:18:03.020 --> 01:18:32.900
Yeah, they were, you know, Rain and Blood was fast, and it was short and sweet, and so everybody was expecting that for the next album, and they said, you know, we're not going to, we can't, we can't, we can't go faster, better, let's just take it and go the opposite direction. They go to Spill the Blood, like how slow that song is. I mean, coming, and so they go from Rain and Blood to, you know, end of one album with Rain and Blood, and then the other one with Spill the Blood, and super short. I'm sorry,

01:18:33.020 --> 01:19:02.460
It's a lot slower. And I have to admit that when South of Heaven came out, I was disappointed. I was like, what? I mean, I liked it, but it was no rain and blood. I was like, eh, alright. But now South of Heaven's one of their classic outman. Yeah, it's been out long enough now I can appreciate it. Okay, my number 22. Sorcerer in the Shadow of the Inverted Cross, which is a carryover. Still for my mid-year list. The frontman,

01:19:03.020 --> 01:19:31.940
It exactly sounds like fucking Dio. Very classic. Doom sound in the vein of Dio-like. I liked it a lot. Very powerful, booming stuff. Yep, no surprise there. My number 22, just in case you're wondering, they are not National Socialist Black Metal. They are Stellar Master Elite. And their album 3, Eternalism, The Psychospherical Chapter. You were talking about these guys on one of the last podcasts. We've been talking about these guys with George, okay? Yeah.

01:19:35.620 --> 01:20:02.980
They're from Germany, mind you. Yes, and their record label is Essential Purification Records. Yeah, and the name of the new single is Final Solutions. No, that part is not true. Are you serious? No, no. Stellar Master Elite is the name of a song from Thorns. It's a black metal band from Norway. Perhaps you've heard of them. Yeah. After George announced that they were talking about it, we all got to read the titles and we were like, maybe we better look into this a little deeper. Yeah. It seemed like...

01:20:07.840 --> 01:20:09.500
But it's perfectly harmless.

01:20:09.850 --> 01:20:10.420
It is legit.

01:20:11.050 --> 01:20:11.560
Yeah, it's legit.

01:20:12.840 --> 01:20:14.380
Okay, number 21.

01:20:15.300 --> 01:20:18.040
Alright, this is a holdover from my mid-year.

01:20:18.600 --> 01:20:19.000
Temple.

01:20:19.950 --> 01:20:20.860
The moon lit our path.

01:20:21.700 --> 01:20:23.800
I'm an instrumental guy, so...

01:20:24.400 --> 01:20:29.540
I wonder how many lists that's going to show up on, because that had a strong showing on the mid-year list.

01:20:29.860 --> 01:20:32.180
Well, my number 21 is the exact same thing.

01:20:33.260 --> 01:21:01.880
I'm not kidding. Nice, good job, boy. Jay, what's your 21? From the Joe Violetta and Thorsenbott wider family of bands, Immortal Bird and Persepsis. Nice, great. The only EP that... Would you call it an EP, George? I think they call it an EP, but it's like a good half hour long or so. I thought it was an album. Anyway, great black metal stuff. Very cool. I've listened to that quite a bit.

01:21:01.940 --> 01:21:31.060
What's really great about that EP is one of the songs, I think it's Sycophant or something, it sounds like punk. One of the songs is like a straight-out punk song. It's really interesting. I was listening to the car yesterday. I was like, wow, this is like a straight-out punk song. That's some angry singing, no doubt. I'm doing an edit on the fly because it would be a crime to exclude this from my list. So goodbye, the band that was on it. I'm not even going to mention them. Vol and Deeper Than Sky.

01:21:31.300 --> 01:22:01.000
I knew you were going to like those guys. I was like, when is he going to get to this? I mean, it's the fucking Yob singer, dude. Guy from Yob, Hammers of Misfortune. Take a bunch of different, their band's styles respectively, kind of mix them together and that's what you get here. It's got that punk sensibility to it too, Will, by the way. Okay. That guitar player also used to be in Slough Fag before Hammers of Misfortune. I actually have the album because again, Metal Chris gave it to me. Nope.

01:22:02.780 --> 01:22:31.240
He literally just put a thumb drive in my computer. He just stopped by the brewery, put a thumb drive in my computer and just gave me like 30 albums. I'm like, I don't have time to listen to 30 albums. You going to do a podcast with him next? Maybe I'll make a beer for him. Yeah. Wait, are we 21? 21. Yeah, we're 21. My number 21 is one that I've been hearing about all year and I've been like blowing it off, but I finally gave it a listen. This is Dead to a Dying World.

01:22:31.360 --> 01:23:01.240
and Litany. And I gotta say, I was really fucking impressed by this album. I thought it was, I mean, Dead to a Dying World. That's like a metalcore kind of fucking name. Totally. And so I was like, yeah, whatever. But it's really, it's like Death Doom with, I don't know, a little something else in there. And it's just, it's pretty interesting. So there you go. Number 20. All right, another holdover from the mid-year. Alkaloid, the Malakoth remore. Wow. Yeah, I liked that. I went back and listened to it again after.

01:23:01.320 --> 01:23:30.880
a few months and I heard a few things I didn't hear the first time that I liked. Excellent. So cool. I had the realization last night at dinner with George that that album in talking to you and Jay that this album was a 2015 release. I could have sworn it was 2014. It came out so early. Yeah. Yeah. I came out like March or February or something. Yeah. I think it may have even been earlier than that. Maybe January even. It could have been. Yeah. It could have been. All right. Will number 20. Number 20. Cow Decapitation. The Anthropocene Extinction. Nice.

01:23:34.040 --> 01:24:01.240
I think you got it right brother. Yeah, that's a great record. Definitely a great record. It's good. I should it probably could have been higher my list had I listened to it more but fair enough Jay number 20 holdover from my mid-year list really like these guys a lot looking forward to their future albums E-Reb, Altor, Natrium. Not unexpected. I knew that was gonna be on there somewhere. We knew it was coming. They did you knew that was coming. I like that.

01:24:01.320 --> 01:24:01.440
Yeah.

01:24:02.050 --> 01:24:02.180
Yeah.

01:24:02.190 --> 01:24:02.500
I really,

01:24:02.720 --> 01:24:03.000
that's it.

01:24:03.070 --> 01:24:05.580
Their record has been a pretty regular play with me this year.

01:24:06.040 --> 01:24:06.300
Excellent.

01:24:07.340 --> 01:24:07.620
All right.

01:24:07.960 --> 01:24:08.160
Buke.

01:24:08.340 --> 01:24:08.720
Number 20,

01:24:08.810 --> 01:24:11.420
the album that can shake my fucking house.

01:24:12.100 --> 01:24:13.700
There's a holdover from my mid-year list.

01:24:14.100 --> 01:24:14.940
Crank up the vinyl.

01:24:15.480 --> 01:24:16.400
Turn up the Martin Logans.

01:24:17.400 --> 01:24:18.120
Monolorde veneer.

01:24:18.520 --> 01:24:19.680
Just crushing.

01:24:19.920 --> 01:24:20.520
That was crushing.

01:24:21.180 --> 01:24:22.440
Somebody else mentioned that already.

01:24:22.540 --> 01:24:22.840
Who was it?

01:24:22.840 --> 01:24:24.080
It was honorable mention by Will.

01:24:24.080 --> 01:24:24.340
It was honorable mention.

01:24:24.480 --> 01:24:24.620
Oh,

01:24:24.780 --> 01:24:25.620
it was the Will's honorable mention.

01:24:25.690 --> 01:24:25.780
Yeah.

01:24:25.800 --> 01:24:52.640
I just like the last album they did better. I think John and I talked about this before. The vocals are a little buried. But the instrumental is really pretty cool. It is. Slick look of vinyl too, like emerald jade color. That's really nice. My number 20, Void of Sleep and New World Order. I don't even really know how to describe these guys. I think Black Sabbath pops into my mind because they're kind of doomy. They've got clean vocals.

01:24:55.800 --> 01:24:59.560
at a loss to describe them more. Doesn't Black Sabbath have a song,

01:24:59.640 --> 01:25:02.200
While Asleep? Yes, they do. And Into the Void.

01:25:02.460 --> 01:25:03.220
So there you go. Yeah.

01:25:03.740 --> 01:25:05.080
Void of sleep. Yeah.

01:25:05.700 --> 01:25:07.860
Shall we stop at 20 and refill?

01:25:08.620 --> 01:25:11.640
Ref, refill. When did you guys want to do our surprise?

01:25:11.640 --> 01:25:13.160
Let's do it. Let's do it after we refill.

01:25:13.240 --> 01:25:16.060
Yep. We'll be back and we have a surprise for George.

01:25:16.620 --> 01:25:18.060
We're going to re-freefill. I'm scared.

01:25:19.600 --> 01:25:20.900
Well, if you hear...

01:25:22.840 --> 01:25:24.300
We all have party pants on.

01:25:26.280 --> 01:25:53.940
Magic Metal. I just bend over, rip. Alright, we are back and we have another beer in front of us. What do we got here now? Zombie Dust from, yet again, Three Floyds. I guess this is their flagship, isn't it? Or one of them? One of them, yeah. One of them. What's great is this, it's considered a pale ale, but it's really an IPA and a one, I think a gold medal in the pale ale category at the Great American Beer Fest one year because it's pretty much an IPA. Pretty much.

01:25:54.000 --> 01:26:21.740
But give kudos to John for bringing this back. The bottling date was just two weeks ago. Pretty fresh zombie dust. Cheers, John. It is awesome. I'm pouring. You guys drink up. Thank you. Thank you very much. Apparently there's something going on that I don't know about that is about to be revealed to me. This is a surprise for Jay, too. It will be a surprise, too, Jay, because he doesn't know about it.

01:26:28.679 --> 01:26:53.960
We are about to play the Metalhead Podcast Newlywed Game. Let's find out how well best friends George and Buke know each other. John and I have designed some questions for George and Buke. One sip of zombie dust and I'm done. We're going to find out how well George and Buke know each other.

01:26:54.000 --> 01:26:58.560
We're going to ask George questions about if you can see how right he can get the answers.

01:26:59.500 --> 01:27:00.620
I will announce and...

01:27:00.680 --> 01:27:01.800
Does it go the other way?

01:27:02.220 --> 01:27:02.380
No.

01:27:02.560 --> 01:27:02.660
No.

01:27:05.080 --> 01:27:06.180
Mid-year, next year.

01:27:06.900 --> 01:27:09.820
So it's not really a game, it's more of a punishment.

01:27:12.320 --> 01:27:13.660
Depends how you answer the questions.

01:27:20.600 --> 01:27:20.760
Alright.

01:27:21.739 --> 01:27:50.180
Before we even get started, George, let me just say seven inches. Folding in half. Fold in half. That's a lot of pulling going on there to get that. All right, hit me. All right, question number one. What was Bukes' first metal album? Pantera Reinventing the Steel. That is correct. Yay!

01:27:50.980 --> 01:28:19.040
Yes! Good job! Good job, George! Question number two. What is Bukes' most hated metal band? God, he hates so many. I'm going to guess, without giving it too much thought, I'm going to say Def Heaven. That is not correct. Oh, well, I don't know, I mean, you've got to give me multiple choice here because there are so many.

01:28:21.000 --> 01:28:48.600
Or a couple guesses. Motorhead. He doesn't like Motorhead. Most hated metal band. Most hated? Mayhem? I don't know. That is not correct. So many. What is it? Well... I don't know how to spell it. Meshuggah. Meshuggah? Really? No. Tell. This is what I wanted to bring up. I don't know how to spell it. Oh my god!

01:28:51.000 --> 01:29:20.000
M-S-Y-H-S-U-G-G-A. My sugar. I'm going to cry. I can't even look at my phone. It's like Missy Usuga. Missy Usuga. So, before we continue, I want to ask, how many questions are there? There's a couple. And what do I win if I get our love and affection? All right. What's next?

01:29:21.080 --> 01:29:50.520
Number 3. What was Buke's first vinyl purchase? I was there. Yes. I know what it is. But you got like a couple things that day, didn't you? I got it. But we set out to get one. Oh, okay. No helping. Oh, no help. Well, then that would have been Opeth Watershed. Damn it. I thought it was Deep Purple. Yay! Yay! I shouldn't have said anything, but yes. You had to give me something, because you got more than one. Yeah, you skipped the question. Above it. Oh.

01:29:50.980 --> 01:30:20.360
Sorry. That's okay. This wouldn't be a list with Buk if we didn't skip a question and come back. Question number three slash four. What is Buk's favorite album of all time? Oh, I know what it is. Damn, I'm nailing these. Not a metal album, strictly speaking. Hey, hey, hey, no help. Sorry about that. Oh, is it Rainbow? Not correct. No. I know I'm going to know this, but I give up.

01:30:20.980 --> 01:30:49.960
All right. Let me take a step at it. Alice in Chains. Oh, right. Unplugged. Yes. Yeah. Yep. That is the correct answer. I knew I knew that. Judges. All right. Question number five. What is Bukes' favorite food? Pork chops. That's just because we talked the other day. That is correct. Yay. Yay. What is, question number six. What is Bukes' favorite movie? I sure as hell hope it's Star Wars. Yep.

01:30:52.140 --> 01:31:20.760
I put two on here in case you said Gladiator also. Do you like Gladiator movies? You ever seen a grown man naked? You ever seen a Gladiator naked? You ever been to a Turkish prison? That's what I'm mentioning, we're all rid of California. Question number seven. What is Bukes' middle name? Wow. Bukes. We wanted to rephrase it. What's Bukes' real name? Can I say your real name? Yeah. Yes.

01:31:20.980 --> 01:31:50.960
Good job! Do you pronounce it B****? Yes, that's how it's pronounced. I thought it was B****. No. It's a middle name. Give me an initial. No. There's no help. No, no. Because I've probably heard it. Too bad, you lose. Okay. I'll give you an initial. Q. I don't know if that's it, but I mean, that's an initial. Both of those are incorrect. The answer is B****. I was thinking of Andrew for some reason. Question number eight. What is B****'s birthday? January. I'm going to be off by a

01:31:51.000 --> 01:32:19.600
I want to say 11th, but I think it's the 10th. You were correct in both answers. Man, that's awesome. And what year? Let's see. 84. 83. 83 is correct. Man. I told him last night I had already seen Black Sabbath, Sammy Hagar, Def Lopper. Yeah.

01:32:20.980 --> 01:32:49.840
Pyromania that year. So now that we have your middle name, your full name, and your birthday, somebody can go out there and just steal your credit card. Yeah, what is Bukes' security number? Yeah, what is Bukes' security number? Question number nine. What is Bukes' favorite beer style? Stout. Correct. Yay. Penultimate question. You mean you couldn't come with 10, you had to do 11? Because this one goes to 11? Let's go for 11.

01:32:51.000 --> 01:33:20.900
What is the only book Buk has read? Whatever he read to his daughter last. Those are both incorrect. I don't know. The correct answer is Buk has never finished a book. That's a trick question. Now this last one, I didn't know how to answer it properly because I had a blank in my head when trying to think of a word that's common.

01:33:21.000 --> 01:33:50.420
You had the visual, but not the slang. Question 11. What is Bukes' favorite sexual position? Whatever he can get. I'm going to say my answer because I'm a fucking idiot. I'm going to take the effort out. I said, girl in front, ass up. Ass up, face down. Or toggy.

01:33:50.980 --> 01:34:19.960
That was going to be my guess. I'm an idiot. I'm a fucking idiot. And that's the... I literally had a call as we were coming out. What does this mean? Is this reverse cowgirl? I had a blank, okay? All right. Back to our list. Good job. You did good, George. That was fun. That wasn't too painful. You were a little nervous. Well, I was like, how deep are you going to go that I'm not going to know, you know?

01:34:21.020 --> 01:34:46.760
I'm not completely oblivious. Alright, so we did 20 before we left off. Let's get back with number 19. Number 19, this is one of the bands I kind of lost touch with over the last couple years, and they kind of came back semi-strong, and I think they'll be going in the right direction. That's My Dying Bride, Feel the Misery. I was very disappointed that I realized this morning that was not on my list. Oh, drink.

01:34:50.740 --> 01:35:18.880
They're not there yet, but I think they're going in the direction I want them to go again. Oh, yeah. It's definitely a good album. Yes, I like it. Will, number 19. Battlecross, Rise to Power. Oh, yeah. There you go. Great band. I'm actually kind of friends with them now. They always stop by. Whatever brewery I'm working at, whenever they come there, they always stop by. I have to thank Matt from Yesterday's Saints. They always crash at his house, including this last time. We hung out at the brewery.

01:35:20.740 --> 01:35:50.040
They played with Guar. Hung out with them. Great time. Just the most down-to-earth, good guys, and the music is awesome. Love them. You know, it's cool that, you know, okay, so we don't, our lists don't necessarily agree, but that allows us to get coverage for things that we like that weren't able to make our list. Like, you know, Battlecross. That's a great album. It's not on my list. I'm happy that it's getting some exposure because it's on yours. Yeah, it's great. Jay. All right, my number 19.

01:35:50.720 --> 01:36:20.100
It's a mildly controversial album with some people, but I think at least a couple of us here on the pod agree it's pretty good. Mirkur M. Yeah, baby. Definitely. I'm not going to say much else about it. Female, black metal, vocals recorded and equipped. Can't be much cooler than that. Exactly. Jay, do you ever notice that you always say, I'm not going to say anything more about it, and then you always have like three sentences. I'm not going to say anything more about it except for this and this. That's good.

01:36:20.740 --> 01:36:50.200
Yeah, nice. Puke. This is an album I look forward to before it was announced. When we finally got it, I was really excited. It gave me a touch of Judas Priest, a little touch of Three Inches of Blood. This is Ram and Subversum. I thought that might be on your list. It's good. They're good. Yeah. Okay. My number 19, Shining with Nine, Everyone, Everything, Everywhere Ends. These are guys that, I don't know, they call them Suicide Metal.

01:36:50.740 --> 01:37:20.580
And they're Swedish, not to be confused with the Norwegian Shining, as I was confusing them up until recently. And yeah, it's a pretty cool, slightly avant-garde black metal album. I think there's only one or two more black metal albums on my list. Maybe two. I'm thinking two, depending on how it's classified. Do I have more than you, this list? Maybe. That would be a shock. That would be very shocking. We are about, well, I don't know. Some of these, it's like Black Death, I'm not really sure where it goes.

01:37:21.660 --> 01:37:22.320
All right.

01:37:22.640 --> 01:37:22.800
18.

01:37:24.140 --> 01:37:24.520
All right.

01:37:25.240 --> 01:37:28.260
Heard these guys from our friend Dan up in Winnipeg.

01:37:28.420 --> 01:37:29.060
Immortal Bird.

01:37:30.300 --> 01:37:31.100
Empress Abscess.

01:37:31.660 --> 01:37:32.060
I like it.

01:37:32.400 --> 01:37:33.120
Yeah, good stuff.

01:37:33.560 --> 01:37:36.120
Are you upset that you didn't get the cat sticker?

01:37:36.620 --> 01:37:38.420
Yeah, he's still bothered by that.

01:37:38.980 --> 01:37:39.540
I'm not going to lie.

01:37:39.540 --> 01:37:40.420
I was rubbed the wrong way.

01:37:40.780 --> 01:37:41.140
Yep.

01:37:41.620 --> 01:37:43.420
I had to provide the cat.

01:37:44.000 --> 01:37:45.020
I remember that.

01:37:45.260 --> 01:37:45.400
Yeah.

01:37:46.260 --> 01:37:46.840
Was it Dan?

01:37:47.160 --> 01:37:47.360
Dan?

01:37:47.960 --> 01:37:48.460
Dan's the one.

01:37:48.680 --> 01:37:50.260
Dan, I hope you're listening at some point.

01:37:50.280 --> 01:38:19.560
We have no idea how to pronounce your last name, but I'm assuming it's Claganger or Clagajar. This was his call. Yeah. My number 18, Torch, Restarter. Great. Wow. That is not one I would expect from you. Me either, but I make a lot of lists. Okay, it's not one that I would expect from you again. You know what it was? I kind of liked it. It wasn't that, I shouldn't say, I liked him, wasn't super into him, and then I saw him play live. Kind of like,

01:38:20.120 --> 01:38:49.320
I think kind of skepticism for you guys, like seeing them play live was like, wow, this is amazing. Amazing. Huge. But when you see them play live and they do that thing with the bottom string, which I remember watching it, that they basically just loosen up their top E string, or D string, whatever, I forget it. E. Yeah, E. To the point that is literally just slack sitting there, and then they play it.

01:38:49.780 --> 01:39:19.680
And I was sitting there watching them do this. I was like, what in the wild, wild world of sports is going on here? And then I found out, it's a thing they call the bomb string. But when you see them play live, one of the absolute best live performances I've ever seen in my life. Amazing. Yeah, listening to that album, they're one of those bands that I stop and ask myself, is it okay for me to like these guys? Because they're kind of cool, but they're kind of commercial. Yeah, it's like weird poppy. It's like fuzzy pop. Yeah, but it's a lot of times brutal.

01:39:19.780 --> 01:39:48.680
at the same time. It's weird. I feel the exact same way. Love it. They're great. Jay? I hadn't heard this at mid-year much to I think George and Will's annoyance but it did creep into my list. Took me a few listens. High on Fire, Luminiferous. Nice. I don't think it's quite as good as maybe their last three but it's still great. There's nothing wrong with it. Just the aliens and stuff. Well yeah. Bukes dropped them.

01:40:19.800 --> 01:40:49.700
of the night. We've already talked about that, so let's move on. Alright, another holdover for me at 17. Enslaved in times. Went back and listened to it, still like it. Yeah, those first few songs are so good, dude. Me too. I was like, I should have given it some consideration for the list. Too much good stuff. How do you think it stacks up to all their previous catalog? I like it. I was thinking about that the other day. I kind of like it more than most of this stuff up to Rune. Rune is still my favorite.

01:40:49.760 --> 01:41:19.320
by them. I think, really? Yeah, Rune is... Well, of the progressive version of the band. You like it better than Issa, even? No, up to Rune, I'm saying. Going back towards Rune. Oh, no, Issa's great. Below the Lights is incredible. And this is the progressive... I guess one you mentioned them on, I guess is their progressive period, or the newer progressive. Yeah, I'm kidding. I like it. It incorporates old and new in there. Yeah, it does. Will? All right, my number 17 is Hate Eternal,

01:41:19.400 --> 01:41:49.360
and fairness. Nice. I'm not going to say anything more about it, but I really, really like it. If you're just hearing this band for the first time, I don't know how, but if you want to hear death metal fucking... Rue 10. Yes. The man of death metal himself. Give them a listen. Rue 10. Okay. Jay? Mine's been covered already, but I do want to say it's probably one of the best produced underground metal albums

01:41:49.400 --> 01:42:19.360
the year one of these we live in a weird age dude if this was like you know a few years ago before the internet i think this a lot more people would know about alkaloid the melkuth grimoire so that's my number 17. nice right on nice a little doom here finally making it on my list this is behold the monolith architects of the void really wow i didn't know you liked that mm-hmm yeah it's kind of a cool album i like the new singer better than the old singer even though unfortunately he is dead um but yeah yeah you go

01:42:19.840 --> 01:42:49.320
My number 17, Slugged, Dim and Slime-Ridden Kingdoms. I'm actually surprised that this is this far down on my list. I think it kind of fell, kind of got pushed and shoved back in line, but fucking killer album. So good. Number 16, John. This is one of those bands that snuck in at the very last minute because I was in Baltimore the other day and I bought this. It's been going on and on and on about these guys. On and on. Figured a better listen to them and I dug it.

01:42:49.840 --> 01:43:18.660
Blackfest, Terms of Surrender. It's just thrash, but then the later tracks, the riffs that they get into, man, these are jamming. It's cool. I like it. The future's pretty bright for these kids. They've already started to tour a lot. Damn, that fucks up my other list, because it's not on there, and that needs to be. Well, somebody's getting dropped. My number 16, Ex Genesis, Apothic Vale. We talked about it already. It's great.

01:43:19.380 --> 01:43:48.000
All right, mine, almost not a metal band, but I love these guys, and they're doing cool work right now. Monster Magnet, Cobras in Fire, which is a reimagining of their album from 2012, I think it was, called Mastermind. It's a really good, great record. Good stuff. Good one to drive to. Hell yeah. As I do my number 16, this album, I first listened to it, I didn't like it as much, but as the year went on, I kind of rode it like a wave, you know, love, hate, love. I'm at the love wave right now.

01:43:48.400 --> 01:44:17.980
This is Barren Earth on Lonely Towers. I like the album a lot. It fell off my list, but I love it. It's right up our alley with what you and I really listen to, John. Cool. My number 16 is Ur Dragar and With Hunger Undying. Has anybody else listened to this? Yeah, I did. I almost made my list, George, but just not quite. No. I think it had a possibility to make my list if I had more time because I literally just got it. It just came out a couple weeks ago. Yeah, I saw it two weeks ago.

01:44:18.560 --> 01:44:22.700
And I liked it because we were texting back and forth how much I liked it. I was thanking you.

01:44:23.150 --> 01:44:23.240
Yeah.

01:44:24.020 --> 01:44:28.960
I, you know, it's only 16 on my list, but it's one of those things that I'm digging a lot right now.

01:44:29.570 --> 01:44:29.660
So.

01:44:30.180 --> 01:44:30.380
All right.

01:44:30.700 --> 01:44:30.860
15.

01:44:31.160 --> 01:44:31.400
15.

01:44:31.880 --> 01:44:33.340
Another holdover from last time.

01:44:33.860 --> 01:44:34.700
It's already been brought up.

01:44:35.180 --> 01:44:36.560
Sorcerer in the Shadow of the Inverted Cross.

01:44:37.060 --> 01:44:37.260
Nice.

01:44:37.600 --> 01:44:37.960
Nice.

01:44:38.960 --> 01:44:40.540
My number 15 has also been brought up.

01:44:41.500 --> 01:44:42.000
With the Dead.

01:44:42.320 --> 01:44:42.720
With the Dead.

01:44:42.760 --> 01:44:42.860
Yeah.

01:44:43.200 --> 01:44:43.760
It's a cool album.

01:44:43.930 --> 01:44:44.040
Yeah.

01:44:44.210 --> 01:44:44.480
All right.

01:44:44.560 --> 01:45:12.140
Mine was also brought up as a honorable mention by Buke, Mutoid Man, Bleeder. It's a lot of fun. This record's like 30 minutes long and it's just killer. One of the better shows I saw this year. You got to see them, Jay? I did. They were fucking great. Well, these guys saw them too. You saw them too. I know. That's what I was going to say. I saw them about a week after you did and they remembered you guys. Okay. We saw them at the barbecue and I will say their stage presence was amazing. Those guys were great. This guy came backstage with us and kept hitting the keg.

01:45:14.540 --> 01:45:44.020
He just wouldn't leave. And he kept talking about Phil Anselmo. My number 15, this easily could have been one or two for me because I listen to it a lot. Entrails, Obliteration. Obliteration. This classic Swedish death metal sound. Excellent. You have a lot of Swedish death metal in here. That's right. It's my wheelhouse. Top 25 Swedish death metal bands.

01:45:44.540 --> 01:46:13.900
And that has, you know, one of my favorite songs of the year. Epitome of Death. Epitome of Death. Yeah. That joke's getting a little monotony. Monotony. Monotony. Yeah. Monotony. Monotony. All right. My number 15, Paradise Lost, The Plague Within. Oh, nice. How commercial can I get? But you're not wrong with missing this.

01:46:14.540 --> 01:46:44.460
They also fell out of favor, so I don't think it really is commercial anymore. They're kind of like, no. Because for a while, their people kind of didn't like what they were doing. So that counts. It's been a long road back for them. Yeah. I saw them at the Opeth Tour. Yes. 2003. What did you, were they liked at that time? No, that's when they kind of almost, not even gothic metal, it's just kind of gothic rock. We saw them at Jack's when they were playing that shit. Yep. And they had like fucking, they were like up on stage and like, you know, playing, pressing play on them.

01:46:44.540 --> 01:47:14.520
on the laptop to cue their samples. It was fucking horrible. And George was trying to say the history that these guys have. And I'm sitting there, I'm like, really? They were trailblazers when they first came out. Yeah. With Gothic, right? Late 90s, early aughts. It was just forgettable. Yeah, two albums were just not... The one with the flame on it, the one with the B. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which are not...

01:47:16.380 --> 01:47:17.460
All right, number 14.

01:47:17.980 --> 01:47:21.100
14, another holdover for me, but dropped pretty far.

01:47:21.300 --> 01:47:23.500
It's Leprous, the Congregation.

01:47:23.620 --> 01:47:25.160
That was my number two, I think, in the mid-year.

01:47:25.560 --> 01:47:26.720
Still like it, but...

01:47:26.720 --> 01:47:27.520
How the mighty have fallen.

01:47:28.320 --> 01:47:28.420
Yeah.

01:47:28.780 --> 01:47:29.500
On a lot of lists, though.

01:47:29.740 --> 01:47:32.020
I mean, not to always call that out, but that's one I've seen around a lot.

01:47:32.180 --> 01:47:32.280
Yeah.

01:47:32.600 --> 01:47:32.980
All right, Will.

01:47:33.560 --> 01:47:35.940
Number 14, Immortal Bird, Empress Absence.

01:47:36.600 --> 01:47:37.360
Dory talked about it.

01:47:37.640 --> 01:47:37.720
Yep.

01:47:37.760 --> 01:47:38.960
And yes, I got a cat sticker.

01:47:40.420 --> 01:47:40.680
Uh-huh.

01:47:41.000 --> 01:47:41.380
Making the rounds.

01:47:41.580 --> 01:47:42.160
That's on a few lists.

01:47:43.360 --> 01:47:43.820
Yeah, sorry.

01:47:43.860 --> 01:48:13.820
The whole cat thing is when you order the CD from Bandcamp from Immortal Bird that Ray will literally just like hand write you a note. She didn't write me a note when I ordered the vinyl. She wrote me a note when I ordered her a shirt and I mentioned we talked about her on the podcast with Joel. Yeah I got the vinyl. I didn't get anything. But she put a little like funny cat sticker on the post-it note. Yeah I think you posted it on Twitter or something. John ordered it at the same time and got it a couple days later and didn't get a cat sticker. So I had to put my own cat in the picture. Alright this one will probably be represented here at least by

01:48:13.840 --> 01:48:43.800
One Person I think but I haven't seen anybody's fucking year-end list online. Tal Cross, self-titled, Supergroup. Fucking great record, dude. Crickets. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, it's a good album. It is. But when it came out, though, it was just getting boatloads of press. I know what that is. Nobody's talking about it at the end of the year. I absolutely love it. Fucking catchy. Yeah, it's the riff machine of the year, I think. Totally. Yeah. Booky. I had a double on here, which allows me, luckily, to slide in

01:48:43.840 --> 01:49:13.800
I've been to number 14 because when I did my list, if I would have not put this on my top 25, it would have been a crime. After, to me, their last couple albums were not bad, but I didn't like them as much as Skyforger, Amorphous, Under the Red Cloud. That's a great album. Amazing album. Very good album. So good. Amazing album. It's, looking at lists, it's popping up everywhere. It's, every list pretty much has them on it at some point. My number 14, Avatarium, The Girl with the Raven Mask. I have not listened to it. I just, I told you, I could

01:49:13.840 --> 01:49:43.780
I don't think it wasn't bad. I just don't think the vocals, her style, I think it was too good for the music. That's why it's on my list. I really dislike all the symphonic metal bands, the Nightwishes and Epica and bands like that. I've heard a million of them and I don't care. And so something like this where it's just amazing vocals over fucking heavy Candlemas style music. I fucking love it.

01:49:43.820 --> 01:49:51.980
I think the lyrics are a little bit closer to like the Hank Sherman

01:49:52.670 --> 01:49:52.940
you know

01:49:54.660 --> 01:49:59.600
I just personally didn't think the lyrics not the lyrics the her vocal styles fit

01:50:00.140 --> 01:50:04.800
that slower I thought it was brilliant but you know hey yep you say tomato I say fuck you

01:50:06.900 --> 01:50:12.659
again there's no trash talking here because it's you know yeah we all like what we like it is what it is

01:50:12.660 --> 01:50:42.440
Yep. All right. John, number 13. Black metal again for me. Migwa. Exercises in Fertility. Nice. I like it. I think it's a nice, just straight black metal album, but it's not a, you know, a blasphemy crunch. It's got a nice groove and rhythm to it. You could totally get into this. And you have to headphone it. You're going to get a lot of intricacies and I knew when this came out, it was popping up everywhere. It is. It's on a lot of lists. It's still holding high on a lot of places. It is. Yeah. It sounds good. The production's,

01:50:42.680 --> 01:51:11.820
It's not over-produced, but it's a nice, clear production. But it's not, you know, still kind of got that thin-ish black metal sound. So, yeah, it's good. It's very good. Will. My number 13, Ingested, The Architect of Extinction. Brutal, brutal technical death metal. I picked that up after your mid-year list. It's good stuff. Yeah, it is. All right, mine is, we're in 13. I apologize, George and Duke. It's going to be the one you hate me for the most. Vatnet Viscar Settler. Moving on.

01:51:13.980 --> 01:51:42.500
Just the recording quality was just... Yeah, I like the last one better, I think. It's just me. Didn't do it for me. But you know. That last track on there, the whole record's good, but the last track is just triumphant, man. But yeah, they're a real divisive band. Yeah, cool. I think if we were to assign points to each time it appears on the list, this may be the album of the pod, Alkaloid. Malkuth Grimoire. Malkuth Grimoire. How many is that, three now, or four? I think that was three. Three? Yeah.

01:51:42.680 --> 01:52:12.640
I can assure it's not on my list. Okay. Oh, quitter. Yep. I was like, I want guard weirdness. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's technical death metal. It's the, it's the drummer and the guitar player from obscura and the singer for dark fortress. Did you see the new obscure video, John? Not yet. No, that was the one album. I thought I agreed. I thought it was going to be on every list. All right. I'll check it out. Oh yeah. It's going to be on everybody's fucking awesome. All right. My number

01:52:12.680 --> 01:52:42.600
13. Surprised us down this far, but Ahab, the boats of the Glen Carrick. Sweet. Yep. That got a lot of play at the brewery. Good. Yeah, that's a great record, man. That's Bukes' favorite. What with all those black sea witches and waves and oceans and... If you haven't caught on at our brewery, the owner was a Coast Guard guy, and so all our beer names have to be nautically themed or named. Fairwinds. Fairwinds Brewing Company may always have Fairwinds and Falling Seas, a quote from Moby Dick.

01:52:42.880 --> 01:53:12.640
So we play a lot of gnarly themed metal as well. Just sit right back and you'll hear. Tale of a fateful trip. Very nice. That was pretty good. Turn it on this traffic board aboard this tiny ship. Getting turned on right now. Me and George. Next year, Metalhead's podcast band featuring George

01:53:12.660 --> 01:53:42.500
vocals and vocals and vocals and J on everything else. All right. All right. 12. We've said it already a couple times. Tribulation. Children of the night. I'm not going to say any more about it. And look, he didn't. Yeah, maybe I will. I keep, so my list, I'm the only one with a paper list. I keep putting it down, so I'm assuming everybody knows the rest of my list. Nope, I haven't looked. All right. 12. Skepticism. Ordeal. Nice. We talked about it a little bit.

01:53:42.660 --> 01:54:12.620
The fact that this was recorded live was it gave it extra points because it is such a good recording is so tight and actually to hear after the song ends you just hear this like it's like a golf clap kind of yeah it's almost like there's a polite audience just listening to this stuff it's like it's amazing. Huge. I probably should have given it more points for that but it was actually higher up and it just kept moving around. You know what's weird is I

01:54:12.660 --> 01:54:42.620
I first learned of skepticism when you guys talked about them on the podcast at death fest and I listened to some of it but I was like it's kind of hard to get into because it just really takes a long time yeah it's funeral doom but I think on this one it kind of it got me a little bit better I got it I should say I got it a little bit better I felt like it was a better better album than the previous one so it's good right on I won't say anything more Jerry a record that

01:54:42.660 --> 01:55:12.500
I would just say there's more to this record than meets the eye. You really got to listen to it. And it is a shout out to my boy Will, Chapel of Disease, Mysterious Ways of Repetitive Art. Nice. I really shouldn't have done that growling in my throat. Oh my gosh. Have some zombie dust. Thank you. My number 12, maybe the most accessible on my list. Or the best. Byzantine. To release is to resolve. Okay.

01:55:12.640 --> 01:55:42.620
No, no, no, no. I have something to say about this. I used to love, I loved, I liked Byzantine. I loved the older Byzantine. They're, I can't remember the name of the album. I played it so many times. One of their albums is completely, it's great. But I felt like they've gotten more commercial and accessible in the last one. I wanted to mention that. Yeah. They Shall Take Up Serpents. If you want to hear great Byzantine, listen to that album. It's really great. But the latest couple has just been sort of like, the previous, well, they've been

01:55:42.640 --> 01:56:12.060
They broke up and then I guess they got back together for this album. But the previous album, Oblivion, they kind of got a little bit more commercial there. And then this album was like a lot more clean singing and the cleaner singing is more clean, I guess. If that makes any sense whatsoever. Cleaner clean. Yeah. I guess that's me. I'm probably going to butcher their name, but Mephorish? Mephorash? I don't know how to say it. Their album's called 1557 Rights of Nullification. This is my, nope, third to last black metal album.

01:56:14.780 --> 01:56:16.800
I keep seeing other ones on there but yeah

01:56:17.500 --> 01:56:23.300
uh fiend from uh my that demons be scribbling actually uh mentioned this one and uh I

01:56:23.440 --> 01:56:28.920
fucking loved it and it's it's really cool because it's not only black metal but it's got this huge

01:56:29.170 --> 01:56:34.800
epic like orchestral thing going on in the background that you know with like bells and chimes and

01:56:35.480 --> 01:56:40.940
and like choirs and stuff and it's really impressive so hey jay I got a question for you would you

01:56:40.960 --> 01:57:10.120
You classify Chapel of Disease or Immortal Bird as black metal? Not Chapel of Disease, definitely not. I would call Chapel of Disease, to me they remind me of like 80s death metal with a weird mix of Leonard Skinner jamminess, you know what I mean? As weird as that sounds. They use older school riffs, but I would call Immortal Bird black metal. I'd call it like Black Crust. Yeah, I was just wondering if I had any black metal on mine and they're the two that kind of stuck out as possibles. Okay.

01:57:10.600 --> 01:57:40.040
It's like the mayhem at number one. Oh, you got that too? 1994 album? Yeah. All right, John, number 11. Number 11, I'm sure none of you have this on your list. This is one of my prog bands. This is King Crow, Eidos. I saw that. And I heard it. It's on the Metal Storm top 25 too. And I went and checked out everything there. And I liked it. I mean, it's not on my list, but not unknown to me. Speaking of your top,

01:57:40.180 --> 01:58:09.900
whatever list, the year-end list. Did you notice that if you log into iTunes on Friday, it's New Heavy Metal Friday, I don't think there was any new metal release, but it was just the best of 2015. And a lot of the bands we were talking about it on, their featured top albums of the year. Is King Crow this band's first album, John? No, they've been around a long time. Who do you recommend to start with? I can't pronounce the name. The last three have been really good. They've had the same singer for the last three. They're an Italian band.

01:58:10.180 --> 01:58:39.320
So if you listen to any Italian prog, Italian singers can be a little harder to, because the accent is a little thicker. So the last three I think have been very good. All right, we are number 11. Paradise Lost, The Plague Within. Nice. This is a late one for me this year, and Sirius XM, Liquid Metal, kept playing their stuff, and I had it, and I kept listening to it, and I just kept wanting to listen to it again and again. I was kind of surprised, because I didn't think, it seemed,

01:58:40.160 --> 01:59:10.140
I never had another Paradise Lost album and I think Despo Magazine had a like a do the Doom Metal edition and some of the old Paradise Lost was in there I'm like okay I love Doom let me go check them out and I checked some of the older stuff out and then I got this new one and I really dig it it's good yeah great it is big and away to anyone who has the newest issue of Despo Magazine you'll see my brewery in the it again yeah oh is it when is it when did it come out well when is the I have a subscription so if you have a subscription to it you should have got it a couple weeks ago but it's weird because

01:59:10.180 --> 01:59:40.120
Because if you have a subscription, you get that almost a month before it hits newsstands sometimes. Yeah, I know. I'm like, why am I reading the best of in November? Yeah, so this is the fourth time either me or the brewery I've worked for has been in Decibel Magazine. Thank you, Adam. And speaking of which, we got the, I always bring it, the Decibel Magazine Brutal Truth Guide to Extreme Beer. I bring it to all the podcasts because I think we're going to drink one of the beers in here today. It's all dog-eared, well-liked.

01:59:40.180 --> 02:00:07.600
Yes. Beer saturated. Yep. John and I drank almost, we only had, we were four short, I think, of drinking all 113. Of beers that had a single page. Yeah. We hit a bunch of the side column beers. Yep. But you have four short. Yeah, he does like a little description of a group of beers and he throws some names out there and then each beer gets a single page. This book is literally written for us. It's beer and heavy metal. That's all it is. All right. Jay number 11.

02:00:10.180 --> 02:00:40.140
to get into this record and it's one of the workers I was turned around on this year when I first heard it I was not very kind to it on the podcast but I like it a lot now Swallow the Sun songs from the north one two and three it's great it's really good we've mentioned it a couple times here in the pod Blackfast Terms of Surrender it's great young kids doing some thrash pretty awesome what's great about a little side note is when Battlecross is at the brewery and I was at like so what do you want to play and I got just pick it so I just put on Blackfast

02:00:40.180 --> 02:01:10.140
very similar to Battlecross to me and I guess there's a guy Marshall who's with them who does their sound who's in another I think he's in Havoc maybe I think but he did the sound for the Gloom album and because I was wearing my Gloom shirt and he's like hey you know those guys like yeah but he did I think the sound for the or knows the guys in Blackfast as well so they were supposed to send me a hoodie or something but they epic fail Blackfast probably my favorite interview of the year was talking to them right on yeah it was a good interview

02:01:10.180 --> 02:01:39.600
All right, my number 11, this is Bell Witch, Four Phantoms. I saw it. They were so good live. Probably the best live show I saw this year. Yeah. He's probably sitting there cursing under his breath. 11? You only gave that a fucking 11? God damn it! Hey, it's on your list. And you're probably the only one who's got it on your list, George. So you're the only one who gave it a try. I just didn't hold my attention. I did too. Yeah, yeah. You gotta give it a lot. You gotta give it a lot, but it pays off big. Yep. So should we take a break before the... Beautiful.

02:01:46.219 --> 02:01:47.940
All right, we're back.

02:01:48.930 --> 02:01:50.580
And before we get into our top ten,

02:01:50.900 --> 02:01:55.000
Buk and I are drinking Iron Maiden's Trooper from the can.

02:01:55.880 --> 02:01:58.980
And Will and John are drinking...

02:01:59.100 --> 02:02:01.320
We're drinking Ninkasi Slayer.

02:02:01.740 --> 02:02:02.740
Fucking Slayer!

02:02:02.920 --> 02:02:03.340
Slayer!

02:02:04.360 --> 02:02:06.400
Which is featured in the Brewtruth Guide to Extreme Beers.

02:02:06.510 --> 02:02:08.640
Buy it for your loved one for Christmas.

02:02:08.940 --> 02:02:09.520
Buy it for yourself.

02:02:09.820 --> 02:02:37.320
I pipped this book so much. Yes. You should get kickbacks from it. Yeah. He does. He puts me in Decibel Magazine four times. Yeah. You've got plenty. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So, John, you're number 11. You just said we're doing our number 10. Number 10. Sorry, number 10. Malakash. Enki. Enki. Come on, Buke. What is it?

02:03:09.840 --> 02:03:38.620
No, I don't think so. I mean, I know so. Because I just heard it from you. No, it's awesome. Yeah, that's good. I'm brutal. Death, dude, it's great. All right, one of my carryovers. This was my number one at the beginning of the half year. Soul for Eon, Gateway to the Antisphere, which I just want to show you also gets my vote. Here's that fucking packaging again. It's fucking amazing, dude. Look at this fucking record. Look at this gatefold shit here. Wow. Can you keep it there for the rest of the pod? Yeah, every time.

02:03:40.680 --> 02:04:09.600
Jay's always looking for an excuse to flash his package. Yeah, he always has packets again and again. Came with a poster, came with a book, cool shit. And it's a great record. Will, were you the one that had that on there? Who had that on there? I mentioned it as one of my honorable mentions. One of your honorable mentions, yeah. Good death metal record. You may hear it again. There you go. And it's also everything themed in the world of Lovecraft. Yeah. My number 10 is a band that already mentioned.

02:04:09.860 --> 02:04:38.460
No, it's not. This is a band that... I went back and forth on this album a lot, but I really just get to the point because nobody cares. Between the Barred and Me, Coma, Ecliptic. Did put it up there. Yeah. Okay. It was just an album that you and I were excited for, and then I will say this, it's staying power because it was a little over the map. Yeah. All right. My number 10, Amorphous Under the Red Cloud. Which needs no further introduction. Not at all. All right.

02:04:39.820 --> 02:05:07.700
Is there an album that's been on everyone's list already? Only three of them so far. Three is the max. Yeah, three so far is the max. There'll be another one on the list here. Yeah, there's a few. Trust me, there's another one coming up. Number nine? Number nine. Number nine. My favorite tech death band, and these guys are badass. I'm just finding them for the first time, so I'm a little disappointed that I missed them. I hope I say this right.

02:05:10.440 --> 02:05:39.800
That is some good stuff if you haven't heard it. Gorod. Gorod. Yeah. It's a tech death band with a lot of jazz influence, I think. As so many tech death bands do. Like your boys from Perihelion. That's right. Yeah, those guys. All right. My number nine, High on Fire, Luminiferous. Number nine. Number nine. Number nine. My number nine, my favorite debut of the year, Kretus Dux Mia Lux. I knew that was going to be on there. I was surprised to hit number nine on your list, Jay. I thought we were

02:05:41.680 --> 02:06:09.800
If it had been a longer record, I think it would. I'm really excited to see what these guys do when they make a full record. Because I don't think there's a minute on this record that I don't like. Yeah, you were high on this right from the second you heard it. That's a great EP. It's really good. And they've got this kind of weird ghost thing going on too. So we'll see what happens to these guys. It's a good record. Yeah, I heard somebody described it as ghost but better. Like it's what ghost should sound like or something like that. Yeah, I think that's a reasonable description. It was already mentioned my favorite violinist.

02:06:09.880 --> 02:06:39.660
Play of the Year, Elder Lore. Cool? Yep. That's a pretty looking vinyl too, Buke. I don't have the vinyl. I got mine from our friend One Neutrino from, I'm going to get the shop wrong, Apocalypse or Armageddon up in the Boston area. Yeah, it's one of those. They actually do their own releases with these bands. Like they're released through the store. They have its own kind of exclusive packaging. Pretty cool. Sorry?

02:06:39.840 --> 02:07:09.760
My number nine, I know this is going to be on a couple other lists, but it's going to be a bit closer to the end. This is Wilderun, Sleep at the Edge of the Earth. Never heard of them. Never heard of them? You should check them out. What are they like? They're kind of like shit with stuff. You know, for you, John and Buke, a buddy of mine who's a loyal listener, he sent us his list, and that was his number one record.

02:07:09.840 --> 02:07:39.780
of the year. And you totally heard about that from you. That's the kind of worldwide influence you're having now. Of course, he's in Texas. Shaping lists. Shaping young minds. I hope we're not shaping young minds because their whole grammar and... We're warping minds. Speaking of shaping minds, what I hate about... I shouldn't say hate. What annoys me about this own podcast I'm a part of and I am guilty... You are guilty. Totally guilty is I can't listen to this with the kids in the car.

02:07:39.840 --> 02:07:41.000
because there's too much swearing.

02:07:42.860 --> 02:07:43.260
Fuck!

02:07:44.560 --> 02:07:46.960
Sometimes I put the audio all the way in the front and left.

02:07:47.680 --> 02:07:49.380
The only speaker is a driver's speaker.

02:07:49.480 --> 02:07:50.480
I haven't played this for my dad.

02:07:50.520 --> 02:07:52.020
He goes, do you guys need to curse so much?

02:07:54.700 --> 02:07:54.820
Yes.

02:07:55.280 --> 02:07:56.060
Dad, you were a cop.

02:07:56.080 --> 02:07:56.580
What are you doing?

02:07:56.640 --> 02:07:57.600
You curse all the time.

02:07:58.360 --> 02:07:59.160
Dog nabbit.

02:08:01.100 --> 02:08:02.880
Okay, number eight.

02:08:03.280 --> 02:08:06.480
This is a holdover, and I know this will be on nobody's list.

02:08:06.520 --> 02:08:36.500
And I'm doubting anyone listening to this, but I am a big fan of these guys. Instrumental prog jazz metal band called Morgable from France. Tea Time for Punks. Okay. That was on your mid-year, right? That was on my mid-year. I'm a big fan of it. Good memory. I've been a fan of these guys for 15 years. Can you spell the band name? M-O-R-G-L-B-L. Morgable. All right, so my number eight, Soul for Aeon, Gateway to the Antisphere. My boy Will. These guys, I actually had to look it up because

02:08:36.540 --> 02:09:06.360
These guys sound a lot like God Dethroned. And I actually had to look it up to see it was like former members of God Dethroned. I don't think it is. But they sound a lot like God Dethroned who does like a lot of World War I theme albums and stuff from the Netherlands. Good stuff though, man. Yeah, it's great. I love it. Alright. Jay, number 8. Been spoken about. We're getting some doubles now. Enslaved in Times. Nice. Nice. That was a great record. I mean, I'm probably going to be the only one with this on my list for number 8. But I mentioned them.

02:09:06.540 --> 02:09:36.380
My first album on the podcast on episode one, Savior's Palace of Vision. I just finally got that. Oh, dude, that's a fucking really good record. You want to hear a group of guys that fucking riff? No, I was going to be an honorable mention for me at least. I really like that record, dude. Good call. Love these guys. They're on tour right now. My number eight. This is an album that was on my mid-year list, and I'd really hoped that this would be able to climb its way up to number one,

02:09:36.540 --> 02:10:06.080
because I really dig these guys. I fucking love all the guys in this band. They are fucking killer, whether I knew them or not. Unfortunately, there's just so much good stuff, but at least they cracked the top ten. It says Yesterday Saints and Generation of Vipers. Well done. I figured it was going to be there somewhere. Yeah, I really was like, yeah, I think they were like number four on my mid-year. They were my number one. Yes, I remember that. Jay, have you heard these guys yet? I have. I like it, dude.

02:10:06.520 --> 02:10:09.900
I don't like it as much as you two like it in all honesty but I mean I think it's a good record

02:10:11.860 --> 02:10:17.120
to me they have just a little Nevermore flavor to them which I like I love as a matter of fact

02:10:18.200 --> 02:10:23.880
it's good stuff dude they're telling the dudes yeah number seven draconian sovereign yes

02:10:26.240 --> 02:10:32.540
yes yeah yes think of doom a little gothic doom yeah she sounds like the singer from within

02:10:32.640 --> 02:11:01.620
Temptation a little bit. Yes. Where are they from? They are, I believe, Swedish. Well, if Buick likes them, they're Swedish. You know, what I was thinking about is what we should have done. I actually did think about this ahead of time. I just never got around to doing it myself, let alone asking you guys to do it. But we should, and we do it a lot, but with every band that we're mentioning, put the, where they're from, like what country, and tabulate.

02:11:02.100 --> 02:11:31.380
Like all from around. Oh, you got it. Done. Done. I already did it. Let's see which is the most metal country. Yeah, kind of. Yeah, that's a good idea. They are Swedish. Yeah, when we're done, I'll let you know what my list says. Yes. All right, number seven. Nile, what should not be on Earth. Again, I'm sorry. That was so high for you. I thought it would have been lower. United States. Like higher? Sorry, I thought it would have been higher up. Not where it ended up.

02:11:34.000 --> 02:11:34.740
Yeah, absolutely.

02:11:35.420 --> 02:11:35.700
Oh, yeah.

02:11:36.060 --> 02:11:36.940
We haven't had that talk yet.

02:11:36.950 --> 02:11:37.500
We will sometime.

02:11:37.720 --> 02:11:38.660
We'll have the talk.

02:11:38.860 --> 02:11:41.160
We sort of did, but it was after the barbecue.

02:11:41.900 --> 02:11:42.680
I don't know what you...

02:11:42.700 --> 02:11:42.880
Oh, God.

02:11:43.860 --> 02:11:44.400
That's right.

02:11:47.940 --> 02:11:48.800
We won't mention that again.

02:11:51.340 --> 02:11:52.320
All right, my number seven.

02:11:53.050 --> 02:11:54.620
I got to thank George for this one.

02:11:54.620 --> 02:11:59.040
It was widely visible, but George kind of pushed me onto it somehow.

02:11:59.800 --> 02:12:00.520
Arcturus Arcturian.

02:12:00.900 --> 02:12:01.200
Yeah.

02:12:01.980 --> 02:12:30.700
Yeah, I love everything about it, including the weird vocal style. That record's a lot of fun. Number... Wait, what number was that? We're on seven. This, I'm telling you right now, boys, one through seven was a fucking battle. Yeah, cage match. This was when it really got down and dirty for me. This album, I could not stop playing enough, and I want to fucking play it right now. Black Tongue, The Unconquerable Dark. Deathcore. Okay, it is.

02:12:32.820 --> 02:13:01.680
George Burling, yeah, what if that core? Yeah, I didn't say it was metal core. That's just what it is. No, but that's the rough equivalent of this. It's not a compliment. Yeah, I didn't mean it that way. No, no, no. You're a big jerk. I know, I didn't mean it that way. God damn it, George. Disappointment in his eyes. How can you do that to him? All I want is just a little tenderness. Sorry, sweetie. My number seven, High on Fire,

02:13:02.320 --> 02:13:31.920
Luminiferous. Wow. Nice. So that's three lists. Yep. And George is a convert to High and Fire, so it's nice to know he charted so high with them. I mean, not a convert, but I mean, this is one of the first records I'm aware you've really been into. I think Snakes for the Divine was the first one where I was really like, okay, I get this. I think that was the best one they've ever done. And I've got to tell you, of all the albums on my list, this is probably at least one of the few that immediately rocketed onto the list for sure with a bullet. I was like, oh,

02:13:31.980 --> 02:14:01.520
I fucking love this album as soon as I heard it. I think Testable Magazine put it like number five. I think it was in their top five. It was pretty high. It's got some serious riffage. Yeah, it does. It's in a few, and I looked at that iTunes list on our break, Will, and it's on that, too. I just really love the guitar tone and the production on it. It's just nice. Right on. Number six. Sorry, High on Fire and Testable Magazine is number four. What's their number one, Will?

02:14:02.880 --> 02:14:31.500
Horrendous. Horrendous. Wow, it's horrendous. No, really, it is. Chuckle, chuckle. Who's this Lucifer girl? That's not metal. It's not very good, dude. At least I didn't like it very much. That's bad. That's the chick from that other band, The Oath, or something like that. Yeah. John, number six. Number six. I already mentioned a couple times, Paradise Lost, The Plague Within. Excellent. Oh, nice. So that's three. Three lists?

02:14:32.480 --> 02:15:00.980
I had it. Who else saw Paradise Lost? George. Okay. Will. My number six, Ode to Sun, The Dark Dunes of Titan. Nice. Nice. That is an amazing... I know why John likes it so much because it reminds me a lot of Opeth. It's great. Say it again. Ode to Sun. It's O-D-E-T-O-S-O-N. Like Ode to the Sun, but without the the. On the last episode, I completely fucked up the pronunciation on this. I think I called them Ode to Sun. Yeah.

02:15:01.980 --> 02:15:31.500
It's all one word. But yeah, that's a good album. Have you not heard that puke? I have not. Oh, it's awesome. You will love it. I guarantee it. Yeah, it's definitely. We'll sample after this and you'll. I heard this one partly because our friend Greg told us about it. And, you know, when Will jumped on board with it, I was like, okay, I definitely got to hear this. Was Greg Kelly the one who. Yes, he's the one. It was the first time I heard about it was when he mentioned it. I mean, I heard about it from one of you guys. Maybe it was you or whoever, but yeah, it's killer.

02:15:31.980 --> 02:16:01.660
I love it. Alright, not unlike George's High and Fire experience, this is the record that when I heard it, it just went way up my list. Sludge, Dim and Slime-Ridden Kingdoms. Yeah, baby. So good. Yeah, it was a great album. It's really good. These guys were a great discovery for me this year to have found them. Three great records out. New one's wonderful. Puke, number six. This was so hard to put this on number six because this is such a brilliant, mature album from these guys. Probably should have been number two or three.

02:16:01.740 --> 02:16:02.760
This is hard to say.

02:16:04.020 --> 02:16:07.320
Caldo Decapitation, The Anthropocene Extinction.

02:16:07.840 --> 02:16:09.540
I can't believe you put that at number six.

02:16:09.720 --> 02:16:11.380
It should have been way higher, I'm telling you.

02:16:11.620 --> 02:16:12.060
It's got a record.

02:16:12.700 --> 02:16:13.980
It's an amazing album.

02:16:14.320 --> 02:16:14.760
Yes, it is.

02:16:15.240 --> 02:16:16.180
It hurts me to put it down.

02:16:16.320 --> 02:16:17.680
I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

02:16:17.720 --> 02:16:18.580
I had that on my list.

02:16:18.680 --> 02:16:19.840
I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

02:16:19.840 --> 02:16:21.620
If I had more time, if I spent more time with it.

02:16:22.280 --> 02:16:23.800
It probably should have been number two for me.

02:16:23.900 --> 02:16:24.680
I don't know what I'm doing.

02:16:25.240 --> 02:16:25.460
Yeah.

02:16:26.260 --> 02:16:29.800
My number six, Dodd-Heimsgaard, A. Umbra Omega.

02:16:30.120 --> 02:16:31.620
I didn't know if that would even be on your list, though.

02:16:32.000 --> 02:17:01.219
It's still really good. It's just not number one anymore. Well, it's a pretty healthy fall, you know. Yeah, but you know, it's still in the top ten. It's almost in the top five. Fair enough. But you know, my top five, that is the shit right there. It's about to get ugly. Top five, that's when the insults really start flowing. Are you fucking kidding me? Speaking of, John. All right, number five. Should we take a break before we go to the top five? Yep. All right, we can do it.

02:17:01.639 --> 02:17:31.460
One last break. Take one last break and we're getting into the top five. More beer to drink. Yeah. I'm surprised you have not listened to that album yet. I will say, you guys were instantly blowing up raving about it. Alright, we are back to do our top five. But before we get into that, we are drinking what? Amber Smashed Face. But the official Catamble Corps.

02:17:31.660 --> 02:18:01.620
beer brewed by three floyds three floyds again another three floyds you got all of them you see a theme here if you want a metal beer three floyds is the pretty much people who make them so and surly so the last beer we're going to have today is actually a surly brew nice is that the 1349 yes indeed oh yeah i forgot about that all right okay well let's get into our top five so we can uh we'll just clarify it before we'll we'll have this and then before our number one we'll go get the

02:18:01.679 --> 02:18:31.580
We'll do it. All right. Cheers, guys. Cheers. Cheers, as always. Jay, to you, to Jay. That's fun. Jay, it's 1.15 over there now. You should be drinking beer. It's past noon. I'm getting ready to eat lunch. Go get your burritos. You guys remind me of the Frank Sinatra toast, which is here's to Epson friends. Fuck them. I think the joke is if you're not here. This is really good.

02:18:32.179 --> 02:19:01.540
I like it. That's bitter too. Yeah, that's what I love about it. So good. Let's do this shit. Alright. Here we go boys. This is where the fighting happens. There'll be no fighting because these are all awesome albums. And we know that. Alright, my number five has been mentioned already a couple times. Absolutely love it. Amorphous, Under the Red Cloud. Hell yeah. Nice. My number five, and I really struggled where to put this on my list, Slayer.

02:19:01.960 --> 02:19:02.240
Repentless.

02:19:02.519 --> 02:19:02.900
All right.

02:19:03.460 --> 02:19:03.900
All right.

02:19:04.420 --> 02:19:05.300
I'd like to see it represented.

02:19:05.679 --> 02:19:05.900
Yes.

02:19:06.519 --> 02:19:09.360
We have two people that are not repenting having it on their list.

02:19:10.219 --> 02:19:10.660
There it is.

02:19:11.380 --> 02:19:14.440
I would just say for the record, I just want to say, that's all I'll say about it.

02:19:14.620 --> 02:19:15.340
I want to say one more thing.

02:19:18.040 --> 02:19:20.240
There's only actually one song in the album I don't like.

02:19:20.250 --> 02:19:20.920
It's that song Vice.

02:19:22.380 --> 02:19:22.460
Yeah.

02:19:22.559 --> 02:19:28.139
It's just kind of, I have to say the lyrical content on the new album is not as good as previous albums.

02:19:28.160 --> 02:19:28.240
Yeah.

02:19:28.920 --> 02:19:30.240
It's not very slurry lyrics.

02:19:30.450 --> 02:19:30.540
Yeah.

02:19:30.820 --> 02:19:30.860
Yeah.

02:19:30.900 --> 02:20:00.220
Yeah, some of them are a little silly at times. Yeah, Carrie shouldn't be writing lyrics. Yeah, riffs, yes, lyrics. Great riffs on the record. My five also mentioned Ahab, the Boats of Glen Kerrig. Nice. A lot of great riffs on that record. Very much. Probably the catchiest album on my list, Tal Cross, their debut. That's two. Nice, making it into the top five. Very cool. That song, Lazarus. Could listen to that on repeat.

02:20:01.920 --> 02:20:30.400
I don't think there's really much of a chance of at this point of one album being on everyone's list. I thought it was a good shot. Not having. I think I don't know. I think we're close. I think there might be one. I don't think so. My number five cattle decapitation the Anthropocene extinction. There you go. So that's three or four lists. Shut up. I just speak for George and say remember this was a fucking grind band. Look what they did with this album.

02:20:30.900 --> 02:21:00.400
So let that be an inspiration to all the grind bands out there. Someday you too can not suck. Someday your songs can be a little bit more than a minute 30 of noise. You can, you can, you know. Yeah, a minute 30 is not really a grind to me. Quick thing. I'm only 30 seconds. No one here has mentioned yet Apex Predator. No, and I'm really bummed about that because that was on my original list.

02:21:00.900 --> 02:21:30.860
And it just it's a great fucking album, but it's a little stock compared to what I feel is on my list, which is you know, but for them is it though? It's no I mean for them. It's it's it's awesome. Yeah, I think their last two albums are some of their best but yeah, I just I know it. Yes. I don't really think I mean, they're I don't know what to call them anymore. It's certainly better than grind even though I know they're like the progenitor

02:21:31.200 --> 02:21:57.440
of grind, but yeah, anyway, number four. Number four. We mentioned, a couple people mentioned the side band. This is the, I don't know if it's a full band, but it's one of the guys, Enshine Singularity, which we have a connection to ex-Genesis. Yep. They do? Yes, because one of the guys is from Sweden. Is it Phil Collins or, oh, not that Genesis. I thought you said he was ex-Genesis.

02:22:00.880 --> 02:22:30.280
That would be Steve Hackett. That would be Steve Hackett. Falling flat on my face. Famous joke of the day. That was painful. But it was engineered to be lame. It actually succeeded in that. Mission accomplished. Alright, my number four, Gruesome Savage Land. Knew that was going to be on your list. The first time I heard this, I said Will. Will has to hear this. Unbelievable. Which we'll be seeing at Death Fest.

02:22:30.880 --> 02:23:00.720
Okay, yeah. Too bad you don't like them. Yeah, too bad it sucks for you this time. The lineup is pretty shitty, but it's not. It really isn't. I'm not talking bad about it. We're not talking bad about your nice best. Anyway. All right, number four, racking them up. Cattle decapitation, the Anthropocene extension. Yes. So that's four of those. So Bucke had them at six. I had them at five. Jay had them at four. It's cool that we, you know, wear their fault in front of us, you know? I had them at number 20. Yeah. What the hell, John? We could have had it. John.

02:23:00.900 --> 02:23:30.100
I could have had the podcast album. The metal trick. Yep. Still is the podcast album. Four out of five. Four out of five is not bad. Four out of five metal fans like it. I just haven't heard it. That's all. Number four, right? Yeah. Yeah, four. By me? Yeah, because he, wait. He didn't say anything. Yeah, cattle to caps. Yeah, he did cattle to caps. Now it's you. Oh, I'm, my, I'm not drunk or anything. I just got a little lost. My number four.

02:23:30.900 --> 02:24:00.260
is what I've been looking for in power metal since I got into Dream Evil and those bands. It's a little cheesy. The lyrics, I don't know if they're trying to be serious or not. I don't think about how power metal is sometimes. Glory Hammer Space 1992. Wow. Well, I can't give you too much shit. I like them, but... It is just the caricature of a caricature. It is. It really is. It is. And I can't wait to see them at Prong Power. It is.

02:24:00.880 --> 02:24:30.860
He's the lead super cheeseball power lead singer of ale storm oh my what really chain mail yep but you know what the other thing is what have I said on the podcast before that's the dream that's the paramount that I like the dream evil you know chasing the dragon the the all that stuff that's what I like they're in space for this album I'm not kidding they're defending Scotland from space yeah I told John last night and I neglected to tell you I picked up a

02:24:30.880 --> 02:25:00.440
A. Power Metal Band you ought to check out. They're called Judicator. Okay. I have said it here in the pod before that I have been looking to get back into Power Metal. There hasn't been anything really in years. Oh, there's... Write it down. Everyone loves them right now. Like I was saying about Power Metal. Remember a couple episodes ago I mentioned that Power Metal seems to have shifted to a lot of like your Sabaton and stuff like that. I like Power Metal for its cheesiness. Because it's fun. It's what I'm always thinking about. Like, you know,

02:25:00.900 --> 02:25:30.780
Hammerfall, Riders of the Storm. I fucking love that stuff. What I thought was odd is the picture in my mind of Three Inches of Blood, before I saw them live, I just thought they would be in the chain mail and all that stuff, and they were just dudes in jeans. Don't you talk about my Three Inches of Blood bad. No, no, no. It's a good thing. I assumed that they were going to be super cheesy. I have to ask, though, John, you laughed at that. Because they're really popular right now. When you said, you know, Power Metal Band, and they got this going, I knew.

02:25:30.880 --> 02:25:31.920
Exactly who it was.

02:25:32.160 --> 02:25:35.280
But give them credit, though, for...

02:25:35.540 --> 02:25:38.880
Oh, they're taking that part of the metal scene over right now.

02:25:38.900 --> 02:25:41.000
And they are returning back to what power metal was.

02:25:41.540 --> 02:25:42.940
Do you like the early Dream Theater?

02:25:43.220 --> 02:25:45.060
I mean, not Dream Theater, Dream Evil, and...

02:25:45.080 --> 02:25:45.780
Not a big power metal.

02:25:45.800 --> 02:25:45.980
Okay.

02:25:46.500 --> 02:25:47.960
I know I'm the only power metal voice here.

02:25:48.319 --> 02:25:49.360
You're the prog guy.

02:25:49.660 --> 02:25:51.040
I probably like the more...

02:25:51.360 --> 02:25:53.020
When it was called speed metal, I guess.

02:25:53.140 --> 02:25:53.240
Yeah.

02:25:53.380 --> 02:25:54.380
The early Halloween stuff.

02:25:54.780 --> 02:25:56.640
Yeah, I was going to ask you, do you like Halloween?

02:25:56.800 --> 02:25:57.200
Stuff like that.

02:25:57.340 --> 02:26:26.980
I like them, but I like the cheesy power metal. And those bands were all priest influenced anyways. Well, I guess thrash and priest kind of combination. I love good rock screams, cheesy lyrics. It's fun. If you like power metal, your guy's got a new Aventasia. Isn't he doing a new one? Which should be an honorable mention. It's on my list. The new Stradivarius album is awesome. I need to listen to them. I've always kind of written them off as being too melodic.

02:26:27.320 --> 02:26:56.060
I think I might be confusing them with Sonata Artica. So I want to listen to them. Did you listen to the new Stradivarius, John? Not yet, no. Are you a fan of them? A little bit. I like some of their stuff. Some of their earlier stuff I like. But I haven't listened to them too much. So now that John laughed me off the pod. You know, John's usually the quiet reserve guy. He just gave me the biggest laugh. Well, that video of him at the castle and the sword, and he's just so serious. And you know full well it's a parody.

02:26:57.100 --> 02:27:25.700
Well, you think it is. Look at Steel Panther. Fucking hate them. I actually hate everything about them. I love Steel Panther. Yes, and I fucking hate it every minute. Why? Is there too many boobs? No, because I went to see Priest and I got that shit singing about glory holes in three. It's funny, though. It's stupid. I have to say, the last album, I like it for what it is. That was my song of the year last year, like number two or three.

02:27:27.100 --> 02:27:56.860
They're spoofing hair metal. Yes. I know. That's what's brilliant about it. They don't have to spoof hair metal. It's spoofing itself every time they play. But hair metal, though, was hiding its lyrics under, you know, these guys just come out and fucking say it. I had to say the last album was almost too graphic for me. Like, it was like, I'm no prude, but at one point you're just like, really? Yeah. Hey, John, I fucking hate them, too. I think Steel Panther, I don't think they're funny. No. Which is the other thing. I just don't think they're funny.

02:27:57.120 --> 02:28:26.580
And I'm going to see Priest. I'm hoping they bring on a new cool band I haven't heard yet. Or somebody. And these guys are like, are you fucking kidding me? It's like when you want to go see Black Sabbath and they have Andrew C.K. as a DJ. Yeah. I was drinking beers out in the... Epic worst. That was horrendous. Put it this way. If you're going to do that, then why don't you just bring Spinal Tap back and then at least it's making fun of real metal, not that bullshit. Okay, so you're not a fan of Glory Hammer. No, no, I wouldn't say that.

02:28:26.660 --> 02:28:56.260
No, no, I didn't say I wasn't a fan. I just... I didn't realize until I started putting my list together, they're really popular right now. They're blowing up right now, big time. Big time. They only have two albums, I think, right? Yes, two. And they're blowing up. And remember the guy, like I told George, the guy from Aelstorms, the singer. Yeah. All right, my number four. I think that's where we are. That's where we are. I can't believe this one hasn't been on anybody's list yet. This is Alkaloid and the Malacuth Grimoire.

02:28:58.539 --> 02:29:26.620
Is that four out of five? That's four. Yep. I gotta get on the bandwagon. You fucked up that one. Oh, sure. I was the asshole for kettle decafitation. You're the asshole. Cheers, guys. Yes. Alright, number three. This is a George call on one of his like, I've got like five minutes and I've got three seven bands until I listen to.

02:29:26.680 --> 02:29:27.000
this week.

02:29:28.260 --> 02:29:30.240
And you're like, oh, quick, I'm writing, I'm writing.

02:29:30.520 --> 02:29:31.360
And it was the first one.

02:29:32.220 --> 02:29:33.320
That's all I can remember.

02:29:34.040 --> 02:29:34.720
I know who it is.

02:29:34.800 --> 02:29:35.440
I know who it is.

02:29:35.940 --> 02:29:36.660
I know who it is.

02:29:36.820 --> 02:29:39.480
Yeah, and man, I love this album.

02:29:39.600 --> 02:29:40.280
It's Amiensis.

02:29:40.420 --> 02:29:41.340
I think that's how you say it?

02:29:41.420 --> 02:29:42.340
I think it's Amiensis.

02:29:43.580 --> 02:29:43.900
Amiensis.

02:29:44.060 --> 02:29:45.500
Gentlemen, please let me take this.

02:29:46.979 --> 02:29:47.920
You want to take this?

02:29:48.880 --> 02:29:49.200
Amiensis.

02:29:49.440 --> 02:29:50.700
And it's the album Ascension.

02:29:51.120 --> 02:29:51.240
Yeah.

02:29:51.260 --> 02:29:51.820
Amiensis.

02:29:52.200 --> 02:29:52.280
Amiensis.

02:29:52.420 --> 02:29:54.220
And I think you have their first release.

02:29:54.380 --> 02:29:55.660
I saw in your band camp list.

02:29:55.700 --> 02:30:25.660
Yeah, I got a couple of them. And it's not just black. It's not atmosphere. It gets a lot of stuff. And they kind of... It's proggy. But they blend it all together. And she sounds like an early... What's your name? Christina Scabby or whatever from Lacuna Coel. Early years, she sounds like her a little bit. And it's good. I like it. It's cool stuff. Excellent. My number three, King Giant, Black Ocean Waves. I was waiting for that. That's a good album. I like it. I listened to it. It's a good album. Yeah, it is. I love those guys. Yeah, they're great guys. Very... Did they ever tell

02:30:25.680 --> 02:30:54.460
Why they thought the Kickstarter failed? For the vinyl? For the vinyl, yeah. Not enough people. Yeah, that's usually the reason they failed. It was a several thousand. I understand that, but you look, they had success on every other one. I don't know. I was bummed. I really wanted that beer-colored vinyl. Yeah, I know. That's what George always locked in on. It was a couple thousand dollars, that's why. It's hard to do that. Jay, have you ever heard of these guys? Let's say again. Have you ever heard King Giant? Yeah, and I checked them out because I think you will. And I like that record. I think it's great.

02:30:55.680 --> 02:31:25.280
I bought in on the failed crowdfunding thing, too, after George told me about it. The reason I failed is because I didn't contribute anything because I don't have a record player yet. There you go. My number three, a lot of people don't know these guys, but the people who do are really freaked out on them, like me. Van den Plaas, Chronicle of the Immortals, part two. And I think Andy, who's first, I forget his last name, I think he has one of the most musical,

02:31:25.740 --> 02:31:55.660
voices and metal. And they just write these big dramatic sweeping tunes. Kind of proggy, but not so that it's annoying. Just great stuff. And it really is well-deserving. They would be musical because they actually do that also, along with the metal. They've all been involved in Jesus Christ Superstar. But they do it, and I hate Andrew Lloyd Webber, but they do what they do, they do without the level of implied cheese that could be there. Their lyrics are so much better than the average. At least you didn't get laughed at for

02:31:55.700 --> 02:31:56.300
saying this one.

02:31:58.540 --> 02:31:58.960
What's that?

02:31:59.280 --> 02:32:01.340
I said, at least you didn't get laughed at for saying this one.

02:32:02.460 --> 02:32:03.140
John knows.

02:32:04.040 --> 02:32:06.900
Is it better to be laughed at or just be stared at?

02:32:06.940 --> 02:32:07.300
Yes.

02:32:08.199 --> 02:32:10.240
I've had about six stare downs already.

02:32:11.040 --> 02:32:13.480
So you just take your little laughing sorry sack.

02:32:13.800 --> 02:32:16.280
I want to take the laugh over the silence and then the...

02:32:16.560 --> 02:32:16.880
Okay.

02:32:17.420 --> 02:32:21.700
Jay, you know the beauty of that band is that it's the same five guys from the very beginning.

02:32:22.180 --> 02:32:24.940
Yeah, and they carry on and they make these little class starting records.

02:32:25.080 --> 02:32:54.340
You know they're not making any fucking money, but they're doing all they make great sounding records. I like the album. I just haven't had enough time to listen to it, but it's good. I would say this one or or Christo if you would listen to either of those two. But anyway, I love those guys and I'm really pleased as George could tell you I at first I was like, yeah, and then like the second lesson I was like cool and then the last listen I was like holy fucking shit. This is good. So they're growers. Yeah, it's definitely been growing on you. I really need to give it a lesson. It deserves to be right where it is on my list. Okay. Awesome. Puke number three.

02:32:55.080 --> 02:33:24.420
My Number 3. I'm going to be on my own here. In Twilight's Embrace, The Grim Muse. Really? Mm-hmm. I didn't laugh at you either. I know you didn't. That's the one that was on my own. You guys look at me like I just said, yeah, I just found out I have something. No. That was one of my, what I was listening to. That's the one that's got the guy from At The Gates singing a couple of the songs. Yep. Yeah, I thought that was a great album. Yeah, I got it for my buddy George. Hey. And my number 3.

02:33:25.779 --> 02:33:52.780
This was my number one album for a little while, but my number one and my number two knocked it out. So this is Mirkoor and Em. Nice. Yeah, I love this album. I listened to the first couple tracks. They called me. Yes. But then it really kind of, it didn't maintain after the first couple tracks. I, you know, the first, if you only, I'm guilty of this myself. If you only listen to the first song, you think you know what the album's like.

02:33:55.080 --> 02:34:24.100
It really changes a lot. Or at least it has a lot more variety. And I fucking love her clean vocals, honestly. You know, I mean, probably my least favorite thing is her harsh vocals. But the album overall is just so different than... It's original. It's different than all the other black metal out there, all the other metal in general. And I thrive on that sort of, you know, newness and uniqueness because of all the stuff that I hear that sounds the same over and over again.

02:34:24.440 --> 02:34:54.000
Boy, is she on Lightning Rod, too. Without even doing anything. Just because she doesn't have a penis, she has gotten a lot of shit. Yeah, I think so. But if she was in Symphonic Metal, she'd be one of the hottest girls around. But that comes back to what we've mentioned on the pod before. Jay, I think you and I were talking about this when we were playing Xbox one night. The Black Metal community, I think, still has a problem being accepting. Oh, you think? More than any other sub-genre.

02:34:54.460 --> 02:35:23.680
Yeah. It goes back to what we were talking to last week with Trevor, why there's so many one-man black metal bands. It's because they're all a bunch of misanthropes that hate everybody else. That's a very good point. It just makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? They're just like, no, this is my black metal. It must sound like Dark Throne, and fuck everything that doesn't sound like Dark Throne. Where was that album on your list? Was that on your list, John? That was on J's. That was on J's.

02:35:24.140 --> 02:35:26.100
And it was my 19.

02:35:26.859 --> 02:35:28.280
I need to definitely spend some time.

02:35:28.400 --> 02:35:30.300
And it doesn't hurt that she is good looking too.

02:35:30.900 --> 02:35:31.380
Doesn't hurt.

02:35:32.080 --> 02:35:33.480
The video is a little weirdo.

02:35:34.200 --> 02:35:35.760
And she sang in a crypt.

02:35:36.260 --> 02:35:36.960
That's pretty awesome.

02:35:37.580 --> 02:35:38.720
That's fucking metal, dude.

02:35:39.140 --> 02:35:39.420
Okay.

02:35:39.920 --> 02:35:41.000
Number two.

02:35:41.620 --> 02:35:42.200
Number dos.

02:35:43.400 --> 02:35:44.000
Number dos.

02:35:44.580 --> 02:35:45.080
Oh, the sun.

02:35:45.840 --> 02:35:46.780
Dark Dunes of Titan.

02:35:47.040 --> 02:35:47.240
Nice.

02:35:48.740 --> 02:35:53.660
Now I feel like I missed out because I do feel a real connection.

02:35:53.920 --> 02:35:56.540
for a possible boom boom.

02:35:56.580 --> 02:36:01.340
If you listen to this, this will probably be in your top five.

02:36:02.420 --> 02:36:10.880
But it's not what you're going to expect though, because it's got heavy instrumentation into a lot of parts, then it's got very Opethian-like parts.

02:36:11.200 --> 02:36:12.020
And you don't like that.

02:36:12.020 --> 02:36:15.500
There's actually in that fourth song, there's some tool-like moments with the bass and everything.

02:36:16.080 --> 02:36:19.200
You always complain about who cares about the bass. This album, the bass takes over.

02:36:19.670 --> 02:36:20.980
I mean, he kind of leads the way.

02:36:20.980 --> 02:36:22.180
I love that. Yes, awesome.

02:36:22.680 --> 02:36:52.640
The one thing that kind of kept me from getting into these guys at first, rather just to listen to them at all, was listener Greg actually told me. I mentioned that. He mentioned these guys. And he sent their last album right before this one came out. And both the last album and this one, the album art is fucking horrible. It's pretty fucking horrible artwork, I think. This one's not as bad, but the one... The 1M4 is a little weird. Both the album arts are...

02:36:52.660 --> 02:37:22.300
Chee Gojira. It just looks like... It looks like George... Think of George's musical talents applied to artwork. Applied to artwork. Yeah. It's like so much of the stuff on Bandcamp, like Bug is so fond of saying, that it's got some really kind of... Well, this is apparently some famous painter did the second one. That's funny. What? Well, if you consider what it's based on, it's based on that book, the novel by Ben Bova, then it makes a little more sense.

02:37:22.680 --> 02:37:27.840
I was telling you yesterday I fucking hate the first album cover I can't say the second one's like whatever

02:37:28.030 --> 02:37:52.640
yeah the second one's not as bad the first one I was like wow that's I think the first one makes you not like the second one more I think it's what it is oh it's just it's bad yeah I saw it on band game we guys were talking about it earlier so when I actually listened to the music I was like okay I'll ignore the album cover yeah now I feel like I really missed out what I've not done yet is get the first album so we've been talking about the cover art what's the actual first album I'll show you similar no it looks like a little

02:37:52.640 --> 02:38:21.740
It looks like a little person. It looks like a blue background. Let's see. Is the actual music on the first one? It's a little different. Songs are shorter, but it's similar. It's a lot of instrumentation. I think it's a little more aggressive. The second one is a little more prodding, a little more journey-like. You build up. There's a lot of ups and downs on the second one. Don't look at it as you missed out. Look at it as you've got something to discover now.

02:38:22.660 --> 02:38:52.540
Trust me, after this one, you're gonna... So, Oda's son is 3 out of 5? 2. 2. Well, 3 out of 5. I haven't heard it either, so... Right, right. You can send it to Spotify to me or something, will you? It's on Bandcamp. Send what? It's on Spotify yet. It's not Spotify. Bandcamp. I'll send it to you. Will, number 2. Yesterday Saints. Generation Vipers. There you go. I thought that was gonna be year 1 again. I thought that was gonna be year 1. Yep. I thought that was... Oh, man!

02:38:52.660 --> 02:38:54.360
Man! I will say...

02:38:54.360 --> 02:38:55.100
Albert, John, you guys.

02:38:55.200 --> 02:38:56.480
Let's text Matt right now.

02:38:56.880 --> 02:38:57.300
What's up?

02:38:58.440 --> 02:38:59.240
What'd you guys do to him?

02:38:59.320 --> 02:38:59.800
Why did he...

02:38:59.960 --> 02:39:00.460
I don't get it.

02:39:00.480 --> 02:39:06.020
I will say, I cannot believe nobody has mentioned my number one.

02:39:06.600 --> 02:39:06.660
Oh.

02:39:07.140 --> 02:39:07.500
Oh, yeah?

02:39:07.780 --> 02:39:07.900
Maybe.

02:39:08.360 --> 02:39:08.660
Maybe.

02:39:09.420 --> 02:39:10.160
I don't know.

02:39:10.400 --> 02:39:19.680
I am shocked that out of the other 120, 30 with all the elemental albums, this one has...

02:39:19.860 --> 02:39:21.600
My number one has not been mentioned once.

02:39:21.980 --> 02:39:51.400
All right, well. Might have been mentioned in vain. Well, I'm hoping it's my number two, but we'll see. Jay. This has probably my favorite song of the year on it. It's called The Skull, Amorphous Under the Red Cloud. Yeah. That's a good record. Easy number two. Yep, easy. No question. It fought for number one really hard. So has anybody not put that on? Who has? No, you didn't? Okay. All right. We're always one short. Buick, number two. Draconian.

02:39:52.040 --> 02:40:21.320
Nice. So that's three out of five? Yep. Yep. Yep. That's a good album. I think it's where I'm at right now. Where I'd like to listen to. I always have a weak spot for female vocals. And it kind of fits. Hey, my number two. Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls. Wow. There it is. Way up. I hope I wouldn't make anybody's list. George, that is not my number one. Yes! Yes! There you go! I didn't think it would be, but I was hoping.

02:40:22.540 --> 02:40:24.500
You're gonna hope I just have a complete flip-flop

02:40:24.760 --> 02:40:28.100
Well, I was trying to think of like anything else that really had not been mentioned

02:40:28.100 --> 02:40:29.880
Remember when you picked him up for barbecue remember?

02:40:30.960 --> 02:40:32.620
Oh, yeah, that's right. You were ragging on it

02:40:33.760 --> 02:40:34.480
Dude now

02:40:34.600 --> 02:40:39.320
What's funny now that I listen to the rest of the album speed of light is one of the better songs

02:40:39.540 --> 02:40:43.940
And I don't like that song. It was a great fucking album. I'm sorry. That is

02:40:44.510 --> 02:40:45.880
I haven't listened to it since the day I bought it

02:40:46.899 --> 02:40:47.260
Boring

02:40:48.120 --> 02:40:51.360
I love it. It was vine for number one obviously

02:40:53.300 --> 02:41:21.340
I love that sticking by your fucking job. John and I were talking about this in the car ride up here where it's like literally one of my favorite bands of all time. Yeah. Top five favorite bands of all time. But just because they're one of my favorite bands of all time does not mean it's getting on my list. I don't get why people aren't loving it. But Jay was wondering if it was going to be on my list. There it is, Jay. Jay, it's not on your list. You loved it, right? It would not be on Jay's. Jay, I thought you loved it. I am not crazy. I'll tell you this. It's not

02:41:21.360 --> 02:41:51.340
is interesting as all the stuff like that I put on my list but I think it is definitely one of the best post 2000 records they've made yeah yeah but you know in it but I will say this is long-winded in places there's no question about that yeah definitely yeah just some of the sections just go on too long so there's no question about that it needed an editor yeah I expect me for your decision though because you know I felt alone on brave new world at the time so yeah the brave new world's great yeah

02:41:51.360 --> 02:42:20.660
Great album. Okay, well we will go fill up and we'll be back with our number one. Number ones. You want to number two. Who is number one? I am seriously shocked. Not a single fucking person has mentioned what my number one is. Alright, so we are about to do our number one albums of the year. And I would say George's is a total mystery to me. But what are we drinking? I know what it is. We are drinking 1349 Blackout by Serling.

02:42:22.120 --> 02:42:26.980
This is a collaboration brew for the obviously for the band 1349 and they also

02:42:28.641 --> 02:42:31.560
Brewed this over in I think Norway

02:42:32.590 --> 02:42:33.040
Yeah, yeah

02:42:33.040 --> 02:42:34.620
Brewed through bones of

02:42:35.860 --> 02:42:36.840
Plague victims

02:42:37.370 --> 02:42:42.140
This is a black ale with some coffee in it. Cheers. It's really good. Cheers guys

02:42:43.240 --> 02:42:46.120
One more metal beer and Jay cheers to you

02:42:47.360 --> 02:42:47.820
All right

02:42:48.720 --> 02:42:50.120
John hit us with your number one

02:42:50.140 --> 02:43:20.060
I can't imagine what it is. This is going to be a shocker. And no, it's not death heaven. Ah, yeah. Will to run. Sleep at the edge of the earth. And that's all I'm going to say about it. You know enough. I've written them up. Done. Not a surprise. Not a surprise at all. Was there ever a chance of him... The only other band... I do like that Odisson a lot. Did Odisson even challenge him at all? For about a day. Okay. And you're like, no, you get back down. Then I woke up and was like, eh.

02:43:20.779 --> 02:43:50.000
Maybe it'll be two. That's a nice place. Do you think it influenced you a little bit because you interviewed the guy? Yeah, and I met him when he was with Immortals Bird. It was a great interview, too. Yeah, and he was a real nice guy. I mean, yeah. Because I know that influences me with, like, obviously with some of my number two and three are local bands, and they're friends of mine. Oh, if he was Dave Mustaine, I would have dropped them off the fucking list in a second. Speaking of which, what do you guys think of the new two Megadeth songs?

02:43:50.140 --> 02:44:19.460
They released. Not much. I like Jay. Meh. It's meh. I'll say it's better than the last album. It is definitely. It's not bad. It gives me, you know, I want to hear the rest of the album. Hearing it within the context of the rest of the album, it might not be too bad. It's certainly not going to be fucking rust in peace, but you know, it might be listenable. It's going to be another two good musicians brought in the band that won't be used, like the last few albums. Sadly. Probably.

02:44:20.140 --> 02:44:24.720
and you're just like well just kind of strum some notes over here like Michael J. Fox and

02:44:25.979 --> 02:44:50.100
Back to the Future. Did you see the thing on Blabbermouth where Mustaine was talking about Scott Weiland and he was like yeah you know before they were big I heard these guys and I said I want to bring them on tour with us Stone Temple Pilots that is. Bullshit. And he was all like yeah you know they were playing and their set just wasn't really working and so I told them hey can I can I give you some pointers and you know

02:44:50.120 --> 02:45:19.540
We moved their set list around and this and that. And then they took off. And I told Scott Weiland, I was like, you're going to have a lot of drugs and women and stuff thrown at you. And he's like, stay away from heroin. I should have told him to do more heroin because he did the opposite of what I told him. You know what? I was like, really, Dave? He wanted to have a lot of torts so Dave could score more heroin. I didn't realize it was all about you, Dave. On the behind the scenes of Megadeth, Dave was saying, yeah, I heard that if you want to be famous and become a rock star,

02:45:19.760 --> 02:45:20.580
You do heroin

02:45:20.760 --> 02:45:21.780
So I wanted to be a rock star

02:45:22.050 --> 02:45:22.740
So I did heroin

02:45:24.180 --> 02:45:24.900
What a dick

02:45:25.699 --> 02:45:26.760
That's basically what

02:45:27.420 --> 02:45:28.240
Literally what

02:45:28.610 --> 02:45:29.940
The guy from Nirvana did

02:45:30.440 --> 02:45:30.640
Yes

02:45:30.940 --> 02:45:32.340
It was his goal

02:45:32.340 --> 02:45:33.080
To be hooked on heroin

02:45:33.500 --> 02:45:34.200
I think it was

02:45:34.600 --> 02:45:34.760
Yeah

02:45:35.000 --> 02:45:36.120
I saw some weird documentary

02:45:36.210 --> 02:45:37.540
I couldn't even watch the whole thing

02:45:37.540 --> 02:45:37.800
I was like

02:45:37.820 --> 02:45:39.060
These people are retarded

02:45:39.620 --> 02:45:40.720
That's George's number one

02:45:40.940 --> 02:45:42.120
Okay so number one George

02:45:42.640 --> 02:45:43.420
Never mind

02:45:43.800 --> 02:45:43.980
Yeah

02:45:44.760 --> 02:45:45.040
Never mind

02:45:45.739 --> 02:45:46.620
Dookie dookie

02:45:47.160 --> 02:45:47.240
Yeah

02:45:48.100 --> 02:45:49.720
Will number one

02:45:49.740 --> 02:45:51.320
Clutch, Psychic Warfare.

02:45:51.470 --> 02:45:52.820
How is this not on A's list?

02:45:52.820 --> 02:45:55.140
It's not a lot of lists, but I don't think they're...

02:45:55.200 --> 02:45:55.280
I don't think they're...

02:45:55.280 --> 02:45:55.940
I don't think they're...

02:45:55.940 --> 02:46:04.340
I don't think they're

02:46:19.740 --> 02:46:48.760
Just say it, George. You know what it is. Oh, right. I forgot. Bellwitch. Four Phantoms. I loved it. I think it was the best record of the year. Nothing else came close for me. Yep. I think it's a piece of art. It's a piece of art from start to finish. And I just saw them again as mentioned that Monday. They were amazing. You either get it or you don't. Or you like it or you don't, I should say. It's not about intellect or anything like that. Good shit. Good stuff. Buke. The album that blew me away from the second I listened to it, I knew right away it was my album of the year, Will to Run. Really? Yep. I never would have guessed that. No way.

02:46:49.740 --> 02:47:17.300
It was. I just. Yep. Something special there. All right. Well. Cue the drum roll. Here we go. This is the Emmy. This is the Grammy. This is everything. My number one album of 2015. Has someone said it yet? No. Okay. New Bermuda. Death Heaven. Are you serious? I am not.

02:47:22.980 --> 02:47:49.700
I didn't know if it was going to work. I told everybody but you. This is to fuck with you and Neutrino. Fuck you both. You played that all. Really good buddy. That was perfect. I was waiting for that. Okay. My actual number one may not get me much

02:47:49.740 --> 02:47:50.280
More Love.

02:47:51.860 --> 02:47:53.720
But it certainly is going to get me more than that.

02:47:55.080 --> 02:47:59.760
My real number one is Swallow the Sun songs from the North 1, 2, and 3.

02:48:00.120 --> 02:48:00.240
Excellent.

02:48:00.720 --> 02:48:00.820
Wow.

02:48:01.060 --> 02:48:01.340
Nice.

02:48:01.760 --> 02:48:01.840
Yeah.

02:48:02.720 --> 02:48:04.420
Not only is it fucking amazing.

02:48:04.540 --> 02:48:06.840
I like that we were talking about that earlier when I got here.

02:48:06.940 --> 02:48:07.920
You didn't even let it onto anything.

02:48:07.920 --> 02:48:08.340
I did not.

02:48:08.410 --> 02:48:09.160
I was like, Mom.

02:48:10.140 --> 02:48:14.880
Not only is it fucking amazing, but my top two albums are five albums.

02:48:18.520 --> 02:48:48.480
Between that and Maiden, I get five albums for the price of two. Honestly, the more I listen to this, the more I'm fucking amazed. As I said earlier, I really want things that challenge what I know and things that I've already heard before. Honestly, I can't even think of another band that's done a triple album that wasn't a live album. In only three years. It hasn't been that long since the last album came out. I can't name another album that's a triple album.

02:48:48.540 --> 02:49:18.280
of new material. I don't know any. And the fact that each of these albums is broken out into a completely different style. The first album is Death Dune. And as I mentioned on earlier podcasts, when I listened to this album, I wasn't as impressed as I was with the second and third albums. But now I've been listening to it a lot more, and I really dig the first album. Second album's all acoustic, and it's actually probably my third favorite now. It's really cool for what it is. It's ballsy.

02:49:18.520 --> 02:49:48.280
It's ballsy to do a three albums. It's ballsy to do a whole album that's acoustic. But then there's the third album, which is Funeral Doom. This is a Death Doom band. That is what they're known for. And how many bands fucking take what they do and ratchet it up to something that's even fucking heavier? Not a lot of bands do. And if they do, it's because they're irrelevant and they're trying to feel relevant again. And I don't get that. This may go without saying, George, but one of the things you're not mentioning, too, really, is they're all good songs, too. I mean, it's not like there's interesting riffs in it, cool lyrics. There's that one.

02:50:17.400 --> 02:50:18.500
The Poem

02:50:18.979 --> 02:50:22.680
So there we go gentlemen. There's our list. Will to Run,

02:50:23.500 --> 02:50:25.180
Will to Run, Bellwitch,

02:50:26.420 --> 02:50:26.860
Clutch.

02:50:27.579 --> 02:50:29.020
You guys can't believe Clutch.

02:50:29.799 --> 02:50:33.140
No disrespect to Clutch, I have never viewed them as a metal band.

02:50:33.340 --> 02:50:34.760
What do you view them as a rock band?

02:50:34.920 --> 02:50:35.480
I would say.

02:50:36.500 --> 02:50:38.880
But I think they're a band that metalheads like.

02:50:39.260 --> 02:50:39.660
Yeah, certainly.

02:50:40.170 --> 02:50:41.100
Fuck you guys, man.

02:50:42.119 --> 02:50:45.740
But again, you're not wrong in saying that because we look at the lists.

02:50:46.540 --> 02:50:47.160
They're heavy enough.

02:50:47.520 --> 02:50:50.180
They're appearing on lists. Cheers, gentlemen. Yep.

02:50:53.060 --> 02:50:53.420
2015.

02:50:54.000 --> 02:50:54.320
2015.

02:50:55.699 --> 02:50:58.980
Before we wrap this up, well, there's a couple other things we got to do, but

02:50:59.200 --> 02:51:01.480
we're going to final remarks, everybody. We'll go around the table.

02:51:02.080 --> 02:51:06.060
Yeah, I want to know what we're looking forward to in 2016 real quick. Just a couple of things.

02:51:06.380 --> 02:51:08.240
Right now, a bath. I'm looking forward to that record.

02:51:10.020 --> 02:51:13.720
Myself. Hopefully, the follow-up to Worship Music will be out.

02:51:14.140 --> 02:51:14.220
Yep.

02:51:15.480 --> 02:51:16.300
Did you pre-order it?

02:51:17.120 --> 02:51:46.880
That's actually out next month. Is it? Yeah, or maybe February. Late January or February. Pre-order, it's usually within the next month. The Gojira will hopefully be out next year. That's right. Are they doing a new one? Yes, they are. I love Gojira. It's one of the first shows that John and I went to together. Or I should say, we went and saw each other there. Yeah, that's where we met. Hopefully to see how a full Megadeth album turns out with Adler on drums. Yeah. He'll be fine.

02:51:47.100 --> 02:52:16.100
I know he will. And the guitarists will be fine. They will be fine, yes. Going into 2016, like I mentioned earlier, I'm done with Doom right now, Funeral Doom. It's just... Burned out. Yeah, just burnt out on it. But those around, looking forward to next year. Cool. Jay, anything? Has it been confirmed, sorry to interrupt, has it been confirmed, Metallica, the follow-up to Death Magnetic, will not be out next year, right? No idea. Okay. Yeah, it's hard to say. I'm not looking forward to any new Metallica.

02:52:17.180 --> 02:52:46.660
2016 could be a bad year for you guys. Not for me because I don't care about Lemmy. But we could lose Lemmy next year. Not until he knocks off the rest of Motorhead. We could, you know, Tom Iommi. Tony. Sorry, Tony. Tom. Tony Iommi. Tom's his brother. Yeah, Tom's his brother. Tony Iommi. Well, if it's going to happen, it hopefully will not be. Yeah, we just spend it. $6,000 on Black Sabbath. I've got to give you guys before you leave.

02:52:47.840 --> 02:53:17.080
I do, unless you want me to just hold on to all of them. I'll take a ticket to Joe then. That's fine. Thanks. I will not be joining you guys for that. Yep. Quitter. I am excited for more podcasts here. Again, John, well, you guys have an open door 24-7. You guys are a part of this machine. Yep. Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to the new Anthrax. Looking forward to the new Voivod that's going to be coming out. I just heard a new Rotting

02:53:17.120 --> 02:53:47.080
Christ album or song rather and that's going to be coming out I think in a couple of months and that sounded pretty cool. Biggest thing I'm looking forward to in 2016 is being in the same damn room with Jay. Yes. Oh yeah, Death Fest, baby. And you know what, we'll work it out so that we can sit at that table at least once, you know, I'll stay long enough so that we can sit at the table and do a wrap up or something. Yeah. Yeah, I'm totally excited about that. A few more months. It'll be the highlight. Yep. All right, well, what about us? Yeah, what about these guys? Give them a

02:53:47.100 --> 02:54:17.080
Well, you just sort of didn't say anything, so I... Well, it's your show. Go ahead. Go, go. Do it. John? All right, me? No albums. Anything in the prog world coming out next year? Looking forward to Death Fest. Looking forward to Sabbath. You guys haven't even mentioned. And prog power, yeah. And prog power. Oh, well, that's... The show of shows, you guys. Face warning, baby. Yeah. I'm looking forward to that. I mean, albums, I just take them as they come. Yep. You know? Yeah. I think we all have a nice friendship built up again where we're...

02:54:17.100 --> 02:54:46.300
I'm sending so much music back and forth. That's why I'm not worried because I'm going to get, by the time I get home, I'll have like four or five different albums I got to check out. I already know what I need to get. Alkaloid. I need to check it out apparently. Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. Seeing the video, I'm excited for the Obscura next year. Yeah? Yeah, that too. It's weeks away. We mentioned earlier, but I can't wait for my buddies in gloom to drop their new album. It's going to be awesome. Will the new Cannibal Corpse be out next year? Are they on that every couple years? I mean, it seems like it's every,

02:54:47.120 --> 02:55:15.200
Like two or three years. Something new. Okay, boys. Well, Jay, anything you're looking forward to? The Bath record and also one of my new sort of obsession bands, Trollfest, will have a new record out probably this year, and I'm looking forward to that. And, you know, everything I can't think of. Bunch of cool bands we all love. I'm sure they're going to release some stuff. And we'll see about the Anthrax, too. Looking forward to that. Hope it's good. I have one more thing I'm looking forward to. Seeing Glory Hammer or Prog Power. Yeah. So they come on stage and you can be like, ha ha!

02:55:17.120 --> 02:55:47.060
Just laughing. Your biggest fans in Maryland right now. And I'm here. We're going to get pictures with them. Drink beers with them and everything. When I was putting together my list and I saw the picture of them that they use on Spotify. Them and the armor and stuff. I said, I'm really about to put these guys on my list. I will listen to them any day of the week over that steel crap or whatever their name is.

02:55:47.120 --> 02:56:15.760
I'll listen to them over Death Heaven, but you got me with that one. I did. I fucking got you. Where can you guys give them your information? Twitter? I'm whitecluster69 at Twitter. What am I, John X? John X, yeah. You'll see me on there somewhere. Whitecluster69. Whitecluster69. You know what that means, ladies? I was born a year before. Sounds so creepy. Creepy. It's yin and yang. Yeah.

02:56:17.120 --> 02:56:47.080

02:56:48.500 --> 02:57:06.380
We're about to leave you for the rest of 2015. We will see you again in 2016. But before we go, we are going to play a song for you. This is another song from my friend in Korea, Sung Soo Lee and his band, Hairy Big Button. This is the song, Man of Spirit. Enjoy.

02:57:18.739 --> 02:57:21.000
I realize

02:57:23.220 --> 02:57:25.900
Time has come

02:57:26.850 --> 02:57:28.900
We lose all

02:57:30.080 --> 02:57:31.120
Wasted

02:57:32.660 --> 02:57:34.400
True life

02:57:36.180 --> 02:57:37.620
Who cares

02:57:39.159 --> 02:57:41.360
Erase all

02:57:42.580 --> 02:57:44.400
You know

02:57:46.100 --> 02:57:47.840
We're wasted

02:57:49.000 --> 02:57:50.100
That's all of it

02:57:50.100 --> 02:58:08.700
With our belief, the truth will arise. We all know this is just beginning. We all know the end is coming.

02:58:21.880 --> 02:58:24.700
When darkness falls

02:58:26.810 --> 02:58:29.500
With love so long

02:58:30.060 --> 02:58:32.140
It's too late

02:58:33.120 --> 02:58:34.180
With forgotten

02:58:59.520 --> 02:59:03.040
I will close my eyes

02:59:03.060 --> 02:59:05.400
I will stay awake

02:59:06.600 --> 02:59:08.760
I will close my eyes

02:59:09.220 --> 02:59:12.580
Till the door of the freedom breaks

02:59:13.240 --> 02:59:15.520
I will close my eyes

02:59:16.240 --> 02:59:18.400
I will hold your hand

02:59:19.700 --> 02:59:21.340
I will close my eyes

02:59:21.620 --> 02:59:25.560
Till I let my last breath go

02:59:25.680 --> 02:59:26.660
Say

02:59:31.280 --> 02:59:33.040
I shall

02:59:33.040 --> 02:59:39.440
Stay awake! Stay awake! Stay!

02:59:40.680 --> 02:59:42.540
I'm sure!

02:59:43.960 --> 02:59:47.040
Low, stay awake!

02:59:49.420 --> 02:59:50.620
For your freedom!

03:00:03.200 --> 03:00:26.900
I will close my eyes I will stay awake I will close my eyes So much of freedom breaks I will close my eyes I will hold your hand I will close my eyes

03:00:26.920 --> 03:00:29.280
My last, let's go!
