You must listen.

00:00:31.500 --> 00:00:32.540
You must listen.

00:00:36.539 --> 00:00:38.740
Now, here is the podcast.

00:00:39.080 --> 00:00:40.520
Metal Heads Podcast Go.

00:00:41.260 --> 00:00:42.660
Hello and welcome to the Metal Heads Podcast.

00:00:42.900 --> 00:00:43.520
My name is George.

00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:44.660
This is Jay.

00:00:45.060 --> 00:00:45.600
This is John.

00:00:46.100 --> 00:00:46.520
This is Matt.

00:00:46.760 --> 00:00:47.660
This is Markisan.

00:00:48.160 --> 00:00:51.740
In this episode, we are joined once again by Tom Ballard of Allfather.

00:00:51.920 --> 00:00:52.640
Welcome back, Tom.

00:00:52.960 --> 00:00:53.580
Hey, how's it going?

00:00:53.600 --> 00:00:53.940
You all right?

00:00:54.200 --> 00:00:54.820
Yeah, pretty good.

00:00:55.200 --> 00:01:23.660
We're supposed to get hammered with some weather today, but we'll see. I think we're supposed to get a light flutter in the snow over the next day or two, but nothing serious, so we're all right. We're looking at ice here, so that ought to be fun. I think it's about 65 degrees here. Shut up, James. So you may have noticed that Will is not here, and that Markassan is. Will was not able to make it today because he had something going on last minute,

00:01:25.020 --> 00:01:54.480
Markassan was kind enough to step up and join us. So thank you, Markassan. Hey, thanks for having me. So two years after blessing the earth with fire, you have returned, bringing ruin and all will be desolation. As I'm sure you know by now, you've made a few of our year-end lists. Yeah, thanks for that. Really appreciate those that put it on the list. The rest of you, no thanks. No, it deserves to be on the list. Great album.

00:01:55.000 --> 00:01:55.580
Yeah, definitely.

00:01:56.100 --> 00:01:58.000
It's not, I appreciate it.

00:01:58.020 --> 00:02:04.480
I managed to listen through most of your end of year list show across about three different sittings, but I got through it.

00:02:05.200 --> 00:02:05.460
Yeah.

00:02:05.900 --> 00:02:09.179
The length of the show has been a topic of debate lately.

00:02:11.720 --> 00:02:14.320
No, I was just saying, yeah, thanks for all your kind words.

00:02:14.380 --> 00:02:15.760
It was really appreciated.

00:02:16.440 --> 00:02:17.060
Yeah, no problem.

00:02:18.000 --> 00:02:20.940
The most important question of the day, how's that beard doing?

00:02:22.380 --> 00:02:23.220
Yeah, it's all right.

00:02:23.320 --> 00:02:51.940
I've got some really fancy stuff in the fridge, but I'm away next weekend for my other half's birthday and I'm saving it for that. So this is just some bog standard IPA from the supermarket. So Thornbridge Jaipur IPA, which is 5.9, which is very, very nice. Anybody else drink at anything? To be honest with you, and I'm not trying to embarrass any of us, but were you asking him about his beard or his beer? I was, but I just went with it.

00:02:54.239 --> 00:03:23.000
Well, now we have a second question. Sorry, I thought you said beer. The beer is also fine. It's well-oiled today, and it looked after very well, thank you. It looks fabulous. Yes, but it's a good transition into the beer. I know somebody else is drinking something. Yeah, I have Testermite from Hot Butcher, which is an Imperial Stout, 11.5% from right here in Illinois. Smooth.

00:03:24.720 --> 00:03:52.760
And some nice drinkware you got there too. Yeah, Metalhead's glassware courtesy of Will. Skull, Will. Yeah. Anybody else? Yeah, I'm drinking something called Hakka. It's from Commonwealth Brewing from Virginia Beach. It's a double IPA. They make a lot of good stuff in this area. Well, you know, I'll just say this. I'm drinking water from a Slayer cup, as is my want. So it turned into blood?

00:03:55.879 --> 00:04:23.280
I had a killer stout last night and a couple other things, but the one worth mentioning was called So Happens It's Tuesday. Oh, from the brewery. Yeah, from the brewery. That was great. And this was a special edition with coffee added. Nice. Nice. Except in a Dirty Bastard from Founders. Nice. Unfortunately, I am drinking a Starbucks iced cold brew. So anyway, moving on back to the interview.

00:04:25.660 --> 00:04:53.300
So personally, and I don't think I was the only one, I was completely blown away by the new album. And I wanted to say that the riffs are pretty sick. The guitar on the album brought to mind for me, and I don't know that anybody else agrees with me, but the latest Cobalt album, have you heard that? No, I don't think I had. I don't think any of us had, I don't think. That doesn't surprise me. It's not really the

00:04:53.340 --> 00:05:22.960
the same style, it's more of a black metal, but the guitars in the riffs on both their album and your album are just like these massive, amazing sounding riffs. And that was like what drew me when I first listened to your new album was like, oh man, these riffs. I have to add a compliment in there. Sorry, Tom, I don't mean to cut you off. But I just want to say that the new album is the closest you can get to a modernized version of Black Sabbath on riffs.

00:05:23.340 --> 00:05:53.300
without slipping into some kind of follow the leader thing. It's so wonderfully rooted in... Yeah, I mean, it's a riff bomb of a record. That's the word I keep using for it. It's a riff bomb. Well, I appreciate that. Thank you. I think the way we generally approach our songwriting is obviously riff based. So generally our bass player, Andrew, comes up with probably about

00:05:53.340 --> 00:06:23.240
80 odd percent of the riffs that we have. He'll sit at home and plug his guitar in, usually not quite chinged, bang out a load of riffs, send them over to Alan or other guitarists. Me, we'll have a chat about what we think is good and what we don't think is good. Alan then takes it and plays it on a proper guitar. And then we take them into the studio and start workshopping them from there.

00:06:24.139 --> 00:06:53.080
But it's always been based around parts of songs and each part is generally driven by one or two riffs. So that's what we've always done. But this time around, in terms of recording, we knew we needed those guitars to be massive, as big as we could get them. And actually, we ended up going back into the studio adding more guitars because we felt that it wasn't quite enough.

00:06:54.340 --> 00:07:22.960
So I went back with a new pedal and put a whole, at least one more layer of guitars down, if not two. And that, I think, gave us what we needed to make it sound the way it does now. That massive wall of guitars without, hopefully anyway, without those guitars getting muddied and lost in just walls of sound. So I think we were over the moon about how it finally,

00:07:23.340 --> 00:07:52.220
How about finally turned out guitar wise? It's a wall of guitars to be sure. Definitely massive. I have a question that has been burning ever since I first heard the record and I want to know and first of all how you pronounce the last track Lampedusa. Lampedusa yeah. Is that based on some old traditional song or something? I probably could have done some research. No it's so Lampedusa is an island in the Mediterranean.

00:07:53.320 --> 00:08:21.820
And it's one of the central points in terms of refugees coming from the Middle East and Northern Africa and over in Europe a few years ago when we were writing the song and still really there's a refugee crisis and our country and other countries in Europe's decisions around deciding not to help people that are crossing. The idea of it, the more dangerous it is for them, the more of a deterrent it is for them.

00:08:21.880 --> 00:08:51.580
And the song's really about that. But the riff itself, in terms of, I suppose, the folky start at the beginning, was a riff that Andrew wrote probably before we recorded Bless. We had our first show coming up, and he'd come up with a couple of intros, because our first show, we played an intro. We'd never done it since. And that first riff was one that came up, and we decided it was far too good for an intro. We started writing it.

00:08:52.519 --> 00:09:21.860
Again, before "Blessed" we ran out of time and focused on the songs that we recorded for that album instead. But we always wanted that bit to be a bit different and the riff itself just sort of seemed to work well with that kind of folky vocal at the beginning. And actually that first chorus bit that I sing, well, "Bello", was my warm up lines for whenever I started

00:09:21.880 --> 00:09:51.860
I would go into a toilet or sit in the car or something like that half hour before the show and start quietly singing that and then build up to it louder and louder just to warm my throat up so yeah it's not a traditional song it's something we wrote and Andrew came up with the riff and the harmony for it and we'd always wanted to record it and it took a long time to work it through all the different parts but

00:09:52.699 --> 00:10:21.700
Again, we were really, really pleased with how it came out. I think it's one of our only songs that we were a bit self-indulgent on. I'd say the rest of the album, the rest of our songs, really, we edit it and try and cut all the fat from it as much as we can. So nothing hangs about too long. We're always moving on to the next part, finding out what's next round the corner. But for that, we sort of decided, let's just, it's such a good riff, let's play it,

00:10:21.740 --> 00:10:51.640
Let's be self-indulgent with it. Which is why it ends up about 12 minutes long. Yeah, but it's a great ending song. It really harkens back to some of a lot of my favorite metal records in the 80s and that kind of thing that, you know, where they would end on something that had a variety of epic to it. A call of the Tulu. Yeah, or even, you know, The Eagle Is Landed by Saxon or The Way Maiden used to end their records. And it, I don't know, it's just this huge monstrous hulk of a thing.

00:10:51.740 --> 00:11:21.700
and it has such a sort of strangely rooted in the past sound that it's great. Anyway, that's cool to hear your story too about it. I had no idea that those lyrics were related. Yeah, no, it was, I think we did the same one on Bless. We ended with an epic song and I think what we wanted to do on both records is pace them in a way and make sure it works together. All those songs work together and you get an experience. It sounds a bit poncy, I know, but you get an experience of the album as

00:11:21.740 --> 00:11:51.500
as a whole. So you can pick some songs out of it, but if that feels right. You start with quite a big song, there's some faster songs in it in the middle, there's another slow one. We've always wanted to end with something that's a bit of a spectacle. So, you know, you can't have a song after that just wouldn't work. So that was the intention.

00:11:51.740 --> 00:12:17.060
Well, Tom, you mentioned that song was about the refugee crisis in Europe. But you do what you guys do a lot of songs. All your songs really about fighting fascism, anti-immigration policies, political injustices, social injustices. When you guys started the band, did you want to speak out on current events? Is that something that you knew that you wanted to focus on from the beginning?

00:12:18.600 --> 00:12:48.300
Not all of them are, but I would say a lot of them are. There's a couple, certainly not the new one, that aren't necessarily about anything like that. They're more emotional. But in general, yeah. When me and Andrew started, we agreed we wanted a band. We agreed that we didn't really necessarily want to have a genre band. We wanted to just be a metal band and see what happened. We agreed that we should enjoy ourselves.

00:12:48.620 --> 00:13:18.440
as much as we can. Not sure how much we treat ourselves sometimes, but generally. And then we started writing some songs. And actually the first song we wrote is our song Blood Red Sunset, which is actually about a fire that happened at a local park around here back in the 1900s. But I think quite quickly, both of us decided that we wanted to use the band to say something a little bit more. And certainly from my point of view,

00:13:18.600 --> 00:13:48.580
Some of my favourite bands, probably more hardcore bands than metal bands, some of my favourite bands are those that do say something with their lyrics and do say something with the songs they write. And if I'm at a show, I love going to shows and I love singing along to bands, you know, I like to know the lyrics as a vocalist. And if I'm singing along with something that I agree with and feel quite passionately about, it makes...

00:13:48.600 --> 00:14:18.580
that fed into what we wanted to do with at least some of our songs to make sure that locally and lyrically there was a passion behind them rather than sort of abstract stuff. And that being said, there's also some songs that we tell some stories in. Sometimes we mix those things up. We don't necessarily, certainly at shows, use it as a soapbox or a soapbox.

00:14:18.620 --> 00:14:48.580
or anything like that we try to most of the sense let the music and the lyrics do the story and we can talk we will talk openly about what those songs are about and ultimately like we want to work a band that we want to be the band that was wrote fun songs and if you can have and I think we've worked out a way where you can have serious lyrical content but still put together that you can have a band you can sing along to at the same time

00:14:49.480 --> 00:15:18.560
So it's just trying to mix all those things up for us. But I think that's why we ended up deciding we wanted to do it in that way because certainly for me, I think I can perform better if I'm shouting about stuff that I feel strongly about rather than just generic stuff. If you come here or somehow I make it there again, I haven't been in a while, I promise you I'll sing along with instead of burning bridges and breaking citadels, we should be burning

00:15:18.600 --> 00:15:48.560
I love that and that that phrase went through my head so many times after I listened to your record this year at any given point that walked around with me so yeah I mean that that that's a classic example that for us brings together this always brings together all the best parts of being in the band because lyrically it's it's about what's happening in the UK at the moment and the actual just the way the song

00:15:48.580 --> 00:16:18.000
It's so much fun to play. When we wrote it, we had a round back again before Bless Andrew put together and I played it to our back then, to our then bassist and he was like, no, I can't play that, it's too fast. So it got, he didn't last long, but it got stuck away. And I found it again when we were writing Desolation. I begged, begged,

00:16:23.060 --> 00:16:48.560
"Can we just try this?" And Al listened to it and went, "Well, the beginning sounds like a fire, the end sounds like a sepulture." And I said, "Exactly what's wrong with that?" And we got it in the studio and we sort of said, "Well, let's recognise the fact it sounds like a bit of a sepulture." And just go with it and just make it as ridiculous as we could in terms of

00:16:50.060 --> 00:17:18.360
Let's just feed into that. Let's go with that. And I think we wrote it in about, I don't know, about two and a half hours. And when we were chugging the last bit, everyone just had smiles on their faces. And we're like, yeah, this works really well. So I know you mentioned that you layered on more guitars this time. Was there anything else different about the recording process this time around? Drum, well, we took longer. We had longer. Drum wise.

00:17:20.360 --> 00:17:45.580
So our guitarist, Al, worked with Jason Fry at Century Audio Studios. And drum-wise, Al had his head that he wanted them to sound the Chaos AD drum sounds and the Nirvana in utero drum sounds.

00:18:05.100 --> 00:18:11.460
I think getting that sound right

00:18:16.600 --> 00:18:46.560
I think there's a bit within when Black Triangle kicks in right at the beginning of the place just sort of goes and just trying to get that right was a focus as well so yeah I think Al knew what he wanted it to sound like and Al spent the time and worked with Jason and the rest of it like sounding that way we wanted it to be sound bigger and thicker than Bless the Earth of Fire

00:18:50.340 --> 00:19:12.820
Yeah, I think we managed that as well. Cool. We're still getting some glitch and we're just going to have to work around it, I guess. I'm not sure. I don't know what it is, but yeah. Anyway, so am I correct in my understanding that you have a new drummer since recording the album? We do. Yeah. So Kieran,

00:19:16.440 --> 00:19:40.680
Kieran decided once the album was recorded that he wasn't really, he wanted to do that, but he wasn't that keen on carrying on. So Aaron's been drumming with us now since March time, about March time. And we haven't written anything yet. I know Andrew's been working on some demos, but we've played a few shows.

00:19:43.580 --> 00:20:13.000
Yes, all right. Yes, come on. Excellent. So I guess an important question then is based on just your profile. Does he have a beard? He does. Yes. So Joe. Sorry, carry on. I was gonna say you see the only one that still doesn't have a beard, Joe. Joe's the still the only one. Now and again, he has a little chin strap thing. But he did. Yeah, he did once start to grow it.

00:20:13.040 --> 00:20:43.020
And it looked alright, but he's either half didn't like it. So he shaved it off again. So Joe's like the one guy in the band that doesn't have the tattoos? He doesn't have tattoos. He doesn't have the beard. And I think we've got to a point now that there always has to be one of us without a beard. Otherwise, it's not that right. You're going to have to change the motto. It'll be like, beards, chin straps, metal, fuck you. Well, we're actually saying we were like, we were trying out

00:20:43.060 --> 00:21:13.020
a drummer who didn't have a beard at all and we had a we did have a slightly serious conversation about whether we'd have to change the uh change the motto uh and that was at a point where we were just we just uh signed off all the artwork for our um for the t-shirts that went out with the album with without on the back and we were like oh can we can we carry on if only three of us have got beards but uh that worked out oh wait there's only two sorry no majority yeah but the irony with the zz top being that the guy

00:21:13.060 --> 00:21:17.240
without the beard his last name is beard yeah yeah it's always been the weirdest thing

00:21:19.100 --> 00:21:23.860
can i just say that that is single-handedly the best thing that i read on band camp and i read a lot

00:21:23.860 --> 00:21:29.300
of stuff on band camp but beards metal fuck you i mean i remember the first time you were on the podcast

00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:34.680
talking that stuck with me that entire time i mean it was just immediately burned in my brain like

00:21:35.120 --> 00:21:41.020
that's amazing we're trying to come up with like this bio and we'll read

00:21:43.120 --> 00:22:10.100
like multi-job dimensional death tech and just nonsense and we were like how do we avoid this and again Andrew who's a creative genius generally just sent over what do you think about this and we were like yeah perfect let's go with that and I enjoy when you send out your messages on Bandcamp and I believe it's like what is it lovely bastards or something to that effect and I'm just like yes

00:22:12.780 --> 00:22:36.180
It's come a decent greeting for everyone. It's all inclusive. No one's left out. It just keeps with the general vibe of we try and, certainly from a social media point of view, try and take a slightly lighthearted approach to most of it. We don't take ourselves necessarily too seriously.

00:22:42.380 --> 00:23:10.920
The question I really wanted to ask you guys, you know, you do send out a lot of messages on social media. I think we all get them. And immediately when I see that, I'm like, I know exactly who this is. You guys are a big DIY band. I think you do a lot of stuff yourself, and it seems to be a good kind of foundation for you. Do you see yourself continuing down that path? Or as if, you know, the band gets a little bigger, more successful, you know,

00:23:11.040 --> 00:23:39.260
Do you think that label support at some point would be something you would consider? I mean, it seems like the DIY is working really well for you right now. It does in a number of ways. We sold a good chunk of stuff for the new album. We sold a decent number of records, CDs, decent number of shirts. You know, to some extent, we've probably paid for the next album. Wait, was there a vinyl of the new one? No.

00:23:41.060 --> 00:23:42.220
me, Jay. I'll get on to that.

00:23:45.240 --> 00:23:46.460
Yeah, I'm sticking to the same thing.

00:23:47.560 --> 00:24:11.000
What we've been able to do pretty much since Bless came out is run the band without us having to put our hands in our pockets. So the rule is we split practice. We pay for our own travel costs to get to shows. But every penny that's generally made from the band through the sales or through the

00:24:11.040 --> 00:24:41.000
goes in the bank. Generally that way we've been able to pay for merchandise, recording the new album, the PR around it without, I think we've been putting about 100 quid between us into the pot for desolation, but everything else was paid for by our own sales. And I'm able to, with the help of Andrew, from a design point of view and some support from

00:24:41.040 --> 00:25:10.860
is to be able to do all the distribution stuff. So I'm able to get the CDs printed up. I'm able to get the T-shirts printed up. I know where everything's going. I know who's ordering what. And I can generally handle that. And it's been, it's felt like a real achievement to be able to do that ourselves. We were actually on a label for Bless, but the deal, the deal as it were,

00:25:11.160 --> 00:25:40.740
The things that that label was supposed to do for us, they didn't do. Not really a deal, is it? Well, no, we cancelled the... They didn't have to do a lot either. We cancelled that contract actually the day before the album came out. So we had to do a load of that ourselves. We did think about label this time round. The time it takes to do that, in essence, we've got to wait for everything to be recorded.

00:25:40.800 --> 00:26:10.760
and mastered because we want a label to hear the best that we've got by the time that's done we can spend another three months trying to go out to labels um and we felt that actually the things we want to be able to achieve we can we can do ourselves and we did the things that we don't get from a label uh i would guess is the ability to do stuff like vinyl um because uh the outlay to do that the cost of doing that with an album

00:26:10.820 --> 00:26:40.060
that we didn't know what would sell. Felt like a rash decision for us. It would be lovely to have a nice big 12-inch vinyl with artwork on the front. But if we've got another 50 of those left over because we only sold 10 and it cost us thousands of pounds to do, then it makes no sense. So that's one thing that we weren't able to do. And the other is I don't think we quite probably get the same exposure that we do for bands on labels.

00:26:40.800 --> 00:27:10.760
So we've had to work really hard ourselves through social media, but the PR campaign for Desolation was done with Curtis from Do Our PR Again. I think we did the best that we could, but I think there's still a difference between a DIY band trying to do it and a band that's on an established label and the access that that gets you. So to answer your question, next time round, we might think about looking for a

00:27:14.700 --> 00:27:40.540
We know we can do it ourselves. It's whether we want to do something different with the next one and achieve something different with the next one. Have any of them looked for you? I mean, I feel like anybody, some, any band rep trolling band camp would come across your stuff and it wouldn't surprise me if people had reached out to you. They have not. Once again, proving that the record industry are a bunch of dumbasses. Yeah.

00:27:40.800 --> 00:28:10.740
I suspect a label would probably want from us some commitment for touring. And because we've all got all got jobs, two of us have got families, one of us have got a family of dogs, actually practically trying to try to tour and support an album would would be difficult for us. So I could imagine that a converse, you know, there was some some difficult conversations with the label if they were interested in this, because we couldn't do so.

00:28:10.780 --> 00:28:40.480
Some of the things that a traditional band would do quite as easily, maybe. Yeah. So are you going to come to America at any point and play? We can't even get shows in bloody London, let alone in America. So I was on another part with Curtis and Matt Baker and I met in the Jetson. We're talking about how we use social media and what it's done for us. For all the advantages that it's given us, one of the things I haven't been able to do with it, we haven't been able to do with it very well is,

00:28:42.080 --> 00:29:10.760
to be able to build our name up with promoters and get decent shows. So we still struggle quite a bit to get decent shows. I can guarantee you, I think I speak very easily on this, there is one place you can play in the US and you would have no problems booking that show. And that would be Atlas Brew Works where it has its affiliation. And I'm sure you've

00:29:10.780 --> 00:29:14.160
have gathered that from talking with Will. I know he's said he's talked with you in the past.

00:29:14.940 --> 00:29:17.540
And he's very disappointed that he was not here to talk to you.

00:29:17.640 --> 00:29:18.380
Yes, he is.

00:29:20.000 --> 00:29:21.160
Yeah, he's unavoidable.

00:29:22.200 --> 00:29:22.760
Yeah, it's a shame.

00:29:23.230 --> 00:29:27.640
I think he said, he told you guys that when he landed in London just before Christmas,

00:29:28.960 --> 00:29:30.680
he said, oh, do you fancy me up for a beer?

00:29:30.730 --> 00:29:36.280
And I'm like, well, I literally had just walked off stage from our last show.

00:29:37.330 --> 00:29:40.360
And, you know, a couple of hours either way and he might be there to make it.

00:29:40.660 --> 00:30:07.120
I didn't get a chance to meet up with them unfortunately but yeah I mean we'd love to play more shows anyway and there's always the dream of us coming from a show but practically it probably if we did it probably wouldn't be with all the bands it would be we'd have to find some other way to do it because I know a couple of us would struggle with that sort of commitment but it's always nice to think maybe one day we would.

00:30:08.980 --> 00:30:38.940
I saw that you guys are actually going to be playing a show in February called Riffs Against Racism, which is going to raise money for the campaign against racism and fascism. So as a brown man, first, thank you for doing that. But also, we talked about how important it is for you to talk about social issues. But how did you guys get involved in that show? How did that come about? So the promoter that puts it on, one of the promoters that we are, we do, we do.

00:30:38.960 --> 00:31:06.960
We have managed to engage with South London Scum. We played one of their shows last year. We brought a couple of their bands down to our practice room last summer, might have been the summer before, Calligram and another band. I can't quite remember their name at the moment. We did a little show in a practice room, size of your front room. Got to know them there, played the last year and they asked us to come back.

00:31:09.560 --> 00:31:37.160
I'm not quite sure how we got to this point but the logo they've used is our logo it's on one of our patches like the horns smashing the so we yeah we've played with them before and they asked us to play that so I'm really looking forward to that some other good bands on there Dawn Raider playing and again Calligram who are apart from London they're they're a really good band good friends of ours so looking forward to that.

00:31:37.900 --> 00:31:39.000
Is that Kilogram?

00:31:41.420 --> 00:31:44.960
C-I-L-L-I-G-R-A-M

00:31:45.260 --> 00:31:46.260
Okay, I'll look it up

00:31:47.080 --> 00:31:51.620
Well, how is the scene? You said it's hard for you to get shows even in London

00:31:51.800 --> 00:31:54.460
What's the scene like? Why is it so difficult for you, Tom?

00:31:55.240 --> 00:31:56.320
So we are

00:31:58.480 --> 00:32:02.560
We're not in London. We're about 40 miles outside of London in Kent

00:32:03.680 --> 00:32:04.640
And in our

00:32:05.320 --> 00:32:06.640
hometown here, there is

00:32:06.660 --> 00:32:36.380
pretty much zero venues for us to play. And not very many bands. And no, unfortunately, no real scene around here. So for us, we have to rely on getting shows down the road in nearest city, which is Canterbury, which we do now and again, all vying for a place in London. And you can imagine that although there's a massive scene in London, there's also a huge amount of bands in London.

00:32:37.160 --> 00:33:06.340
And a lot of them live in London and spend their time in London. And I think what we struggle with is, again, the social media stuff's really one way of building connections and engagements with people. But another way is to get out to loads of shows and talk to people and people see your face. And again, we struggle to do that because of jobs and families and that. We can't spend all weekend at venues and things like that. So I think that's a element of it. But overall,

00:33:06.660 --> 00:33:36.620
the UK music is a fantastic heavy music scene so many bands that are doing new and interesting things and yeah loads of stuff going on but it's just it's just trying to tap into that in the right way for us which which we need to get better at you know how sometimes you mishear lyrics and songs yeah is it the burning flags one is that where you're going no I was listening to jackals night the other day and I swear you were

00:33:36.640 --> 00:34:05.940
I was singing "It's the Night of the Jag-offs". And I know that's not what you're saying, but if you try to hear it, you can hear that. And I just thought that was pretty funny. I had a message from someone once that said, I think in one of our previous songs, the Bloody Noose, there was a part in that and they messaged me, "Are you really singing about a toasted cheese sandwich?" And I was like, "What?!" And then I started listening to it and I can't remember which minute there's that I listened to it and I was like,

00:34:06.620 --> 00:34:36.600
I think I am now. Is that what I did think? Because it really sounded like it all of a sudden. So... You should change the lyrics the next time you play that live. Yeah. And see if anyone else catches that. And see if it might produce a sandwich. Maybe one of the waitresses will bring it in. But the Jack was, again, one of the fun songs to play. And I remember having a bit of a row with Al about the chorus. He was like, it sounds like...

00:34:36.639 --> 00:34:37.760
I thought it sounded too much like, uh,

00:34:38.520 --> 00:34:39.580
you should die with your boots on.

00:34:39.639 --> 00:34:41.540
I think it was, uh, Iron Maiden.

00:34:41.820 --> 00:34:43.520
And I was like, no, no, it doesn't.

00:34:43.520 --> 00:34:44.980
And we went back and forth for ages and I was like,

00:34:45.159 --> 00:34:46.040
sorry, I'm going to carry on.

00:34:46.379 --> 00:34:47.120
I'm not changing it now.

00:34:47.280 --> 00:34:49.540
And, um, uh, but yeah, it's a really,

00:34:49.740 --> 00:34:50.780
a really fun song to play.

00:34:50.860 --> 00:34:52.580
And I like, I like doing the scream at the beginning.

00:34:53.119 --> 00:34:56.240
So, um, I, uh, when we do it live,

00:34:56.480 --> 00:34:58.140
it goes on for about three times as long.

00:34:58.660 --> 00:35:02.060
Um, but, uh, I wasn't allowed to do that on the record

00:35:02.320 --> 00:35:03.040
because I've said there was,

00:35:03.140 --> 00:35:04.980
there was too much of too many long screens.

00:35:05.100 --> 00:35:05.920
I had to do a short one.

00:35:07.660 --> 00:35:35.680
Is there a track on... A little sheet on the wall. We're at six long screams here, man. Come on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I said, can I do another one? No. Make it short, please. All right. Is there a track on All Will Be Desolation that you enjoy singing the most, Tom? So, lyrically, I suppose, as I say,

00:35:36.320 --> 00:36:04.540
is the most fun. Lyrically, Lord Betrayer, which comes after Citadels. I really enjoy it because it's quite... So Andrew sold it. So Andrew wrote the lyrics for it and he sold it to me. I think he said a few years ago, me and him are big friends of the singer Nick Cave. Nick Cave's son, who I think is either late teenager in his early 20s.

00:36:06.300 --> 00:36:36.280
had died, had fallen off a whiff down in, and Andrew said that he read it and was obviously, you know, he's got three young sons and suddenly hit him about how awful it would be to lose them. And that's where that song came from. It's about that and it's about the impact of something like that has on, in the song, it's about, you know, a faith, sort of a Christian faith. Neither of us are Christians though, we're both atheists, but it

00:36:36.300 --> 00:37:05.080
I just shaped your faith fundamentally. So I knew it meant something. I knew it was quite important to him. And that means that meant when I sung it, you try and channel that. Plus it was the way some of the screams punctuate the phrasing of it. I worked really hard on as well.

00:37:06.300 --> 00:37:35.540
some of the first times that I was able to do the really high stuff, like the high-end vocals. And that was the song I sort of practiced those on and got good on that I then used across other songs. So I think that for me brings everything together. But I really do enjoy doing the first screams of By Famine and By Plague as well. I always really enjoy doing that. But altogether, I think it's probably Lord Betrayal. We always play it live as well.

00:37:40.900 --> 00:38:05.520
So good. You talked about you have a song about what's happening in England now with Brexit and everything. I just wondered how you feel about that current situation and the fact that the United Kingdom doesn't have a plan to actually break up with the European Union. I think ultimately it's incredibly frustrating because it's been on the cards since day one.

00:38:05.600 --> 00:38:34.500
I'm disappointed that we decided to vote in that way. The vote itself was very, very close. You know, I think 52, 48 percent. Pretty much everything that was said in terms of the Leave campaign has been proved wrong, completely undermined. And now it's probably looking like was influenced from foreign countries, Russia and all sorts. The money used for the Leave campaign was done.

00:38:34.560 --> 00:39:04.520
A lot of it was done illegally as well. Plus, the nature of that campaign was racist-based, in essence. It was about freedom of movement and trying to keep foreigners out. So overall, when that vote came out in that way, it was incredibly disappointing, certainly for me. And since then, it's been obvious

00:39:05.920 --> 00:39:34.480
to be able to do this in a way that doesn't significantly impact people's lives over here is extremely difficult. Yet the government's taken an approach where they straight away put a two-year time limit on themselves to be able to do it, despite having absolutely no plan in place. And we're now six, eight weeks away, and we're still in no position where anyone knows really what's going on. And I think it's a frustration for pretty much anyone involved with it.

00:39:34.540 --> 00:40:04.360
that our government, well, all sort of the parliament really, very few people have done anything to try and to make this work properly. So, and it's worrying, it's worrying. And hopefully, hopefully there'll be some delay, I think, whilst more plans are done. But it is, it's completely all consuming at the moment. More or less every news thing you get is about it. Very little has been done by the government in these two,

00:40:04.380 --> 00:40:32.020
two and a half years outside of that. It's just incredibly frustrating. I would like to kind of not to lighten that because we're in a similar in my mind. We're in a similar situations, but because we voted to blow everything up, too. But I was going to lighten this up a little bit, but just by saying how deeply entertaining and uncomfortable it is to watch a session of Parliament.

00:40:34.400 --> 00:41:03.300
That weird old traditional thing of just, ah, you know, everybody's shouting and just like, it's almost like play acting. It always blows my mind. Yeah. And, you know, it does one. But sometimes you realize when, you know, you get the Tories on one side and it's probably no surprise that them being right wing on, I'm no fan of the Tories. But so we talking about, you know, the impact of something in terms of poverty. And you'll also, they'll always be laughing at doing that pantomime thing.

00:41:03.340 --> 00:41:33.020
It's been quite serious issues that is really disappointing. But I suppose, you know, I know you've voted to blow yourself up and guys doing a good job of it. There is an element of entertainment of every time your man Trump comes on and does something. I mean, it's deeply terrifying, obviously, at the same time. But there is an element of entertainment to it. I think what we've tried to do, what I've tried to do is not focus on.

00:41:33.020 --> 00:41:59.820
It's easy to focus, I think, on the bad guy over the water in Britain. And actually, we've got plenty of horrible things happening here that we really need to worry about. And actually, it's a bit of a distraction. But I think one of the things that is important and does worry is that our government seem to want to... What's the word I'm looking for? We've invited him over.

00:42:03.020 --> 00:42:32.660
welcomed him to parliament, he met the queen, endorses him to some extent, which I think is the part of it most deeply worrying is our government. We see what's happening over there and we're happy with that. So I'm not part of that. Yeah, I mean, it's funny. It is frustrating. I have nothing else, if nothing else, regardless of what one believes, and I don't mind going on the record and saying I can't stand our president, but both of our countries are in this kind of weird gridlock right now where just you cannot,

00:42:34.339 --> 00:43:03.000
I don't know how we get out of this gridlock. You know, I mean, nobody seems to have a solution for whatever thing we're stuck with. So that's a strange time. Strange times to be alive, man. Indeed. Yeah, I just listen to all father songs and feel better. Feel better, yeah. Scream into your pillow. Did you realize it was going to be prophetic? Well, in all honesty, when so song, Mouth of the Beast, which is from Bless the Earth of

00:43:03.660 --> 00:43:33.000
was about actually a local issue that we had where a local politician switched to UKIP, the UK Independence Party, one of the drivers behind Brexit. And we had like the second, in my town, the second only MP for UKIP. And that song was about how those scare tactics are being used to raise people's fears and try to push them to vote for the right. To some extent, it was based on

00:43:33.040 --> 00:43:38.440
Again, sounding a little bit poncier, but there's a play called The

00:43:40.370 --> 00:43:51.720
The Rital Rise of Oturo Ui, which is based on a gangster play, but mirrors the rise of fascism in Nazi Germany.

00:43:52.750 --> 00:43:56.060
Well, in Nazi Germany in the 2030s.

00:43:56.200 --> 00:43:57.960
So, and that was a bit of an influence.

00:43:58.240 --> 00:44:28.200
It was about that raising of fear. I remember the day after the vote, we played a show and I don't think we've probably ever been better at playing that song because we were so disappointed and so angry. We just tore through that song and it was in some ways a little cathartic for a few of us who were incredibly disappointed. And then perhaps little frustrations for it. We've seen this coming and we felt like we knew this was going to happen, but we weren't able to stop

00:44:28.700 --> 00:44:58.120
Yeah, yeah. We know that feeling. For what it's worth, and you would certainly know better than me, but something tells me in some of the stories I've heard that you guys might end up with another referendum on that thing, right? Yeah, I'm not entirely sure that that helps us. I don't know, because if it, you know, I can't imagine it will be significant, a significantly different result. And then, you know, we might decide to remain, but it'll only be a few percentage points. And then everyone that voted leaves,

00:44:58.240 --> 00:45:25.500
We'll say, well, hang on, do we keep doing this? So unless it's a landslide in one way or the other, then it doesn't really put a lot to bed. So I don't know. It's a fucking mess. It's a mess, yeah. So strange. So what's next for you guys? I mean, like you were talking about how the album sales and stuff were used to put back into the band and fun things.

00:45:28.300 --> 00:45:58.200
the next album yet? Absolutely. It has. So we are, I think, Andrew's working on four or five songs at the moment, which once he feels ready, will pass over. So imagine this year we'll, if we can, look to start writing those. And hopefully play a few more shows. Probably do a

00:45:58.220 --> 00:46:26.980
A few more t-shirts because we like designing t-shirts. I think, you know, I don't feel like you totally addressed the vinyl question. So, we couldn't afford to do vinyl for the album. If we'd have known how well it sold, we might have made a different decision. I still don't think we made back the massive investment that you need to do it. It's a lot, yeah.

00:46:28.220 --> 00:46:58.180
And I did go to a couple of labels that we released it and explored whether anyone would be interested in working us with that. They both said, if you'd have come to us before, we might have been able to help you out. So we'd like to do it, you know, not to necessarily really shoot ourselves in the foot about it. And I think if we went with vinyl now and it didn't sell,

00:46:58.220 --> 00:47:28.200
in the way we needed to, we wouldn't have any money to record the next album. So I think we'll keep it in mind. And if the opportunity comes up, then we may do that. But for us, the music is probably the priority rather than the format. Yeah, you can always do it later. It doesn't have to come out the same time as the album. That's absolutely true. And that's just my little jealous want. Because I think it would sound huge on vinyl. But I also think, you know, you guys keep putting

00:47:28.240 --> 00:47:58.200
good records like this one and this really is a fine fine record um your visibility will raise and stuff there's there's there could be cause in the future to go back and put some of the stuff out i'd buy on that you wanted to here's hoping and certainly i think it's felt since that's come out certainly the last couple of months there's been a probably we've gone up a notch in terms of certainly the interaction that we're getting from a from a social media point of view we've just uh so yesterday day before when was it thursday we did a

00:47:58.220 --> 00:48:28.160
We went out for a pre-order with a new shirt and that's sold faster than any of our shirts before. So we're only going to print 25 and we've sold 25 already so we're probably going to go up to 50. Is that the shirt kills fascists? Yeah, yeah. So we've been planning it for a while and some people were doing it for a while and it's a cheap shirt and it's a simple shirt and it's an expensive shirt. But yeah, the orders for that have been fantastic. So it's felt like things have gone up a notch so that's good.

00:48:28.220 --> 00:48:30.040
for us. So we'll continue

00:48:30.140 --> 00:48:30.700
with what we're doing

00:48:31.550 --> 00:48:32.580
and then think about

00:48:32.980 --> 00:48:34.320
what's next musically for us.

00:48:34.960 --> 00:48:36.440
Well, you know, worth mentioning too,

00:48:36.600 --> 00:48:38.180
ours was not the only list

00:48:38.190 --> 00:48:39.400
you showed up on this year.

00:48:39.580 --> 00:48:41.480
So you are, there are people

00:48:41.660 --> 00:48:43.620
taking some notice of you guys.

00:48:43.800 --> 00:48:44.480
So, and you know,

00:48:44.640 --> 00:48:45.280
we weren't the only ones

00:48:45.290 --> 00:48:45.920
who kind of gave you guys

00:48:46.060 --> 00:48:46.680
some praise this year.

00:48:46.900 --> 00:48:48.700
No, I mean, the reviews

00:48:48.790 --> 00:48:50.580
that we got were pretty much

00:48:50.920 --> 00:48:51.500
completely positive.

00:48:52.559 --> 00:48:55.720
And the Angry Metal Guy 4.5

00:48:55.940 --> 00:48:57.280
just blew us away really.

00:48:57.340 --> 00:49:26.920
So I think that in itself was a massive boost for the band. I mean, I try and do whenever we stream a track, I try and make sure everything goes through Bandcamp so I can see what the impact is. And we did three significant things in terms of streaming during the PR campaign. We were out on Decibel, Citadels was on Decibel. The album went out on Metal Injection.

00:49:27.360 --> 00:49:57.300
And Angry Metal Guy reviewed our album. And Angry Metal Guy was by far the biggest impact. The spike in listens was just absolutely massive. So we were really chuffed about that, really excited about that. And what was even more exciting is then reading all the comments underneath the review that disagreed with it. You know, Tom, I've always said that no matter what your score is, and you guys benefited greatly on Angry Metal Guy,

00:49:57.400 --> 00:50:27.320
But no matter what they score it, it's got to be good. Because first off, the comments alone are entertaining. If you just look at it as just entertainment, they go nuts in there. But there's a lot of exposure to getting an album reviewed on that site. I mean, there could be 100 comments in like a couple of days. It's nuts. Yeah. I mean, we really lucked out first time around because they reviewed Bless the Earth with Fire and gave us a four. And then this time around, actually, the Angry Metal

00:50:27.360 --> 00:50:55.260
guy twitter account sent me a picture of their um i think one of their internal message boards between like the reviewers that said uh citadels is probably the best metal thing we've heard this year looks like we're really liking you guys so i knew i knew they liked the album but i didn't quite know that they were going to like it that much so um that was that was a massive boost for us nice were there any albums from last year that you really liked a lot

00:50:57.619 --> 00:51:25.240
Me? Oh, yeah. Hang on. Yes, there was. I think you mentioned quite a few of them when you were talking. When you did your reviews, The Skeleton Witch, I think, was my favourite album last year. I really liked the EP before, but I think a few of us in the band really enjoyed that. And for me, especially some of the vocals, very much behind the new vocalist, especially on

00:51:25.300 --> 00:51:55.240
of the sun I just thought were fantastic there was an album by a band called heads for the dead Serpent's curse which was like it's like an old some other dudes for another band yeah I thought that was absolutely brilliant and probably my second most distance of the last last for those two were

00:51:55.280 --> 00:52:24.760
But they're big for me. Really, really enjoy both of those. The Iron Regan Gatecreeper split. That was fantastic. Especially the Gatecreeper stuff. I'm a massive Creeper fan, so really like that. Vile Creature, two-piece Doom band. Really good album from them. A band called Cundra, UK band. We sound like a cross between a sort of old-school Mastodon and a less shiny,

00:52:29.140 --> 00:52:55.220
I think they're about to tour over there in the States with Rivers of Nehill. Is that how you pronounce it? Nile. Nobody knows. It's got to be Nile. I'd absolutely recommend checking them out. Conjurer. They're not a doom band. I know Conjurer makes them sound like a doom band, but they're not. So that was a really good album as well. I like that one.

00:52:56.859 --> 00:53:25.240
Same. Is that the Meyer? Yeah. What is it called? Yeah, Meyer. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. I like the Clutch album as well. I know you guys aren't a big Clutch fan, but I love the Clutch album. Oh, if I were here. There again, Will's luck. I think we like Clutch, we just don't consider him metal. Yeah, yeah. And we also just like to give Will's shit. Yeah. Me and my other half went to see him in December, just before Christmas, and

00:53:26.120 --> 00:53:54.700
We had to sit in the balcony for reasons I won't go into. And it was brilliant. There was four blokes on the stage with their amps set up. They're at Brixton Academy, which is a 2000 capacity venue, horribly. And usually when bands play, they have all the backdrops and the walls of amps. But no, it's just four of them with their stuff. And they were fantastic. Absolutely brilliant.

00:53:56.740 --> 00:54:24.460
We had an absolute while of a time there and we kept getting told off of standing up because we were up in the balcony, had to sit down. We just kept jumping up and dancing and everyone kept telling us off. It was it was fucking brilliant. So yeah, the clutch album is good as well. You know, I'm a little embarrassed because when that heads for the dead thing came out, I was interested in it. But they released this song like way before the record came out. I actually think I actually preordered it. So why I don't have this, I don't know. But who that is, this one of the guys from Wombath is in there.

00:54:25.660 --> 00:54:26.020
Also,

00:54:26.210 --> 00:54:26.300
also,

00:54:26.300 --> 00:54:26.740
Ur-Sign,

00:54:26.860 --> 00:54:27.340
who I don't know,

00:54:27.520 --> 00:54:29.400
but Wombath,

00:54:29.450 --> 00:54:30.200
we saw at Dust Bowl.

00:54:30.630 --> 00:54:30.740
Yeah.

00:54:30.840 --> 00:54:31.260
If you go back,

00:54:31.600 --> 00:54:32.960
or at Def,

00:54:33.140 --> 00:54:33.380
MDF.

00:54:34.339 --> 00:54:34.700
MDF.

00:54:35.240 --> 00:54:35.420
Yeah.

00:54:35.460 --> 00:54:35.820
So cool.

00:54:35.980 --> 00:54:39.980
I will dig back into that one since I never heard the whole record.

00:54:40.520 --> 00:54:40.680
I mean,

00:54:40.740 --> 00:54:41.080
it's catchy.

00:54:41.320 --> 00:54:43.560
It's so catchy and so much fun as a,

00:54:43.660 --> 00:54:46.220
as a death metal album.

00:54:46.640 --> 00:54:47.620
Duction on it's great.

00:54:48.090 --> 00:54:48.520
The artwork,

00:54:49.240 --> 00:54:50.860
I've got the CDs somewhere.

00:54:51.420 --> 00:54:53.140
The artwork and the design has gone into it.

00:54:53.140 --> 00:54:53.600
It's fantastic.

00:54:54.080 --> 00:55:24.040
I managed to grab a shirt as well. So yeah, I really just really like that. It's a straight up sort of death metal album. So I have a new question that I want to start asking everyone during interviews, and you get to break it in. It's nothing fancy, but what song or artist has had a major impact on your life? I would probably say

00:55:24.080 --> 00:55:54.040
See, it's always too obvious, isn't it? It's going to be one of the big bands. But for me in particular, I'd probably say Rage Against the Machine. About five or six years ago, I had to work out what was my favourite album of all time. And I think based on the fact that the impact it had, how much I still listen to it, the debut Rage Against the Machine album for me probably

00:56:04.680 --> 00:56:19.700
I think at one point we probably played a cover of every song off that first album. So I owe the words to it. And I still listen to it now, you know, I think it still for me holds up.

00:56:24.080 --> 00:56:54.020
The Machine Album was probably the biggest, had the biggest impact on me. I think I was, when I heard it, I was listening to, I got into Metallica, sort of Guns N' Roses and things like that. But I remember at K, I think Bomb Track came on a Saturday morning chart show we used to have over here on ITV. And I was just like, what the fuck is this? This is amazing. I still remember I was sitting at, sitting at my,

00:56:56.980 --> 00:56:59.820
They had gone out shopping and I was just like

00:57:00.380 --> 00:57:05.720
I've got to know what this is and a couple of guys at school had the album and I was hooked from then

00:57:06.540 --> 00:57:09.160
Do you recall what the first album was you ever bought?

00:57:10.380 --> 00:57:12.700
It was probably Michael Jackson, Bad

00:57:16.700 --> 00:57:18.820
So I'm not sure even I bought it

00:57:18.850 --> 00:57:20.720
This is the problem, I think it was probably bought for me

00:57:20.720 --> 00:57:47.620
Yeah, either way, the first album you ever acquired, let's put it that way. Yeah. Otherwise, I think it's probably Use Your Illusion 1. I went out and bought myself with money. I already had tapes of Appetite for Destruction, and I had tapes of recorded tapes that other people have done for me of the Black Album and Master of Puppets.

00:57:56.460 --> 00:57:59.160
I like that you had to make a financial choice there too because you're

00:57:59.300 --> 00:58:12.420
probably my second album ever was Michael Jackson's Thriller yeah I think actually the first my first I

00:58:12.520 --> 00:58:18.140
remember the first album I had that was mine when I was a kid a young kid as a comedian over here

00:58:18.980 --> 00:58:48.120
It was called Ken and it was his comedy thing with these little puppets that he used to do. We had the Torvich vinyl of that which I used to love listening to. That was probably that was bought for. I was about four at the time I think. Tom did you ever get a chance to see Ridge Against the Machine live? I did. I was both at a Reading Festival. I unfortunately never

00:58:48.160 --> 00:59:17.220
I got to see them in a proper venue and I didn't get tickets for their Highbury Park show when they got to number one so they got to number one at Christmas over here one year and they did a free show in Highbury Park and I didn't manage to get tickets for that and then yeah and I think that was the last time they played over here but I got to see them twice and that was good enough for me so. They're amazing live.

00:59:18.160 --> 00:59:47.780
I think I saw them on Lollapalooza once. Pretty sure they were there. Woodstock 99. I saw them. Yeah, I was at Woodstock 99 too. Were you Billy? No shit. Yeah, yeah, man. Were you guys breaking stuff? No. No. Was that that one? Was that the infamous one? One of them was way more peaceful than the other, so that's the one. It was good for the first couple days.

00:59:48.140 --> 01:00:17.900
Right. I mean, there was bad things going on, but it was, you know, for me and my friends, it was fun the first couple of days. But yeah. Nice. Does anybody else have any more questions? I got one quick one and hopefully this won't be too much, but I'm just curious about, I was reading an interview where you guys were talking about how you came up with your name, Allfather, which is a great metal name, but there was one name that you guys were throwing around, Goat Catapult. Yeah. To me, absolutely.

01:00:18.140 --> 01:00:48.120
I love that name now obviously Allfather comes off much better I think for what you guys are trying to do but yeah yeah how did how did Goat Catapult get just pummeled out of the list because it's a great name I think we're in a pub we were in a pub I remember that's how all these things happen that's where they were starting a pub we'd come we'd come along with the list of stuff and I googled every single name on there to see if there was other bands and I think the ones that we kind of had left were I think it

01:00:48.160 --> 01:01:17.120
It was Goat Thrower. And then because we'd had a couple of beers, Goat Thrower ended up as Goat Catapult for some reason. Sure, sort of like the Led Zeppelin thing. It's like a Led Balloon, Led Zeppelin. Yeah, okay. You could have... There's a German band called Goat Explosion. That would have made a great tour. The other one that I always liked was Baboon War. Baboon Warfare. I still want to do a grind project called Baboon Warfare.

01:01:18.140 --> 01:01:48.100
But then Allfather came up and I knew that there had been a Canadian band, black metal band, but they hadn't done anything for six, seven years. So I thought, I think that's enough time in it before you can pinch it. So we decided on that. Nice. You know, if the day ever comes when you could be as big as a band like Boyce or Colt, I don't know if you know their story, but sometimes they'll play like these one-off shows in small venues and they'll call themselves Soft White Underbelly.

01:01:50.400 --> 01:02:18.120
And unless you're a super fan, you wouldn't know they're playing. And these shows are packed, but it'd be great if you're looking and you say, hey, this band Goat Catapult is playing this weekend. And if you get out there, it could be like a long line of people who already know it's all father. It's like Metallica and Spastic Children. Right, exactly. Same thing, yeah. I mean, I think Baboon War and Goat Catapult should be song titles. We should totally incorporate it into the next album. Yeah, well, we'll see. I'm not sure the rest of the band would agree, but I'll

01:02:20.960 --> 01:02:46.240
All right. Should we move on to the rest of the episode? Yeah. No objection? Yeah, do it, George. All right. One thing I want to mention is that in December, we did record an interview with Infero Bruro, and we were looking to do an episode to tie that with, but there's been a delay on organizing that episode. So that will be coming later.

01:02:46.320 --> 01:03:16.160
But I wanted to mention that Infero Bruro is going to be touring late February, early March, like up and down the East Coast and a little more into the middle. They will be here in Baltimore on February 23rd. And I know at least that I will be going. So make sure to check those guys out. And if they're coming through your area, go see them. Also, please make sure to like us on Facebook and Twitter.

01:03:16.340 --> 01:03:43.840
Check us out on Bandcamp. You can find out all our individual Bandcamp pages on our website. Go there, check it out. Now let's get into the news. This first item literally brought a tear to my eye.

01:03:46.340 --> 01:04:16.300
Now, Bruce Corbett of rigor mortis and War Beast has been moved to hospice, which means he's probably not long. That means he's definitely not long. Yeah. I'd been rooting for the guy. He's been fighting this cancer for a while. And for a while there, I thought he had some good news, but apparently he didn't. So... Well, there was a picture that accompanies that news that...

01:04:16.340 --> 01:04:45.320
shows you where he's at right now, which is great. Or not great, I'm sorry. Also, it's so strange and interesting to me that as we're all getting older and some of these band people are getting sick and so on and so forth, and it's so odd to have the names of their bands attached to their obituary, you know? I mean, and I'm not making light of that, it's just, but the dude from Rigor Mortis, I mean, you know, it's so strange. Yeah. It's sad he's only 56.

01:04:47.280 --> 01:05:15.180
Yeah, yeah, yeah, stage four esophageal cancer. It's nuts. But, you know, I have a friend whose wife had cancer in the chest and in her brain a few years ago, and she was given months to live, and she's still fucking here. So, I mean, I would just say, you know, keep fighting. You never know what's going to happen. And that was the second time that she went through that. Jeez. So you just never know. Yeah. Speaking of people that have battled back, Tony Iommi.

01:05:16.320 --> 01:05:43.220
who is thus far still with us, despite his condition, is going to be guesting on a song on the new Candlemas album. The song is called Astorolus, The Great Octopus, and it's going to be on the new Candlemas album, The Door to Doom, which releases February 22nd. And I did not know this until recently, but the revolving door of Candlemas singers has spun back around at the beginning.

01:05:46.320 --> 01:06:16.220
from the first album, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, is doing vocals on this new album. And I know John, at least, and myself have listened to a few songs off that album. And oh, yeah. Yeah, I love the new Canna Mass songs. There's two out there now. I just I didn't think that the Door to Doom was going to be this compelling, but I love those songs. Yeah, I'm really surprised how good they are. I feel like Johan has like rejuvenated the band. And I'm looking forward to the album. You know,

01:06:16.300 --> 01:06:22.160
It wouldn't have been on my most anticipated, but after hearing those two songs, man, I'm really jazzed for this album.

01:06:22.210 --> 01:06:27.520
Yeah, I was ready to completely ignore it because I, you know, I'm a Messiah fan.

01:06:28.130 --> 01:06:31.960
I mean, obviously I'm a Johan fan too, but, you know, never thought that was going to happen again.

01:06:32.940 --> 01:06:37.800
See, and that's what got me back in right off the bat is when I heard he was going to be singing on the album.

01:06:38.790 --> 01:06:45.280
But listening to that song that Tony Ami's on, I don't know if anyone got this, and I don't know who's listened to it outside of you, George,

01:06:45.340 --> 01:07:13.680
But his guitar sound itself reminded me of that song, The Devil Cried, that they did off the Dio years. It's just got this big, massive, just booming sound. And it's nothing super fast. But immediately when you hear it versus the other song, what is it, The Omega Circle, I think, you know, you put two and two together, you know it's Tony Ami playing with them. He's so distinctive in what he does.

01:07:15.340 --> 01:07:42.740
And hey, you know what, let's reuse the first album cover and just switch it up a little and I'm down. Yeah, I did. You know, I'm ready. It's just they reversed the colors a little. I honestly haven't dipped into it yet, I will, based on your excitement. I got a little tired of that revolving door that George was talking about a little bit. I mean, like, it took a lot of faith to jump into Robert Lowe, but then I felt like that was a good payoff. And then they went out and got a guy who kind of sounded like Robert Lowe, which I thought was a weird fucking choice.

01:07:45.360 --> 01:08:14.800
I'm totally excited and expect to like it as much as you guys. Yeah, when John and I saw them at MDF, I was not terribly impressed. No, it's because it was the non-Robert Lowe guy, right? It was the next dude. Yeah. I mean, because, you know, that King of the Grey Islands and Lucifer Rising, some of the stuff they did in it was so fucking good. So, cool. I will jump on that excitement train. Awesome. And I was surprised.

01:08:15.380 --> 01:08:45.319
I wasn't terribly surprised. I knew he was working on stuff, but I was surprised how soon the new Devin Townsend album, Empath, is going to be released. That's coming out on March 29th, and I am giddy like a schoolgirl, as John would say. Well, I think I got that from Saturday Night Live from, I don't know, the 80s or 90s. But see, I feel the other way, George. I've been waiting forever for this album to come out, because it seems like he's worked on this one longer than most of his stuff. Well, it's kind of like the Monty Python, Holy Grail, where the guy

01:08:45.359 --> 01:09:12.900
The Guy Is Running Running Running and the guys are like standing there watching and he's really far away. He's really far away. He's really far away and all of a sudden. Boom! He's right in front of him. This one's interesting because it's the first one without his his band that he's had for years now. That's not Devin Thompson's project. Project. Which is basically the same band those two projects, but it'll be interesting to see what he does. Is it supposed to return to heaviness type album?

01:09:15.339 --> 01:09:19.420
about the heaviest stuff he's done since trapping young lad.

01:09:19.839 --> 01:09:21.480
Oh, you've actually heard him? You've heard that?

01:09:22.520 --> 01:09:26.299
No, I thought that's what he was talking about at some point.

01:09:26.299 --> 01:09:31.359
I feel like I did see a headline intimated that might be heavier.

01:09:32.400 --> 01:09:37.779
You know, what I got from some of the stuff I read, and I follow him just because I'm a big fan,

01:09:38.160 --> 01:09:41.759
it seems like he feels kind of, I don't want to use the word liberated,

01:09:41.960 --> 01:09:45.819
But he feels like he's been kind of freed from some of the Evan Townsend project

01:09:46.380 --> 01:09:58.240
constraints, which it's really his gig, no matter what he says. But it seems like he feels like he can go back to some of that Strapping Young Lad sound and still incorporate some of the stuff he's been doing the past few years on the same album.

01:09:58.380 --> 01:09:59.780
I'd love to see a mix of all that.

01:10:00.600 --> 01:10:02.800
Yeah, he doesn't feel constrained by the project itself.

01:10:04.140 --> 01:10:09.400
It's really funny because he said as much when he left Strapping Young Lad as well, though, didn't he?

01:10:10.700 --> 01:10:11.260
That's true.

01:10:11.300 --> 01:10:11.880
Yeah, man.

01:10:12.540 --> 01:10:14.280
And now he gets to go and do other stuff.

01:10:14.580 --> 01:10:15.860
So that's good for it.

01:10:15.940 --> 01:10:17.020
I mean, I can't wait for it.

01:10:17.180 --> 01:10:19.340
So it'll be really interesting what it sounds like.

01:10:19.600 --> 01:10:20.140
I agree with you.

01:10:20.140 --> 01:10:25.520
I think the difference this time is that he is, his life is in the place where he wants it to be.

01:10:25.820 --> 01:10:28.380
And he can't stop writing music now.

01:10:28.760 --> 01:10:29.800
The symphony of dicks.

01:10:31.160 --> 01:10:32.900
Yes, I'm waiting for that, too.

01:10:34.180 --> 01:10:34.700
Well, it's interesting.

01:10:34.800 --> 01:11:04.680
He mentioned that the process of creating the record was recorded from when he first came up with the ideas to you know all the way through so apparently there were a lot of existential ups and downs and we're going to get to see a video series to show what happened and I was happy to see Anik Van Geersbergen from The Gathering that's going to be a guest on that record too. I don't think she'll ever not be on an album with him as long as it's under the Devin Townsend moniker. And I also don't think there'll ever be a Devin Townsend record that doesn't deal with existentialists.

01:11:06.540 --> 01:11:33.180
So now we get to see videos of it. If you haven't read his book, I recommend it. It's pretty messed up. I went to see him do the zealtoid shows at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago. And there wasn't a lot of existentialism going on there, let me tell you. Yeah, no, no, no. There are those ones. You can stick your hand in the catalogue and pull a few wacky ones up. He did a Devon Townsend show afterwards. Sorry, he did a set at the end.

01:11:34.800 --> 01:12:04.500
So I don't have all the downtowns and albums, but I've got, I think, two or three of them and know them quite well. And yet he seemed to play songs off all the other albums. But it was still it was still absolutely amazing. The Royal Outlaws is an incredible venue. Is that the one he is that the one he recorded and released? Yeah, it's an amazing show. It's a great show. Oh, man. He's just great on stage, too, because you never know what he's going to say. I mean,

01:12:04.800 --> 01:12:33.920
George and I've seen him a couple times. I've seen him a ton of times. He's quotable. Yeah, I think when I saw him on when he played, do you remember when Opeth and Macedon, their tours collided in Philadelphia? And they had like all those bands like Russian Circles and Gojira was with them and Devin Townsend and some other shit ass stoner band I don't like. But I'm sure that'll upset some people. He, I think at one point had said he was like a lemon shooting him out of his ass on stage.

01:12:34.100 --> 01:13:03.440
It's the gift that keeps giving every show. It doesn't stop. For me, he's got one of the best voices in metal that can just do so much different stuff. He's almost like an opera singer in terms of power of his voice sometimes. He's just fantastic. I want to see him do a stand-up show because he's damn funny. George, we sort of saw that at Proc. The first five, six minutes was just him talking. Behind the curtain.

01:13:03.500 --> 01:13:30.660
They hadn't opened the curtain. He's just back there talking about his mother's leathery lips. I'd rather be a prog nerd than a fucking pussy. Yeah. Good stuff. 1349 has released a new single that I am going to probably butcher the pronunciation of, but I'm going to call it Dodd's Camp or Comp, perhaps, as part of a commission to interpret the artwork of Edvard Munch.

01:13:33.480 --> 01:14:03.460
coming out later this year. Has anybody else listened to this song? I thought it was pretty good. Yes. Cool. You know, it's, well, I have a few things to say about it. One is I looked up the translation of Dodd's camp and the actual, the translation of English as Dodd's camp. So that wasn't helpful. But I, I really want so much to believe, and I like these guys, so I'm not making fun, but I want to believe that it's a Danish word for dad's camp, you know, like a camp for dad's summer camp. But I actually looked it up, Jay. It means

01:14:03.520 --> 01:14:03.760
struggle.

01:14:04.920 --> 01:14:06.460
Do you think it's a word?

01:14:06.560 --> 01:14:08.060
Your Google is stronger than J's.

01:14:09.040 --> 01:14:09.500
Norwegian.

01:14:10.620 --> 01:14:11.280
It's Norwegian.

01:14:11.540 --> 01:14:14.000
Is it somehow tied to Edvard Munch?

01:14:14.440 --> 01:14:15.400
Is it Munch?

01:14:16.540 --> 01:14:21.520
Well, the whole idea behind this is like a visit in Norway and the Munch.

01:14:21.620 --> 01:14:23.220
I think it's actually pronounced Edvard Munch.

01:14:23.220 --> 01:14:23.600
Yeah, I know.

01:14:23.640 --> 01:14:25.100
I was joking that I pronounced it wrong.

01:14:25.240 --> 01:14:25.540
Okay.

01:14:26.720 --> 01:14:32.580
They came up with the idea to commission Norwegian artists to like interpret paintings from Edvard Munch.

01:14:32.960 --> 01:15:02.900
No, but I'm wondering if that, yeah, I got, I saw that, but I was wondering if that word in particular was somehow in the name of one of his paintings or something, or. I didn't see anything about that, Shane, but. It's super relevant to the kind of guy he was based on the translation you just shared, but I would just say this, it's, it's definitely like the most. Straightforward and yet kind of further progression for them that they've released so far. Who knows if it's only focused on this thing and the new record will be a little bit less so it's hard to say, but you know, I mean,

01:15:02.960 --> 01:15:32.940
I mean a cauldron of chaos was their most approachable record I think even though it's hardly approachable if you're not into extreme metal and if this is any indication of what the next one's gonna be like I'm super excited about it and I like them anyway I mean I I buy 1349 records so yeah and I I have to say I felt like massive cauldron was fairly different from was a demon noir was that what was before that I was different than everything before yeah I mean it took me a little bit to get into and once I did I was like okay I love this too I love you guys um so I yeah I'm

01:15:32.980 --> 01:16:02.140
They're pretty much on board for whatever they do. And they make good beer. Yeah. Yes. And they tour in a very extensive sense. So you always get a chance to see them when they've got a record out, too. When I saw Celtic Frost on the Monotheist tour, they opened for them. It was a great fucking bill. Yeah, it was a good track. It is a good track. It's a great track. So Dismember has apparently reassembled their original lineup to reunite for Scandinavia Death Fest in October.

01:16:02.980 --> 01:16:31.820
Makes me wish I was in Scandinavia. Did you get what you just said, George? Dismembered, disassembled. They reassembled the members that were dismembered. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Yeah, for sure. Remembered. Is that the Death Fest? Is that one tied to MDF? I was wondering that. I meant to look it up before and I forgot. They are doing something over there now. Because there's another ones? Yeah. California.

01:16:33.300 --> 01:17:02.920
And maybe that's number four. Maybe not. Did you say Montreal or something? I thought there was one up there. That's right. Yeah, there's a Canadian one. Wow. They're getting around. Yeah. That's why the one here is not any good anymore. They're not paying as much attention. The California one's never been anything that made me think I needed to go. Is this a one-time thing for them to do this death fest? I hope not. Or are they actually back together? Maybe it's an exploratory committee. I mean, that's how it usually happens, right? It's like you get these reunions.

01:17:03.420 --> 01:17:07.720
and people play a show and then they hey let's hang around have some beers and write

01:17:07.880 --> 01:17:13.160
something and then it turns into an album so yeah we'll see yeah be cool i mean i love like an

01:17:13.160 --> 01:17:18.520
ever-flowing stream so yes it's like it's like the ur end podcast

01:17:20.680 --> 01:17:22.880
an ever-flowing stream of urine

01:17:25.760 --> 01:17:32.940
oh it was yeah so the lords of chaos trailer was released and there was a little bit of talk

01:17:32.960 --> 01:17:33.860
about that.

01:17:35.540 --> 01:17:41.080
I think it was Jay perhaps that mentioned that the lack of any sort of accent was a little disconcerting.

01:17:42.380 --> 01:17:42.480
Yeah.

01:17:42.680 --> 01:17:42.740
Well,

01:17:42.880 --> 01:17:43.340
and not only that,

01:17:43.340 --> 01:17:48.080
but just sort of like this really dumb American teenage accent really is what it is.

01:17:48.080 --> 01:17:48.340
I mean,

01:17:48.540 --> 01:17:49.080
and that's fine.

01:17:49.130 --> 01:17:49.400
I mean,

01:17:49.480 --> 01:17:51.960
because there was teenagers who partook in those things,

01:17:53.740 --> 01:17:54.580
but to me,

01:17:54.580 --> 01:17:56.080
it looked like the set and setting was correct.

01:17:56.210 --> 01:17:56.420
You know,

01:17:56.560 --> 01:17:57.420
I'm interested to see it.

01:17:57.870 --> 01:17:57.960
Yeah.

01:17:58.530 --> 01:17:59.660
And it's directed by,

01:17:59.780 --> 01:18:00.180
what's his name?

01:18:00.260 --> 01:18:01.020
Jonas Ackerland,

01:18:01.480 --> 01:18:02.500
the former Bathory.

01:18:03.720 --> 01:18:04.860
member turned filmmaker.

01:18:05.650 --> 01:18:05.740
Yeah.

01:18:05.920 --> 01:18:07.160
That's some good metal cred.

01:18:07.320 --> 01:18:07.420
Yeah.

01:18:07.480 --> 01:18:07.780
For sure.

01:18:08.140 --> 01:18:08.360
Yeah.

01:18:08.700 --> 01:18:09.880
But then he casts a Culkin.

01:18:11.540 --> 01:18:11.700
Yeah.

01:18:11.840 --> 01:18:13.640
I don't even know who this Culkin kid is.

01:18:13.740 --> 01:18:14.620
How many are there?

01:18:14.700 --> 01:18:15.180
It's like a.

01:18:15.440 --> 01:18:15.940
He's in.

01:18:16.420 --> 01:18:17.840
He's the little brother in Home Alone.

01:18:18.960 --> 01:18:21.260
And I know he's in Scott Pilgrim versus the world.

01:18:21.660 --> 01:18:21.760
Yeah.

01:18:21.900 --> 01:18:21.960
Yeah.

01:18:22.060 --> 01:18:22.740
He's in some other stuff.

01:18:23.180 --> 01:18:23.540
Oh.

01:18:23.760 --> 01:18:23.960
Right.

01:18:24.020 --> 01:18:24.520
He plays.

01:18:24.780 --> 01:18:25.640
He's the gay guy in that.

01:18:25.660 --> 01:18:54.720
Yeah. Oh, I didn't know that was him, but now I see it. I want to say he's in Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys 2, now that I'm naming. But, George, I thought you had a good point wondering about the release of it. I'd be very curious to see, especially around our areas, what theaters this ends up in. Yeah, it's coming out in February, apparently. Oh, okay. It's coming out in February or it's coming near you in February? It's coming out in February in the U.S. I don't know if any of you guys have direct TV or whatever it is.

01:18:55.700 --> 01:19:25.480
But out here we have Comcast cable and there's like this there's a now in theaters I almost expect to see it as an option there before I see it in an actual theater like it'll probably be available to rent on one of the rental things while it's out in theaters. Oh yeah well I think they said it comes out in theaters like the 9th of February and then the 22nd it's out on like streaming or video or something you get it something that but I'm really I thought the trailer was pretty good and I mean it's fresh in my mind because I was in Norway this summer.

01:19:25.660 --> 01:19:55.060
So I went to the Nessa Blood Records, which is where the Helveta was, where they used to meet, you know, and they wrote black metal, you know, in the basement. So, you know, I've been telling the story to people a lot. It's like, why did you go to this place? This is why, you know, I wanted to see where history was made. They let you go in the basement? Oh, yeah. Yeah. They have a museum down there. Well, I call it a museum. It's like a, just a bunch of like paintings and just weird, like,

01:19:55.160 --> 01:20:25.140
exercise equipment that some people use. It was really weird. Like, Euronymous's exercise equipment. It's strange. And then people, like, paint things, you know, about the band and then just send it to them and then they'll put it down there. It was, it's, it's kind of crazy. There's old magazines and, like, a collection of art. But it's, it's kind of just haphazardly put down there and there's hardly any lighting or anything. But then they have the back room where they, you know, where they wrote black metal on the wall and then they, they put a

01:20:25.160 --> 01:20:28.060
like a wooden chair that looks like a throne there.

01:20:28.780 --> 01:20:29.680
And you can take pictures.

01:20:30.580 --> 01:20:31.880
You have a picture of that.

01:20:32.740 --> 01:20:33.000
Oh, yeah.

01:20:33.280 --> 01:20:33.460
Yeah.

01:20:33.460 --> 01:20:33.800
I saw that.

01:20:34.900 --> 01:20:35.040
Yeah.

01:20:36.260 --> 01:20:38.500
I guess you don't go there and not take the picture.

01:20:38.920 --> 01:20:40.000
You're sitting like, oh, fuck it.

01:20:41.380 --> 01:20:44.100
I tried to write my name in the most metal font I could.

01:20:44.620 --> 01:20:44.940
Good for you.

01:20:44.960 --> 01:20:45.960
Did you see a few months ago?

01:20:46.860 --> 01:20:49.000
I actually have no idea on the timeline of it.

01:20:49.000 --> 01:20:54.520
I just know it was sometime recently that, you know, after Dead killed himself,

01:20:56.960 --> 01:21:03.080
Euronymous distributed chunks of his skull fragments, and there was recently a piece that went up for sale.

01:21:04.220 --> 01:21:04.280
Yeah.

01:21:04.800 --> 01:21:05.320
Oh, jeez.

01:21:05.600 --> 01:21:06.180
Could be anything.

01:21:06.660 --> 01:21:06.840
Yeah.

01:21:07.240 --> 01:21:08.760
He supposedly made soup with it, too.

01:21:08.900 --> 01:21:09.720
I mean, you know, I don't know.

01:21:09.720 --> 01:21:10.980
Yeah, well, it comes with the letter.

01:21:11.070 --> 01:21:16.040
I saw a picture of it, and it's like he had taped a piece of the skull fragment to this letter to whoever he sent it to.

01:21:17.480 --> 01:21:19.140
Yeah, that's probably something I'm not going to bid on.

01:21:19.330 --> 01:21:20.480
Yeah, probably not.

01:21:21.740 --> 01:21:51.180
I was thinking how that perhaps would belong in that museum. Yeah, there you go. So. Yeah, yeah, it was interesting. So Eric Rutan is going to be filling in on guitar for the Cannibal Corpse tour. Unfortunately, they're not coming here. But that's kind of coming to Chicago. I saw him for the first time.

01:21:51.240 --> 01:22:17.040
I've never really been into them but they played over here last year and Black Daily Murder was supporting. I really wanted to see them and I ended up getting the Red Before Black album and I absolutely loved it and I've slowly been going back to their back catalogue because they were fantastic when they played. I'm just on a skeletal domain at the moment and oh man that's amazing. Kill or Become, I just can't stop listening to that track. It's fantastic.

01:22:21.580 --> 01:22:51.200
That would be the first one Will would tell you to buy as the resident cannibal corpse guy. But yeah, I saw him on that tour tour and they were fucking great, man. I don't know how much longer he can do that to his neck, but we'll see. I mean, they're getting up there at age, man. You know what I mean? And by him, I'm talking about George. That neck looks pretty sturdy, though. I don't know. He's got four necks. I mean, I've got a 19 and a half inch neck and mine looks tiny compared to his. So yeah, I think it's all right for a while. You'd always know if he's, you always know.

01:22:51.280 --> 01:23:20.580
If you borrowed one of your shirts, you'd be like, what the fuck? You know? Well, I think I said on the year-end podcast that you need a neck brace when you're listening to All Father. That's right. That's right. Neck-sercises. But also, no update on the legal and or rehab struggles of... I forgot his name already. Pat O'Brien. Pat O'Brien. Pat O'Brien, excuse me. Yep. So, we'll see. I would say this was surprising, but actually,

01:23:20.640 --> 01:23:49.140
Really logical choice. You know? Oh, yeah. Totally. Yeah. No. Yeah, because he's produced like, what, three or four corpse albums? Four of them. Yeah, he's a good guitarist. So, you know, I was wondering what was going to happen with Cannibal Corpse. But, I mean, even if they didn't show up, that Decibel Magazine tour is one of the best lineups this year with Morbid Angel, Necro, and Blood Incantation. Yeah. Yeah. So, I'm happy that they got a good replacement for it. So, it should be a great show. I don't think they're going to miss a beat.

01:23:50.040 --> 01:24:19.860
Just saw Nickrat last week again with the mighty Possessed. Yeah, how was that? I didn't really... I don't think you really talked about that too much. It was great, but you know, maybe it's the things you love the most you talk about the least because Possessed has been such an important band in my life for just really for two records that they put out in the 80s. But I never had the chance to see them. I lived in a small rural area when they existed as a band and then you know anything about their history. They went on to break up and then Jeff,

01:24:20.040 --> 01:24:49.960
I'm not sure if it's Baccaro or Becerra, because I've heard different things, got randomly shot on the street in San Francisco. So he's in a wheelchair, you know, and there's just this long weird history. So they slowly kind of come back together. They have a record coming out this year. And so it was this really actually hugely momentous thing for me to finally hear that voice live. And the vocals were set up really nicely. And he's got just like one of my favorite death metal vocals of all time. It was amazing. It was fucking killer, dude. I wouldn't have changed anything about the set list.

01:24:51.040 --> 01:25:20.020
It was in a place that holds a fair amount of people, but I've never seen it so packed. Because they are, of course, a Bay Area band. Yeah, looking forward to that. I brought the Cougar Bush with me, but in all honesty, he hit Tom Warrior. I was like, I don't know. I don't even know if I really want to interview this dude. I won't do a good job. I'm going to just look like an idiot. That's the way I feel about anybody that's of a significant...

01:25:20.060 --> 01:25:49.760
If I ran into Metallica, I'd be like, uh, uh, uh, you know, I've got nothing to say. What can I ask that hasn't been asked a million times? You know? Well, you know, you'd be the Chris Farley of interviews. You know what I mean? Yeah. Remember when you were in the Beatles? That was pretty cool. Yeah. So anyway, it was a great, it was a great show. Nice. So Saxon's Biff Byford is working on a debut solo album for release later this year. And Jay rejoiced. I did.

01:25:50.060 --> 01:25:53.880
I asked George to put this on the news list just because I'm a long-standing Saxon fan.

01:25:54.800 --> 01:25:57.560
Saxon fan. George corrected my... Yeah.

01:25:58.000 --> 01:26:04.420
And, you know, they really... You can stick your hand in the discography almost anywhere and come up with something pretty good.

01:26:05.120 --> 01:26:09.120
And I still, to this day, think they should have been the other... They should have been the big three.

01:26:09.300 --> 01:26:14.080
Maiden, Priest, and Saxon should have been... Had a bigger impact on the States than Saxon did.

01:26:14.680 --> 01:26:18.320
But that stated, I love Biff. He's an older dude now, and he still sings great.

01:26:18.480 --> 01:26:47.380
He's putting together a solo album. It's cool. I'm going to keep an eye out for it. There's some pretty cool people involved. So just wanted to put it on everybody's radar. Yeah, it's cool. He's pushing 70, isn't he, Jay? Somewhere in that neighborhood, dude. And he's still hitting the high notes. Yeah, he's still really good. I read that the LP's not going to be focused on heavy metal. He's going to be doing other things with it. So it'll be interesting to see what he does and who he gets to guest star on it. So it's actually being produced by the guy who produces Dimey Barger.

01:26:48.480 --> 01:27:16.920
or stuff like that. So I'll have to go look at it again. But he's just he's one of those guys that I call him. He's on my heroes list. Yeah. And I love his voice. Hang on a second. We may have a special guest. If it's Will, I'm hanging out. God damn it. Yes. Unfortunately. Hey, man, what's up? Hey, I'm just leaving a.

01:27:18.460 --> 01:27:48.440
a thing. So I thought I'd chime in just to say hi. Nice. Yeah, it's a nice surprise. We're almost done with the news. We've talked about a few things you would have liked to have been here for, including Clutch was mentioned once or twice. Not in a fully... I'm sure. No. No. Do you have like a rock and roll segment or something? No, no, no. Our guests mentioned them favorably, I believe. And then they also came up on

01:27:48.960 --> 01:28:13.160
Since you weren't here, we all said nice things about them. You know, I find it interesting, George, that the next item we're going to go into, Will called right before it. Yes, our final news item, Stone Brewing is going to be releasing the Enter Night Pilsner Metallica beer. You're going to hang up now, Will? Enter Night Exit, Will.

01:28:18.920 --> 01:28:46.500
I'm not shocked it's a pilsner because I know Stone will make a great pilsner. I just hate the name. Yeah. Hey, I don't mean to be a jerk. Well, but don't be such a dick. Say hi to Tom. Oh, I was going to add. Well, you guys are acting like nobody was on. Hey, Tom. Hey, how's it going, man? You all right? I'm all right. Yeah, yeah. Sorry. I had a funeral to go to. Well, just convincing everyone that Clutch were in fact a metal band and should be on. We're retroactively putting them on the list.

01:28:47.580 --> 01:29:16.900
I love you, Tom. You're a lovely bastard. You're making me ill looking at your blurry picture. Oh, sorry. I'm holding up to my ear. Ah, there you go. Okay, okay. Well, you can do that. I'm driving, so I'm actually waiting to go. All right. Well, yeah, put it back to your ear because we can hear you better. And also so you don't get in an accident. And I'm checking out the inside of your ear now. I can tell what that is. That's awesome. I've never seen wax like that before.

01:29:17.380 --> 01:29:38.460
I like that canal. I think you better get that checked out. All right. That's going to have to come off. Yeah. Called Matt Pike's doctor. Oh, oh. All right. Let's move on. I'm worried about Matt. I'm worried about. Yeah, no shit. Let's move on to new releases.

01:29:48.020 --> 01:30:16.140
And allow me to butcher this first one. Barshaskith? Barshaskith? I spelled it wrong. There's two different spellings. I just noticed that. I left an R out of that one. I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be an R there, Barshaskith. Maybe you're 50% right with those two spellings. So they're a Kiwi black metal band in New Zealand. It's their fourth album.

01:30:16.240 --> 01:30:46.220
And I've only given it a cursory listen so far, but I'm digging it. Anyone else? I haven't listened to it yet. I listen to it. I mean, it's a decent kind of by the numbers black metal to me, like, uh, but you know, I, I need a little bit more. If I'm listening to black metal, I usually need a little bit more. And every now and again, they give you that, like the end of ruin one, I thought has some really good riffs in it, but, um, it wasn't enough to win me over. I probably have to give it a

01:30:46.260 --> 01:30:47.380
more spins to see.

01:30:48.480 --> 01:30:50.260
But yeah, it was, you know, it's a decent effort.

01:30:52.140 --> 01:30:55.960
Next up, we have the new Flotsam and Jetsam album, The End of Chaos.

01:30:56.310 --> 01:30:58.020
This is their 14th album.

01:30:59.000 --> 01:31:01.760
And I've always been a Flotsam fan.

01:31:02.360 --> 01:31:04.300
The first three albums for me are classics.

01:31:06.080 --> 01:31:09.500
Quatro and the like half dozen albums after that, not so much.

01:31:10.960 --> 01:31:12.440
But the last couple albums have been pretty good.

01:31:12.620 --> 01:31:14.080
And I thought this one was pretty solid.

01:31:15.720 --> 01:31:45.600
George, as a fan, I don't really know anything about them, but I have seen the artwork for the album. Is that the usual type of artwork they do? It just looks shit. Maybe it's an homage to the first album, because that was kind of crap, but also cool. I thought they were big bands. I've heard their name quite a bit over the years, but I'm just

01:31:45.640 --> 01:32:15.600
I look at the art and think, someone signed that off and went, yeah, that's it. The Weird Fish Man is what we want. It just looks odd. Yeah, they're kind of second tier in terms of the thrash bands. They wouldn't make the top four, five, eight, but they've always been one that I really liked a lot. I always thought, because of the name, I didn't realize they were a thrash band. I thought they were sort of a

01:32:15.620 --> 01:32:18.420
a proggy band, but it makes a bit more sense now if they're a thrash band.

01:32:19.760 --> 01:32:21.420
Yeah. I mean...

01:32:21.440 --> 01:32:24.620
So we're not going to see a Fishman on the next Allfather album cover.

01:32:26.960 --> 01:32:28.260
It's really disappointing, Tom.

01:32:28.680 --> 01:32:31.460
Yeah, well, it'll be better drawn maybe, I don't know.

01:32:33.760 --> 01:32:37.280
I mean, I thought the Flotsam and Jetsam song was pretty good, you know.

01:32:38.000 --> 01:32:41.200
Pretty good production, and I haven't listened to Flotsam and Jetsam forever.

01:32:41.850 --> 01:32:43.940
The only thing, I listened to only a couple tracks.

01:32:45.100 --> 01:33:14.860
Demolition Man, they just kept singing that chorus over and over, and that horrible Stallone film just kept popping in my head. So, you know, the music was pretty good, but I could not stop that image from coming in. Stallone and Wesley Snipes. I saw the weirdest story about Sylvester Stallone the other day, and you know the turtles that he has in Rocky? He still has those fucking turtles. Wow. Really? Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Fun fact. That's crazy. I mean, turtles live a long time, so.

01:33:15.080 --> 01:33:45.060
So does Keith Richards. When was that movie made? Like 79? No, before that even. 75. Really? Yeah. Wow. Turtle power. Next album is A Pale Horse Named Death and their third album, When the World Becomes Undone. They're a New York Doom band featuring two former members of Type O Negative. That'd be Johnny Kelly and Sal Abrascato. Unfortunately, this doesn't live up to my

01:33:48.040 --> 01:34:14.280
It's not terrible. By any means. But it's no typo negative. Fair enough. I don't know. Did you listen to this at all, Jay, being a typo fan? I honestly didn't. You know, they are kind of weirdly active on their Facebook page still sometimes. And I halfway expect them to do something, believe it or not, as a group. That's stated.

01:34:15.100 --> 01:34:43.840
Nah, Peter Steele was my great love. So it would be like if Rob Helford died. Priest may not put on a record. Or Glenn Tipton. Well, Glenn Tipton won't put on a record. Yeah. All right. Next we have Soilwork. And does anybody have any idea of pronunciation on this one? Because it's like Verk-a-Lighton? I have no idea. Any guesses? I'll go with Verk-a-Lighton. Verk-a-Lighton.

01:34:45.100 --> 01:35:14.980
I don't fucking know. Sounds good to me. It's their 11th album, the Swedish Melo Death Band. And I was kind of surprised because I haven't really cared about them since the second or third album. But this was not bad in terms of a more commercial sounding metal. I was pleasantly surprised. And I've seen a lot of people saying how much they liked it. So I'm like, slow January, I guess. That's right. If we're talking about soil work, it's a slow January.

01:35:16.700 --> 01:35:44.920
And our last new release, which technically isn't out yet, but I put it on here because it's out next week, is the Swallow the Sun When a Shadow is Forced Into the Light, their seventh album, Finish Death Doom. They do have two songs out there that you can hear now. I like one of them, the other one, not as much. Yeah, I like the first release song. I haven't listened to the second one yet, but I have listened to samples off of, I don't know if it was,

01:35:45.700 --> 01:36:14.660
Centrometer Nuclear Blast, whoever's selling the album. And I liked it, but again, those are 30 seconds, so who knows if the rest of it is good or not. But the one song that was released I did like. And is this their first album without the keyboardist? I believe so. Yeah, there's two new members, I think, also. I think the drummer also, I could be wrong about that. Or maybe it's the other guitarist. I can't remember. I only saw them once, but I was just completely taken about how into the keys that dude got.

01:36:14.740 --> 01:36:44.600
I could have watched. In fact, I did watch it the entire set. I didn't really even give a shit about the music, even though they sounded fabulous. I just watched it and bang his head. It was amazing. Yeah. Yeah. I listened to the two tracks, Fire Lights and Upon the Water. I thought they were both pretty good. I just probably need more spins. I'd like to listen to them with the other songs on the album, I feel like. You've got to listen to their whole album. Context. Yeah, Context, exactly. Hey, George, I think you might be in a little withdrawal, too, for this album.

01:36:44.760 --> 01:37:14.680
because this was your number one, wasn't it? Their last album? Which was, what, about eight hours and 75 minutes worth of music? Yeah. You know, and I know that that was a, you really liked that one, so maybe this is just like, oh, it's just one album. It's only 80 minutes long. What am I going to do with that? It's like a single for them, yeah. Yeah, we'll see. I'm just glad you're still making music, just given everything that the band has kind of gone through, specifically the one guitarist.

01:37:16.440 --> 01:37:22.120
All right, we're going to move on to our top five releases that we're looking forward to in 2019.

01:37:46.740 --> 01:38:12.500
Will, do you think you could chime in on that? Can you guys hear me? Somewhat. Yeah. Okay. I didn't get the script, but I can. I should have sent it to you anyway. That's right. Inner Arma coming out with a new one. Overkill. I'm sure there's like, oh, Crypt Sermon by far. Yeah.

01:38:14.760 --> 01:38:17.260
I'm sure some of the ones you guys will name,

01:38:18.080 --> 01:38:19.640
they will be on my list as well.

01:38:19.760 --> 01:38:22.700
They're the three just off the top of my head as I'm driving that I can think of.

01:38:22.800 --> 01:38:22.960
Okay.

01:38:23.720 --> 01:38:23.780
Cool.

01:38:24.480 --> 01:38:24.660
Cool.

01:38:25.020 --> 01:38:25.260
All right.

01:38:25.360 --> 01:38:25.440
Well,

01:38:25.640 --> 01:38:26.420
we'll get into this.

01:38:27.220 --> 01:38:27.400
Tom,

01:38:27.540 --> 01:38:27.940
you want to,

01:38:28.160 --> 01:38:28.980
did you make a list for this?

01:38:30.300 --> 01:38:30.740
I did.

01:38:31.220 --> 01:38:31.640
What did you want?

01:38:31.760 --> 01:38:32.320
All five of them?

01:38:32.360 --> 01:38:32.480
No,

01:38:32.520 --> 01:38:32.600
no,

01:38:32.740 --> 01:38:32.820
no.

01:38:32.940 --> 01:38:33.100
We're going to,

01:38:33.980 --> 01:38:35.800
we're going to do this the old fashioned way.

01:38:36.280 --> 01:38:36.700
One each.

01:38:36.840 --> 01:38:37.000
Yeah.

01:38:37.220 --> 01:38:37.580
So like,

01:38:37.660 --> 01:38:40.180
give us your five and then we'll do all our fives and you know,

01:38:40.640 --> 01:38:41.200
so on from there.

01:38:43.300 --> 01:38:44.340
So you want all five of them?

01:38:44.420 --> 01:38:44.460
No,

01:38:44.980 --> 01:39:14.540
Sorry, my number five. Sorry. Venom Prison. So they're a UK band. I don't know if you guys have heard of them. UK death metal band. Yeah, actually, we just got the promo. Oh. Yeah, so Venom Prison. I'm really looking forward to that. We managed to play with them in a rehearsal space about two or three years ago. And before they were signed to ProcessX. And they're fantastic.

01:39:14.660 --> 01:39:44.400
I could have said don't bother it's garbage. Yeah. All right. George is that an English accent attempt? It was half an attempt. I started to do it and I was like what am I doing and I just gave up. You can't try and do a British accent when I'm a British guy. I mean come on now.

01:39:44.820 --> 01:40:14.440
So kind of like Kevin Costner and Robin Hood? Yeah, yeah, pretty much. Well, for the first three and a half minutes, you mean? And then he just said, fuck it. Christian Slater didn't even bother. He was just, no, not doing it, mate. Is that the same respect for that? Lords of Chaos? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, to be sure, yeah, the Lords of Chaos. All right, well, how about Markisan next? My number five is Immortal Bird. It's a death grind band.

01:40:14.620 --> 01:40:44.500
from Chicago. They just finished recording in Colorado. The album's coming out from 20 Buck Spin, so I expect to hear a release date pretty soon. They're amazing live, and I just feel like I love their albums that came out before, but I feel like they have room for progression and maturity, and that this will probably be the record where you hear it. So I'm just really looking forward. Plus, I'm from Chicago, so I always have a soft spot for these bands that come out of here.

01:40:44.620 --> 01:41:12.580
because we have some good ones. I have a soft spot for Ray because she's the drummer for Thross and Blot. There it is. It's in the Thross and Blot family, but it's also that record is well-liked by pretty much everybody on the pod, the last one. Looking forward to it as well. Really like them. Awesome. Matt? My number five, Blood Incantation. Yes, sir. Which is the only one on my list that I actually know the title of. Oh, really?

01:41:17.040 --> 01:41:43.680
I read that. Is there a release date on that one yet, Matt? I have a late 2019. Okay. Okay, cool. John. So let me just preface real quick. There's a lot that we're going to mention. We'll mention Crips Sermon, which I'm definitely looking forward to, but I tried to go with ones where there were sort of release dates. So I'm not going to include a lot on here. Of course, then the first one I mentioned does not have a release date.

01:41:44.240 --> 01:42:14.200
So, but Matt already mentioned it, Blood Incantation, Hidden History of the Human Race. Nice. Definitely looking forward to see what they can do since Starspawn. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Blood Incantation is my number five. A threefer. Once around the ride. Yeah. Apparently we have the number one for the end year. I mean, when did the Demon Spawn or whatever the other one was, when did that come out? 2016. Starspawn. Starspawn. Yeah, thanks. But I fully agree.

01:42:14.240 --> 01:42:43.700
expect something kind of big from these guys. And we are in kind of a death metal renaissance, it seems to me, like these last couple years. So I have high hopes for this one. Me too. Are they a Dark Descent band? Dark Descent Records? I believe so. Yeah, they are. Yeah, they are, Matt. Cool. Are we going to have a fourfer? No, we are not. We are not. I'm going to derail that right now. Damn it, George. Number five is Crypt Sermon. Huh. There.

01:42:44.560 --> 01:43:13.680
All right. Hey, can you guys hear me? Yes. Yep. Hey, does Tripticon have something coming out this year? Yep. All right. That's also on my list. And Blood and Cantina. All right. All right. Back to Tom. Well, I have to say I didn't assume the Tripticon would really come out. It's not on my list. But if I had really thought about that, it would be. So I at least have to give a shout out there. Yeah, but Jay, just real quick. I agree with you. I would be on my list too. But it's not just for the simple fact I don't have a date.

01:43:14.240 --> 01:43:17.200
get worried that they say yeah it's coming out next year and then it doesn't come out

01:43:17.700 --> 01:43:22.380
vaporware with tom is true vaporware dude and so yeah i mean it's hard to say but in any case

01:43:23.060 --> 01:43:27.780
highly anticipated whenever it does come yes that's like saying you put the tool album on your list

01:43:28.900 --> 01:43:33.620
well i i certainly don't have that but um but i do have a couple that are kind of vaporware so

01:43:33.940 --> 01:43:40.780
we'll see tool is the exact reason why i don't like to go with non-release date albums on my list like

01:43:40.800 --> 01:44:10.500
these. Because that list has been going on since 2006. We're looking forward to these. That doesn't mean they're going to come out. I do have one carryover from my last year's list at this point. I won't talk about that. Tom. Back to Tom. Back to me. Mastiff, their album Plague, another UK band. I don't know if you've heard the promo for this. I don't know.

01:44:10.780 --> 01:44:39.920
I haven't, but it's, uh, there are, uh, sludgy, do me hardcore bands that make us make all father sound like a pop band in terms of everything. Have they released a track off of it? They have, they've released a couple of tracks. One is called vermin. Um, and, uh, yeah, I think it's out in the next couple of weeks. Um, and their previous stuff has been, I think probably a bit more grindy because this is, um,

01:44:41.280 --> 01:44:44.320
Supposed to be a bit even heavier and

01:44:45.340 --> 01:44:51.920
Doomio and yeah really looking forward to hearing that. I did hear it I liked it but I would disagree I would say y'all can hold your own with them.

01:44:52.630 --> 01:44:53.060
There you go.

01:44:55.940 --> 01:44:56.760
All right Markisan.

01:44:58.060 --> 01:45:02.960
My number. Hey John I'm like five minutes from your house did I stop by?

01:45:05.080 --> 01:45:06.240
If you want I don't care.

01:45:08.560 --> 01:45:08.980
Booty call.

01:45:10.820 --> 01:45:38.360
Well, had I told that, I would have prepared. Shit. I would have wore pants. I haven't showered. Oh, I showered, Jay, so we're good on that. All right, good. And I want Marcus to know I shaved right before we got out. I keep hoping for the beard, man. Oh, no. Where the hell are we here? Number four for me is Adrift. Adrift is a progressive metal band from Spain. I hate comparing bands, but they're kind of like a darker,

01:45:39.080 --> 01:46:09.060
like a riff chunky neurosis with a splash of converge in there so the band was recommended to me by a local street painter in Madrid when I was vacationing there a few years ago and my wife and I were just sitting at this tiny outside bar and he noticed that I was wearing a metal shirt and came over and he didn't speak any English and I only speak a little Spanish but somehow we were able to give recommendations for metal bands and he suggested a drift and another band called Moho and so I picked up a drift album on the band called Moho and I was

01:46:09.100 --> 01:46:37.760
I was in Spain. Their second album, Black Heart Bleeds Black. Yeah, Black Heart Bleeds Black. And I loved it. So I'm just looking forward to the new one. It's been about seven years since that album. But yeah, they've recorded it last year. They're finished with it. So I expect it to come out, even though there is no release date. Okay. Matt? My number four is Too Bold. God damn it.

01:46:39.080 --> 01:47:08.820
I don't get to read my list because Matt's going to read it. Let's switch spots. No, no, no. It's all spirit love and war. And it's not like it's a contest after all. Yes, it is. Right, right. I'd like to know that we're on the same wavelength. Maybe a little bit. Yes, a lot, but maybe a little bit of a contest. A contest, yes. Yeah, hey boy. John. So Two Mold Again would also be on my list, but no release dates, so I'll just go with an album we've already talked about. My list is huge, it's just I don't know when they're coming out.

01:47:09.100 --> 01:47:37.660
But I am really big on this new Candlemass just because of the two songs and the fact that they're original singers back. So Candlemass, the door to do it. I'm hoping it's even remotely as good as some of their other things. Then I'll be pleasantly happy with the release. And two of both for me. This is my only one that has a release date and an album title. Devin Townsend Empath. Nice.

01:47:39.080 --> 01:48:09.060
What's the date on that one, George? March 29th. March. Excellent. Excellent. Pulled that one out. Didn't write it down. All right. Back to Tom for number three. Now, I'm starting to worry that I might imagine this because I've got my date for it, but I think there's a new Gate Creeper album coming out. I believe so. And I'm over the moon looking forward to that. We saw him play in London last year.

01:48:09.080 --> 01:48:38.220
after the release of the last album. And they were just fantastic. And I've got the singles and the repeats since then. And yeah, can't wait for them to do something new. So go, Kripp. Okay. Yeah, number three for me is Kripp Sermon. I've been playing Out of the Garden and, or demo actually, quite a bit lately just to get ready for it.

01:48:39.100 --> 01:49:09.060
I think you know when a band a new band comes out with an album as good as out of the garden we have this expectation that the next one's going to even be even better and I think on the year and we'll even said that Crip Sermon was going to be his number one for the year which is kind of crazy but it just kind of shows how much of an anticipation there is for their next batch of songs so looking forward to that one and they're going to be playing at Atlas on the decibel was it pre fest show yeah week before yeah

01:49:10.940 --> 01:49:38.300
Yeah, I talked to Jay and Steve from Crypt Sermon. They both, in person, they play at Atlas of a different band, Deva, and they said the new album, like, leaps and bounds better. I'm like, really? Is that possible? Do we know if it's going to be out before Decibel? It's supposed to be. So they're done all the tracking, and I thought it was the first quarter of this year that it would be out. Okay. Cool. Nice.

01:49:38.420 --> 01:50:08.120
So maybe mid-year then. That'd be nice. I know the new Ashen Horde album is coming out right before Decibel 2, so looking forward to that. And Trevor is going to be present. Is that not correct? Nice. Matt, what is mine? Jay, our number three is King Diamond. Well, on my list, but no, not my number three. Okay, cool. John? Nice.

01:50:08.420 --> 01:50:38.300
Again, another album we talked about just because we have a release date, and it's actually coming out next week. Swallow the Sun, When a Shadow is Forced Into the Light. I'm a big fan of these guys, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. My number three is, we just spoke about them a bit ago. I'm hoping for good things. There was already a preview track that came out, and I do believe this record will indeed come out this year. It's finished, I know it is. And they made a documentary about the making of it. The new Possessed album is coming out this year.

01:50:39.820 --> 01:50:44.000
The guy who made the documentary about it, I mentioned this once, but is

01:50:44.400 --> 01:51:07.200
the guy in Fargo, the guy who always wants to go to the Pancakes house, the guy that kills the other guy and stuffs him in their shit. He made this documentary about them for some reason. I have no fucking idea why that is. If he loved him when he was young or if he's just a documentary filmmaker, but a strange twist. I just saw that there's going to be a documentary coming out called The Growl, which is a death metal documentary about the death metal style of singing.

01:51:08.300 --> 01:51:37.860
They're still filming it, but I saw a flyer for it. There was a clip, a YouTube clip that I saw about six months ago where the premise of it was everyone says Death Metal is just screaming and anyone can do it, it's no skill. And they went around about, I don't know, 20, 30 people and tried to ask them to do it. And about five could, but everyone else just either went, I've got no idea where to start, or just did something like,

01:51:38.300 --> 01:51:43.740
just some horrendous noise but about four or five of them were just amazing really really good vocals

01:51:44.240 --> 01:51:49.040
cool um i thought it was quite interesting did any of them did any of them did any of them fall into

01:51:49.160 --> 01:51:53.280
like convulsive choking because that's when you start to do that yeah that's what happens to me yeah

01:51:54.980 --> 01:52:00.100
yeah i know that's what you know when i when i started off um you think you need to use your throat

01:52:00.140 --> 01:52:05.180
and you just shred it completely and you blow your voice really easily and uh you get you get to learn

01:52:05.200 --> 01:52:35.080
And after a while, you need to use your lungs and your diaphragm and your throat just there to shake the sound. But it takes a long time to get to that point. Yeah, we're still not quite there, I don't think, but almost. You know, actually, while we're on that subject to your voice, there's some interesting things on the record where you can almost hear two distinct tones coming out of your voice at the same time. I don't know if that's something you've noticed. I don't know how to explain it. I'll isolate it sometime, like,

01:52:35.200 --> 01:53:04.640
and send you a text or something that says listen to these 30 seconds. And it's interesting to me. It sounds almost as if there's this great wind and then the tone coming out. It's very interesting. I don't know how to explain it. Very quickly, we recorded with two mics. One was slightly more distorted than the other. Although we didn't double up any of the vocals. It was all single vocals. Which, actually, if we did it again, we're not sure.

01:53:04.660 --> 01:53:34.540
We might have doubled it up, I don't know, but there wasn't anything particularly special going on effects-wise apart from some distortion and things like that. So I'm interested to see where you think that happens. I will, but I can tell you this. This is clearly a physical thing that's happening. It's like as somebody who sings themselves, but it's really cool. It's a deeply unique thing. It reminds me of the fact that if you sing a note perfectly, and I know that's not exactly what we're talking about here, but if you sing a note perfectly,

01:53:34.680 --> 01:54:04.560
you can hear two tones in the note, you know, like when somebody is exactly spot on. There'll be the lower version of what they're singing in a higher version. And anyway, I'll I will make a point of telling you where I hear it. Just I've never been accused of singing in tune. How dare you, sir? I tell you what, I when I was at school, I was part of the drama and I did a pantomime, which is like Christmas tradition over here. And I played Rosie the Fair.

01:54:05.660 --> 01:54:34.040
and I had to sing a song particularly out of tune and like in a funny voice. My stepdad came to see us and my stepdad's an opera singer and afterwards he said, I've never heard anyone sing so perfectly out of tune yet somehow make it work. And I was like, cheers. So not to keep going off on this, but that's funny because I just watched this movie last night, which I'd seen before and it's called Florence Foster Jenkins.

01:54:34.160 --> 01:55:04.000
Yeah, yeah. Oh, she was terrible. And it's where Meryl Streep is a terrible singer, but she was a real person, and she was this society person in New York in the 40s who loved music so much but for life could not sing. But she would put her concerts for her friends, and they didn't have the courage to tell her, you suck. Plus, she really put a lot of money into the music scene. Anyway, long story short, she ended up playing at Carnegie Hall. It's a funny movie. Yeah. I'm walking into John.

01:55:06.740 --> 01:55:32.900
Nice action scene, Will. Yeah, it's my number three. I'm about to do my number three. My number three, I expect to hear again. Unless people are behaving like John and not putting it on them because there's no release date. And to use Matt's pronunciation, this is Car-Cass. Car-Cass.

01:55:34.180 --> 01:55:34.380
that again.

01:55:35.960 --> 01:55:36.360
Yeah.

01:55:37.000 --> 01:55:37.200
All right.

01:55:37.860 --> 01:55:38.520
Back to you.

01:55:38.800 --> 01:55:39.040
Number two.

01:55:39.900 --> 01:55:42.740
I'm going to take an opportunity for next two to plug some mates bands.

01:55:42.980 --> 01:55:44.460
So Jason,

01:55:44.940 --> 01:55:45.660
who helped us,

01:55:45.840 --> 01:55:48.520
we recorded his studio at Century Audio.

01:55:48.620 --> 01:55:49.560
He's got a band called Arrowed.

01:55:50.800 --> 01:55:52.500
They've been recording a new album.

01:55:54.240 --> 01:55:54.780
Death Metally,

01:55:55.480 --> 01:55:55.880
grindy,

01:55:55.920 --> 01:55:57.160
power violence-y type thing,

01:55:57.460 --> 01:55:59.400
but more Death Metally than anything else.

01:55:59.900 --> 01:56:00.700
I don't know what it's called yet,

01:56:01.020 --> 01:56:03.960
but I think they've just got a couple of vocals left to do.

01:56:04.000 --> 01:56:33.220
that should be out later this year. But Harrowed, looking forward to hearing that. We played with them live a few times and they are, there's only three of them and the fucking racket they make is just fantastic. That's like a review, a fantastic racket. I was in a record shop, I don't know, maybe a couple of years ago and the album was there and the record shop I go to, they put little tags explaining what the band is like. And when I read that, I just picked up Blind,

01:56:34.040 --> 01:57:03.980
and I play that Harold album a lot. It rips. Inferno, yeah. Yes. Yeah, absolutely brilliant. And we've heard a couple of new songs played live and Seb, who's their singer, this little chap with Bontea and he plays in like a white shirt and black jeans and in between songs he's really quiet. As soon as he's opened his gob it's just shredding, absolutely shredding. And his guitar stuff is brilliant as well. And Jason drums for them and he's

01:57:04.000 --> 01:57:27.080
He's a fantastic drummer and yeah, really. Let me ask you this. Okay, we got a feedback thing going on here now. Hang up, Will. I'm trying to. So here's my question, John, is how big is your fucking house? Because that walk took forever. Were you walking around in circles for a while? Did you guys get lost? Well, we had to get a beer.

01:57:36.680 --> 01:58:03.840
Are you guys going to share a mic, I hope? Yeah, we could do that. So you can hang up that, hang up his phone. I think we were at number one. Oh, I never did my number two. I didn't ever take my number two. We're at number two. Sorry. No, I think we left off with Tom and he did number two. Right, Tom? Yeah. That's my turn then. Okay. My number two is Yellow Eyes. I don't listen to a lot of block metal.

01:58:04.000 --> 01:58:32.480
that I love, but Yellow Eyes, I think is my favorite black metal band. We were talking about the black metal band that we were listening to earlier. I don't even remember the name because George didn't write it properly. Thank you. If I listen to Yellow Eyes, they just put a lot more into their music than I hear in other black metal groups. I'm always looking forward to it. The last two have just been phenomenally good. I would agree. I love that last one. Awesome, Matt.

01:58:34.020 --> 01:59:03.940
All right, my number two, I don't know if it's been said yet. I'm kidding. It's CarCass. Beat you to it. You did. All right, that's John then. I just want to say people won't know this because they're only listening to us, but we were watching Will on the Skype. I kept trying to figure out what trees he was passing as he was getting closer to my house. It didn't work. Mostly sized armpits.

01:59:04.020 --> 01:59:33.300
So I don't know how you can possibly describe anything. I know that ear canal. Wait, that's not a deer canal. So my number two, we've already mentioned a couple times. It's going to be Devin Townsend, Empath. Okay. Jay. My number two is Vaporware, in truth. Could be good, could be not so good based on his last few releases, but he's a musician who's long been close to my heart, as has his band.

01:59:33.320 --> 02:00:02.180
that goes under his name, King Diamond. And after, by the way, after the Abigail tour, which was killer, and I still want to tell everybody, if you're at all a fan of his, you should listen to this new live record. And I'm definitely going to buy the live DVD when they come out. He's in top form right now. And his guitar player, Andy LaRock, I've come to find out it's pronounced, says it's going to be a little bit more leaning towards classic stuff. So here's hoping. And I'm definitely excited about it. This could be a good year for him.

02:00:02.660 --> 02:00:05.800
Indeed. Or you could do Give Me Your Soul Please 2.

02:00:07.900 --> 02:00:09.540
My number two is

02:00:09.720 --> 02:00:09.920
Tryptagon.

02:00:14.040 --> 02:00:15.020
Yeah, I know.

02:00:15.620 --> 02:00:16.600
I was waiting for that.

02:00:17.820 --> 02:00:19.660
That's right. There's something else for number one.

02:00:22.600 --> 02:00:23.700
So for me, number one,

02:00:24.390 --> 02:00:25.720
there are bands that

02:00:26.580 --> 02:00:27.880
they've got an EP coming out

02:00:27.880 --> 02:00:29.480
this year. They're called Red Bait.

02:00:30.160 --> 02:00:32.020
They're like a grindy, chaotic

02:00:32.040 --> 02:00:40.460
hardcore bands uh anti-fascist pro-feminist pro-union bands uh they uh they're like ep last year

02:00:41.000 --> 02:00:45.880
red tape it was one of my favorite i think it's my favorite probably my favorite release of the year as a

02:00:46.240 --> 02:00:51.080
uh it was only about nine minutes long um so really looking forward to their new ep that's coming out

02:00:51.320 --> 02:00:59.820
this year um not what it's called yet but red bait okay cool i want to check out uh okay my number one

02:00:59.820 --> 02:01:29.800
is Tripticon. Milana Cosmata was my number one album in 2014, so I've been anxiously awaiting a new record from Tom Warrior and the Boys. So hopefully we get to hear some new tunes at the Decimal Metal and Beer Fest if the album's not out by then. Yeah, it was my number one that year too, and people made fun of me, so I'm glad somebody else had it that too. Really? Yeah. It was funny. I was just listening to the previous Tripticon record, and

02:01:29.980 --> 02:01:59.800
It seemed like the beginning of the album was really awesome and then the end of the album kind of like gets really like psychedelically strange toward the end. I don't know if it was just me or what but it just seemed like it was like it was two different albums. I'm starting to worry about your attention span. Well, most of your reviews are like that. The first song was great. Skip the first three songs. You know, it reminds me of some this this guy on Saturday Night Live used to review porn

02:01:59.820 --> 02:02:29.640
And he'd say, yeah, so this one would be like, you know, hot babes and blah, blah, blah. And he'd say, so I started watching. I wasn't really interested, you know, but then I was a little bit interested. Then I got really interested. Then I wasn't interested. All of his reviews were like that. And then there was like one, one, like hot mail on mail action. And he goes, I was sure I wasn't going to be interested in this, but I kind of got a little interested. All right.

02:02:31.760 --> 02:02:57.740
Where are we? I went. So Matt. Yeah. There's really no point in me going because in 2014 Milana Chismata was my number one. And now in 2019, my number one is Trypticon. Nice. Excellent. I couldn't have written this script today that Will would show up just before I got to my number one. Oh, shit. Sorry, John.

02:02:59.840 --> 02:03:29.800
Would you like to tell us what it is, Will? No. I have to say, the only reason I'm making it my number one is just because I heard it might be heavier than the last three albums. That in itself is a monumental upgrade. But being that Opus is my favorite band, it's still going to be the album I look forward to most this year. Even though I don't know when it's coming out. But in the end, it probably won't make my list just because it won't be metal. But nonetheless, you're right. Maybe on the year end, we should do

02:03:29.820 --> 02:03:59.680
Like, hey, just list three things that you really like this year were not quite metal. That way, I can mention Clutch, and then George can mention Thrassoblay, and John can mention... There you go. I'm down for that. And the only reason they put it on is just because there's grumblings that might be heavier. That happens every time they have their last two albums, and it hasn't happened yet. That's true. Yeah. No. In all seriousness... Two grumblings, not one. In all seriousness,

02:03:59.820 --> 02:04:29.800
Lads, as someone that listens to the podcast now quite often, a top three non-metal stuff you're listening to would be quite interesting to listen to. Right on. Okay, cool. All right, we'll do it. I can do that. Assuming that you do listen to other stuff other than that. Oh, yes. We do. In fact, I wanted to start another podcast that's just rock music. Or not even that. It should be whatever you want. I mean, we could do one. We could do one right now when we close this list out. We could just easy

02:04:29.840 --> 02:04:59.800
We each do one. Because you're going to learn a lot about each other here. John just did his. So it's mine. And I will say this. The Trypticon, you guys know I love Tom Warrior. Wasn't even on my list, but it's the one I most consider vaporware until we really truly hear something. Even though he actually personally told me that it was going to be out this year. I still don't believe it. But I do love them. So with that, mine is Carcass. I would even call that one a little bit vaporware. But we did see some

02:04:59.840 --> 02:05:00.740
of them in the studio.

02:05:02.460 --> 02:05:05.180
Carcass was my one from last year that I had to.

02:05:05.320 --> 02:05:06.360
So I'm just going to keep it.

02:05:06.460 --> 02:05:06.780
Exactly.

02:05:07.240 --> 02:05:07.580
There you go.

02:05:07.620 --> 02:05:09.220
Just every year until it happens.

02:05:09.700 --> 02:05:13.220
So I bet it comes out before the next Tool album.

02:05:14.140 --> 02:05:17.320
They're saying that it's going to come out this year, but I don't believe it.

02:05:18.140 --> 02:05:20.060
Well, OK, so here's an interesting thing.

02:05:20.260 --> 02:05:23.300
You'll also remember I ran it in Danny Carey at the Decibel Fest.

02:05:23.880 --> 02:05:26.120
And he made it sound like that band is on its death row.

02:05:26.320 --> 02:05:56.240
But they say Maynard finished his vocals, which that was the holdup, right? That was the holdup. So we'll see. Yeah, but Maynard said the band was the holdup. So who knows what the truth is, right? Yeah. Starting to sound like the shutdown. My number one is King Diamond. Oh, how dare you? I thought it would be Trypticon, but it's been so long. It's like 12 years since the last King Diamond.

02:05:57.940 --> 02:06:26.160
So I think that's a little bit more anticipation for me. George, you get your decibel yet? Your new issue? The Deaf Heaven's the latest one I have, thank you. Oh, wait, no. Power Trip? I'm in John's house, and he's got his new decibel, and decibel gave the new King Diamond a 9. Wait, so they... Oh, you mean the live one? Yeah, it's a live album. Oh, sorry. Yeah, but it's well-deserved, by the way. It's a good live album.

02:06:27.140 --> 02:06:27.660
Sorry.

02:06:28.720 --> 02:06:28.980
All right.

02:06:29.200 --> 02:06:31.620
Let's move on to what we are listening to.

02:06:55.740 --> 02:07:24.380
And we'll start with Tom. What you been listening to, man? So, from last year, a couple of EPs. One by Deus Vermin. Like a UK black metal EVC LP. It was fucking thunderous. Really, really good, but really catchy at the same time. I think Jay liked that. So, been listening to that. Which one was it? I'm sorry, I missed it. Deus Vermin. Oh, yeah, that was fucking cool, yeah. I think it was on the mid-list, mid-year.

02:07:25.760 --> 02:07:53.820
my Deus Verbin t-shirt at the moment. So it's my most metal-looking t-shirt for you. Casket Feeder as well, they had an EP last year. Like a hardcore death metal band as well. We listened to the Gate Creeper live album loads, Unleashed in the Middle East, which possibly sounds actually better than recorded live. Cult Leader album from last year, I'm still listening to, still trying to get my head around all of it.

02:07:54.920 --> 02:08:24.520
I know it was on a couple of your lists, but it's fantastic. But there's so much going on, it takes a while to get your head around it. The home record album from last year is like Death Metal Punk Rock. It's fucking great. And then I'm off to see in a couple of weeks time, Municipal Waste, Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, Sick of It All and Ignite. So just reminding myself of some of their records.

02:08:24.560 --> 02:08:54.540
But the last Municipal Waste album I kind of overlooked. We listened to that a little bit. And it's quite good. It's quite good to listen to that. Sweet. Cool. Whatever I've been listening to, Veldez, The Flameless. We mentioned this on the Facebook page. And I described it as a rolling riffy black metal with pretty passages that make me want to play hide and seek with foxes in a mystical forest. And that's...

02:08:54.560 --> 02:09:23.480
Yeah. It's good. I like it. The only thing about that album is there's a lot of vocals. I almost want to just take a break for a second on the vocals. But other than that, I just I really like the instrumentation on that album. I've been listening to the new Malevolent Creation, the 13th Beast. I have a soft spot for Malevolent Creation because they came out of Buffalo. And I grew up in Syracuse, but my mama's whole family lived in Buffalo. So I was there a lot.

02:09:24.040 --> 02:09:53.960
It's okay. You know, it's solid. But nothing on it blows me away. It's pretty much the way it goes for Malevolent Creation. But I still, you know, give them a spin every time they put out something new. They only have one original member left, too, which is crazy. Feral, Flush for Funerals Eternal. I love this outlet. Crushing riffs, like crunchy breakdowns, groovy bass notes that make me want to punch walls and shake my boobs.

02:09:54.040 --> 02:10:23.540
at the same time. Unfortunately, this LP was released on December 30th, which is like the worst time, I think, especially if you want to be considered for a top 25 list. On my birthday, though. I'm not sure it would have cracked mine, but I definitely would have considered it. It would have been an honorable mention for sure. But, you know, it fell in between the times.

02:10:23.620 --> 02:10:53.580
I just released it this year. But it's really good. Yeah, I think you would like it, Tom, quite a bit. You would like that one. Add it to the wish list. And then I'm going to give an album that isn't metal just because Tom wanted it. So, A Mono, Nowhere Near Here. I can't categorize this band as metal, but it definitely veers into metal territory sometimes with heavy riffs. It's got cinematic qualities, almost like a

02:10:53.620 --> 02:10:55.540
a metal record without vocals to fuck it up.

02:10:56.880 --> 02:10:58.400
Is this a Japanese band?

02:10:58.840 --> 02:10:59.060
Yes.

02:10:59.720 --> 02:11:01.860
One of my very favorite bands.

02:11:02.040 --> 02:11:06.740
They've been around 20 years, and it's amazing they're still putting out records this good.

02:11:07.400 --> 02:11:12.120
So this is a majestic album, just full of great instrumental post-rock.

02:11:12.780 --> 02:11:17.080
And they put on one of the very best live shows I've ever seen in my whole life.

02:11:17.840 --> 02:11:20.440
Probably like my top three of all time for bands.

02:11:20.640 --> 02:11:22.420
They're just that good live.

02:11:22.420 --> 02:11:52.220
So if you get a chance to see them and you like this kind of music, definitely give it a shot. I did. And I know Mono well. And I saw them on the You Are There tour. And it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It blew me away. Didn't it? They are amazing. I mean, I was a fan at the time I went because I knew who they were. And I had the record. And they just came out and just fucking destroyed the place. They don't come here that often to the States. So anytime they're here, I'm going. I think this was their first time.

02:11:52.280 --> 02:12:21.800
they came. It was when I saw them. Cool. All right, Matt. That's all I got. All right. I would say that what I've been listening to actually has a theme. All of what I've been listening to, I'm only going to talk about six. That theme would be where the fuck have I been? I found so much good stuff from last year and previous years. The first one is, it's a German band called Downfall of Gaia. I learned of them because they're going to be at Wacken this year and I did not realize.

02:12:22.260 --> 02:12:51.040
They existed and were so good. Next is a band called Lo, L-O, apostrophe. Their album is called Vestigal. They're on a label called Pelagic, which is the dude from the ocean. And I said to myself, the guy from the ocean has a fucking record label. And I looked and I'm like, oh shit. I say that because I started going through and I'm like, wow, I did not know all these guys were on that label. And it totally makes sense. And I say that because it's all really good stuff. Next.

02:12:51.680 --> 02:12:55.220
I don't know that I will ever pronounce this right s-a-o-r-s-ore

02:12:57.100 --> 02:13:02.340
anybody I have no say or I would say or sure that's how I say it just that one

02:13:02.480 --> 02:13:21.640
track but I've in in in that coming out I kind of listen to the few previous efforts like that a lot then in prison as well both. What's the the promo and the previous album and then Ben from chemists. Glacial team the other day he mentioned a band called

02:13:21.660 --> 02:13:25.500
the company of serpents i had not heard of them before i checked them out i thought

02:13:25.520 --> 02:13:30.140
they sound really good yeah i think they're they're from denver there's a okay yeah yeah and i want

02:13:30.760 --> 02:13:35.080
they're they're they're definitely friends the guys from chemists and glacial tumor either friends with

02:13:35.120 --> 02:13:41.260
them or one of them's in the band or something i can't there's some crossover sure but you talk about

02:13:41.300 --> 02:13:46.300
the picture like throwback thursday picture or something that you saw yes yes yes i saw it and i was

02:13:46.300 --> 02:13:51.620
like all right cool and i checked it out and i was like i really liked it uh and lastly the new

02:13:55.480 --> 02:13:58.080
I like it I like it I

02:13:58.280 --> 02:14:02.980
honestly going into it I didn't have much much of an expectation I started listening to and I was

02:14:02.980 --> 02:14:12.900
like I like this so that's pretty solid that's it for me John yeah so I'm like George I kind of

02:14:13.540 --> 02:14:18.100
ditched the metal for a couple days after the year end and go back and listen to everything else I

02:14:18.100 --> 02:14:21.840
I haven't listened to all year so I did it I'm a big pro guys you know so I

02:14:22.040 --> 02:14:26.580
listened to a bunch of stuff there I won't mention but so most of my listings been there so I

02:14:26.700 --> 02:14:32.120
don't have much metal that I have on my list outside of listening to some things that I saw either on

02:14:32.120 --> 02:14:39.100
your guys band camp lists or on your your ends so one of them is outer I think that's the name of the band

02:14:39.180 --> 02:14:45.780
hollow black metal from out right from Poland I like that I thought that was pretty good

02:14:47.260 --> 02:14:48.640
I finally got on the

02:14:50.620 --> 02:14:51.160
Un bandwagon

02:14:52.800 --> 02:14:54.460
because I know you guys were talking about them

02:14:54.680 --> 02:14:56.840
I had listened to it before but I never gave it

02:14:56.840 --> 02:14:58.760
a full listen just because there's like

02:14:59.100 --> 02:15:00.840
10,000 things we have to listen to every

02:15:01.020 --> 02:15:02.120
year to get to 25

02:15:03.680 --> 02:15:04.480
so that

02:15:05.920 --> 02:15:06.980
unfortunately got missed

02:15:07.600 --> 02:15:08.560
and then a lot of just

02:15:09.220 --> 02:15:10.320
what did you think about it?

02:15:10.860 --> 02:15:12.220
yeah I liked it a lot

02:15:12.580 --> 02:15:14.460
I ended up getting it on Bandcamp

02:15:15.560 --> 02:15:44.180
And then a lot of single songs that have come out, I've spent a lot of time with. So obviously we've mentioned the Candlemas, the Oshiarium, which I'm kind of looking forward to, the Seor, or Seor, whatever you want to do. Seor. Yeah, I know. I'm joking. Surprisingly, because I have not been a fan in a long time, the second song released from Dream Theater's new album I actually liked, which says a lot because I haven't liked a lot from them recently.

02:15:44.240 --> 02:16:14.200
But I thought it was actually pretty good. And then a band that I know nobody else listens to but I love is a band called Morgable, which is like a French kind of jazz fusion metal band. They have a new album coming out. Other than that, it's just been all prog and just rock and a lot of dark ambient. I've been getting back into that again. Do you listen to any of that new Evergreen? No, I heard positive reviews, but I haven't been an Evergreen fan for probably

02:16:14.220 --> 02:16:42.179
since their fourth or fifth album. The album cover was really cool, so I listened to one of the songs and I was like, nope. Yeah. It sort of reminds me of a Savotage album cover. Yeah. But with their first album, I think, yeah, I kind of got that feeling too, George, when I saw it. I was like, yeah. I like that. I just want to say, too, that John put together a dark ambient compilation for me, and I've been listening to that a lot too.

02:16:45.239 --> 02:17:14.200
I've gone to that area a little bit, but never as much as John. He put together a really cool compilation. He does that. Thanks, John. Yeah. So I assume, Marcus, on that helps when you were saying you were doing some late night kind of writing and it's just good background stuff for you, right? Yeah, I like instrumental music. I listen to a lot of ambient, just not as much dark ambient stuff, brighter things. I love the composer three

02:17:14.340 --> 02:17:44.200
6 is one of my favorite. And he's got another album coming out. But yeah, because I don't want words or, you know, people shouting at me when I'm writing. So it just helps me to concentrate if I have something like that. So it's perfect. That dark ambient stuff you sent me is perfect for that. Cool. Awesome. Will, are you going to do something? Just a couple. I did. I didn't want to chime in earlier because I was driving, but I

02:17:44.240 --> 02:18:14.120
I did pick up the new Flotsam and Jetsam and I'm pleasantly surprised. I do like it quite a bit and I was listening to it today while I was driving. I went to a local record shop that John and I have been trying to do a man date there at some point. Not a man pause date. Yeah, we already do the man date. This is a different man date. But I picked up a whole bunch of Dio. I picked up the new, like new as in,

02:18:14.240 --> 02:18:42.380
Like the latest creator. And what else did I get? I got the new High on Fire on vinyl. Electric Messiah. I got a couple things. But yeah, just kind of like enjoying some. My wife was gone for the last week. So I've just been spinning a whole lot of vinyl with the kids and taking some pictures. So we listened to Creator Como Souls. But not a lot of new stuff. Probably the newest thing is really just the Venom Prison. We got the promo for that. So I've been spinning that quite a bit. Sorry, Dom.

02:18:43.580 --> 02:19:11.320
Just so you guys know, Will also picked up the new Judas Priest and King Giant. Because he texted me and said, I just blew a lot of cash at the Vienna Music Exchange. So for all of us, our work has paid off. Will is a junkie now. You know, just to rub it in, Tom, we got an email from Prosthetics PR lady and asked if we wanted to have them on.

02:19:14.019 --> 02:19:41.880
Oh, the Venom prison? Yeah. Sorry, I should have specified that. Yeah. No, I knew you, man. I knew you, man. Yeah, great. He's really jealous. You can see it, man. They're really one of my favorite bands, and I really like their first two EPs. I absolutely adore. The album's good, but their merchandise as well is, I've probably got,

02:19:42.460 --> 02:20:12.040
I don't know six or seven shirts and hoodies from them. I love a band t-shirt but their merchandise is just ridiculous so I'm always buying stuff from them so yeah I'm really looking forward to hearing the album. Cool. Jay. Alright so the only thing that's worth mentioning for me is I really had pre-ordered that Heads for the Dead record and just didn't download it so I just downloaded that so I will be listening to that.

02:20:12.340 --> 02:20:42.260
Let me know what you think, mate. Let me know what you think. I promise I will, yeah. I mean, the one track that I had gotten I loved, which I got back in December, whenever the fuck it was. It was way before that, actually. I also recently purchased this Mika. I don't know if any of you guys have that coming in your eyes. Yes. Titles, Ending My Life to Destroy Yours. I think it's just one song coming out ahead of the record. I like this song, so I'm kind of looking forward to what's going to happen with that. And then I have still been,

02:20:42.840 --> 02:21:11.740
clearing my head from the year. The year was hard musical work. So to just slightly entertain you, I will read to you what is currently on my swimming iPod brought to you by Underwater Audio. I was so looking forward to you mentioning your swimming iPod. I thought we were going to get through 10, 3 quarter hours without you mentioning it. We're going to do an episode from the pool. Once in a while, I see another one at the pool. And when you see somebody with one at the pool, you swim by them and you kind of stand like, yeah.

02:21:11.800 --> 02:21:41.720
You know what I mean? You give him a little nut. So this is what Jay is listening to when he's underwater. And these are all the full records I put on. So I put on Witchery, Infernal Majesty's Service, Venom, Black Metal, UFO, Lights Out, Saxon, Lionheart, SOG 3, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, the first one, Possessed, Beyond the Gates. If you don't know that record, you should listen to it. Ozzy Osbourne's Diary of a Madman, Motorhead,

02:21:41.820 --> 02:22:10.160
Orgasmatron, Enslaved, Vertebrae, Deep Purple, Perfect Strangers, Morbid Tales, and two more. I just put the last Cattle Decapitation back on and it's just as good as I remember it being. Yeah, I listened to that recently too and I was like, God, I love this album. And then I am sort of,

02:22:13.461 --> 02:22:39.720
I've got the King Diamond Lost Years, the middle records, and so I've got the eye on my... That's another. I love the title song. It's so good. Really good record. So that's how I am kind of clearing out my mind for the year to come. I have got the new Death Karma album, The History of Death and Burial Rituals Part 2, second album of Slovakian Death Black.

02:22:41.820 --> 02:23:11.500
The new Dirge album Lost, Imperium, or latest one anyway. Seventh album of French Sludge. The new So-in album Lotus, Swedish prog metal from Martin Lopez. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's why I know that. I'm sorry? Did you like it? Yeah, I like it. Yeah, okay. I was reading something about how he was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out compared to the previous albums. I've liked all of them to some extent.

02:23:12.240 --> 02:23:12.760
Cool.

02:23:14.220 --> 02:23:14.680
Two more.

02:23:14.810 --> 02:23:17.660
The new A Swarm of the Sun album, The Woods.

02:23:18.180 --> 02:23:19.740
It's Swedish post-metal.

02:23:20.250 --> 02:23:20.860
Their third album.

02:23:22.520 --> 02:23:25.240
And the last one is really two.

02:23:25.740 --> 02:23:27.520
And Markisan already mentioned it.

02:23:27.540 --> 02:23:32.620
Valdez, Storm Borrower, and Flameless.

02:23:34.800 --> 02:23:35.380
That's all I got.

02:23:36.680 --> 02:23:39.020
I forgot to mention this earlier.

02:23:39.050 --> 02:23:40.620
Did anybody have honorable mentions?

02:23:40.720 --> 02:24:10.660
because I have some from our lists. Well, I would have to say Trypticon, obviously, no. And Cattle Decapitation, since I forgot that one. And again, really dug that. Actually, the last two Cattle Decapitation records are totally worth people's time. So I would expect something cool from them this year. Yeah, I mean, I had Blood Incantation, Tomb Mold, Spirited Drift, InterArma, King Diamond, Gate Creeper for sure, Tom Mendoza.

02:24:10.720 --> 02:24:40.460
I mentioned that one. Carcass for sure. Astronoid. I kind of dig that Astronoid, that first album. So I think those were, that's what I have so far. I'll jump in on the Inter-Arma too. I sure love that last one. Yeah, I had Inter-Arma, Yellow Eyes, New Obsicquia, and Elv-80. For me, again, some bands we've played with before, and you know, they're Possessa, like a doom and roll band.

02:24:40.720 --> 02:25:10.420
London that we played with before. So looking forward to hearing that. Under Dark, like a shoegazy black metal band. Ithaca, who are a metalcore band who just released a couple of singles in their albums out the next couple of weeks. And then finally, probably not to see the metal Baroness, the Baroness album. Oh yeah, that's right. Which I think is coming out this year. It is coming out this year. In fact, I think it's earlier than later.

02:25:14.139 --> 02:25:40.080
I thought we did that once then. George, did you have a bet on that? I don't remember what I said. I don't. Yeah. Anybody else? Honourables, John? I think we mentioned all of them already. I had a few. Flesh God Apocalypse is apparently having a new album out. I'm curious what that's going to be like.

02:25:40.720 --> 02:26:10.680
They're working with a choir and an orchestra, which could make it even bigger and better than the last one. However, they have a new singer and somebody else. Yeah, I forgot about that. It's not a new singer. I think one of the other guys stepped up to sing. Yeah, started singing the keyboard player or something. Also, a new Dark Throne album this year, The Candlemas, and already mentioned by Matt, really looking forward to see what

02:26:10.720 --> 02:26:12.280
is doing on the new obsequia album.

02:26:12.980 --> 02:26:13.100
So.

02:26:14.280 --> 02:26:14.440
Cool.

02:26:14.760 --> 02:26:15.260
All right.

02:26:17.160 --> 02:26:17.380
Wow.

02:26:17.600 --> 02:26:18.800
It's not even three hours yet.

02:26:18.840 --> 02:26:19.720
And here we are at the end.

02:26:20.880 --> 02:26:21.220
Nice job.

02:26:23.080 --> 02:26:23.900
I'm impressed, gentlemen.

02:26:24.480 --> 02:26:25.020
I am too.

02:26:25.300 --> 02:26:26.320
We tried hard.

02:26:28.159 --> 02:26:32.560
I'm sure we're all going to say it, but it's really, we're really grateful that you

02:26:32.600 --> 02:26:33.480
came on, Tommy.

02:26:34.359 --> 02:26:37.960
And, you know, and your record really is great, dude.

02:26:38.320 --> 02:26:40.260
The new one is fucking off the charts.

02:26:40.660 --> 02:27:10.640
It was definitely on my list. I had to make sure it was in the top 10 because it deserved to be there. So I'd be really looking forward to the next one and we appreciate your time, buddy. Yeah, Tom, thanks for coming on. Always a pleasure. Everyone out there needs to head over to Bandcamp right now and pick up And All Will Be Desolation. And, you know, the other stuff too. Yeah, cheers. Thanks for asking back on. It's been a good laugh. And thanks for the support and I really appreciate it. It's a bit weird still that, you know, we're a

02:27:10.680 --> 02:27:40.640
I've only played 50 odd shows and I get to talk to people in the States about how good the album is so it's a bit surreal still but I really appreciate it thank you very much. Thank you Tom I just want to say obviously I missed the interview with you but obviously I'm a big fan it was on my year end list and next time I come to UK I promise I'll give you more heads up so we can get together and have a pint. Or just get an earlier fucking flight well Jesus. Well I did I got a

02:27:40.660 --> 02:28:10.540
I got a flight on Sunday night. Yeah, I know. All day Monday. You got to get him to Atlas, man. We need all father in the state. Yeah, sponsor the trip. You do that, right? You're always paying for stuff out of pocket, right? Yeah, sure, yeah. Well, I do pay a lot of stuff out of pocket. However, flights from the UK. However, Walt, come on, Will. You said you were a fan for GoldSug. That's my truck now. I am a fan. My wallet.

02:28:10.660 --> 02:28:40.640
It's not. Only when it comes to purchasing on Baron Camp. Yeah, yeah. Cheers. But if you do come over the States, for some reason, you come over the States and you tour the East Coast, play Atlas, unlimited free beer, 100% the door, we take no money from you, and we will make sure you have great sound. Cool. Keep that in mind. Cheers, man. We will feed you, we will give you unlimited free

02:28:40.660 --> 02:29:06.000
We will give you 100% of the door money and we won't take a cut of your merch or anything. And you can stay with Will. You can stay at my house. And we will clothe you. Keep up in the pot, Will. And I'll make you breakfast. All right, let's wrap this up. Yep, all right. Until next time, we remain the Metalheads Podcast.
