00:00:28.900 --> 00:00:30.180
You must listen.

00:00:31.600 --> 00:00:32.580
You must listen.

00:00:36.160 --> 00:00:40.000
Now, here is the podcast, Metalheads Podcast.

00:00:41.120 --> 00:00:43.740
Hello and welcome to the Metalheads Podcast. My name is George.

00:00:44.280 --> 00:00:45.040
This is Jay.

00:00:45.740 --> 00:00:46.300
This is John.

00:00:46.840 --> 00:00:47.800
This is Markisan.

00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:53.320
All right. So today we are joined by Sean Myers of the band Gates to the Morning.

00:00:53.620 --> 00:00:54.240
How you doing, Sean?

00:00:54.240 --> 00:01:24.220
Good. Thanks for having me guys. Doing good. Yeah. Welcome. So if you're not familiar with this band, this is I believe your labor of love. Is it not the band? That's exactly right. And, you know, I'm a working musician. So I do a lot of, you know, a lot of teaching and then a lot of, you know, jazz and blues gigs, which I love. But it was kind of just like, you know, doing a lot of music that's, you know, I don't want to say it is work, you know, I don't want to make it sound like it's

00:01:24.260 --> 00:01:31.340
a bad job or anything, but I needed something that was an outlet for me. So this is, yeah, this is my labor of love.

00:01:31.500 --> 00:01:35.320
So why don't you tell everyone about this band of yours, Gates to the Morning?

00:01:36.780 --> 00:01:51.960
So we, well, when I say we, I started out about, I think it was 2008. It was right after I got out of high school, which was around 2008, 2009. And I had a home studio set up and I was, you know, I was getting okay at it.

00:01:52.000 --> 00:02:21.940
I was getting pretty good with learning how to do all that stuff. So I said, I'm going to record my own black metal project. So I thought it was kind of going to be in the second wave kind of symphonic black metal. I love Demo Borgir, I love Emperor, I love Enslaved, Arturus, all those type of bands. I want to play black metal with keyboards in it. So I got halfway through the recording process and I still to this day don't know what happened, but all the files,

00:02:23.640 --> 00:02:26.020
And I was about halfway through it.

00:02:26.120 --> 00:02:26.680
Oh, that sucks.

00:02:27.500 --> 00:02:28.140
Yeah, yeah.

00:02:28.980 --> 00:02:33.540
So and then at that time, I was about to go into school for jazz, and I was not very good at jazz.

00:02:33.690 --> 00:02:38.900
So I felt like, you know what, this thing, you know, crapped out halfway through.

00:02:39.110 --> 00:02:40.580
I don't have time to restart it.

00:02:41.140 --> 00:02:44.040
So it just never actualized itself.

00:02:45.520 --> 00:02:47.820
So I kind of just forgot about it, to be honest with you.

00:02:47.830 --> 00:02:50.020
And I just remember the name Gates of the Morning.

00:02:50.200 --> 00:02:51.840
That's about the only thing I could remember from it.

00:02:51.880 --> 00:03:21.840
And a couple of riffs, which I actually... So then in 2016, towards the end of 2016, I just started writing riffs kind of by accident. And I wrote one riff, which was actually the last track on the album, Return to Earth. And I said, you know what? I really like this. I'm going to record this. I don't know what's going to come of it, but I'm going to record this. And then a couple weeks later, I had the day off and I was just... All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I put a camera on.

00:03:21.880 --> 00:03:51.860
because I knew something was happening and I just recorded myself and I must have got half the material for the album in that one day just a total like burst of creativity which is really I was like took advantage of it and so what I decided to do from there on out anytime I picked up a guitar or any instrument really piano I would make sure I recorded it no matter what it didn't matter if I was just messing around for five minutes I would record it so I've been so that's how I built up all the material and then brought it into the studio

00:03:51.880 --> 00:04:20.720
I had some friends help me out with it. I didn't think it would be anything more than a studio project. I didn't even think I was going to sing on it, though it was going to be instrumental. I had never sang before in my life except in college choir class where I basically lip-synced everything. I faked my way through it. It kind of just built from there. Then the guys told me, they're my good friends who played on the record, and they said, yeah, they expressed interest in playing it live, which I didn't.

00:04:20.940 --> 00:04:50.700
I thought that would be too much work. I didn't bank on that happening. So then I just kind of, then I started taking it a little more seriously as we went through the recording process. I was liking the way things sounded and then they expressed interest to play it live. So it just kind of blew up from there. Sean, I hope that you've invested in significant backup capabilities since the files. I literally missed Amazon. You lost earlier. I just got a new, a second backup hard drive because I've, now I have all the material.

00:04:50.920 --> 00:05:20.900
Good job. So yeah, it literally just arrived at the door. So I've learned. So you mentioned initially recording at home, but then you mentioned going into the studio. And I was just your studio or an actual like brick and mortar recording studio that you did the album at. So we did the album at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey, which, you know, that when I was doing my home studio stuff, that was about 10 years ago. And I was actually interning at Backroom Studios. And through

00:05:20.920 --> 00:05:50.380
You know, losing the tracks and just realizing things. I said, you know, sound engineering is not for me. But this time I went to Backroom, the place I used to intern at, because that's actually where I rehearse with a lot of bands. I keep all my drum sets there and everything. So I knew that was going to be the place. And Kevin and Tresian, I've known him since I started interning there, and I just trusted him. He knows the music. And he's got an amazing resume. He's built up.

00:05:50.500 --> 00:06:09.760
He was the guitar tech for the Deftones. Then he was friends with the Dillinger Escape Plan guys. And then eventually he became guitar tech. And then he even played guitar in Dillinger. So he's like, I just really trusted him. I knew him well. And so that's where we went. And I just had no doubts in my mind about going there.

00:06:10.600 --> 00:06:19.200
You know, you brought up how the album started, that you started writing some instrumental pieces and it kind of morphed. I found it interesting.

00:06:19.280 --> 00:06:49.060
I read, I can't remember, you posted a few weeks ago about that, how, you know, at the first when you started, this was just supposed to be an instrumental album, and you can get that feel when you listen to it, and then you started adding vocals first with female vocals, then you decided to get in yourself. Did you ever at any point think that you'd be adding any vocals to the whole album, or did you just kind of add them where you felt you thought they wanted to go? Because you can get the sense that it is kind of a long piece of instrumental music that kind of ebbs and flows,

00:06:49.140 --> 00:06:55.560
and goes all over the place. I just found it really curious when I was listening to it this week.

00:06:56.120 --> 00:07:12.540
Yeah, I know. You're right on about that. So the first thing, I didn't even know what it was going to be like going into the studio. So Kevin asked me, he's like, so what is this project? What is it going to be? And I said, well, it's kind of like instrumental black metal pro. I threw out about 10 different labels and he's like, what the hell?

00:07:13.960 --> 00:07:42.540
And I said, well, and I might have some female vocals. And he said, oh, I know just exactly who. Before he even heard the music, he said, I know who you need to get. And that ended up being Meg Moyer. And she just like completely, it was a perfect fit. But at the time, yeah, I was like, I might do vocals. So the only thing I originally planned on doing was freezing the sundials. I knew that song. I said I was going to have vocals on that. And I was like, well, that's going to be kind of weird if only that song has vocals on it.

00:07:42.580 --> 00:08:10.040
it. So all the parts came in piecemeal. Every song that I added vocals to, I was reluctant. I was like, oh, I'm going to sing on another track, another track. But I just kind of went for it. And then the album ended up being, I think there's about, I'm going to guess half the tracks have vocals on it. But it definitely came in piecemeal as I built up courage to do it all with song by song.

00:08:10.820 --> 00:08:40.060
When you did your vocals, what did you start with first? Were you on the clean side or did you go with the harsh vocals? Which did you feel more confident getting into? That's a good question. I think we started with the cleans because it went back and forth. But I went with the cleans because I was so curious. I had never heard my voice before. So I really wanted to know what I'd sound like. You know, I had been in bands in the past where I recorded and I did do the growling vocals. So I kind of knew what I would more or less what I would say.

00:08:40.099 --> 00:09:08.839
sound like the clean vocals I was like oh man it was scary so I wanted to do those first and get those out of the way so and then I kind of alternated back and forth you go ahead and listen to those demos you're like who came in who re-recorded these when I wasn't around the other night what's that country twang it's good it's good to know that you can do the cleans before you do the harsh vocals because if you do the harsh vocals and then you're like nah I can't do the cleans never mind yeah right right exactly so well that that's interesting because

00:09:09.560 --> 00:09:38.820
You have a song on the album that I think is fairly ballsy than if you've never really sang before, which is Chapel Perilous. Yes. That's quite a long bit to be singing. It's not an acapella song, but the vocals almost dominate like an acapella on there. It's kind of chanty. Yeah. And so if you've never done clean vocals, that's fairly impressive to pull it off. And thank you. And that song was, I played a gig with a

00:09:38.840 --> 00:10:08.820
a different band, like a blues band, at this record store. And I picked up, I found a medieval Christmas album by the Boston Camerata. And, you know, I just like, you know, all my friends were like, you would buy that, you know? They're like, you're probably, and I think the cashier at the store was like, oh my God, somebody's actually buying this, you know? So, and it was actually, Chapel Perilous was really directly inspired from one of the tracks off that. It was Gabriel's Prophecy. And I showed it to a couple of friends. I was like, I'm going to do a track

00:10:08.840 --> 00:10:14.160
like this and they're like you know i think my one friend kind of was like okay i kind of get it

00:10:14.220 --> 00:10:20.400
everybody else was like oh that's gonna be weird but i love the way it came out though so i was happy with it

00:10:20.920 --> 00:10:26.100
chapel perilous that's a robert anton wilson thing a robert anton wilson guy that's yes yeah yep

00:10:26.580 --> 00:10:33.439
prometheus rising was a very uh important book for me yeah do you read the cosmic trigger stuff or

00:10:33.460 --> 00:11:03.420
I read one Cosmic Trigger and then I didn't get around to the rest and it's like still on my list to and that was from like 10 years ago but yeah I was Prometheus Rising and Cosmic Trigger came in to my life you know it's very synchronistic it was me too you know that's the only way his books come into your life that's the only way it's true I mean and that's what he's all about well it was he passed on a few years back now I ran into him a couple of times I live out here in the Bay Area

00:11:03.460 --> 00:11:07.380
Yeah. And he has a habit of anybody who approaches him of

00:11:08.660 --> 00:11:13.820
inducting them as a pope and that religious thing that fake religious thing is.

00:11:14.140 --> 00:11:15.100
Society or something like that.

00:11:15.100 --> 00:11:15.580
Yeah, exactly.

00:11:16.280 --> 00:11:16.520
Yeah.

00:11:17.200 --> 00:11:17.300
Yeah.

00:11:17.800 --> 00:11:17.900
Yeah.

00:11:19.339 --> 00:11:20.900
Do we just throw the rest of you off there?

00:11:23.040 --> 00:11:23.700
That's cool.

00:11:24.220 --> 00:11:24.700
Not at all.

00:11:25.700 --> 00:11:26.340
Do you know him, George?

00:11:26.500 --> 00:11:27.360
Do you know Robert Anton Wilson?

00:11:28.000 --> 00:11:29.400
The name sounds familiar, but I haven't read him.

00:11:30.080 --> 00:11:30.420
He's great.

00:11:30.840 --> 00:11:32.540
He's kind of the psychedelic

00:11:34.900 --> 00:11:35.960
mind traveler guy

00:11:36.400 --> 00:11:38.600
He's read a couple novels and then the Cosmic Trigger ones

00:11:38.620 --> 00:11:40.520
are like this three volume thing

00:11:40.640 --> 00:11:42.540
he's written about his own life and experience he's had

00:11:42.620 --> 00:11:44.800
and stuff's great and he writes about everything from Alistair Crowley

00:11:44.900 --> 00:11:46.620
to Timothy Leary

00:11:46.820 --> 00:11:48.660
to whatever and just finds connections

00:11:48.800 --> 00:11:50.320
and all these things and it's great

00:11:50.680 --> 00:11:52.320
he's the perfect Bay Area guy

00:11:53.540 --> 00:11:54.720
So Jay you said

00:11:54.860 --> 00:11:56.620
mind traveler is that code for

00:11:57.900 --> 00:11:58.860
LSD maybe?

00:11:59.240 --> 00:11:59.879
Oh for sure

00:11:59.880 --> 00:12:29.500
Yeah, yeah. I didn't even send it to be code. I should have just said he's an acid taker. No, as Sean, you don't know this, but I grew up in the Bay Area as well. Oh, really? So, I mean, to joke about stuff like that is almost common, you know, if you're from out that way. So. Kate and Ashbury thing, yeah. I lived three blocks away from there for years, so. Oh, really? Yeah, there you go. Yeah, they can have it. Well, it makes sense that that's an influence on that because the album,

00:12:29.600 --> 00:12:59.560
It's about a journey. It's about your journey, right? You want to talk about that a little bit, Sean? Yeah, so I mean, kind of, well, it all ties together. So around that, the time that I found the book, I mean, that's all ties together. Actually, I never even realized it until now. Yeah, I think around 17, I just kind of went through, I guess what you'd call, in layman's terms or whatever, an existential crisis. And really, things just turned totally.

00:13:00.360 --> 00:13:28.480
And I was like, whoa, what the fuck is this? And I had dealt with depression before, anxiety, things like that. But this was different. I was like, what the fuck is this? And I knew not to medicate myself for it. But although I did feel very manic or very schizo, whatever, I don't want to throw out labels. But I couldn't really put my finger on what it was. And I was like, something's strange.

00:13:28.800 --> 00:13:58.580
But I knew, you know, because I worked in a pharmacy for 11 years, a mom and pop store, and just something about, you know, I knew medication wasn't, it was something different. And then that book kind of came into my life. Actually, this band called, I still don't know how to say it, Arnie, A-A-R-N-I, the album they did, Bathos, was really great. I love it. And I was on his website, and it said, here's a book for, it's basically like a user's manual to your brain.

00:13:58.800 --> 00:14:26.740
And I thought, well, that's what I need right now. I need a user's guide to figure this out. And I kind of ran into that book and it made it actually, to most people I've showed it to, it scares the shit out of them. And to me, it made perfect sense. I was like, oh, I'm going to be okay. This is okay. But that was kind of like my initiation. There's a term for it, dark night of the soul.

00:14:28.420 --> 00:14:53.180
Crossing the Abyss, that's another track name on the album. That's like from a Kabbalistic standpoint, where it's like an ego death for lack of a better term. You know, it was like an ego death. So I felt like that was my initiation. And then I think the whole album was about my journey since then, Return to Earth. It was it turned into that whole journey of, I guess, the last 11 or 12 years now.

00:14:55.020 --> 00:14:59.280
You're talking my language, man. I'm not joking. You have no idea how. I know the

00:14:59.380 --> 00:15:04.260
Kabbalistic stuff and all that stuff, too. And then moreover, for those who don't know, the concept or the term

00:15:04.420 --> 00:15:23.720
Chapel Perilous is a Robert Anton Wilson term that it's that time when you start to make these connections and start to see things connected. And then that's when weird shit starts happening. That's when you step into Chapel Perilous where any weird. And it's much larger than this simple sentence, but where any weird thing can happen, you know. And that's great. That's good stuff to hear, man.

00:15:23.760 --> 00:15:52.020
We could talk for hours, trust me. I'll say this, I had a similar experience. Let's put it that way. It helps that, because it's hard to explain, because words don't quite, you go to a place where words don't quite sum things up. If you know if you've been through it, then it's easier to understand. This is a cheap way to say it, and this is an extremely cheap way to say it, because there are much better ways to get there.

00:15:53.780 --> 00:16:23.160
what being on acid is like to somebody. You can't do it. You'd just be like, there's not a way to describe that to somebody. You just can't. You'd be like, trust me, you're just going to have to take it because I don't have words. Yeah. So getting back to the recording, you play quite a few instruments on the album. I got it straight. You're a drumming, your guitar, keyboard, synth, vocals. How was that during the recording process to do all that work yourself and then have the musicians?

00:16:23.920 --> 00:16:51.540
I want to get to the band, but how was it working with other people that were doing some parts that you weren't actually involved in, say like the bass or lead guitar and stuff like that? Well, yeah, for me, it was a lot of fun to do all the instruments. I had never done anything except track drums in the studio before, except for my home studio that, like I said, that never actualized anyway. So it was a lot of fun to do. I was a little nervous, though. I thought, you know, I had my two buddies on call.

00:16:52.080 --> 00:17:21.600
I said, you know, I might not be able to pull these guitar parts off in the studio, so you might have to do all of them. Luckily, I was able to do the majority of the rhythm tracks, which is what I planned on. And, you know, keyboards I've always felt comfortable with. You know, I'm not a virtuoso, but I felt comfortable with them. And then singing was the big unknown, the big scary one. But so was guitar, too. But it was fun. It was exciting for me. It was exciting to do something different.

00:17:23.280 --> 00:17:51.340
As far as the guys who played on the record, I've been playing with them since I was like, you know, 13, some of those guys. So it just was the most natural thing ever. And, you know, our bass player, Dylan Jacobus, he made me nervous a few times because I had some deadlines. I wanted, you know, we released Freezing the Sundials and Return to Earth last August, those two songs. And I just wanted to get those out there. So I had something while we worked on the rest of the album. So Dylan really scared me.

00:17:51.500 --> 00:18:21.440
But this is just the way he operates. Down to the wire, I'm getting texts from him at like 4 in the morning saying, hey, what do you think of this part? I'm like, oh my god, he's up. Somehow he just gets shit done. I don't know how, I don't question him anymore. I just kind of say, tell him I need it by here and you do your thing. And then I had Mark Glazer on guitar who just, we kind of speak the same language. I really didn't have to say much to him. I just gave him the record.

00:18:21.540 --> 00:18:23.800
and he did a beautiful job.

00:18:24.380 --> 00:18:26.500
I was going to say not to cut you off there.

00:18:27.340 --> 00:18:38.040
His sound and the way he moves through an ethereal playing without getting too wanky, that's what I liked actually the most in some parts of the album.

00:18:38.740 --> 00:18:39.760
It's some of his work.

00:18:40.440 --> 00:18:50.180
And all the guys on the record, it really would not have been, I don't want to say it wouldn't have been anything without them, but it was totally incomplete without those guys.

00:18:51.100 --> 00:19:18.340
And then on keyboard, I had my buddy Anthony Gobiel, who lives in Los Angeles. So he did about half the tracks. I kind of just sent him over the tracks and said, here, do what you can. And I didn't really explain anything. I was ready to chart everything out, map everything out, chord charts, everything. And he's like, no, no, no, I'll just ear it out. And he knew what to play, too. And, you know, it was just so it was super easy working with those guys because we have such history.

00:19:21.080 --> 00:19:51.060
I also played with for a long time who did the acoustic stuff and classical guitar and those parts were just perfect for him and then we had Aiden McAvoy who did the harp on Chapel Perilous and funny enough you know I just had her do I always thought of her as a harp player and then when I put out an ad I said we need a live keyboardist she was the first person to get back to me I said shit you know I didn't even think about that you play keyboard don't you so working with everybody was super easy and it just

00:19:51.080 --> 00:20:20.920
would not be even close to the same thing without them. So have you been playing shows with these guys? Yeah, we just we had a really great run of shows at the beginning of the month in July. So we played with just to name a few bands and Ghostbound was the first night and Gyre. Those guys were great. And they really we just fit well on stage together. It was a great night. We played at St. Vitus in Brooklyn. And then we did a few dates with Inephrins, which was awesome.

00:20:21.080 --> 00:20:48.960
Very cool. Which featured a lot of friends in Winfair. But Winfair is spelled W-I-N-D-F-A-E-R-E-R. Or something like that. I like that. E-I-E-I-O. We did two in Brooklyn. One in Philadelphia and one in Jersey. And it was awesome. It was really great. How was it touring with Jordy?

00:20:51.100 --> 00:21:20.960
We stayed at my place for a few days. We got an Airbnb together. We stayed up all night, all of us in Philadelphia. Pissed off the Airbnb host a little bit, but it was okay. Wait, let me stop you there. Was that Airbnb on the Delaware River? Was it a boat? No, it's not. Why? Did you own an Airbnb there? No, no, no. We were out there last year, I guess it was, in April, and we stayed in a houseboat. There was a houseboat that's an Airbnb, so we stayed in this house. A yacht.

00:21:21.080 --> 00:21:49.020
Yeah, we went to Decibel Fest. Jay and John BT and Matt, they had a boat and we ended up on the boat a few times, maybe after a few beers. I never got to that boat. There's a couple pissed off Airbnb hosts in Philadelphia. So for anyone who doesn't know, Jordy is the creative mind behind an Ephraim's.

00:21:51.080 --> 00:22:20.160
And I like the Neframs, especially his or whatever, the band's last album a lot. But he didn't do a full band set, did he? He was just him on his guitar with some backing tracks, right? Right. And he still made it sound great. It still sounded like you had the live atmosphere, but it was just him. And it's funny because me and John Lopez, one of the guitarists on the record, a few months back were listening to vinyls for about,

00:22:20.880 --> 00:22:50.340
five, six hours at his place. And he was, I'm kind of out of touch with a lot of these bands. And he showed me, he said, check this band out. You're going to love them. We listened to the whole album. I was like, wow, they're great. Fantastic. And then a couple months later, he messages us out of nowhere. And I'm like, dude, isn't this that band that we listened to that night? And, you know, and then he's, you know, he's like, yeah, that's the band. So it was just very weird. I didn't think we'd ever play together because I thought he was just a one man. You know, I didn't think, I never thought this band was going to be a band.

00:22:50.380 --> 00:23:20.120
from Minnesota or Minneapolis was going to come ask us to tour with him. I guess I was at Chapel Perilous, dude. There you go. Synchronicities were off the wall. It was very cool to see that. We loved having him. It was awesome. That's great because I believe Jordy's just like you. It's very DIY for him, I think, also, isn't it? It is. It was cool.

00:23:20.260 --> 00:23:50.160
to see a little bit of myself in him and see what I'm doing and see what he's doing. And it was, yeah, I saw myself in him a lot, which is really cool. How were those shows attended? They were good. I mean, in our debut, you know, it was a big, like, we made a big deal out of it. So it was well attended. You know, our debut was on a Monday night in Brooklyn and we brought, we brought a really good crowd. It was like a little bit of a reunion. I just, I saw friends that hadn't seen in so long. I was overwhelmed.

00:23:50.280 --> 00:24:20.060
by the response to our first night. It was really cool. And then they were well attended. Philadelphia is always, we used to play in a prog band called Sleep Cascade. And we would play down in Philadelphia. And it'd always be a good time. I mean, it was super enthusiastic. Yeah, Philadelphia is like a prog capital of the country. But it's also just a great place to go for shows. Even though I live down in Northern Virginia, I used to live up in that area for a little while. And I still go up for shows all the time.

00:24:20.280 --> 00:24:50.240
I believe it's yeah the enthusiasm is infectious there it really is and then Jersey was like our hometown so that that was well attended to because we just brought out friends and family to that one so I think Jersey might be infectious as well but for different reasons depends on what part of that's low-hanging fruit there's a knock at the door oh it's overkill they're here to kick my ass I hope the metal heads from Jersey

00:24:50.260 --> 00:25:17.460
We don't make up most of our audience charge. I'm just fooling with you. We'll know when all those accounts on SoundCloud are like for, what, 30 minutes and they all just stop? We're going to get a message from Jon Bon Jovi. For some reason, Jon Bon Jovi keeps showing up on my Facebook feed and is driving me fucking nuts. He's boosting his posts or something like that. You know what? I fucking dare him to send us something. Fuck him.

00:25:20.280 --> 00:25:47.800
Not if it was Springsteen. That would be something else. Springsteen is a much better representative for our state than Bon Jovi, in my opinion. How about Southside Johnny? I mean, maybe that one might be better. Southside Johnny, yeah. Name rings a bell, but somehow I don't know that. It's like a way low end Bruce Springsteen type. Yeah, it's like Bruce opened for him once and that was it. Yeah, and then they've always opened for Bruce after that.

00:25:50.260 --> 00:26:20.080
Who did the album artwork? So this guy, Jesper Alvmark. I was struggling finding the artwork. And, you know, I had a I had a picture wasn't too crazy about it. And Mark, you know, Mark laser was like, dude, you can't use kids like you got to use something that really fits the aesthetic. But I was frustrated because I couldn't find anything. And then I was looking through my iPhoto gallery and I found that picture. I don't know. I must have found it on the Internet one night.

00:26:20.260 --> 00:26:50.240
and really liked it and saved it and just didn't think anything of it. And I looked at it and I said, holy shit, you know, the album was already named Return to Earth. And then there's a lot of themes. There's a winter kind of theme going on and then rekindled and she's decorated in fire. So there's just a lot. And she's kind of, you know, returning to Earth. Yeah, naked. Yeah. And that's I mean, that's how you that's how you do it. Right. Yeah. Not going to burn clothes. So I said, holy shit, this this just really

00:27:14.360 --> 00:27:17.500
It's pretty cool.

00:27:17.640 --> 00:27:47.600
It catches the eye, the contrast between the top half and the bottom half. And, you know, naked. It does. Yeah, it boots. But it does fit the aesthetic, as you say. I mean, both thematically, but also your production is so hypercrisp, I think, in the best kind of way. That's a compliment, by the way. And there's something hypercrisp about that image as well. I don't know. It really is. It's the perfect cover for your record. Thank you. I like it quite a bit. Even though Angry Metal Guy trashed it.

00:27:47.640 --> 00:28:17.520
I know, you know, it's funny. I thought they were going to hate the music, but say, oh, I love the artwork. And I was so let down by the music. But it was the other way around. I swear. And he's like, the music's not bad, but that artwork is atrocious. And I was like, really? You know, like, and you know that I could see, you know, I get it. I get it. You know, it's not for everybody, but it's pretty. But I'll be honest, they were treating that like that was the original album cover for smell the glove from a spinal town. You know, if anyone remembers, you know,

00:28:20.400 --> 00:28:47.540
She describes it to him as a woman on her knees. Greased, naked, with a chain around her neck. Yeah. Nobody's anybody until they've been trashed by Angry Metal Guy. That's true, you know. Yeah. Believe that on this podcast. That's good presto for you, isn't it still? It doesn't matter. It was. Yeah, it really was. And I saw between Greg, I hope,

00:28:47.640 --> 00:29:17.620
I don't say his last name wrong Greg Canelty from Metal Injection he really hooked us up and put us on Metal Injection streamed the album and from Angry Metal Guy and Metal Injection I saw the stats on I think it was Dan Capney huge spikes from both both those things so yeah the Angry Metal Guy thing though like when they trash it and I'm serious about this I know you guys have something similar and it could be it doesn't have to be that website but I've read reviews that were there like where they kind of trash something and I'm like god it sounds like I'm gonna fucking love this you know what I mean like just

00:29:17.660 --> 00:29:47.580
by the nature in which they trash it. You know what I mean? Yeah, they're like, I don't like it for this reason. I'm like, well, that sounds like something I would love. That's the problem with reviews. They're so subjective to each person that you can't really take anything with it. You have to take everything with a grain of salt because you can't believe anything because this person could be polar opposite of what you like. I really only use reviews to know that an album exists and then I go,

00:29:49.559 --> 00:30:16.859
I think everybody wants to jump to the score before they read the description and you know it's like you know the review for me is just a little it like you said it makes me aware that it exists and then I go check it out but I did you like the review because I thought there was a lot of complimentary parts to it though yeah yeah I did yeah I mean I would have been if they gave it a 0.5 rating I would have said thank you for reviewing it you know and actually probably would have got us more views if they give a 0.5 I don't know

00:30:19.020 --> 00:30:46.820
Not everybody's Machine Head who can get a shrug. Of course, that was Decibel, not Angry Metal Guy. It's still the best review ever. It really is. Did you hear about that? No, I didn't know. Somebody gave Machine Head a review. Yeah, Decibel Magazine in their review section, the score for the last Machine Head album was a guy shrugging. Wow. Well, you know, John, that calls to mind the SF Gate thing, or the SF Chronicles.

00:30:47.180 --> 00:31:16.500
how they do it with the guy sitting in the chair, which is... Oh, Jay, you know, just real quick. So they have this thing we used to call the pink section. It was in the Sunday paper, and it was like, what, 80 or 90 pages of just entertainment for the week in the Bay Area? And that's what they used to do. You have the guy sitting in a movie theater, and depending on how he was sitting in his seat watching the movie, it was like that. Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. They still do it, and so sometimes they sue him up at attention, and sometimes he's laying back, and that's their rating. And then the worst rating is the chair is empty.

00:31:16.580 --> 00:31:46.120
He's gone. Or if it's the best rating, he's jumping up and down out of the chair. It was Sunday was just like the day to see what concerts were coming. And so, yeah, I'm glad you mentioned that, Jay. I forgot about that. They still do it. It's just not as relevant anymore because the Internet gets to you first. But so, Sean, just getting back real quick to Angry Metal Guy. Don't lie about this. Tell the truth. When you found out that you guys were on there, did you skip down to the bottom just to read the comments? Because that is without question the best part of Angry Metal Guy.

00:31:46.620 --> 00:32:16.500
I'm watching people go apeshit in the comments section. Yeah, you know what? And it was, they were actually pretty kind in the comments section. I was like, oh, wow, you know. Yeah, no, I definitely skipped down. I think I checked this. You know, I did what I just said not to do. I checked the score. Which everyone does. It's your record. You can do that. Yeah, I think I saw it and I was like, oh, man, they reviewed it, which I was just happy about just to get the coverage. I really was. Whatever they wrote was kind of like, hey, it's all good.

00:32:17.360 --> 00:32:46.500
But I did read the comment sections, and they were fairly, they were pretty nice about it, actually. Some of them are just brutal. I mean, you think the review is rough, and you get to the comments, you're like, I should have never clicked one extra. Yeah, I mean, I can imagine that could, you know, it's, you kind of have, like you said, take everything with a grain of salt and, you know, just be happy for the coverage. So, yeah. So, you know, we always ask people this release, I always do, and one, well, one,

00:32:47.120 --> 00:33:16.200
What are some of your primary, like, maybe bands you like right now or some of the bands that you feel influence you? I mean, we're interested in all genres that you're listening to, but also, of course, particularly metal stuff. Right, right. Well, right now, what I've been listening to lately, at least, is two things. It's been all the bands that we've been compared to in reviews, which I haven't heard of most of them, actually, which is kind of cool. There's one of them, Bon Jovi. No.

00:33:18.800 --> 00:33:42.820
And you know what? That's okay. You're all just living on a prayer. You give black metal a bad name. So I've been listening to, they compared us to Alsest a lot. And I remember them from years back and I remember liking them. So I finally actually really dug into their discography because I, you know, we kept getting compared to them.

00:33:46.580 --> 00:34:16.540
I'm saying that right or not. They're British so the E at the end gets an R. Yeah well there you go so now I know but they're words that go unspoken D's that go undone that that might be one of my favorite albums ever and I never had heard of them until we got reviewed by a website cult metal flicks I think gave us the Akrakaki comparison and then so I've been listening to a lot of bands that we've been compared to which is cool it's opened my mind

00:34:16.580 --> 00:34:45.040
to a lot of different stuff. And I'm kind of like, yeah, we do. Yeah, they are an influence, even though I didn't know it, you know. So, you know, before we go forward, just because of what you've just mentioned, I wanted to tell the guys, I'm not sure what you see when you look at his Bandcamp page, when you look at the Gates of the Morning Bandcamp page. But I see if you like this, you may also like Wilderun, Throssenblatt, and Perihelion Ship. All three are listed there. John, did you write that?

00:34:46.960 --> 00:35:16.040
Well, those are all bands we've had on the pod and all bands that we like. Possibly George Wad was drinking the other night, yes. No, that's the automatic generator thing there. So that's not John's doing it. Oh, that's great. Oh, I see. I thought you meant in the comment section. No, no, no. It's just if you scroll all the way down on any given, they'll say, yeah. Well, I'll have to check that out because I haven't heard any of those three bands, actually. Oh, you'd like all three of them, dude. Yeah, see, that's the thing. I'm a little,

00:35:16.560 --> 00:35:46.540
I'm definitely out of the loop when it comes to metal and I have my friends get me you know they I go to my friends really to get me back into some of this stuff and you know I studied jazz for a while and I think that I really put my head down and kind of put the blinders on a little bit when it came to metal I think I just listened to what I you know the stuff I knew and I wasn't looking for new stuff now I'm looking all over the place and it's cool so I've been listening to bands we've been compared to and then I've also been listening to bands that

00:35:46.560 --> 00:35:50.500
we played with or we toured with or that we're going to tour with.

00:35:51.330 --> 00:35:54.220
Because we have some cool stuff coming up in the fall.

00:35:54.760 --> 00:35:56.120
Some bands that we might play with.

00:35:56.840 --> 00:36:01.980
But I've been listening to a lot of Inephrines and guys in Ghostbound have their record.

00:36:03.600 --> 00:36:04.240
Geez, what else?

00:36:04.940 --> 00:36:07.460
Then I go back, I've been listening to, I love X-Toll.

00:36:07.960 --> 00:36:08.960
They're one of my favorite bands.

00:36:11.540 --> 00:36:13.480
Opeth, I almost make jokes about it.

00:36:13.480 --> 00:36:14.880
Like, Opeth? Oh, I've never heard of him.

00:36:18.680 --> 00:36:20.060
Yeah, exactly.

00:36:20.640 --> 00:36:22.440
Their new one's getting ready to come out pretty soon.

00:36:22.920 --> 00:36:27.160
Yeah, I'm excited for that. I like what I heard so far. So I'm excited for that.

00:36:27.420 --> 00:36:34.060
Just a quick sidebar. The way that Sean and I started talking was I was one of the early pre-orders.

00:36:34.720 --> 00:36:34.860
Yeah.

00:36:34.980 --> 00:36:38.000
And he sent me an email and said, hey, man, I really want to thank you for buying the album.

00:36:38.320 --> 00:37:07.240
By the way, is your email address any kind of reference to the song from Opeth? And what, 20-some emails later? Cool stuff pops up from there all the time. Oops, that's the wrong one. That was good, though. Yeah. It was supposed to be... Sorry, that was a little loud. Hey, so you brought up Opeth. Just real quick, getting back to Angry Metal Guy. How did you feel about the fact that they kind of referenced Black Immortal Rose with you guys? Oh, yeah.

00:37:08.100 --> 00:37:12.680
I read that I was just like okay fuck this is this is what I want to hear yeah you know in that

00:37:12.940 --> 00:37:17.120
review was really cool I loved it and it's good to hear I like hearing what people have to say

00:37:17.600 --> 00:37:23.260
um you know I don't take things too seriously or too personally but that was really cool to you know

00:37:23.440 --> 00:37:28.500
morning rise is uh still one of my favorite records and black rose immortal being like what 20 20

00:37:28.580 --> 00:37:35.119
minutes long or something like that yeah anyone who's ever been to not much anymore but for the

00:37:35.320 --> 00:38:04.660
In previous years, and I've been to more than a fair share of Opus shows, that is the one song that gets screamed out by the dude who's the drunkest in the back the whole fucking night. And for that reason, they'll never fucking play it, dude. I've seen them play it. I believe I've seen them play it, actually. Have they done it? Yeah, they did it. Yeah, on one tour, they did it. It was either that or it was maybe Advent. They said it was Advent. I think it was Advent.

00:38:05.140 --> 00:38:33.340
Yeah, maybe that's what it was. I think the only amount of time they've spent playing it in the US was like about 15 seconds during like a little jam session. Yeah, where Mike was fucking with people. Yeah, right. Just for your information, that drunk dude in the back is John. I thought you were going to say it was you, Marcus. I swear to God, I think it'd be like, that's me. Let's get it straight, Marcus. I'm the drunk guy in the front yelling it, not in the back.

00:38:35.120 --> 00:39:05.100
The Trypticon set at Decibel then? Had to bring it up again. No, no. I love TR to death. No, actually, Sean, a quick story. So I, Trypticon, when they played, I had no idea that Hannes Grossman was playing drums for them at the time. I'm a huge fan. I'm a former drummer myself. I don't play anymore because I don't have a drum set anymore. And at the end of the show, everyone seemed to want to point out the fact, hey, did you see

00:39:07.500 --> 00:39:10.140
But with that said, I was spending time with my friend

00:39:11.980 --> 00:39:13.980
who had a good time at the festival. Let's put it that way.

00:39:14.180 --> 00:39:16.060
Yeah, you were babysitting.

00:39:17.060 --> 00:39:19.240
Well, and he's our metal butler.

00:39:20.000 --> 00:39:20.900
Metal heads butler.

00:39:21.100 --> 00:39:24.820
Barkasad aptly named him for us.

00:39:25.360 --> 00:39:25.720
Right.

00:39:27.640 --> 00:39:30.720
Was he in the tent, the safe zone tent or something like that?

00:39:30.780 --> 00:39:31.760
You know, did they have at festivals?

00:39:32.740 --> 00:39:35.100
No, he was just...

00:39:35.100 --> 00:39:36.920
I was the safe zone tent.

00:39:37.140 --> 00:39:37.420
You were.

00:39:39.480 --> 00:39:45.940
Well, I love, you know, what's funny about Hans Grossman, I, you know, I teach a lot of students and that's my primary source of income.

00:39:46.780 --> 00:39:53.920
And I show them, it doesn't matter what style of music they're playing, because the first thing I see in drummers when I'm teaching, they're very tense.

00:39:54.100 --> 00:39:59.160
And sometimes you think to get faster or to play stronger, you have to, you know, tighten up and everything.

00:39:59.740 --> 00:40:01.240
And I say, I use Hans Grossman.

00:40:01.740 --> 00:40:31.560
He does a playthrough of, it might be one of his own tunes that he wrote, because he writes his own music. And I'm like, look at this guy. And he's like, you know, he's blazing fast. And look how relaxed he is. So it's kind of funny. I use him all the time in my lessons. I'm like, check this guy out. This is what you want to be like when you're trying to play. Yeah. Tension does not equal speed. That's just how there is to it. That's an important lesson. Yeah, exactly. You should also tell them, look at his snare drum. He said the little wear out spot on the snare.

00:40:31.740 --> 00:41:01.700
He's hitting the same spot every single time. Oh, he's precise. Yeah. He's awesome. He's very fun to watch. Yeah. Yeah. So what got you into playing music in the first place? And I'm assuming your first instrument was drums? That's right. Yeah. I was primarily a drummer. I mean, I didn't consider myself a guitarist until I went to record this record. I'll just pick it up. You know, how hard can it be? Even then, I'm still like, you know, on some days, you know, if I, if I don't pick it up, I'm going to be a guitarist.

00:41:01.720 --> 00:41:31.140
of the guitar for a month or two, it's rough. I'm currently getting back. I have to cycle through and I have to also be working on my voice a lot. It's like how much time do I have to allocate to each instrument. It's a little cyclical. Right now I'm working a lot on my voice. Right now I have a cold so it doesn't sound good. The first instrument I picked up was drums and that was my baby.

00:41:31.740 --> 00:42:00.600
was like my thing. How old were you? So I was about 10 when they did it through the school system, but I only had a snare drum and a pad. So was this like the school band kind of thing? Yeah, we weren't even in a band. It was just like really just lessons through kind of like group lessons in the school. It was very, you know, I don't know what the funding was like for that program, but it was good because, you know, I stuck with it for two years and then I started, I was disciplined with it.

00:42:00.780 --> 00:42:30.400
And then my parents saw me kind of fall off with it. And I was like, well, you know, I've been playing this damn pad for two years. I want a drum set. I'm like, did I earn it yet? You know, so they ended up getting me a drum set for Christmas when I was about 12. So I started playing drum set when I was 12. And it just became, you know, I was still a big sports fan. But at that time, I was really into sports. And then I started to, my interest started to transition and drums just became my,

00:42:30.440 --> 00:42:31.680
everything, really.

00:42:32.820 --> 00:42:36.120
By the way, I couldn't help but notice that Islanders panning up behind your head there.

00:42:36.120 --> 00:42:36.900
We can talk about that later.

00:42:37.140 --> 00:42:37.840
Yes, I know.

00:42:37.940 --> 00:42:40.040
It should be sacrilegious because I'm from Jersey.

00:42:40.860 --> 00:42:45.040
But I'm a Jets-Mets fan, and the Islanders fit right into that scheme.

00:42:45.700 --> 00:42:47.460
So, yeah, I support the Devils.

00:42:47.700 --> 00:42:49.300
I should be a Devils fan.

00:42:49.320 --> 00:42:49.900
I'm from Jersey.

00:42:50.140 --> 00:42:51.460
But I love the Islanders.

00:42:51.940 --> 00:42:52.320
Hold on.

00:42:52.320 --> 00:42:52.700
So tell me.

00:42:52.780 --> 00:42:54.500
You just said you're Jets-Mets fan, too.

00:42:54.680 --> 00:42:57.020
Is that literally – do you have to follow that way?

00:42:57.240 --> 00:43:26.640
because if you're Yankees, then you're a Rangers fan. I think it usually groups up. I bet it does. You don't have to. You definitely don't have to. It's just it was passed down to me. I had no choice. Trust me. I know the feeling. I grew up. I'm a homer. I live in D.C. now for the area for 25 years. And I could give a well to appease George. I don't mind the Capitals. Better not. But I'm all.

00:43:27.260 --> 00:43:56.600
San Francisco teams where I grew up. Oh, really? All San Francisco. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I let Jay have the A's, him and the other 14 people that go to games. But I just found out the other day that you guys have my guy's grandson. You got Mikey Stremski. Oh, yes. Yeah. Oh, really? Oh, wow. You're a Red Sox fan? Yeah. I mean, I've never lived in the area, but ever since the 80s, when Carter Stremski was originally playing, he was my favorite player as a kid.

00:43:57.260 --> 00:44:26.580
And based on that and the curse, you just kind of got to get behind a team like that. Because I grew up in Michigan where we had the Tigers. We won in 84 and then that was about it. I know they won last year and everything. They're sucking wind right now, dude. I didn't have a choice in what sports teams you root for. I really didn't. I picked the Islanders because I feel like I needed to exercise my own choice. But then, I don't know. I didn't do myself any favors there either.

00:44:26.640 --> 00:44:27.800
They're pretty good this year.

00:44:28.660 --> 00:44:31.740
Are they the ones who moved to Brooklyn? Are they in Brooklyn now?

00:44:32.320 --> 00:44:32.740
Who was that?

00:44:32.880 --> 00:44:34.840
They're in between. They're in limbo right now.

00:44:35.380 --> 00:44:35.640
Okay.

00:44:35.920 --> 00:44:40.020
Yeah, they're kind of weird. But they're really going to be back in Long Island. That's really where they belong.

00:44:40.860 --> 00:44:43.780
That did look like a really shitty old stadium, too, by the way.

00:44:44.040 --> 00:44:44.800
Or arena.

00:44:45.200 --> 00:44:46.800
It's a great Nassau Coliseum.

00:44:46.820 --> 00:44:47.640
Nassau Coliseum, yeah.

00:44:47.700 --> 00:44:52.820
It's the best place to go see a hockey game. I highly recommend it. They might play a few games this year out there.

00:44:52.880 --> 00:45:20.900
And it's not a state-of-the-art, but you are, if you're in the last row, you are right on top of the ice. Really a great place to see a hockey. Hey, I sympathize, meaning they call it the Coliseum where the A's play the mausoleum, but I love it. It's my favorite play. I love going there. Oh, wow. Yeah, that's right. That might be cool for you, but do you have a gigantic shark that comes out on the ice and the players come out of the mound? That's true. And that's my hockey team. I'm a shark's guy, yeah.

00:45:22.880 --> 00:45:52.840
They're always pretty competitive, the shark. Yeah. Yeah. We lost Joe Pavelski this year, though. Yeah. I like real sharks. Yeah. Shark Week. Shark Week. So that's funny you should say, Marcus, because the town I grew up in is a very big surf. I mean, one of the biggest surfing towns in the country. And I'm absolutely petrified of them because all my buddies used to surf out in that water. And there's great whites out there all the time. Somebody, somebody, there was a great white out there the other day that somebody accidentally caught.

00:45:56.080 --> 00:46:22.860
They caught it. They pushed it away. It was on the thing they caught. They caught something else and he rode it all the way in. They're huge out there. I like sharks too, but on television. Yes, that's where I like them. When I go to the beach, I don't go in past like knees. Even then, I'm looking around for the little guys. I don't want to be that guy that says, we need a bigger boat. I don't want to be the guy who's

00:46:22.900 --> 00:46:52.800
He's legless. Yeah. Robert Shaw, Jaws. Yeah. His telling of when he was in the water, what was that? In Indianapolis? Oh, yeah, yeah, where he goes in at 200 tournament. Yeah. That made me read up on that, man. That was just terrifying. Well, one of my favorite scenes ever is in any movie is when they start singing, right? Show me the way to go home. Yeah. I love that scene. That's something.

00:46:52.880 --> 00:46:55.320
about that. I love that movie.

00:46:55.960 --> 00:46:57.460
Do you remember the song they're singing right before that?

00:46:57.540 --> 00:46:59.320
Because that song often goes through my head

00:46:59.340 --> 00:47:01.640
about the Spanish ladies.

00:47:02.320 --> 00:47:03.160
Or he sings it a lot.

00:47:03.540 --> 00:47:04.080
That's right.

00:47:04.120 --> 00:47:04.540
That's right.

00:47:04.680 --> 00:47:05.640
Yeah, that's right.

00:47:05.820 --> 00:47:07.040
The ladies of Spain.

00:47:07.780 --> 00:47:09.780
Yeah, but I love that Show Me Where to Go Home thing.

00:47:10.200 --> 00:47:10.920
That's good stuff.

00:47:12.460 --> 00:47:13.060
Go ahead, Jerry.

00:47:13.100 --> 00:47:14.960
I was going to say, we're not off track at all.

00:47:16.720 --> 00:47:19.020
So we're par for every episode there.

00:47:20.060 --> 00:47:20.480
Hey, all right.

00:47:20.620 --> 00:47:21.300
I'll get us back on.

00:47:21.620 --> 00:47:51.580
So you guys did some live shows. You mentioned you're going to do some more live shows. So is there anything you can kind of announce now or you have to kind of hold in a wrap? Are you going to come to D.C.? I actually think I would love to come to D.C. It's not quite on the map quite yet, but I definitely would love to get down there. Well, we know a guy. All right. Well, we'll be in touch. We'll make that happen because I'd love to do just as much of the East Coast as possible. I think it's safe to say we recently got compared in an

00:47:51.600 --> 00:48:21.580
I did an article to Opeth, which we all know, and then Barajas, these guys from Chicago. Fabio, who's behind the whole band, is from Italy, but he's moved to Chicago. I was like, oh, cool. Once again, another band I never heard of that I want to listen to. I checked them out. I love the music. I gave him a shout-out on all the social media platforms. Then he said, thanks for the shout-out. We started connecting. He's like, well, I want to do

00:48:21.600 --> 00:48:28.420
some shows on the east coast so we're putting together something the dates aren't finalized like even the cities

00:48:29.120 --> 00:48:35.320
there's a couple things that are in limbo right now but we've put the word out on facebook to all

00:48:35.320 --> 00:48:40.720
these different promoters so the word's out so it's not like a secret um it's going to be at the end of

00:48:40.820 --> 00:48:47.500
november it's you know i think we're definitely doing brooklyn and then possibly jersey but we also might go as far as

00:48:47.520 --> 00:48:48.760
or even Cleveland.

00:48:49.190 --> 00:48:52.160
So we have to see things have to come together yet.

00:48:52.250 --> 00:48:53.860
But and then span X,

00:48:54.160 --> 00:48:56.760
axioma from who is from Cleveland,

00:48:57.370 --> 00:48:57.760
I believe.

00:48:58.010 --> 00:48:59.780
I hope I didn't make a mistake there,

00:48:59.900 --> 00:49:00.760
but they might,

00:49:00.900 --> 00:49:01.880
they might join us as well.

00:49:02.120 --> 00:49:02.980
So that's pretty exciting.

00:49:03.930 --> 00:49:04.840
I dig for aha.

00:49:05.060 --> 00:49:08.500
They were on my top 25 for mid-year.

00:49:09.360 --> 00:49:10.940
And I live in Chicago.

00:49:11.520 --> 00:49:11.620
Oh,

00:49:11.620 --> 00:49:12.200
you do really?

00:49:12.660 --> 00:49:12.720
Yeah.

00:49:12.840 --> 00:49:13.440
They're very good live.

00:49:13.500 --> 00:49:42.860
I've seen them a few times actually. But I don't think you sound anything like them so that's a weird comparison. You know what when I listened to them I said well you know I didn't really see totally the comparison. There's some somber parts that we have that I maybe can compare but I was like you know what I dig it anyway and I think it could add some you know. Well hey and now you've got a relationship with them. Exactly yeah. Cool. Exactly yeah. You know but that would kind of make a more fun bill is I

00:49:43.220 --> 00:50:11.980
We talk about this all the time. It's great to go see bands that all play the same music, but sometimes I want to see bands that kind of jump around sound-wise. Like they do in Europe. Yeah. Yeah. And it doesn't have to be that much different, but you go see four death metal bands in a row drinking eight IPAs in a row. I love IPAs. There you go, right? But after a while, your tongue just gets destroyed. Yes. Or drink four stouts, and you're on the podcast yelling, man, I'm fucked up. Which we've all done at some point.

00:50:16.640 --> 00:50:41.900
I'm really fucking hammered. By the way, Marcus, on that is by far the calmest, man, I'm hammered I've ever heard in my life. And he's consistent. And I've got two different samples where he's saying the same thing from different episodes. He's a pro. Well, that'll be a pretty cool. You guys are I agree with Marcus. It's a lot different, but I think it would make for a good variety.

00:50:42.040 --> 00:51:09.660
of a show. I think so. It gives a little bit of an ebb and flow to the lineup rather than a barrage of the same thing. It's different but complementary. I think that's a great lineup. That's a good way to put it. That is a good way to put it. When you guys did your four shows, are you doing the vocals also? Because I watched all the videos where you guys were playing live and I had a hard time with the red lights that they were using. It's hard to see. Hard to see the mic. Do you have a mic there? Yeah, that's me doing the vocals.

00:51:12.020 --> 00:51:41.840
We wanted to get Meg Moyer on board to do live vocals, but it just didn't work out right now. We're hoping that she might join us in the future for some live shows. And then we were auditioning some other female singers and it just didn't work out. It's too last minute. It might be something that's nice for the future, but in a way it's kind of good it didn't work out because it got me a little settled into my role. And yeah, it was challenging. I mean, drumming and singing and screaming at the same time.

00:51:42.020 --> 00:52:11.980
But it was, you know, I kind of said, all right, well, let's go for it. It was kind of like going in the studio. It was like, let's see what happens. So, yeah, that's mostly me. And then Dylan Jacob is the bassist. He also does some live vocals as well. Yeah. I just saw Tumult, I guess, what, about a week and a half ago, they played at Atlas Brew Works, which Will, who's also on the podcast, he's one of the, he's the main guy at Atlas for booking the shows and everything. And their drummer sings. He growls.

00:52:12.020 --> 00:52:41.880
Oh, really? Yeah. Also, he's the guy we know, by the way, that would book you. Oh, okay. Yeah. Will. Okay. He's not here today. Okay, cool. Awesome. Yeah. It's just, it's kind of cool to see more drummers are doing that. You know, you don't see it as often. I believe George just saw a band where a drummer sang a song. Did you not, George? A song? Yes, I did. I saw Queen and Roger Taylor did I'm In Love With My Car. Oh, really? No way. Wow. Dude, by the way, George,

00:52:42.040 --> 00:53:10.960
That who wants to live for everything is kind of fucking amazing, dude. That was really, that's a great song. That was a great show. I was going to talk about that in, well, not too short. We'll do so. But, yeah. Well, you know, I kind of got myself in trouble with the album because when I went into the studio, I had these elaborate arrangements and I never thought we were going to do it live. So I was like, I was just going, you know, balls to the wall with everything, the arrangements, the layering and everything. And justice for all syndrome. Yeah.

00:53:12.040 --> 00:53:40.540
I never dreamed of like, oh, well, I'm going to have to sing. I'm going to have to actually do this live. No, I didn't think of that. And then, you know, that was a, you know, once we decided to do it live, I was like, uh-oh. So it was a good challenge, and it will remain a good challenge, too. I'll be honest, the stuff that I watched on the Facebook page, I know it's all hand recordings, but you guys did a really good job of representing what's on the album, considering it was, you know, I know the album at times can sound like there's more than five people playing.

00:53:41.820 --> 00:54:11.700
But it was a good representation, I thought, of what was on the album. Without it being just, you know, let's play it by the numbers. It wasn't that at all. I'm just saying you guys were able to replicate the sound, which was cool. Thank you. I appreciate it. And that's a lot to, you know, the band. Once we started working together, practicing, I didn't have any doubts right away. I was like, all right, this is, you know, I was nervous before our first rehearsal. I said, oh, you know, what's this going to sound like? But I know, you know, I know all these guys that have known them for so long, and they're just,

00:54:11.820 --> 00:54:39.800
So solid and you know it's there's a chemistry to you know that that you can't replicate because we've known each other for so long and we've played together for so long so I think that's a big part of it too that you know having playing with your friends can be it could be a challenge in one way and it has you know in the past I'm speaking from past experiences and then but it could also be the best thing in the world is you just you know you have some kind of telepathy that that works through the band.

00:54:40.940 --> 00:54:43.100
Yeah. Awesome.

00:54:45.700 --> 00:54:48.660
So I got one more question. What is, is anyone else want to jump in?

00:54:48.660 --> 00:54:49.680
I have one more as well.

00:54:51.240 --> 00:54:51.740
Sure. Yeah.

00:54:52.200 --> 00:54:52.580
Go ahead, George.

00:54:53.140 --> 00:54:56.880
Okay. This is my, uh, my, uh, signature question that I ask everyone.

00:54:58.440 --> 00:55:01.440
What song or artist had a major impact on your life and why?

00:55:02.900 --> 00:55:08.420
Ooh, song or artist. Yeah. I mean, well, I would say I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin,

00:55:09.460 --> 00:55:39.380
Physical Graffiti. Nice. For the win. Yeah, that's in my DNA. And that's why the one thing, you know, I can't, and not to be like butthurt or anything, the one criticism the album gets is that it's too long. And I'm like, well, I love Double Album. That's the criticism we get too. This is a long podcast. Hey, what are some of your favorite tracks on Physical Graffiti? Like Submersion or Immersion or, you know, like,

00:55:39.440 --> 00:56:08.600
I feel like 40 minutes goes by so fast. But yeah, I would say Led Zeppelin and then a band that might surprise you that's kind of a funny one is Rage Against the Machine, actually. Their first album just got me really fired up. That's when I first got a drum set, right? Around the same time. And I just loved that first album. So I remember listening to that album and saying, I'm going to be a musician.

00:56:09.440 --> 00:56:39.420
I'm going to do music. So that was kind of a click for me. I can talk Zeflin for days. And by the way, I mean, I don't know that any of us are Rage fans, but I think we all get it. I like the first album. You like the first one? I love Rage. I like the other album. Yeah, Vampire is great too. But I do need you to tell me at least, let's see, three favorite tracks of Physical Graffiti. Yeah. Oh, okay. So, Bronny R, the

00:56:40.680 --> 00:57:07.020
Yeah, no, that's that. I mean, that's I mean, that track just that that is like Led Zeppelin. That's what I go to them for for that. Whatever that is, man, that that sound. Yeah, I love it so much. And then it's then stuff. I mean, ooh, trampled underfoot is. All right, that's good. I think that's George. That's one of yours, isn't it? You still got to pick. You still got to pick to get the right one.

00:57:11.520 --> 00:57:35.280
Oh, that's a good choice. The rover. There you go. The rover was my favorite when I was a kid. That was like when I first started playing drums and that guitar riff. That's what made me actually, you know, it's funny. The rover made me want to play guitar. I think that's when I first started experimenting with guitar. I heard the riffs in that song and I was like, oh man, how does he get that sound? You know, yeah.

00:57:39.440 --> 00:58:07.880
No, sorry, Jay, go ahead. Well, a couple of things. One is, have you ever seen the live at Albert Hall thing from, I guess it'd be the Zeppelin 2 or 3 tour? Yeah. Which is fucking amazing. I mean, it's just like, have you seen that? No, I actually haven't seen anything of Zeppelin at Albert Hall. No, I don't think so. It's from 60 or 60. It's way back. Wow. But the Brian Rar thing, you know, which is actually, I've looked it up. That's how it's pronounced. Sorry, not correcting you. But A, that's the cabin.

00:58:07.960 --> 00:58:37.280
They are a little cottage they went up to. I have an intention to go there someday just to do it. It's still there. Yeah. And also that's the if you've seen the song remains the same. That's the song that's playing as they're coming over the bridge and that beautiful New York four o'clock sunlight. And they play that over the soundtrack as they're in this limousine coming to come in to destroy Madison Square Garden. I mean, that song figures really heavy. And then every time my wife and I take a vacation to like Europe or something, we do a little video. We put together all the videos.

00:58:37.940 --> 00:59:07.920
that we do and just like add them into something entertaining to watch and we did one of Scotland and I used that as the soundtrack. Beautiful song. Yes. Yeah. So the song I was going to say for the win and it's always for the win as far as I'm concerned is In My Time of Dying. Yeah. Just to me it was everyone always wants to point to to Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir and I'm like okay I get it but where the pure power came from in that band was that a song like

00:59:07.960 --> 00:59:37.920
that to me. I agree. To me, that's more the... And it's blues. I get it. But I don't care. It's still awesome. It's powerful. And I think what people go to for Stairway, like you kind of said, they go to Stairway to get that out of Zeppelin. I think I go to in my time of dying to get that same feeling. This doesn't count as the epic, but Night Flight. I fucking love Night Flight off that record, dude. I received a message from a brother caused the

00:59:37.980 --> 01:00:07.900
It's time to come home. I love that song so much. Jay, his rubber plants moment where he has that one individual piece in the middle of the song where the song just stops and he just does that. Oh, mama, well, I think it's time I'm leaving. Yeah, it's fucking great, dude. Yeah, I could talk Zeppelin for hours, too. Oh, yeah. Cool. A fine choice. Any other questions? John had a question. Yeah, so last thing here, unless Mark's on, do you have anything? I'm good, John. Go for it. Okay. What's next for you guys?

01:00:07.940 --> 01:00:36.440
I know that you said recently that you had a Devin Townsend moment, which I believe that's a little bit of an influence. I think it said that at least on your Facebook page. But you were like, yeah, I just started writing and I just didn't want to stop, which sounds like you did on the first album. You were hanging out one day and then wrote an album, which is kind of cool. So do you have new material? Are you working on stuff besides the shows you mentioned that are coming up? What else is going on with you guys?

01:00:36.580 --> 01:01:06.560
Yeah, so we want to stay busy live, but we want to also be selective. It's a big band. It's five piece, possibly six in the future. So we're playing live, but we're being very strategic about where we play live and how many times we play. But we will be as active as possible live. We had such a blast at the beginning of the month that I think we're all pretty pumped up to keep playing live. But yeah, I basically have the next album is

01:01:06.580 --> 01:01:36.560
in but not arranged. And it might be people complaining that the last album was too long, which I told you it's legitimate. That's fine. But maybe it might just turn into two albums because it's a ton of material and it's coming at the most inconvenient times. I'm supposed to be packing up and I'm like, you know what, let me just sit down and I can't stop. If I feel it coming on, I got to pick up the guitar. And so even yesterday I was supposed to be packing and I just sat down for about an hour and I wrote some of what

01:01:36.580 --> 01:02:05.540
I think is the coolest stuff I've written so far. I feel like I could keep putting out studio albums. At this point, at least, I feel like it's been... I've been waiting for this outlet for a long time. I think it's kind of like an explosion of the last 11, 12 years of me wanting to write stuff. Now it's just like an explosion. It won't stop. Which is good. I'm fine with that.

01:02:05.640 --> 01:02:31.760
Yeah. That's awesome. Yeah. Cool. So I guess I'm hoping if I, you know, don't hold me to this, but I'm hoping sometime in 2020 we'll have the next one, next album out. Awesome. Yeah. So you may want to consult Angry Metal Guy about your album cover. I'm going to go through that first. You know what? Sean, just do the same cover, but replace the girl with a dude.

01:02:38.360 --> 01:02:40.980
It would be funny though if they were like it's so much better too

01:02:41.100 --> 01:02:41.460
You know what I mean?

01:02:44.640 --> 01:02:47.140
I would make it summertime on the earth

01:02:48.160 --> 01:02:49.000
Right, right

01:02:50.160 --> 01:02:52.520
Musically it is going to be a pretty cohesive follow up

01:02:52.720 --> 01:02:53.500
So that's possible

01:02:53.620 --> 01:02:55.140
We can maybe make that happen

01:02:58.280 --> 01:03:00.100
Well sir, you are a pleasure to talk to

01:03:00.460 --> 01:03:00.660
Truthfully

01:03:01.000 --> 01:03:02.920
You guys too, honestly, love it

01:03:04.160 --> 01:03:08.920
Let us see what other bathroom talk transpires here on Metalhead's podcast.

01:03:15.060 --> 01:03:23.000
Okay, so we took a little break after the interview. And before we get into the episode proper, what are we all drinking? We'll start with our guest, Sean.

01:03:24.300 --> 01:03:31.560
So right now it's a single cut 18 watt. It's a session IPA, but it tastes really full.

01:03:31.760 --> 01:04:01.700
So it doesn't really taste like a typical session IPA. It's really good. Nice. Markisan, what do you got? I have a new beer I never tried before from Pipeworks. It's called Blended In. It's an Imperial Porter blended with barrel aged beer. 9.5%. Got that beat. And I got another one on deck. Yeah. Let's go with John next. So you guys know I love my barrel aged beer.

01:04:01.780 --> 01:04:30.400
So I was drinking Firestone Walker Sticky Monkey, which is probably code for like eight or probably about 30 different episodes for something. But it's a barrel-age quad from 2016, and it's excellent. Sounds great, John. It is wonderful, and I would love to share it with you guys if I could. And Jay, what do you got? Coffee, water? Water. Yeah, I haven't had coffee.

01:04:31.740 --> 01:04:35.200
before we got on so beer would if i drank any beer right now it'd be a waste of money

01:04:36.200 --> 01:04:42.400
it's like too full so but i'll have mine later i've got uh some 21st uh amendment brewery in the fridge

01:04:42.660 --> 01:04:46.580
chilling as we speak i'll whip it out when i when we're done i'm gonna watch the a's game and i'll start

01:04:46.720 --> 01:04:52.440
drinking my beer but i am drinking water out of my commemorative a's bullshit plastic soda cup nice

01:04:53.320 --> 01:04:59.240
i'm just about finished with a new beer uh that i've i was recommended yesterday it's by nightmare

01:05:00.839 --> 01:05:29.120
And it's called... Oh, I love Nightmare. Yeah? Manquerta? Have you had that? I have not had that one. Sounds dirty. It is. The podcast people won't be able to see it, but it's like this... I was looking at the Adroit Theory stuff, and the guy was like, oh, you should check this out. We don't get much of it in. And it's got like a picture of a guy who's like all bloody and tied up in ropes like he's going to be drawn and quartered. And then there's a little reaper on a throne in the background.

01:05:29.260 --> 01:05:59.160
And nightmare stuff is some of the most metal cans. All of their cans that I've seen are very metal. Yeah. And I was like, I had it in North Carolina. Yeah. I was like, I've never heard of it. It looks really metal. I'm going to grab it. And it's expensive as fuck. $26 for a four pack. I put it on the register and he was like, ding. And I was like, I pooped myself a little. I was like, what? And you don't want to be that asshole guy that says, well, I don't want this.

01:05:59.260 --> 01:06:28.700
Yep. You know, you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, all right, better be good. Before we go any further, George, I guess we should mention that we're missing two people today. Yes. Will is on vacation and Matt, he's at Valken or something. Yeah. Well, he's sending us little messages and texts and videos and stuff. He's keeping us apprised at what's going on. But not very often, which means he's having the time of his life. Yeah. And we're going to try to Skype in with him a little later.

01:06:29.260 --> 01:06:58.900
Before, since you mentioned Valk and Jay, did you see that? I did. Yeah. Did you see also Priests doing their first 50th anniversary show there? I did. I mean, I'm literally being like that because now it's like so hard not to. You should totally buy a ticket and then not go. Yeah. Well, I'm having to do the math right now on Merciful State. Like, I'm literally playing the odds right now are they going to come to America or not, which Hank Sherman has assured me personally by liking my comment that they are, but I don't know.

01:06:59.880 --> 01:07:28.280
Yes, I did see that, John. Still, it would be awesome to see them at Valken. Wouldn't it? It would, and you know what would be even more awesome is if I didn't have to stand in a piss-filled field and I could see priests from like 20 feet away on their 50th anniversary. You've got to make some concessions, John. No, John, I think you will, though. I think you will get that chance. I will be the grumpy old man that says, I'm not traveling over there. I think they'll do it up right there. But it would still be really awesome to see them at Valken, yes.

01:07:58.940 --> 01:08:01.400
called Crooked Stave.

01:08:01.500 --> 01:08:01.600
Ooh.

01:08:03.140 --> 01:08:03.860
Untitled art.

01:08:04.100 --> 01:08:06.840
It's the Coconut Cream Pie Blonde Stout.

01:08:07.780 --> 01:08:08.180
Dessert.

01:08:09.260 --> 01:08:12.160
Well, do you guys ever, like, buy beers solely based off the art?

01:08:12.280 --> 01:08:12.800
Oh, yeah.

01:08:12.880 --> 01:08:13.300
Oh, yeah.

01:08:13.560 --> 01:08:13.860
Sure.

01:08:14.020 --> 01:08:14.320
Oh, yeah.

01:08:15.040 --> 01:08:15.980
Especially metal art.

01:08:16.040 --> 01:08:17.819
Have you ever heard of a joint theory?

01:08:19.200 --> 01:08:19.400
Yep.

01:08:19.920 --> 01:08:23.380
Well, yeah, they're local here, and all their stuff is so metal-looking.

01:08:24.020 --> 01:08:25.040
And it's great beer, too.

01:08:25.920 --> 01:08:26.259
Yeah.

01:08:27.480 --> 01:08:56.160
Well, let's move on to news. Well, actually, a couple of bits that I should mention, but I added some stuff to the script, and I didn't send out a new one because I'm like that. All right, so a couple of things before we get into the news. First off, we still have a few shirts left from Decibel. If you've seen the awesome new artwork and the shirts that we've been wearing, let us know. We still have one small, a couple of larges, a couple of XL,

01:08:56.319 --> 01:09:26.220
and a couple of 3XL shirts left. So if you're interested, get a hold of us and we'll hook you up. Also, I wanted to talk briefly about a couple of the shows that we've seen recently. Will and John and I, NTR, saw Iron Maiden last week. Or was that two weeks ago? Last week. Yeah, yeah. And a couple days ago, I saw Queen. So, John, what did you think of the Iron Maiden? They had a little bit of difficulty.

01:09:26.319 --> 01:09:55.880
starting off, didn't they? Well, okay. So it's early in the tour. If you're familiar with how Iron Maiden tours, if I'm not mistaken, I think they usually start in Florida. Doesn't Nico live down in Florida? Yeah, his restaurant. They usually kind of start out that way. That's a band, what, since Peace of Mind has had an affinity for that part of the world. Didn't they record some of their albums down that way in the Bahamas? Yeah, you know, so, and he's been there, I think, for most of his, or most of his life. Yeah.

01:09:56.300 --> 01:10:25.100
So we got them, what, on the fourth show on the tour? And there might have been a few problems, like, I don't know, not showing up to sing a fucking song that John's never seen live in 40 fucking years that turned out to be an instrumental. Wait, what was it? What was it? So, Where Eagles Dare, second song of the set, and Bruce didn't make it out to sing the song in time. And they're playing, and they're playing, and they're playing, and I'm just kind of like waiting, and I'm not really noticing that, and John's like,

01:10:25.740 --> 01:10:55.080
What the fuck? He's like, what? And he's like, singing? I'm like, I don't know. Was there an explanation for this? Or what was the deal? So at one point, Jay, this is what happened. And to you, Sean, too, because you guys are in bands. They kept playing, and they all looked at each other and said, play it again. One of those things. Bruce, I think, had a problem coming back out with the wardrobe or something like that, and they just kept playing. So when he finally started singing, he was completely off. He was lost.

01:10:55.080 --> 01:11:24.460
the whole song. Nothing he did could get him back into the song no matter how hard he tried. But it was like a seven-minute version of the song. Yeah, and I'm sure. Well, in my honest way, I think it's a seven-minute song. Okay, well, then it was ten. And it's predominantly an instrumental song to begin with. He doesn't sing that much on it, but he could not get back in. They were actually, at one point, I think they were laughing at him on stage. It happens, but that's the first time in any time I've ever seen them where they fucked up, and they just kind of like, well,

01:11:25.080 --> 01:11:54.720
What happens now? Because they're like a machine on stage. And Bruce came out later and I think he was trying to explain it, but I couldn't hear it very well. He said something about he was backstage and he's like, I heard this sound like a cement mixer coming from the stage. And I was like, hmm? And see, I thought that meant he had to take a crap or something. And he was like, he couldn't get out there. I didn't understand it at all. But they totally, they just totally killed the song. And it still sounded awesome. Yeah. And the vocals.

01:11:55.100 --> 01:12:24.940
I feel like Jay's brought this up before, but man, what's with his teeth? Bruce's teeth. They're just like, they're like, I'm like, did you never see Austin Powers? Yes, but still. Fine, you got me. I've got bad teeth. Fine, British teeth. Were you close enough you could see his teeth? It was up on the screen. On the Jumbotron, yeah. Okay. Did they zoom in on the teeth? Jesus. That's the thing is that you didn't have to. They were just,

01:12:25.080 --> 01:12:54.960
So bad, you could see them from that far away. I wanted to find out if he was actually singing or not. And I got to say, I mean, they were awesome as usual, you know, and I enjoyed it. And there was some rare cuts they played, which I was happy about, because even if some of them I really liked and some I didn't, doesn't matter. I'm glad to see them play something different. I'm going to say it. And I'm probably one of like four people in America. I used to not like Yannick Gears and all the theatrics on stage. As I get older, I admire it.

01:12:54.980 --> 01:13:24.960
I'm like that dude's like 65 years old. My back is hurting watching him. They're in amazing shape for their 60s. Well they toss them the guitars up in the air and all that. And then he does this thing Marcus somewhere you know he puts his leg up a complete vertical extension parallel to the to the stage on the on one of the uh monitor stacks and I'm like oh man my balls would have just torn off and fell off and rolled on stage. He's just like it was. You know I saw a couple things

01:13:24.980 --> 01:13:54.960
about that one really quick one is that when I have a favorite yeah yeah it goes quote when he was being interviewed for I think one of their DVD documentary things at which there's an 8 million at this point but anyway and they and his summary at the end of the interview was his message to the fans you look right at the camera and he said if you've been supporting us for all these years God bless you and he said and if you haven't been well God bless you too and I love that dude but also as to the set list I read an interview with Steve Harris recently and he said

01:13:55.000 --> 01:14:23.800
They always pick it. And this time, nobody did for some reason. Rod Smallwood picked the whole fucking thing. We saw him. Really? Did you? Was he at the sound desk? Yeah, yeah. I don't know if you saw him, John, but TR, like, elbowed me, and he was like, dude! And he's like, you know who that is? I was like, an old guy? And he's like, that's Rod! I was like, no way. Where did you guys see him? Well, he was, you know, we were just to the right of the soundboard. Oh, he was at the actually- Yeah, yeah.

01:14:24.980 --> 01:14:26.080
Literally right by you.

01:14:27.620 --> 01:14:28.280
One of the...

01:14:28.330 --> 01:14:29.240
You and Will were talking.

01:14:29.470 --> 01:14:31.180
Literally everybody walks right by me and I don't know this.

01:14:31.720 --> 01:14:33.040
He walked up.

01:14:33.360 --> 01:14:33.640
Mom?

01:14:33.740 --> 01:14:40.880
He walked up from below right next to you, went to the back, walked over, and then down to the soundboard.

01:14:41.640 --> 01:14:48.080
Well, he can thank me because that just proves that he can walk around in public and nobody knows he can live his life like a normal person.

01:14:48.860 --> 01:14:49.520
Bless you, John.

01:14:49.750 --> 01:14:50.420
And you know what, John?

01:14:50.820 --> 01:14:51.440
God bless you, too.

01:14:51.890 --> 01:14:52.220
You know?

01:14:52.590 --> 01:14:52.980
Thank you.

01:14:53.940 --> 01:15:23.860
Rod Smallwood does these charity auctions. I'm sure you guys see from time to time. And one of the things he frequently auctions is hanging out with him at the show and sitting at the soundboard. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. And so, and I even Rod really does go on tour with him and stuff. I don't know. He goes to every stop of the tour, but. Yeah, he was here. He's the seventh member, I guess you would say. Yeah, he really is. Yeah. Yeah. I'll say this one last thing. I don't want to take all the time from it, George, but I will say this. I, what I like about them is that they will play blaze.

01:15:24.480 --> 01:15:52.120
even though fans are not big fans of those albums. But Bruce will sing them. George pointing to himself. But it's cool that Bruce will sing songs that aren't his. And it's cool that they never said to Yannick, hey, you got to leave because Adrian's coming back. Now, fuck that. Let's just have three guitars now. That's what we do here, man. We're like, hey, let's just keep adding people. Come on in, Marcus. It is a class move, though. I agree. I've always thought that was a class move. And think about this now. This band's been together, this six guys now, since 99.

01:15:53.400 --> 01:16:19.120
which is hard to do as they get older. I'll take it. I thought the show was great as usual. They're always good live. I'll be honest. I've been down on Nico for years because I felt he was getting a little old and struggling. I know he has some problems with his legs and feet. He was outstanding. He sounded really good. I know it's early in the tour and I'm sure he probably takes a beating as the time goes on. He was on spot the whole show.

01:16:22.200 --> 01:16:52.180
where he goes there with one bass pedal. He doesn't have two bass pedals. And that's like a famous thing that he does. And for them to do that that early in the set, honestly, I assume maybe he warms up ahead of time. But my point is for a 65-year-old guy to do that, that's pretty fucking cool. That's some John Bonham footwork right there. You guys are making me want to see Maiden. I wasn't going to go to see him. I'm going. I got my ticket. The stage setup is great as long as they pull the camouflage off and don't leave it up for

01:16:52.200 --> 01:17:22.120
an hour like they did at our show, but, you know, it's a, no, it's, it's a fun show and there's a lot of fire and there's some cool duels with Eddie on stage and, you know, the airplane. Can I ask you, can I see your shirt? George, you're wearing a Maiden shirt. That's a Live After Death shirt. I got the Live After Death, I got the number of the beast and I got the aces high. And for the record, George, I went online thinking I'm going to fuck George. I'm going to get these shirts dirt cheap. Same fucking price online.

01:17:23.580 --> 01:17:52.160
There's a $5 fat tax on each big shirt, yeah. I was going to say, John was mentioning the Blaze stuff. I thought it was interesting, and I'm guessing they probably don't do this in other countries, but in this country, when introducing the Klansmen, he had to make sure people were spelling it right with a C. To be honest with you, I think that he just did that just to do that. I couldn't imagine that. He's doing that every night.

01:17:52.200 --> 01:18:20.680
But if he is, that's kind of lame, to be honest with you. Yeah, because of Maiden fans. If you're a Maiden fan, you know that that's not what it means. But OK, I see where it's coming from. And I got while I wasn't all that thrilled with that one, the the other. Oh, that's an epic fail right there. I'm going to give you a little bit of something. All right. The other one, the sign of the sign of the cross was pretty cool. Yeah. If they were going to pick two songs, those are the two I'd want to hear. Lord of the Flies have been cool, too.

01:18:23.940 --> 01:18:52.000
I'm glad you guys get to go to the show together. That's really awesome. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't get to do anything with anybody, but I get to hang out and drink with certain bands. Well, I was hanging out with Nate from Immortal Bird, and he was talking about going to Maiden. I should go to Maiden together. I know. Maybe. McCall, man. Go. I mean, we drank for six hours straight. Holy shit. So we caught you three hours in. Yes, exactly. We kept going.

01:18:52.220 --> 01:18:53.600
He went to another bar after that.

01:18:53.600 --> 01:18:54.260
He said this is a message.

01:18:54.720 --> 01:18:56.080
It was a great day.

01:18:56.200 --> 01:18:58.700
I got to say, that guy is a good conversationalist.

01:18:58.780 --> 01:18:58.940
Nice.

01:19:00.700 --> 01:19:03.040
We'll go out and pick up Immortal Birds, Thrive on Neglect.

01:19:04.260 --> 01:19:04.680
There you go.

01:19:05.240 --> 01:19:06.040
Underwateraudio.com.

01:19:06.640 --> 01:19:06.840
George.

01:19:07.740 --> 01:19:07.920
Queen.

01:19:08.280 --> 01:19:09.920
Maybe you'll tweet quite Queen a little bit.

01:19:10.120 --> 01:19:10.440
Briefly.

01:19:12.000 --> 01:19:16.100
As anybody that knows who Queen are knows, Freddie Mercury died a long time ago.

01:19:17.060 --> 01:19:47.020
And they've been out on the road with Adam Lambert, who did one of their songs on American Idol. And they found it was a good fit. Not a big fan of his solo music, but he sounds pretty good with Queen. And after seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, my wife decided that she wanted to see them. She's never been much of a Queen fan, but she liked the movie and decided that she wanted to see them. So we went to see them. And it was a really great show. Adam Lambert is, I mean, is

01:19:47.080 --> 01:20:17.000
Definitely no Freddie Mercury. There were times where he couldn't go where Freddie could go, but he was still pretty damn good. But for me, the epic moments of the evening were when the original Queen members, Brian May and Roger Taylor, both sang a song. Brian May came out and did 39 from A Night at the Opera, which is one of my all-time favorite Queen songs. And he came out on the catwalk and sat down on a chair.

01:20:17.060 --> 01:20:22.480
with a lone spotlight and talked about the whole like time travel not time travel but uh

01:20:23.160 --> 01:20:27.560
relativity thing about space travelers going away and everybody gets old before they come back

01:20:27.720 --> 01:20:32.080
because they were traveling the speed of light blah blah blah and then he goes into the song and it was awesome

01:20:33.620 --> 01:20:39.020
and then uh roger taylor sings i'm in love with my car also from a night at the opera

01:20:39.980 --> 01:20:44.420
and that was just fucking epic and so on the whole it was it was a really great show

01:20:45.140 --> 01:21:14.380
If you like Queen at all, I wouldn't be afraid to go see these guys because it's really good. Hey, George, did you see them with Paul Rogers? I did not. I wish I had because I'm a big Paul Rogers fan as well. That would have been kind of cool to see. That would have been cool, yeah. Paul Rogers is one of the best. I went to see him solo about four or five years ago. His voice sounded amazing. It's crazy. Isn't it crazy at his age? It's unbelievable. Look at him up close. He's a wizened old man, really, if you look at it.

01:21:15.080 --> 01:21:41.760
Yeah, he's old. But his voice you would never get. I mean, he actually sounds better than he does on all those old Bad Company records. It's amazing. I'll say this, and I'm being quite sincere here. My favorite vocalists are people like Ian Gillen, Ronnie James Dio, Robert Plant. But honest to God, Paul Rogers is better than all of them, dude. That guy is such a good singer. I'm not saying he's my favorite. I just think he's an exemplary singer.

01:21:43.920 --> 01:22:12.020
The only time I ever saw him live, believe it or not, Jay was at the Cow Palace and he was with The Firm with Jimmy Page. Wow. That's a long time ago. Yeah. When did you see him as Paul Rogers, Sean? I think the only song he did was I Can't Get Enough of Your Love. That's the only one you would have known from his typical catalog.

01:22:13.980 --> 01:22:43.420
five years ago. And I think he just did a lot of blues standards and he did a lot of standards and cover songs. But beautifully. Rearranged in a really beautiful way. And, you know, very solid band. And he just I couldn't get over how good he sounded. Amazing. They don't they don't talk. You don't they don't get mentioned enough in proper conversation, musical conversations, but free with Paul Kossoff and Rodgers. That's like, honestly, I do like those are some of my favorite old school records of the free records. Yeah. Yeah.

01:22:44.280 --> 01:22:59.660
Cool. Yep. Very cool. Well, it sounds like you guys had a blast. It does. And good shout out to John for bringing up the Paul Rogers Queen thing, which is pretty good, too. They actually did a record that's that bad. All right. We will now move on to the news.

01:23:15.280 --> 01:23:43.520
It's not April 1st, but Tool has apparently officially announced their new album, Fear Inoculum, due on August 30th, which is just weeks away. That was a lot of enthusiasm out of John. Can I add one quick thing to that news thing, too, which is also Friday, I think it was, their stuff all went on iTunes. And they're all in the top 10 on iTunes or something like that.

01:23:43.920 --> 01:24:13.900
Yeah, indeed. I don't personally dislike them. I have everything by them. It's just this exercise. Chinese democracy type drama? Yes, of waiting for this. And they're worse, actually. Guns N' Roses, at least, Tool released an album in the 21st century. I just released a fucking album already. God bless it. Yeah, there's going to be a lot of pressure on this one. Yeah, I mean, this thing, it's not going to bomb them because their fans, anyone who's a...

01:24:15.800 --> 01:24:43.800
I think Mark is on you said you're a tool fan right? I'm excited. I'm excited. I think that there's enough support from tool fans that it will do well even if it's not commercially successful with non-tool fans or average tool fans I should say. It'll sell in the hundreds of thousands. In the first week it'll sell potentially 500,000 copies even though I know the era we're living in. It will. They're dedicated.

01:24:44.140 --> 01:25:13.900
I was just saying I'm a huge Danny Carey fan I love his playing it's just I think I get kind of tired of the monotonous oh we're working on it and that's like 2013 you know so that's all that's that's what bothers me the most yeah well 13 years is a long time to wait but it's worse because they're they always kind of put out those cryptic messages of you know are we're working on it or they're kind of teasing you over the years and that that's sucks but now that they've officially announced it I think

01:25:13.940 --> 01:25:43.880
I kind of turned a corner on them like, all right, this is coming out. This is exciting. You know, I love their music. And they haven't released any singles. Yeah. Yeah. But they said soon. Okay. Well, no, no. Yeah. Well, the live version. Live. You can only get them live, though. Yes. It's like Invincible. Neither of them blew me out of the water, to be honest with you. And I really just to give a little bit of a qualifier, because I had said to Markisan offline that I was not that excited about this. And I have to point out that like Tool was huge with me for a while.

01:25:43.940 --> 01:26:13.680
Well, not only that, but Sean, they actually figured in my Chapel Perilous experience, in all honesty, like they were written into that. It's a very much. Yep. I totally get it. Yeah. The metaphysical whole. All of it. And also, they're also like, by the way, they're all Robert Anton Wilson guys, the whole thing. Yeah, they really are. I mean, they and so there's that. But the truth is, is that that's how long it's been, dude, that I've just kind of moved on. And I'll listen to it, but I'm not expecting a lot. And I here's the other thing. They're kind of a proggy band, but so much has happened since that last one.

01:26:13.940 --> 01:26:43.900
that it's gonna I almost guarantee you it's gonna sound super dated what's gonna it's gonna sound like 10,000 days judged by the two live songs we heard he says that but now come December when we roll out our year-end list possessed is gonna be number two and he's gonna be like dude tool number one yeah well but also I would also just throw out that having had tool having been huge with me one time I had the great thrill of meeting Danny Carey at the last decibel fest in LA which was super fucking cool because I never thought I was going to be

01:26:45.460 --> 01:27:13.880
He was so nice. John P.T. and I just sat there and talked to him for a long time. And he was just super sweet to us. If you go to him at shows, he actually goes to a lot of shows in L.A. He just hangs out. Yeah. He's very cool. Was he wearing a Lakers jersey? No, he was wearing a Chiefs thing. Yeah, he's always in a sports jersey. Yeah, he's a big Chief. He's from Kansas City. But he talked to us for a long time, and I talked to him about how he reminds me of Stuart Copeland. And he said, I'm friends with Stuart. He's always calling me and saying, finish the fucking record and blah, blah, blah. We talked for a long time.

01:27:13.920 --> 01:27:15.360
He was such a nice guy.

01:27:16.520 --> 01:27:19.000
I don't know how it's going to sound, but

01:27:19.820 --> 01:27:21.780
I really like the Perfect Circle album

01:27:21.880 --> 01:27:23.060
that came out, and that was very different.

01:27:23.540 --> 01:27:24.240
Like this one?

01:27:24.820 --> 01:27:24.940
Yeah.

01:27:26.480 --> 01:27:28.560
So that was a lot more mellow than I thought.

01:27:28.620 --> 01:27:31.800
So I don't know if anything will change with Tool.

01:27:32.100 --> 01:27:35.600
I suspect that it might be similar to the stuff in the past.

01:27:36.940 --> 01:27:38.960
I have actually one thing to add to the Tool thing,

01:27:39.000 --> 01:27:42.480
and that is that they guarded themselves

01:27:42.480 --> 01:28:12.460
so closely for a long time that you didn't know anything about them as people like truly and in the 13 years since the last record that's completely changed and that doesn't mean anything it's just like one of the cool things about zeppelin was this weird mystique and um tool had that mystique for a while and they've just thrown that out the window which is fine god bless them but i mean now they're you know proposing to their girlfriends and on youtube well maynard's got that that wine company he's very visible you know he's doing tours with he did a book so i also that tour

01:28:12.480 --> 01:28:40.540
I kind of find him a little insufferable too. And I didn't used to. He is. I agree. You can only take him in doses. I'll give Adam Jones this. I like that he did all that work with ISIS there in the 2000s. I thought that was kind of cool. You don't want to work with ISIS in the 2010s though. Justin Chancellor is on Panopticon too. Yeah, but George, that was still probably more active than Tool was when he was with ISIS in the 2000s.

01:28:42.480 --> 01:29:12.440
What do you think? Oh yeah, I'm sorry, Sean, please. By all means, you should, by the way, you should step on our toes and jump into any conversation. I was going to ask if you had any thoughts on the new Tool. Well, you know, this is weird because I love Tool. But for some reason, I do this too. I don't know what it is with me that I do this. I still have not listened to 10,000 Days from Start to Finish. Me neither. Is that true? It is true. The last two albums are kind of, I like the first, you know, I like, I like Opie.

01:29:12.500 --> 01:29:15.900
and the other two.

01:29:19.080 --> 01:29:20.460
Lateralis to me is a masterpiece.

01:29:21.180 --> 01:29:25.360
I still find new things in that record that I didn't hear before.

01:29:25.500 --> 01:29:26.900
So I don't know why.

01:29:26.940 --> 01:29:31.340
I think I was afraid, well, this might be their last album they released, so I'm not in a rush.

01:29:31.600 --> 01:29:36.200
So I bet you before this next album comes out, I'll finally listen to 10,000 Days.

01:29:36.760 --> 01:29:37.640
Same with Devin Townsend.

01:29:38.060 --> 01:29:38.920
Love Devin Townsend.

01:29:39.560 --> 01:29:41.300
I think there's about half his discography.

01:29:41.580 --> 01:30:10.360
I have not discovered yet. Okay. Hold on. Stop. Stop. Just let's pause the podcast. Devin Townsend has released more albums in the past two years than he's released their whole career. So we've got to be honest about this. Nobody can listen to all the Devin. Well, I don't want to mark your experience, and I doubt I can, because you have your own opinions. But in all honesty, 10,000 Days probably should have been the record that came up between Inema and Lateralist.

01:30:12.580 --> 01:30:41.540
I didn't want to compare anything to laterals because it's its own thing and I don't think there's anything you know I don't even want to compare it you know I must have seen five times on that tour I've only seen them once and I'm glad that I saw them once because they were great when I did see them and yeah and you never know if they're ever going to come they will now I guess yeah now you're about to get your chance yeah yeah yeah all right

01:30:41.580 --> 01:31:10.640
Moving on, there was another little piece of news that got certain people's panties excited. And that was that Merciful Fate will be reuniting to play Copenhel in June of 2020. And apparently announced today they will be also at Vaggen. Yeah. So I think I'm going to have to be the lead actor on this because I'm just one of my most dedicated loves of the world. I've got all my King Diamond merchandise up here. As you see, Don't Break the Oath and whatever.

01:31:11.260 --> 01:31:41.220
Long story short, even though they did Reunion stuff, I had this serious bad luck and I never had a chance to see them. I was living in the wrong place at the wrong time when they toured and they didn't do a lot of stuff in America anyway. But there's no three records I've listened to more in heavy metal than Corpse Without Soul or called various other things, Melissa and Don't Break the Oath. And there was no lead up to this. I don't remember hearing this rumor. I don't remember hearing any fucking

01:31:41.240 --> 01:31:44.200
thing that this was going to happen and all of a sudden there was and they had all these dates

01:31:44.940 --> 01:31:47.220
I am beside myself and I'm convinced

01:31:47.340 --> 01:31:48.140
they're going to come to America

01:31:49.120 --> 01:31:50.840
there you go sorry had to get that out

01:31:51.000 --> 01:31:53.260
if they come to America I will go and I'm going to

01:31:53.420 --> 01:31:54.420
buy a yellow shirt

01:31:56.220 --> 01:31:56.900
just like

01:31:57.140 --> 01:31:58.820
that shirt works with that

01:31:59.290 --> 01:32:01.240
it does no I'm not

01:32:01.600 --> 01:32:02.400
I'm not mocking it

01:32:03.940 --> 01:32:05.220
that was the most brilliant

01:32:05.560 --> 01:32:07.060
move anyone made at Death Fest

01:32:07.360 --> 01:32:09.440
is you bought this yellow shirt and I was like what the fuck

01:32:09.440 --> 01:32:12.920
And then when I'm out there, my balls are sweating at like 11 a.m.

01:32:13.040 --> 01:32:16.640
And my black t-shirt, Jay's just like, this is the best day ever.

01:32:18.120 --> 01:32:21.880
And I could find Jay in that massive parking lot from anywhere.

01:32:23.300 --> 01:32:24.980
So, Sean, I bought a Merciful Fate shirt.

01:32:25.300 --> 01:32:27.820
This was, good God, it's been a few years back now.

01:32:28.280 --> 01:32:31.320
But it's the cover of the Don't Break the Oath album, which is yellow in general.

01:32:31.360 --> 01:32:32.180
And the shirt was yellow.

01:32:32.920 --> 01:32:34.380
So I couldn't be.

01:32:34.380 --> 01:32:35.100
You were cool the whole day.

01:32:35.460 --> 01:32:36.420
I was cool the whole day.

01:32:36.800 --> 01:32:38.720
And I couldn't be more pleased to hear this.

01:32:38.800 --> 01:33:08.680
And that much, by the way, one of the things we have in our talking offline mentioned was that they, in the advertisement or the announcement, they mentioned they're going to play some new songs, too. So I don't know if that means a record, but. Yeah, they said that they were going to play the first mini LP in Melissa and Don't Break the Oath, and then also new songs. Unfortunately, it was also announced that Timmy Hansen's not going to be a part of it because he's got cancer, so he's not going to be able to do the communion. So Joey Vera from,

01:33:09.600 --> 01:33:38.760
Fates of Mourning and Armored Saints going to fill in. I was happy for Joey, but kind of bummed that that's the reason why he was playing for him. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I'm excited. I love, I just love this band so much. Yeah, it's good. I do too. I do too. I mean, just one of my soul connection bands. And, you know, it's funny, Timmy too was the guy who, he was one of the, he's one of the reasons they kind of broke up and that they kicked him out before, and then the band just kind of fell apart. And they kicked him out because he wanted to do like funk,

01:33:38.820 --> 01:34:08.580
music or something. But then he came back for the truly. And they were like, hey, that's fine, dude. It just doesn't quite fit with what we're doing. The devil, you know, funk. Hey, Rick James, come on now. Well, yeah, some people might have thought Rick James is the devil at some point, you know, so. Well, this could not be better news. And to be honest with you, we've already kind of jokingly talked to each other offline as well. And if they don't announce something in America, you know, in a timely fashion, I may choose one of these things. Choose Vodka.

01:34:08.840 --> 01:34:38.780
Don't you think they will doesn't uh what's his name live in in Dallas or something King Diamond yeah yeah I mean he yeah I can't imagine they'll do it at least a few shows in the states well it's gonna be the show's gonna be massively successful overseas I think so too yeah he's a procrastinator he's supposed to be putting out a King Diamond album not that I well not that I'm not to get merciful fate but that was apparently Brian Slagle's been saying to him for years do it do it do it do it do it and and and King Diamond whatever weird silo that guy lives in

01:34:38.800 --> 01:34:42.700
that's been like no people don't want to hear merciful fate man like whatever and brian slagle's

01:34:42.720 --> 01:34:47.040
been like dude fucking trust me like i don't know why you don't know this but if you do it too it's

01:34:47.050 --> 01:34:53.800
gonna go insane brian might know a few things you know brian might know a few things so it's nice of you

01:34:53.830 --> 01:34:58.500
guys to let me go on and on because i just yeah this is if this was a cool this that was great news this

01:34:58.600 --> 01:35:05.300
put on the yellow shirt put it on you know i have to tell you one funny story about that shirt doesn't

01:35:05.300 --> 01:35:33.980
really fit me that well anymore. And I haven't gained weight. It was because this is the best sales pitch I've ever been given. And it was they had one, one of one of that shirt. That was it. And I saw it right away. I was like, I'll fucking buy that. So I go up to buy it. I'm like, yeah, what size is that? And the guy goes, it's a medium. And I said, ah, I'm kind of a large. And he goes, oh, it's a Canadian medium. I don't know what the fuck that's supposed to mean. But I was like, okay, I'll take it, dude. And you know, I mean, I was, I don't know what he came up with.

01:35:36.820 --> 01:36:05.280
I'm guessing that one of your thousand things to do before he dies to meet that guy again to say you really duped me dude but I'm pretty happy you did I was able to wear it at decibel fest and then it kind of shrunk after I washed it they don't use human sizes in Canada they use bear sizes it's metric probably I think it's a metric medium so he got himself a sailor he's like I finally unloaded that shirt

01:36:05.300 --> 01:36:35.060
What, that Canadian medium? Fuck that thing. Anyway. Awesome. So speaking of shit that ain't cool, it was finally announced something that I've been saying for years was probably the case. But there was an article talking about Metallica and Live Nation colluding together on a ticket scam where tickets would not even go on sale to the public.

01:36:35.160 --> 01:36:37.700
They would just go directly to the resellers

01:36:38.220 --> 01:36:40.320
so that they could mark everything up before it gets sold.

01:36:40.640 --> 01:36:42.640
That is just a bunch of bullshit as far as I'm concerned.

01:36:43.440 --> 01:36:46.820
And I think that was also this was pre-VIP too.

01:36:47.040 --> 01:36:49.900
So even VIP people were getting phased out of this too.

01:36:50.540 --> 01:36:51.820
And fan clubs and everything.

01:36:52.600 --> 01:36:55.800
It was, to be fair, it was not fair, but it's the best seats.

01:36:55.860 --> 01:36:56.640
It wasn't the whole arena.

01:36:57.160 --> 01:36:57.260
Yeah.

01:36:57.660 --> 01:36:58.380
The best seats.

01:36:58.780 --> 01:37:00.660
And to be fair, it's not just Metallica.

01:37:00.880 --> 01:37:02.800
Metallica just was the first band that was named.

01:37:02.860 --> 01:37:03.440
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:37:03.740 --> 01:37:33.720
Because I tried to get Elton John tickets to his going away tour. And as soon as they went online, they were sold out. Yeah, it's bullshit. Actually, there are rumors that Ticketmaster meets with third party vendors. They meet beforehand and divvy up the tickets beforehand. There needs to be a lawsuit. I mean, another lawsuit. There's a member of Congress that nothing's going to happen, but that would like to

01:37:57.340 --> 01:38:00.780
I would love to watch that.

01:38:00.880 --> 01:38:30.420
I love this interview. You know what? You will come away thinking endeared to the guy. Yes, exactly. I saw recent interviews. I'm very sincere. That's what I took away from it. And Rogan's an MMA guy, so he's got that kind of ring feel to him anyway, so it'll be interesting. Oh, well, but you know what? That all is so far behind Mike Tyson now, and he has just embraced the softer side of himself, and he can't even... Well, you know what? I'll leave it to your man. You should watch that interview.

01:38:30.460 --> 01:38:34.540
I definitely want to because boxing is the only sport I watch so

01:38:34.860 --> 01:38:36.900
is that right oh you guys are going to know

01:38:37.460 --> 01:38:38.300
so you know Joe Rogan

01:38:39.160 --> 01:38:40.900
shit like that but boxing is really

01:38:41.540 --> 01:38:42.720
and Joe Rogan always has fighters

01:38:43.560 --> 01:38:45.300
but anyway I watch it I mean I've been

01:38:45.440 --> 01:38:46.420
watching it religiously

01:38:47.440 --> 01:38:48.920
Joe Rogan or boxing

01:38:49.020 --> 01:38:51.240
no boxing oh excuse me so but uh

01:38:51.340 --> 01:38:53.080
so he had Steven Tyler on and I watched

01:38:53.280 --> 01:38:55.060
something and it was like um every once in a while

01:38:55.320 --> 01:38:56.940
he'll put up these like a snippet and they'll

01:38:57.020 --> 01:38:58.400
say Steven Tyler talks about the music

01:38:58.660 --> 01:38:59.860
business or whatever so I watched it

01:39:00.280 --> 01:39:29.100
And that he said this is a common practice. This was pre the Metallica news. That managers will make a deal with the promoter ahead of time and say the first three rows are for me. And then they will sell those. And that's a way that managers and people like that make extra money. And it's in a lot of cases it's probably unbeknownst to the band and whatever. Metallica claims not to have been involved in this in any way. Well their manager's on tape. Oh is that right? Is it the dude? He's actually on audio. Yeah.

01:39:30.360 --> 01:39:59.500
He got busted. Yeah. And not only that, it's apparently sports, all sports teams from every league. They all do it. Fuck that. They don't do it at the ace game. People want to see. Yeah. CJ, so you have the most pure sports team in America. Nobody wants to see. No, no, that would be the Orioles. No, no. Although I think I saw that actually Detroit was doing worse than, or was it Detroit? I think it was Detroit was doing worse than Baltimore. No,

01:39:59.880 --> 01:40:29.820
The Florida games are always really, really bad. There's some others. Here's a defense for Jay, though, in the A's games. Jay will still sit in the upper deck with three other people because that's where he bought his seats that day. Even though you could go up front. Am I right, Jay? Well, I will, but my last ones I bought right behind the dugout. In any case... Because when the Giants used to suck when they played a candlestick, I would still sit in the upper deck. I wouldn't care. I was like, well, that's where my seats are. I don't care if there's like four people in the upper deck.

01:40:29.860 --> 01:40:59.540
But you know what, John? They suffer from this exact thing you're talking about. The Metallica thing. You can't. Giants tickets are off the fucking charts. And they're sold out when the season starts. Yeah. And it's not like anybody's going to spank Ticketmaster. I mean, you know, they... Has anybody actually gotten tickets from that last lawsuit? I supposedly have like 12 tickets or whatever. Yeah, and they're all for shitty shows that I don't care about. Yeah. They picked the shows for me. Oh, wow. Cool.

01:40:59.680 --> 01:41:29.640
I haven't used any of those. I think they're expired now. I think the whole thing's done. It's probably gone, yeah. It's like, you know, those class action lawsuits where the lawyers get like $150 million, you get a $15 coupon at like fucking Chick-fil-A or something. Yeah, yeah. This is why I like metal, is I don't go to a lot of arena shows ever. Oh, no, of course not. I think the last thing I went to was Tool, actually, a couple years ago. It's very rare that I'll do that. I like one of the small shows where I don't have to deal with this bullshitting.

01:41:29.760 --> 01:41:59.240
It's not surprising to me that this happened. I feel like every time I try to get an arena ticket, it's a scam anyways, because the price is a freaking high. Yeah. So I like going to shows local where I can be right up there drinking with the bands and I pay $15 and I see four bands that are better than arena rock band. And Markisan George and I have been to a show where someone walks in, she throws her purse at the stage and then she sits there and head bangs off the one of the monitors. She was my hero. Yeah.

01:41:59.680 --> 01:42:28.380
And she's like, I didn't have time to change from work. I came straight from the office. Those are the shows we see. By the way, John, I paid $50 a pop for Iron Maiden shirts, but that was not even the highest. Queen, $65 a shirt. I didn't get one, though, because they didn't have anything that was got. I didn't want one. Not that I liked Adam Lambert, but I don't want one that says Queen and Adam Lambert. The only one that they had that said just Queen was terrible. Sorry.

01:42:28.940 --> 01:42:30.540
No t-shirts worth $65.

01:42:31.420 --> 01:42:31.960
No, indeed.

01:42:32.860 --> 01:42:34.340
All right, moving on.

01:42:35.620 --> 01:42:38.000
I wouldn't even buy a hooker for $65.

01:42:38.090 --> 01:42:38.720
You wouldn't buy a what?

01:42:41.160 --> 01:42:42.160
Sorry, you cut out there.

01:42:42.340 --> 01:42:45.480
You wouldn't buy a hooker for $65?

01:42:45.610 --> 01:42:45.960
Is that what you said?

01:42:47.980 --> 01:42:49.300
Well, no, I definitely would not.

01:42:49.470 --> 01:42:50.040
But a hoodie.

01:42:50.040 --> 01:42:50.280
A hoodie.

01:42:50.730 --> 01:42:50.820
Okay.

01:42:51.180 --> 01:42:52.040
I couldn't hear you.

01:42:52.780 --> 01:42:53.560
Actually, you know what?

01:42:53.610 --> 01:42:55.980
I think my King Diamond Abigail hoodie was $50.

01:42:56.260 --> 01:42:57.000
That's what is crazy.

01:42:57.380 --> 01:42:58.120
And you know what?

01:42:58.240 --> 01:43:28.200
That's a nice hoodie. I was nervous about making some of my t-shirts $20. I was like, am I asking? Hey, what happened to you, man? You used to be cool, man. I think the queen hoodie was $75. I believe it. Yeah. All right. So Entomb Day D, which is fronted by LG Petrov, released a video for a new song, Elimination. And what's the name?

01:43:28.240 --> 01:43:31.440
name of the new album is like bowels of earth or something like that

01:43:33.060 --> 01:43:38.580
bowels of something anyway the new album is going to be coming out and uh i freaking loved this

01:43:38.760 --> 01:43:44.640
song i got goosebumps as soon as i heard it i was like oh it's bowels of earth all right

01:43:45.600 --> 01:43:50.860
yeah i agree i thought it was a good song too and i'm in an entombed mood generally speaking because um

01:43:51.840 --> 01:43:56.481
so not unlike john i saw john had done this on band camp they just i'm actually not sure when they

01:43:56.480 --> 01:44:26.460
I released them, but they did a bunch of the remastered bullshit. Full dynamic range stuff. Full dynamic range. Thank you. That's the term I was looking for. I like it, George. I raced towards it because of your reaction, and I thought it was quite grand also, so I'll be looking forward to that one. The song is good. It's fast. It's riffy. The video is also awesome because it's fucking terrible. Half the video is LG Petrov just sitting in a tour bus drinking beer and whiskey and flipping people off. And the other half is

01:44:27.640 --> 01:44:56.420
It's really bad, but so awesome. Almost to the point where you get to feeling these like flipping people's glasses. It's like, dude, I'm doing a fucking video in here. You're knocking on the window. You know what I mean? It's just like, you could have set the production up a little better. Dude knocks, he's like. Oh, that's a terrible video. The whole time. It's really bad. Have you seen, God, I don't even, I hate to admit I've even seen this, but Chris Holmes from Wasp did some solo stuff. And I haven't heard the records, but he did some videos. And one of the videos is just like that. He's literally like walking down the street.

01:44:56.480 --> 01:44:59.360
He's eating ice cream and everyone looks at the camera and shouts out one of the

01:45:00.180 --> 01:45:03.800
You should watch it. It's worth your time. I used to be a big Chris Holmes fan back in the 80s

01:45:04.540 --> 01:45:07.960
He's changed though, man. He's weird now. Yeah, he's not like drunk in a pool anymore

01:45:09.280 --> 01:45:12.080
No, but I mean now he's it's weird. He's like turned into this weird redneck

01:45:12.380 --> 01:45:16.080
I don't know what his deal is. Yeah, it's like he got like I'm serious. It's like

01:45:16.140 --> 01:45:19.960
I don't think it's dementia, but it just seems like a whole different guy in any case. Yeah

01:45:20.460 --> 01:45:23.181
into and doomed 80 80 80

01:45:23.200 --> 01:45:53.160
And I don't know too much about this, but apparently the high on fire drummer Des Kentsel is leaving the band. He says he just wants to spend time with his family. He's been with them from the get go. That's a politician answer right there. I just want to spend time with my family. That means he's done something bad. He didn't just say that, though. He said he wanted to try other things, too. He just mentioned something like that. And I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but that might be working at home to

01:45:53.240 --> 01:46:23.160
I mean you know like especially in high and fire where Matt's been sick a few times and he goes off and does his sleep stuff that's a band where if they ain't working they ain't getting paid and and so he's been so he's been sitting around for the last year doing nothing now you know it's probably like I got to have a steady paycheck dude right there was they do these rig rundown videos on YouTube which can be overwhelmingly lame but this guy's like yeah this is my you know SG and then I go through this whatever amplifier and everything and they did one with Matt Pike just last month Matt

01:46:23.200 --> 01:46:53.160
Matt Pike has lost some fucking weight dude yeah I think the toe thing must have scared the shit I'm not joking he looks totally different lost a lot of weight right on hands are hanging off yeah well they were hanging off before yeah that's because he couldn't get him up any higher no I you'll see Matt's looking scared they're getting ready to do a high and fire too nice they actually announced the replacement I can't remember who he was I was gonna say who is it do you know no yeah I didn't see that Jay you have to look it up but or maybe he was just a replacement for the tour

01:46:53.180 --> 01:47:23.140
Yeah, because Dez was one of the founding members, right? Yeah. So he's been there like over 20 years, something like that. So it's kind of sad. It is. He's made some major contributions to him. There are songs that are driven by what he's doing. I mean, maybe that's obviously the case with Jobs, but you know what I mean? Like the big lead in kind of marching. With a three piece, you got to be tight. I mean, every time I've seen them, they just killed it every single time. So, you know, hopefully whoever they're getting to replace will be able to,

01:47:23.180 --> 01:47:53.160
do that as well but we'll move on as we as we may and i'll find out who i did see who was coming so but please go ahead hey sean you into high and fire you know i don't listen to many of their records although it's you know it's kind of those bands i don't know why because i enjoy them i saw them back in 2005 and they and i was like whoa these guys are good and for some reason didn't uh i haven't listened to many of their records but you know now it's kind of on the list i'm really kind of rediscovering a lot of stuff

01:47:53.960 --> 01:48:23.080
They sound kind of like games to the morning. I'm just saying to make you listen to it. Maybe not. Throw like two metal crack on there on the next one if you want. So maybe if I listen to the records it might come out. You never know. Slight correction. What it was was there was a guy from a band called Gaytheist which I actually don't know that band who replaced him when he missed a few shows just very recently. So I don't. So I maybe.

01:48:23.200 --> 01:48:26.140
just assumed that dude was going to at least sit in that tour so no maybe they don't have

01:48:26.220 --> 01:48:31.640
anybody yet but oh okay well i guess well no soon enough tours getting coming up i think yeah

01:48:32.640 --> 01:48:40.220
so uh dave ingram has returned as the singer for benediction i don't know if anybody knows who he is but uh

01:48:40.840 --> 01:48:45.861
well he was a singer for benediction for a while and he also did some time in bolt thrower

01:48:46.860 --> 01:49:15.260
Oh, yeah, that's right. Yes. So, yeah, I would like to hear some new music from them with him. Nobody cares. Okay. Well, do you know the story of how did that come about? I don't. Did they fire the singer or something? Yeah, I didn't read it. I just saw that and said, that's cool. This is your new site, buddy? What the heck? I've been very busy this past week. Jesus.

01:49:15.880 --> 01:49:16.680
Yeah, yeah.

01:49:20.940 --> 01:49:22.000
And we're done here.

01:49:22.320 --> 01:49:27.220
1349 is going to release the Infertil Pathway on October 18th.

01:49:27.520 --> 01:49:32.520
And they released a new song called Enter Cold Void Dreaming.

01:49:33.720 --> 01:49:35.680
Jay was a little excited about that.

01:49:35.920 --> 01:49:37.220
I dug it, too.

01:49:38.440 --> 01:49:39.480
Oh, I like it a lot, dude.

01:49:39.880 --> 01:49:43.960
Well, they've stepped into the world of slightly more modern sound production.

01:49:44.700 --> 01:50:14.380
They started down in the last record, Pauldron of Chaos. Not as much as this one sounds like to me. I have high expectations for this record. I like these guys. I've always liked 1349. I've probably seen them five times. They seem to open for everybody at some point. I saw that in Bergen, Norway last summer. Sweet! Yeah, dude. Yeah, they were great. They put on a really good show. I wasn't familiar with their material, but it was kind of cool kind of going in with no expectations and seeing them play. It was intense.

01:50:15.140 --> 01:50:44.580
I have no better place to see them than Bergen. I've had the good fortune myself to be in Bergen. I didn't go to a show, but I did buy Enslaved Vertebra off the new release as well in Bergen. That was fun. Yeah, Enslaved played the same tour. It was the Beyond the Gates festival. Oh, right on. Yeah, I wish I could get back there this year. I can't make it. But it was an awesome lineup. Enslaved, Satiricon, a bunch of great bands. One band I saw there,

01:50:44.700 --> 01:51:14.120
that totally blew me away and I loved them was Malakarpaton. I don't know if you've ever heard of them. They're a Czech. I think they're a Czech band. It was a little bit like, you know, I don't want to throw labels out there or comparisons, but a little motorhead, but mixed with black metal-ish. It was just really cool. I really enjoyed it. You're speaking my language. I mean, that's right in my wheelhouse. Malakarpaton. Malakarpaton. Yeah, don't ask me this. I think I'll get the neighbor.

01:51:14.160 --> 01:51:43.800
Yeah. Well, we always like recommendations. So much stuff we listen to a lot, but so much slips through the crash. Yeah. We try. I used to try to educate people on a lot of stuff, but now I don't do it so much as people complain about how much I talk about albums. Well, no, it's just because John always had better suggestions like Ordos. Fuck you! I don't know. I mean, I haven't found a new album without you, George, in years. Yeah.

01:51:44.180 --> 01:52:13.640
I mean, we don't even bother looking for albums anymore. We just let George tell us. Why bother? Hey, I thought the whole point of the podcast was to tell people about music. So if I have a long list of things that I've been listening to, you know, that's good. My collection's growing. Thank you. But it turns out that because I have so much, nobody pays any attention to what I have to say, and so nobody hears anything. Just so you know, Sean, we have ongoing grudge matches. This is one of them. So if you randomly listen to the pod and hit fast forward, you'll hear this exact argument.

01:52:14.180 --> 01:52:43.960
I can tell this didn't start today. Nope. Yeah, we're picking up where we left off. And it will never end. No, we'll put a pin in it. We'll get back to it next time. Yeah, I dig that 1349 track, too. That Under Cold Dreaming was a pretty sweet song. So I think the album is shaping up to be pretty good. Yes, and there's kind of a cool special edition you can order of the vinyl. And they had some artists do renderings of the band. They're kind of fucking amazing. And for like $40 or $50, you can get vinyl and then one of these limited edition things.

01:52:44.180 --> 01:53:07.600
by the band is pretty cool. I don't want it unless it's a naked chick wrapped in fire popping up from the ground. Yeah, there you go. Message him, bro. You might be able to get that. On the same page. Yeah, yeah. A lot of people say that. But not Angry Metal guy. Yeah. All right, let's move on to new releases.

01:53:17.540 --> 01:53:44.120
Our first new release is close to home, but yet closer to Matt's home, really. And this is Arctic Sleep, Kindred Spirits, Keith D. This is his seventh album with Arctic Sleep. It's a Milwaukee sort of a prog doom rock kind of thing. He also he's been on the podcast before with his other band, Unearthed.

01:53:44.180 --> 01:54:13.920
Elf. Keith is a really cool guy and hope to have him on very soon to talk about this album. I like it. It's the new one. The new one's good. Yeah. It's not as metal as a lot of the stuff that we listen to on here, but it is good. Very good. Yeah. And damn that Keith for putting out that awesome two album for 25 bucks deal. Thanks. I paid twice that much, Dick. He is a nice guy. I did. Yeah.

01:54:14.180 --> 01:54:44.040
Keith is awesome. Real cool, dude. Yeah, I like Keith a lot. Good, dude. That's cool. I like the Unearthed Elf, too, but you guys are. I love that album. When I was just a listener, you guys turned me on to that album. I really like that album a lot. Yeah, and the Arctic Sleeps Good, too. I enjoyed that. Awesome. I can't wait to talk to him on the cast if I'm on. I hope so. Which, by the way, Marcus, are you in Chicago right now, right? For now. It's so sad to look at that. In fact, I think some furniture has been moved since you started, so wow.

01:54:44.160 --> 01:55:13.820
Yeah, so I'm in this room. Almost everything is out of here. It's very echoey, and I was against the other wall, but I wasn't getting a good signal. I moved my desk to the other side where it hasn't been ever. I just thought it would look better for when we try to sell the place. So I moved it back in the break just so I could get better Wi-Fi. They have Wi-Fi in Hawaii. So strange to empty your own place, isn't it? Yeah, so Sean, I'm moving to Hawaii.

01:55:14.180 --> 01:55:43.600
I live in Chicago, but I'm moving to Hawaii in October. So that's when my, the scene is empty here. That's a big change of scenery. Indeed. It really is, you know, but, uh, I think, I think you'll live through it. I love Chicago too, man. I really love it. And there's no fucking metal in Hawaii. It's going to be really hard. True. Uh, yeah, I might have to go and see Jay a little bit more. Cause he's always,

01:55:44.180 --> 01:55:46.420
is always welcome and the rumor has it

01:55:46.520 --> 01:55:48.020
or sulfate might be coming to america we'll go

01:55:52.640 --> 01:55:56.980
yeah i think on the west coast but yeah it's a big move i'm looking forward to it

01:55:57.020 --> 01:56:02.280
though because uh just like trying new things so yeah that's the lock that's that's awesome

01:56:03.260 --> 01:56:08.862
buddy so most of these new releases are not as new but i wanted to put them on here so we could talk

01:56:08.880 --> 01:56:12.900
about them. Falls of Roros, Patterns in Mythology.

01:56:13.580 --> 01:56:17.240
This is the fifth album from the Portland Main Folk Black Band.

01:56:19.080 --> 01:56:23.620
Special place in my heart just because of the style of music.

01:56:24.000 --> 01:56:26.240
And yeah, we saw them.

01:56:26.260 --> 01:56:29.460
We saw them at Decibel, actually, a couple of years ago.

01:56:30.920 --> 01:56:32.600
I saw them two weeks ago, actually.

01:56:32.940 --> 01:56:33.740
Saw them in Brooklyn.

01:56:34.900 --> 01:57:04.480
Yeah, they played with the other Wayfair from Colorado. And then they opened up for, I still can't say their name right, but Seor? Seor? Seor. Actually, it's just Seor. Yeah, nobody says it right. But yeah, that was a great show. And honestly, I was very, very impressed by Falls Aurora. They're awesome. Very cool. The album's great. I really like the album a lot. I haven't heard the album yet, but I'm going to get around to it for sure. Especially after seeing them live, I was really impressed. So yeah. I just saw Seor.

01:57:04.920 --> 01:57:34.140
And Wayfair at Atlas last week, or a week and a half ago. And Paul's Auroras was not with them? No, they were not at the show. Yeah, what's up with that? I don't know. I got screwed. That's what happened. Well, all the bands, Wayfair was great too, and then that's another band, Seward, I saw them in Norway. I had a great trip to Norway last year. Oh, that's awesome. I saw them at Midgard's Bluff, which is like, think about a Woodstock if it was black metal. Yeah, sure.

01:57:34.920 --> 01:58:03.960
So that was a lot of fun. Yeah, this was his first ever U.S. tour. Yeah, was that their first ever U.S. tour? First ever U.S. tour, yeah. So I just pictured tie-dyes and burning churches. That's so wrong. Yeah, yeah, there was no tie-dyes. It was all, you know, those jackets and all that, but leather jackets and, well, it wasn't too hot because it was Norway, but it was too hot for a leather jacket for me. There's some tainted goat's blood going around, man. Don't use it.

01:58:08.620 --> 01:58:34.760
So what did you guys think of the album? It's good. Yeah, it's good. Yeah. Yeah. It's fucking cool. Next is the second album from false called portent. They are a Minneapolis black metal band. Unfortunately, Matt is not here. Our, our, our Minnesota native, but you know, I, I kind of missed the boat on the first album when this came out. I remember some people,

01:58:34.940 --> 01:59:04.880
talking about it and going, yeah, sorry, but I didn't check it out. So when we got the promo for this one, I was like, whoa, this is actually really good. Yeah, that's excellent. Yeah, that's very good. Yeah, I think Matt and I really, we kind of cross over with some black metal stuff quite a bit, like Yellow Eyes and things like that. So yeah, I like the false first album. This one I like even more. So I think I have to spend a little bit more time with it because it's so dense, you know, that black

01:59:05.040 --> 01:59:34.500
I like to put on the headphones but yeah it's really good. This July is I think might be the strongest month so far for metal in 2019. I would agree. I really feel like that. Yeah. And next we have the new Immortal Bird album Thrive on Neglect. If you listened to our last non-midyear episode Ray was on to talk about that and I just wanted to mention it because now it is officially out.

01:59:38.059 --> 02:00:03.300
And you just hung out with Ray. I did. So this is a very close runner up to my album of the month. And the choice was a lot harder than I anticipated because we interviewed Ray. And then last week I hung out with her and Nate from Immortal Bird after the chemist show, which was fantastic in Chicago. They were awesome.

02:00:03.920 --> 02:00:32.060
And then, yeah, so I got along really well with both of them. And I ended up hanging out with Nate on Wednesday, which is the day that we named our album of the month. And we'll get to it. But all of us agreed, which is very rare. It's never happened. It's never. So I'm hanging out with Nate that day. And he saw that because, you know, we're friends on Facebook and stuff like that. He's like, what the fuck, dude? Six hours.

02:00:32.160 --> 02:01:00.880
So I had to make sure there were several hearty beverages within my belly. I put a hand on his shoulder and I broke the news as gently as I could. For what it's worth, Micah Sun, now you know, maybe less so, but what my relationship with Chemist was like. Yeah, absolutely, dude. I mean, I have to tell you, I love those guys. And I think they love me too. I think they're working hard. No, I'm not so sure about that. No, they're working hard for my love.

02:01:02.180 --> 02:01:31.860
with them in LA. But I know how you feel. It's hard to do that to somebody special when you like them. John, you want to say what's been going on with all the people that we know that have seen Chemist? Yeah, so we know the story about John BT seeing them and how they responded to Jay. Wasn't too kind. So I and Will, or me and Will, I should say, and the franchise, we saw them in DC. And I said, hey, guys,

02:01:32.180 --> 02:01:59.960
Actually, I ran into Zach and Dan on the street because I was in the bar drinking next door. And I ran into them before the show. And I said, hey, so how's it going? You got a message for Jay? And immediately the message was, hey, he can go fuck himself. So our good friend, T.R., the metal butler, and my friend for years, T.R. says, hey, I'm going to see a chemist. I said, oh, whoa, whoa.

02:02:02.160 --> 02:02:30.760
When you go see Chemist, do me a favor. I don't care who you ask in a band, but if you get a chance, especially if it's Dan and Zach, if you see them, ask them if they've got a message for Jay. And TR did. And wouldn't you know it, the same message. For what it's worth, Dan and Zach are the ones that I've probably hung out with the most. So we have our end of the year out, Sean, and everybody here rated their record really high, and I rated it number 17.

02:02:31.720 --> 02:02:59.060
So I have this ongoing, and they're like, that's probably a band that's as close to being our friends on the podcast as there are bands that have been on. Chemists. Yeah, Chemists. So this is an ongoing grudge, man. And I don't care how fucking good the next record is, I'm going to fucking tank it there. You're going to keep your wrap. Jay's going to have a number one, I'll have a 20. No, no, no. Never. They're out of my good graces. I don't care.

02:03:01.740 --> 02:03:31.680
I'll say 100% in honesty. The smile on their faces when they responded was just worth every second. You know, because they can't say enough how good a time I had with those guys. Yeah, they're so much fun to hang out with. They're super nice. They're really good. I drank with them too after their show. So I love talking to those guys. And they just happen to be my favorite band right now. So it's even extra cool that you get to actually hang out and have beers with them. And, you know, you just love their music. Their last two albums have been my number one.

02:03:33.660 --> 02:04:00.540
But just getting back to Immortal Bird before we move on, I want to say that Thrive on Neglect, man, it's exactly what I had hoped for from Immortal Bird. You know, when we were talking about our most anticipated albums for the year, they were on that, and they delivered with this album, and they level up on every aspect of the music. Riffs, songwriting, I mean, just awesome. And you're right, when you meet these people,

02:04:01.740 --> 02:04:31.700
Now we have to look at all his music in a different light, sort of. But Nate and Ray are just really cool people. And I know they worked really hard on that record, so I'm really happy that it's giving an amazing response to it. Yeah, just tune in to the year end, Sean. I'm going to shit all over your record. Number 17. With the exception of Jay, that's the nice thing about this podcast, is that we don't bring on people

02:04:31.740 --> 02:04:32.760
that we don't like.

02:04:33.920 --> 02:04:35.680
And so we don't have to go,

02:04:36.120 --> 02:04:38.220
hey, man, sorry.

02:04:38.520 --> 02:04:40.900
Because we like anybody we bring on.

02:04:41.080 --> 02:04:43.000
Therefore, they're going to probably play somewhere.

02:04:45.140 --> 02:04:46.040
Yeah, that's true.

02:04:46.120 --> 02:04:50.180
We don't do bad reviews because why would we talk about shit that we don't like?

02:04:52.040 --> 02:04:55.020
Because we do this because we love doing it and we want to be happy.

02:04:55.040 --> 02:04:55.160
Exactly.

02:04:55.520 --> 02:04:57.180
And we invite the bands that we want to talk to.

02:04:57.180 --> 02:04:58.100
The bands we're impressed with.

02:04:58.340 --> 02:04:58.440
Exactly.

02:04:59.580 --> 02:05:00.940
There's enough negativity out there.

02:05:01.680 --> 02:05:30.760
That's right. That's right. That is true. Yeah. Next up, we have the new Russian Circles album, Blood Year. This is another Chicago band. Yeah. Yeah. John. We're representing pretty hard this year, man. Yeah. They're pretty prolific, aren't they? I'm guessing they'll probably be the number one album at the end of the year from everybody since apparently we really like instrumental albums now. No. Actually, there's only one person who doesn't like instrumental albums.

02:05:30.800 --> 02:06:00.560
I like instrumental albums. I'm just giving you guys a hard time. Yeah. No, I like this one too. So fuck you. But well, as soon as we're done, George, I could be up there. All right. No, Russian circles is different in Pelican in the sense that their sound is a little more dense. You have to you have to kind of let it kind of flow a little more. I think I like it a lot. It's just I take more of lessons with Russian circles to get into them. So. Yeah.

02:06:02.480 --> 02:06:30.580
Yeah, I don't want to say accessible. It's not that. It's just that. But Russian Circles, there's more of a process to their sound. Yeah. How they get to it. But I will say this, live, they're unreal how good they are. So. Yeah, I'm hoping to catch them live before I move to Hawaii. Because I really enjoyed this album. It's another sexy blast of instrumental majesty. That's how I would put it. Are they out with somebody?

02:06:33.580 --> 02:07:00.620
They're going to tour in the fall. They're going to be in D.C. late October. As the headliner? Yeah. As a matter of fact, I think they're playing with Winham from Richmond. Doom Band. Is that on their record this year? No, but last year or the year before they had something new. They've had a couple things come up. Last year, I think. They have music. I think it was last year, John. I'm pretty sure it was last year. They're a semi-local band in Richmond.

02:07:00.780 --> 02:07:30.280
for us here in the D.C. metro area. What the fuck's in the water in Richmond, dude? That's crazy. Beer and metal. Yeah, I guess. And scum dogs. Whatever happened to that place, Jax. George would be glad to talk about Jax. No, I don't care what George says about Jax. Ever since Jax left, we don't get any more shows in D.C. No, I mean, it was a piece of shit, but it was our piece of shit. It was our piece of shit. We actually played Gates of the Morning. Well, basically, we had another band.

02:07:30.760 --> 02:08:00.280
when we were in high school. Basically the same lineup. We opened up for Possessed down at Jack's. We did Jack's and then we did B.B. King's in Times Square with Possessed. It was the guys from Sadistic Intent with Jeff. I thought it was a cool place. It was a nice place. It was a good place for metal. The sound kind of sucked most days. It got better towards the end. It was better. George is right.

02:08:00.780 --> 02:08:28.360
There were nights you were just like, am I listening to basically a toilet farting? Or there were other nights that were like, wow, this actually sounds okay. But that was the place to do. They really, you know, the cool underground metal bands would come through and they would play that. Everyone played there. Like the pound here. But let's not just gloss over the fact that Sean played with fucking Possessed here. You guys are going to give me a chance to hug him. I love Possessed. I'm a big Possessed fan. You know, we were in high school at the time. I was still 17.

02:08:29.520 --> 02:08:58.600
And those guys treated us like we were their peers. We were a little nervous. Like, oh, wow, these guys are veterans. They're not going to even want to look at us. We hung out the whole time. They're super awesome dudes. Really awesome. That's cool, dude. That's great to hear. Yeah, I think all the sadistic content guys are gone now. I think it's all completely different. Have you heard the new record? I haven't. I haven't heard the new record. I'm very curious. I think it still is the sadistic. I'm not sure, actually. No, no, no.

02:08:59.500 --> 02:09:29.480
They're all gone. It's a whole different. Maybe one of them's still around. Okay, wow. Great. But the record's fucking good. Is it really? The new one's good. Well, Jay and George had their number one, I think. No, no, no, George had their number three, I think, yeah. I was so pleased that George held it so highly. Larry Lalonde was not on. No. You know, for years he wouldn't talk about Possessed. Yeah. But there's a, they just did a documentary

02:09:29.760 --> 02:09:59.000
version of the book Murder in the Front Row, which is about the Bay Area thrash scene. And he's in that. So apparently he's willing to talk about it again. I haven't seen the movie, but I would like to. Right. Yeah, I'll check that out, too. Yeah. Yeah. Well, they did it. They played in a couple of art house bullshit things here. So it's not mass release yet. And I couldn't get tickets for some reason. But it'll be out in wide release at some point. I mean, you know, like wide release on demand or something. Right. Right. Yeah. But I'm looking forward to it. Looks like it's going to be pretty good. Yeah.

02:09:59.720 --> 02:10:29.480
And so our last new release is also the unanimous album of the month for July on the podcast. And that is Tomb Mold and their third album, Planetary Clairvoyance. Unprecedented. I mean, I did kind of predict it, but I still couldn't believe it. Yeah. I mentioned previously on a previous podcast,

02:10:30.360 --> 02:10:34.140
I like that predator sound in it that comes at the end of the record and stuff.

02:10:35.840 --> 02:10:59.240
But I also forgot to mention, they're really good at that kind of stuff, that stuff that they do, the little things they stick in. There's also this one where there's like this female voice in a transmission that you can't quite make it out what she's saying. They fucking know how to do atmosphere, man, let alone just the fucking record being fucking amazing. But it's without any references to Cthulhu, it's the most fucking Cthulhu thing out there, man.

02:10:59.300 --> 02:11:28.940
I mean, I mean, it's or, you know, like the what is it? This strange shape from outer space, whatever it is, the fucking Lovecraft. I fucking love this. And I know you guys. Yeah. You know, it's great about this is that two of the songs were released last year and nobody knew it. It was on that. Those demo tape things. Yeah. Right. And I think one of the songs is slightly different. But when I go back and listen to the album, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's from the demo tapes. So go ahead. No, I was.

02:11:29.300 --> 02:11:31.160
I just saw them a couple weeks ago

02:11:31.530 --> 02:11:32.620
at Atlas and

02:11:33.420 --> 02:11:35.140
fuck they just destroyed

02:11:35.210 --> 02:11:37.240
the place. Dude they just announced a show

02:11:37.360 --> 02:11:39.300
here at one of my favorite

02:11:39.460 --> 02:11:40.280
venues so I can't wait.

02:11:41.440 --> 02:11:43.180
Yeah I saw them live too John

02:11:43.420 --> 02:11:45.180
and the lineup was good

02:11:46.660 --> 02:11:47.540
but Tumult

02:11:47.640 --> 02:11:49.080
is just like another

02:11:49.450 --> 02:11:51.240
level above all the performers that were

02:11:51.360 --> 02:11:53.060
on that bill. It was insane.

02:11:53.280 --> 02:11:55.020
You know you see that from time to time

02:11:55.180 --> 02:11:57.340
when you go to shows where a band

02:11:57.840 --> 02:11:59.260
is just

02:11:59.280 --> 02:12:29.140
just on another plane than everybody else. And I felt like Toon Mold was. And that made every, I mean, I already loved the album. I thought it was going to be my album of the month anyways, but seeing them live and being able to perform those songs easily solidified it, you know? I'll be honest. Go ahead. I'm sorry, Jay, to cut you off again. I actually want them to take a break after this album because it's coming so close to the last one. I actually want them to let this sink in. Let it go for me, yeah. And let us absorb this and then come back.

02:12:29.280 --> 02:12:29.380
again,

02:12:30.180 --> 02:12:32.260
because they are just on a roll the last year and a half,

02:12:32.400 --> 02:12:32.680
two years.

02:12:33.140 --> 02:12:33.860
So I stand corrected.

02:12:34.000 --> 02:12:36.180
They're here on the 18th and they're not playing my favorite venue,

02:12:36.300 --> 02:12:38.300
paying a venue that my fucking band actually played.

02:12:38.420 --> 02:12:39.780
That is so fucking small,

02:12:40.000 --> 02:12:40.120
dude.

02:12:40.320 --> 02:12:40.760
But I still,

02:12:40.840 --> 02:12:41.600
I can't wait to see them.

02:12:42.260 --> 02:12:44.120
And I say my band played it because it's a small,

02:12:44.380 --> 02:12:45.220
if my band played there,

02:12:45.260 --> 02:12:45.540
it ain't big.

02:12:45.640 --> 02:12:46.080
You know what I mean?

02:12:46.180 --> 02:12:46.300
And,

02:12:46.500 --> 02:12:47.000
and it's,

02:12:47.080 --> 02:12:47.200
um,

02:12:47.800 --> 02:12:48.060
Oh fuck.

02:12:48.200 --> 02:12:48.340
Yeah.

02:12:48.400 --> 02:12:48.640
That's it.

02:12:48.700 --> 02:12:49.200
I'm so excited.

02:12:49.740 --> 02:12:50.380
You know them Sean.

02:12:51.400 --> 02:12:51.720
No,

02:12:51.940 --> 02:12:52.180
you know,

02:12:52.300 --> 02:12:52.820
I'm just looking,

02:12:52.980 --> 02:12:56.260
I'm looking for their tour dates right now to see if I could check them out.

02:12:56.400 --> 02:12:58.680
But I've heard about them because,

02:12:59.280 --> 02:13:00.900
They're an old school death metal band.

02:13:01.320 --> 02:13:01.360
Yeah.

02:13:01.720 --> 02:13:02.880
And I think, yeah.

02:13:03.240 --> 02:13:07.060
They are, but they bring the old school to the modern times.

02:13:07.520 --> 02:13:09.920
Like, I really feel like they're on the forefront of death metal.

02:13:09.920 --> 02:13:10.840
They have a lot of tricks.

02:13:11.300 --> 02:13:12.300
They've got a lot of riffs.

02:13:12.880 --> 02:13:12.960
Yeah.

02:13:12.960 --> 02:13:15.320
So it's old school, but it sounds modern.

02:13:15.840 --> 02:13:16.840
It's hard to describe.

02:13:17.100 --> 02:13:17.920
You'll see when you listen.

02:13:17.920 --> 02:13:18.580
Well, let's put it this way.

02:13:18.660 --> 02:13:22.060
If there's a new wave of American death metal, these guys are fucking Iron Maiden.

02:13:22.280 --> 02:13:22.540
You know what I mean?

02:13:22.680 --> 02:13:23.540
Like, they are the lynched.

02:13:23.620 --> 02:13:27.900
I don't know if this is going to be a new movement, but these guys, I don't know what it is, man.

02:13:28.020 --> 02:13:57.860
Some guys get it, some guys don't. These guys fucking get it. So them and Blood Incantation kind of bring Death's technical side to their death metal also. So that's kind of cool. But it's not Tech Death. No, it's not Tech Death. But they're very technical in the way they approach the play. And they're great musicians. And the drummer sings. So right there, you should just jump on board just for that alone. You got me. You got me there. I read up. There was such a good article.

02:13:58.020 --> 02:14:17.940
a little while back about the Blood Incantation record. When the fuck is that coming out? I think the end of the year. Like November or something. Oh, okay. There are two death metal albums this year, Tumult and Blood Incantation are the two that I really wanted to hear. This might be the perfect segue to the list. Oh, really? Wow. Yes.

02:14:42.400 --> 02:14:57.580
So, our top five list this time is top five albums we are looking forward to in the second half of 2019. We had to do it, you know. Sean, did you make a list?

02:14:58.560 --> 02:15:27.200
You know what? I struggled with this because a lot of the, you know, I need to be informed. I need to keep other people. Other people need to keep informing me. So I was looking forward to what you guys had to say. Sure. I will, by this delay answer, I am looking forward to the next Tool album, but that's kind of a lame answer. So I'm going to pick up some. I'm taking notes from you guys, actually. That's not a lame answer at all, dude. Not even slightly. All these fans, though, I'm taking note of.

02:15:27.240 --> 02:15:57.180
because I'm really just what I've been doing in the past. Oh, geez, I guess six months just trying to collect a database of metal, you know, and a metal revival. Making this album has been a metal revival for me. So it's been a lot of fun to just discover all these new bands. Right on. Yeah. So what we do here normally is when we do our top five, we pick five albums or whatever the topic is. And we will go round robin around the,

02:15:57.900 --> 02:16:19.860
saying what our top five is and then everybody does their top five and then everybody does their top four and we work our way down to our number ones it's all like dramatic and stuff we can pause it we can pause it you every time and you can say tool if you want and we'll just like edit it somehow yeah which which i stress again i don't think that's at all layman's record it's slightly lame

02:16:22.320 --> 02:16:23.820
I'm a little uninspired.

02:16:25.220 --> 02:16:25.560
All right.

02:16:25.700 --> 02:16:27.860
Well, we will just do what we do.

02:16:27.880 --> 02:16:30.380
And if you feel the need to jump in, go right ahead.

02:16:30.520 --> 02:16:30.620
Yeah.

02:16:31.260 --> 02:16:31.320
Yeah.

02:16:31.380 --> 02:16:34.940
If you want to choose one of ours that we've already mentioned as yours, throw it out there.

02:16:35.179 --> 02:16:36.019
Just be like, fuck, yeah.

02:16:36.599 --> 02:16:38.660
Well, is the new whole path coming out this year?

02:16:38.719 --> 02:16:39.260
It is.

02:16:39.480 --> 02:16:40.080
Yeah, it is.

02:16:40.300 --> 02:16:40.800
So there you go.

02:16:41.099 --> 02:16:41.420
There you go.

02:16:41.420 --> 02:16:41.900
I got two.

02:16:42.059 --> 02:16:42.500
I got two.

02:16:42.880 --> 02:16:43.059
All right.

02:16:43.179 --> 02:16:45.860
Which one of those would you call your number five?

02:16:46.880 --> 02:16:47.200
Yeah.

02:16:48.580 --> 02:17:18.460
Well, I think they're both kind of lame answers, so we'll see. I'm going to have a list from what you guys say right now. That's fair enough. Well, then we will go to Markisan. Yeah, my number. This was interesting to do because there's albums that are going to come out that we've already heard because we get the promos early. So I didn't put any of those. I didn't either. Or wait, you know, no, I did one. I did one. But that's right. That's reasonable, though. I mean, that's a good one.

02:17:18.480 --> 02:17:47.139
I did. So I can't anticipate it. I've already listened to it like a hundred times. Right. That's the one. But I also validate your point of view, George. Yeah, I validate my point of view more because it's me. But anyways, my number five is Harrowed. I love this. And I picked up this English band's first LP. It's called Into Inferno down at Reckless Records here in Chicago.

02:17:47.179 --> 02:18:16.219
And a lot of times the shop staff will write mini reviews on the stickers and they slap them on. And whatever they wrote for Heroin, I don't remember what it was, but it sold me because I bought the album without ever hearing it. But I was happy to discover that Into Inferno slayed. And if this second album rips as hard as that first one, I'm going to have to tie down the fucking furniture before I spend it because otherwise I'm going to destroy everything here.

02:18:16.940 --> 02:18:46.880
The Riffs are that good on that first album. So I'm really looking forward to it. Sweet. John. All right. So my number five is what Markisan number five should have been. He wanted to say, but I'll say it because this would have been on my list regardless if we had the promo or not. And that's a new Crip sermon. The ruins of the fading light. I we've all been talking about this album for a while. Yep. So it would have been on my list. Have we not gotten the promo? It's on my list.

02:18:46.960 --> 02:19:16.920
even though we got it so fair enough yeah jay so my number five i'm gonna let kind of occupy with two bands let me i'll do a honorable mention which is i really am looking forward to 1349 record and i wanted a chance to kind of but i didn't quite make my list just because there's some other strong stuff so i thought my five is a bit of a weird choice because there's there's only i would say there's a less and less chance that there'll be a studio album from these guys in fact i don't think there will be but they are going to release the live

02:19:18.959 --> 02:19:46.300
I purposely avoided that performance that they did at what festival was it? It might start with an ancient memory, right? Let's just say yes and leave it at that. Something in France or somewhere. That'll be officially released. Like I say, I sort of avoided the performance. So you'll recall that the first two portions of that are actually, I think the unwritten portion was the second. In any case.

02:19:46.940 --> 02:20:16.780
Yeah, because the third was on Monotheist. So I'm looking forward to that. If nothing else, I think it'll have a nice package, and I'm hoping there'll be a dedication to Martinane and stuff. So there you go. All right. The Tripticon, let's call it the Requiem. Nice. Cool. My number five was mentioned earlier. Entombed AD, Bowels of Earth. Bowels. Anything that says bowels, I'm interested. It's true, John. What the hell is that all about? Because in the video,

02:20:33.440 --> 02:20:46.200
All right, so we just a quick refill break. What's everybody got? I'm sticking with the same thing, but I do have a white stout downstairs that is pretty good. Dude, I love white stouts.

02:20:46.820 --> 02:21:16.700
You know, I just found out about them last week. I can't remember. The company starts with an A. It's called White Stouts Can't Jump. Nice name. One of my favorite movies, too. Yeah. It's good, though. I never even knew they existed. I didn't either until just now. I need to know about this. Definitely worth checking out. Yeah. Definitely worth it. Sticking with the single cut for now. It's good. Mark is on. Yeah. I have the Galactic Double Daisy Cutter.

02:21:16.800 --> 02:21:45.720
from Half Acre Brewing here in Chicago. And it's really good. I love the artwork. They have new artwork, which is like a psychedelic unicorn. I always have good artwork, too. Yeah. The only thing about Half Acre now, they're going to Cannes, is that it used to be when you got the big hugs, you could peel the label back, and it was all the artwork behind the label. That's right, John. Yeah. Hey, by the way, did you guys notice Brimian Horam is canning some stuff? Yes. Yeah. I was there. I was there last week.

02:21:46.800 --> 02:22:16.240
That's right. They had cat stuff when you were there. Apparently, TR lives there. He's there all the time. George, I forgot to ask, did Barb enjoy it? Because she didn't like the outside. I mean, she only tasted a little bit. Yeah, I mean, because on the outside, it looks like a tool shed where like serial killers live. Oh, yeah. No, it looks like Dexter's killed. Well, it's because it's just like, to either side of it, it's just like trees, you know, it's like forest on either side of it. And then there's just a little brown building. A forest? Really?

02:22:16.800 --> 02:22:46.780
It's a fucking meadery. I know, I know. And then, you know, there's just like a little gravel parking lot. And she's like, I don't know. And I'm like, nah, seriously. It's nice around the inside. And we went in. You know what? People might think that about a joint theory. And then you literally have to get dragged out because you can't walk. And it was such a nice place. Neither John nor JR were there. However, the guy behind the bar, as I was telling the guys, looks like Chuck Norris ate a

02:22:46.820 --> 02:23:16.020
Viking. And I hope that gets back to him. I hope one of the guys hear this and they tell him that the dude was like, I don't even know, like six, three, six, four bearded, like a little ponytail in the back. He looked like Chuck Norris ate a Viking. And he was extremely nice and took good care of us. And I did a few samples and then walked out with some mead. I paid for it, but you know what I mean. I think I'm going to open my seas of the underworld.

02:23:16.140 --> 02:23:45.960
That's what I bought. Yeah, I'm gonna crack that tonight. It's been in the fridge for a couple of days. I'm just really ecstatic that they still deliver the club stuff to Hawaii. If you don't know, Sean, mead, we all love mead. Brimminghorn is our favorite. That's the only mead. They don't have a lot of Norway, actually, for some reason. But in Denmark, they have lots of mead. But they don't have a lot of Norway. But Brimminghorn's our favorite, and they have a club where you get mead, like,

02:23:46.180 --> 02:24:16.120
Every quarter. It's every quarter, actually. Yeah. You get four meads every quarter. And so now that I'm moving, I was worried that I would not be able to get my mead, but I am going to be able to get it. And they do collaborations with metal bands, too, Sean, which is not why we like them, but that helps. I mean, but also their stuff is just so fucking good, dude. You know why that sounds familiar? I think Baraha had just did something. Yeah, they just released something with them. That's why that sounded so familiar, yeah. And they've done stuff with Enslaved, and I think they did

02:24:16.160 --> 02:24:24.020
stuff with either was it was that they did rosetta and uh oh wow the matt barlow thing the matt barlow yeah

02:24:24.280 --> 02:24:30.840
obituary we're not sorry to betray incantation they meant incantation incantation yeah so that's cool

02:24:31.200 --> 02:24:37.160
that's on my list too there we go did everybody report their drink or no i got i'm drinking a brown ale called

02:24:37.340 --> 02:24:44.120
earl gray from ardent uh jay you'd be surprised to know that they're from richmond virginia just like

02:24:44.120 --> 02:25:13.480
everybody else. Well, you know, I, as you may remember, I live in Richmond and I was like, what is it close here? What the fuck? John always tells me about the breweries in my place. Yeah. Oh, Jay, Jay has some excellent breweries by him too. So I always get jealous when I see him drinking beers from back home. Yeah. Yeah. Mr. Russian river. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I don't log all my Russian river stuff. So you don't always see it. And I don't log stuff. I've already drank. That's why I don't, you don't see a man. I tap that much, but,

02:25:18.359 --> 02:25:43.580
I don't know why you don't. You should just to be a dick. I don't know how you remember. I can't remember everything I drink. That's why I log it in. Oh, no, that's a good point. Well, actually, usually when you start to type it in, it goes, you've logged this already. Or you see it somehow. You see your rating or something. I don't know why I give a shit, but I like to put new stuff on. Jay is just like, fuck this app.

02:25:44.580 --> 02:26:14.080
No, I do it. I do it, but I just, I get stuck in ruts, dude. I've been drinking 21st Amendment in the Russian River for about like two or three, the last two or three weeks, and I just, it's nothing new there. Well, I got a new one, too, and it's nothing super special, but what was in the fridge? Sierra Nevada Hot Bullet Double IPA. Yeah, I like Sierra Nevada. That used to be my go-to, not the Hot Bullet, but the green one, whatever that is. Yeah, the pale ale. It's strong, though, George. Yeah, I mean, it's good stuff. I don't dislike anything.

02:26:14.120 --> 02:26:44.080
from them. It's just not, you know, out of the ordinary. It's a little corporate or something, but not in the worst. Yeah, yeah. Not at all. I mean, they seem like they are. It's just they're the biggest, because I don't count Sam Adams as a craft brewer, but just Sierra Nevada is just the biggest craft brewer for the most part, or one of them. Family owned, operated, and argued over. Yeah. And as Jay will know, they're from Chico, and that goes a long way. I like their stuff. Yeah. Chico, California.

02:26:45.200 --> 02:26:46.360
Pot Capital of the world.

02:26:47.160 --> 02:26:47.740
All right.

02:26:49.360 --> 02:26:51.100
Okay, let's move on to our number four.

02:26:52.421 --> 02:26:53.100
All right.

02:26:54.100 --> 02:26:55.140
Sean, you got any comment?

02:26:56.581 --> 02:27:00.860
Well, this would probably be where the Opeth album would be.

02:27:00.860 --> 02:27:03.160
I would say Tool number five, Opeth number four.

02:27:03.630 --> 02:27:04.900
So that's my contribution.

02:27:05.650 --> 02:27:09.720
But I'm taking notes of all the stuff you guys are mentioning.

02:27:10.780 --> 02:27:12.080
I'm like at school right now.

02:27:12.320 --> 02:27:13.060
All right.

02:27:13.060 --> 02:27:13.240
Cool.

02:27:13.300 --> 02:27:42.840
It might get weird now. Make sure you check out our mid-year cast, Sean. No, no, don't. Reveal our top 25. Or just go to the website and look at the list. You can do that, too. Four days later. Number four for me is Gate Creeper. Oh, that's right. They have some coming out. That's right. I spin their first record as Sonar and Deprivation pretty regularly.

02:27:43.300 --> 02:28:13.180
So I'm pretty stoked to hear some new monstrous death metal tunes from this band. I know they have recorded a track for the Decibel Flexi series, and that's coming out really soon, like next week. But that song's not going to be on the record, because those Flexi songs are never on the record. I know. But it still will be a nice preview of what's to come. We're getting a lot of great death metal this year with Tumult we mentioned and Crips. I'm actually wearing a Crips shirt. I think about it.

02:28:13.280 --> 02:28:42.900
But I'm really excited to see what Gate Creeper can add to the genre this time around. Because that album just fucking crushes that first one. Oh yeah. Right on. John. Cool. My number four. In Morning, Garden of Storms, I believe is the album. I didn't know it was coming out until a week or two ago. Yeah. So I'm a fan. I like their stuff. And so I'm kind of looking forward to it. That briefly made an appearance on my list and then dropped off. Yeah.

02:28:43.300 --> 02:29:13.060
I mean, I don't know if I have super high expectations. I just like their stuff, you know, so I'm looking forward to it. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Jay. Mine is the band who really hit their stride a couple of years ago with their last release, kind of made it onto every list except for one, I think, here in the pod. And everything I've read and the brief teaser trailer they have, this one's supposed to be the most.

02:29:13.280 --> 02:29:43.000
Cattle Decapitation ever. So we'll see. That last one was really fucking great. Yeah, it was. And they are saying, like, they are using that as their bouncing point. They're like, yeah, we kind of, like, we've culminated into what we think is the most us version of us ever. And there's a little teaser stuff on this thing, but I have high expectations. I'm sure it's going to be fucking great. Yeah, totally excited about that one. Yeah, very excited too. My number four is Cult of Luna, A Dawn to Fear. Nice. Right on.

02:29:43.979 --> 02:29:46.620
Yeah. Awesome. We saw them at Decimal.

02:29:48.880 --> 02:29:49.200
Oh, yeah.

02:29:50.400 --> 02:29:52.640
All right. Let's keep it moving. Fuck yeah.

02:29:53.000 --> 02:29:58.020
You know, I could jump in at number three because you mentioned Gate Creeper.

02:29:58.200 --> 02:30:02.260
This reminded me, my friends in Sentient Horror are released.

02:30:02.380 --> 02:30:05.240
I think it might be breaking the rules, but they're releasing the album.

02:30:05.340 --> 02:30:07.340
I think it's going to be this year.

02:30:07.380 --> 02:30:09.020
But Dan Suano just mixed the record.

02:30:10.020 --> 02:30:10.460
It's funny.

02:30:10.740 --> 02:30:10.840
Nice.

02:30:11.180 --> 02:30:40.440
They're very straight up, you know, got that suite. They're from New Jersey. You know, good friends with them. Actually, the guitarist who did the acoustic stuff, John Lopez, is in that band. And they toured with Gate Creeper in Europe. I think they toured. Is Gate Creeper European? I don't know. No. Oh, I'll look it up. I'm sure they toured with Gate Creeper. And so that reminded me of those guys. They're my good friends. And they're releasing that record, I think it is, before the end of the year.

02:30:41.200 --> 02:31:10.780
Cool. Number three. All right. Gate Creeper is from Arizona. Oh, okay. So then maybe they've been in the U.S. They might. That's like Europe. Yeah. Just with the desert. Yeah. Yeah. And less than no accents. Yeah. Yeah. That brings us to. Oh, well, fuck. The record's called Sonoran Deprecation. That's the Sonoran Desert, which, you know, we're idiots. We're idiots.

02:31:14.819 --> 02:31:15.260
So,

02:31:16.119 --> 02:31:16.800
number three,

02:31:17.560 --> 02:31:20.880
my number three is tool fear inoculum.

02:31:21.860 --> 02:31:23.060
That big announcement got me,

02:31:23.160 --> 02:31:23.260
man.

02:31:23.320 --> 02:31:24.460
I'm pretty excited about this.

02:31:25.720 --> 02:31:28.040
They've been on a favorite band of mine for a long time.

02:31:28.220 --> 02:31:33.720
I'm really looking forward to hearing the new tracks and I really hope they do more stop motion animation videos too.

02:31:35.260 --> 02:31:35.400
Oh,

02:31:35.540 --> 02:31:36.460
I'm sure they will.

02:31:36.490 --> 02:31:37.100
I think they,

02:31:37.300 --> 02:31:38.520
that's all item Jones.

02:31:38.660 --> 02:31:40.800
I'm sure you got something ready to go.

02:31:43.119 --> 02:31:43.520
John.

02:31:44.520 --> 02:31:45.900
It's already been mentioned. My number three.

02:31:46.360 --> 02:31:46.680
Colta Luna.

02:31:48.480 --> 02:31:49.060
Dawn to Fear.

02:31:51.199 --> 02:31:52.400
Big fan of the band.

02:31:52.520 --> 02:31:53.420
So I'm looking forward to it.

02:31:54.080 --> 02:31:54.680
Yeah, I'm curious.

02:31:55.520 --> 02:31:56.120
Very curious.

02:31:57.520 --> 02:31:57.720
All right.

02:31:59.020 --> 02:31:59.140
Jay.

02:32:00.100 --> 02:32:03.980
So this is this is one of those ones that we all have a little band that nobody else listens to.

02:32:04.160 --> 02:32:06.900
And this is mine.

02:32:07.340 --> 02:32:07.860
Or one of them.

02:32:08.180 --> 02:32:37.980
And I just was mentioning to you guys earlier, I got some of their vinyl releases that just came out the last month or so, finally. But Van Den Plaas has a new record coming out this year. Whoa, there's two people listening to them? Oh, I beg your pardon, John. No, no, that's only reserved for one person. There's actually two people that like them on the podcast. You're right, I take that back. There's enough crickets for both of you. But they are a great, proggy-ish, kind of, not power,

02:32:38.020 --> 02:33:05.760
But I'm excited.

02:33:08.060 --> 02:33:09.940
coming out. Very cool.

02:33:11.800 --> 02:33:16.120
My number three, I hate to have to say their name because who knows how it's pronounced.

02:33:16.360 --> 02:33:16.820
I don't know.

02:33:17.480 --> 02:33:18.960
But I'm going with Borknaggar.

02:33:19.760 --> 02:33:19.960
Yeah.

02:33:20.060 --> 02:33:20.480
True North.

02:33:21.619 --> 02:33:22.020
Borknaggar.

02:33:22.540 --> 02:33:24.040
Anyone listen to this song yesterday?

02:33:24.740 --> 02:33:24.980
Yeah.

02:33:25.300 --> 02:33:25.620
Yeah, it's good.

02:33:25.620 --> 02:33:26.020
I thought it was cool.

02:33:26.680 --> 02:33:29.720
I like Borknaggar because it sounds like it's something the Muppets would say.

02:33:31.199 --> 02:33:32.000
Or Borknaggar.

02:33:32.120 --> 02:33:32.640
Swedish shepherd.

02:33:33.979 --> 02:33:34.380
Borknaggar.

02:33:35.020 --> 02:33:35.420
Borknaggar.

02:33:35.720 --> 02:33:36.380
Well, it probably is.

02:33:36.600 --> 02:33:36.960
Borknaggar.

02:33:37.620 --> 02:34:07.280
That sounds like Twin Peaks the way you just did that from that one dream sequence. I never saw it. You know what's funny, George, is you can say it any way you want because it's literally a made-up word. It's the beauty of it. Yep. The K could be silent for all we know. Ornar-gar. Bornegar. That would blow my mind. You just call it Borkies for short. Bork. Bork. Bork. Bork.

02:34:14.219 --> 02:34:37.580
I love him so much. I loved him when I was a kid. I used to love when he came out. That brings us back around to the top again. Yeah, Sean, you got a number two. I'm coming up with them. So I'll shout out some of my friends in Antichosm. They're putting out an album called

02:34:37.600 --> 02:35:07.580
called Call the Void. And we used to play with those guys back, God, 10 years ago or so. We used to play all around New Jersey. I was in a different, I was in an old school death metal band. And those guys were, we used to just kind of run thing. We used to play shows all summer, which is a lot of fun. So, and then when I was looking for bands to play in New Jersey for the Gates of the Morning show, somehow I found them. I said, oh my God, those guys are still at it. So it was cool to reconnect with them.

02:35:07.620 --> 02:35:35.920
with them and they got a new album coming out. So I'm excited to hear that from those guys. We go way back. I feel like I got a press release about that or something. I mean, it sounds familiar. You might have. They're really working hard at it. So they're really working hard at getting it out there. So yeah, very happy for those guys. Get the promo, George. Oh, look. I swear I got something last week or so. Yeah, kind of thrashy black metal, I guess.

02:35:36.739 --> 02:36:03.320
That's a take on it. I think it's cool. It's Sean recommended. We have to listen to it now. I think we owe it to Sean. We do. Awesome. Markisan. My number two is, and I don't know if it's going to come out, but I'm putting it on the list anyway, Carcass. I think it'll come out. The recording wrapped in April. They said that on Facebook, but I haven't heard anything that indicates.

02:36:05.960 --> 02:36:35.280
And it would probably be my number one if I was sure it was coming out. But it's dropped down a spot because I don't know if it's going to make it. But yeah, they said it wrapped in April. It should come out. Should go. All right. John. As much as I love the Tumult album, I like this death metal band better. Personally, Blood Incantation, Hidden History of the Human Race.

02:36:35.340 --> 02:37:05.060
I'm hoping it comes out in December like they say. George and I were fortunate to see them play one new song off the album, which is a song that's older than anything else they've done, which is kind of funny that they're releasing it on the new album, which is Giza Power Plant, I think it was called. I'm definitely looking forward to this. Anytime you go into Despo Magazine and you say you want to make it bigger, progier, and more technical, and more death metal, I'm like, wow, that's a lot for one album. I'm in. I'm in.

02:37:05.340 --> 02:37:35.300
Yes, Progy equates to Stiffy for John. No, I mean, it's just they're, they don't, it's funny how they say that they want to do that. I think that Progy, for them, is they want to have like a 20-minute death metal song. I'm like, wow, that's ballsy, man. That's really ballsy, yeah. But like Marcasson said earlier, this year is slowly shaping up to be a great death metal year again. Yes. So I'm down. Bring it. All right. Can't say much more.

02:37:37.659 --> 02:38:04.900
I'm super excited about that last one I liked it a fucking lot and as much a fucking lot and as mentioned as mentioned I really got twice as excited when I read the write-up and decibel and I didn't think it was the baby it wasn't even that long an article on camera it might have been like a roundup type thing and the guy works they wouldn't he works in a Mexican restaurant or something but just this sheer description of of what was coming down the pike I got twice as excited so

02:38:05.340 --> 02:38:05.460
Yeah.

02:38:06.360 --> 02:38:06.560
That's.

02:38:06.780 --> 02:38:07.460
I'm the same, Jay.

02:38:07.520 --> 02:38:11.500
It was like only a few sentences like, holy shit, this is like going to be a massive album.

02:38:11.600 --> 02:38:13.920
It'll be like 38, it'll be like 37 minutes long.

02:38:16.240 --> 02:38:17.640
20 minutes song and a bunch of two minutes.

02:38:17.880 --> 02:38:18.000
Yeah.

02:38:18.540 --> 02:38:19.160
But it'd be badass.

02:38:19.860 --> 02:38:21.600
But we all like them and we all like that.

02:38:21.840 --> 02:38:22.540
That record's option.

02:38:22.980 --> 02:38:23.280
Yes.

02:38:23.530 --> 02:38:24.500
I love Starspawn.

02:38:24.710 --> 02:38:24.840
Yeah.

02:38:26.200 --> 02:38:29.000
My number two is the one that I've already heard.

02:38:29.720 --> 02:38:33.200
And that is Crypt Sermon, The Ruins of Fading Light.

02:38:33.420 --> 02:39:02.620
What is the release date anyway? September or something? Why so far out, you fucking suppose? I don't know. And it's fine you guys put it on there because I toyed with putting it on there too just because it is something I'm really looking forward to. And I'm looking forward to seeing them receive the accolades they'll deserve for this album and just hopefully get a bigger audience. Cool. All right. We are at number one now.

02:39:03.420 --> 02:39:33.280
Sean. Well, yeah, actually, you're my pressure. The no, the Borknagar, uh, actually, because, you know, I've always, that's a band I have not dug into enough. I listened to, was it the RK course or I forget. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I listened to the first three. I remember that. And I listened to the one with like, there's, I think their first one's just a barn or something on the album. Yeah. Yeah.

02:39:33.440 --> 02:40:03.380
And then Olden Domain. Yeah, yes, yes. And I love that stuff. But it's a band that I haven't dug into. Same reason, like, why haven't I listened to 10,000 Days by Tool or half of Devontowns and stuff? I don't know. So I want to get into them. And funny story is True North was actually, I have, you know, for the next album, I have a huge list of potential album names and song names. And True North was one of them. And then they put that, I remember seeing it come out that day. I was like, well, crossing that one.

02:40:03.420 --> 02:40:33.100
off the list. Somebody else did that, too. It was Witchery. Witchery, yeah. That was a great song, too. That was a great fucking song. It is a great title for a song. It's a great title, yeah, it is. We might keep it as a song, but it's definitely not going to be the album now. And I'm glad that if anybody's going to steal it, those guys, that's cool. Fucking stealers. Just change it to False North. No, it'd be False South, not True North, False South. Ooh, that's good. I like that.

02:40:33.420 --> 02:40:35.420
The opposite of South.

02:40:38.000 --> 02:40:39.060
North of Hell.

02:40:41.580 --> 02:40:42.080
That's me.

02:40:42.880 --> 02:40:43.760
My number one.

02:40:43.900 --> 02:40:45.320
I think it might be a little surprising.

02:40:45.660 --> 02:40:47.460
Actually, I've never talked about this band with you guys.

02:40:47.640 --> 02:40:49.660
I'm sure you guys probably know of them.

02:40:50.180 --> 02:40:50.720
Bon Jovi?

02:40:51.820 --> 02:40:52.220
Yes.

02:40:52.540 --> 02:40:54.560
Living Out of Prayer reprised.

02:40:55.220 --> 02:40:56.160
Still Slippery When Wet?

02:40:56.560 --> 02:40:58.120
Slippery When Rich.

02:40:59.300 --> 02:41:00.280
Slippery When Rich?

02:41:00.320 --> 02:41:06.700
I actually know all the lyrics to that album New Jersey it's really disturbing every

02:41:06.800 --> 02:41:12.420
single song that's kind of like you being a big old Bette Miller fan no that that was me just

02:41:13.500 --> 02:41:17.620
that mentioned hero or she mentioned hero or something that just slipped in my head

02:41:18.100 --> 02:41:22.560
unfortunately definitely wasn't Jay oh I see I said that was a text conversation

02:41:22.720 --> 02:41:51.500
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I got you. Stop, stop, stop. Move on. What's your pick? My number one is Atlantean Codex. Really? Yes. I mean, I don't know them well, but I've liked some stuff. They're great. This is one of my favorite reactions from anybody in the pod. Really? Really? Okay.

02:41:52.720 --> 02:42:20.700
That's the same as saying, fuck you. Really? Should I really go back and listen to this? Yeah, the Meph-Rash is not bad. Lanting Codex is really good. My friend Garrett, that was Sean, that was his number one album for mid-year. My friend Garrett turned me on to this band. They're just like awesomely epic. It's been about six or seven years since they did the last album, The White Goddess.

02:42:22.880 --> 02:42:52.660
was coming until they announced it about a week ago. So I'm very excited for them to do it. It's like very heroic music with soaring guitars and vocals. The lyrics are like epic fantasy tales. It's kind of like a mashup between, I'd say, Iron Maiden and Blind Guardian. Wow. Yeah. You might dig it, dude. And there's shifts to folk metal and doom in it. Plus, sometimes they put trumpet blasts in there.

02:42:52.720 --> 02:43:22.280
and there's quotes from Winston Churchill on the last album. It's like the most epic albums. It doesn't go into power metal. The vocals aren't power metal. It's like traditional metal mixed with other things. Sean, who were you saying you're a big fan of? Well, Atlantis. I love anything to do with Atlantis. I don't know if that's an allusion to Atlantis or something. Once he said the name, Atlantean Codex,

02:43:22.760 --> 02:43:24.420
I was kind of invested already.

02:43:24.580 --> 02:43:26.480
And then the description, he just gave.

02:43:26.560 --> 02:43:27.840
You said something about Blind Guardian.

02:43:28.200 --> 02:43:29.240
Oh, Blind Guardian.

02:43:29.310 --> 02:43:29.880
I just love.

02:43:30.200 --> 02:43:30.400
Yeah.

02:43:30.760 --> 02:43:31.400
Huge fan.

02:43:31.540 --> 02:43:31.620
Yeah.

02:43:31.760 --> 02:43:32.740
Huge fan of Blind Guardian.

02:43:33.240 --> 02:43:33.360
Yeah.

02:43:33.780 --> 02:43:36.040
Well, that's why I asked because, you know, they've got a record coming out.

02:43:36.040 --> 02:43:36.900
They've got a record coming out.

02:43:36.900 --> 02:43:37.620
I just don't know that.

02:43:37.860 --> 02:43:38.220
You know what?

02:43:38.420 --> 02:43:38.540
Yeah.

02:43:38.660 --> 02:43:42.900
I haven't heard probably their last, you know, since Night of the Opera.

02:43:43.120 --> 02:43:45.380
I've only dabbled with them for some reason.

02:43:45.760 --> 02:43:46.620
Once again, I don't know why.

02:43:46.640 --> 02:43:47.400
I'm missing much.

02:43:48.100 --> 02:43:48.200
Yeah.

02:43:48.540 --> 02:43:48.740
Yeah.

02:43:48.830 --> 02:43:50.780
I was going to say, that's pretty much all of us.

02:43:50.780 --> 02:43:52.460
I feel like that's what really happened.

02:43:53.460 --> 02:44:22.160
That's the impression I got. So I have really, you know, my favorite album by Blind Guardian is the live double disc. Because they execute that stuff so perfectly live. Right after Middle Earth, that live album? Exactly. Yeah. And they put out a DVD. Yeah, that's awesome. And I think, well, I think that was it. It was the one where there's like, you know, there's, I love this, there's an elf and a dwarf standing outside of a bubble. You know? That's every Blind Guardian. That's every album. That's every album.

02:44:22.500 --> 02:44:52.480
Yeah, they're in front of a pub. Yes. It's the motorhead record with the snaggletooth guy on it. You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, they really Atlantic Codex really stresses story like crafting stories with the music. So I think you kind of dig that Sean just based on whatever from yours. I'm gonna have to hear that. I'll send you guys the white goddess Sean if you want to friend me on like Facebook or something like that. I'll send you guys the album on MP3 or hand put in the Dropbox for us. But

02:44:52.500 --> 02:45:22.080
Yeah, I love it. And it's been a long time since I've heard him. Like I said, it's been like six or seven years, I think, since the last LP. Cool. John. So, George, before you go any further, we heard Winston Churchill's name and you kind of quote it from. We will never surrender. I was almost thinking like we should change that for the Men on this podcast. We will drink your beer. We will eat your food. You know, kind of that intro. Yeah, exactly. Ours will be just, you know, beer.

02:45:22.100 --> 02:45:51.820
We will take his pants off. We will keep drinking more beer. Every single time I see Iron Maiden and they play the Churchill speech, I get a tear. If not two. I just get ready to just like slay. It's so awesome. Right. So I don't even know why I have to mention my number one because everyone else should know what it is. Duh. I didn't even think of it until you said that. Yeah, isn't that funny? Me either.

02:45:52.080 --> 02:46:21.420
Yeah, now I can do. Which, by the way, I love the cover. It's very King Diamond-like. But that's also done in miniature or something. I think it's hand up. There better be a naked chick on it. She's in one of the windows. But anyway, if you don't know, it's, yes, I'm still looking forward to the new opus. I'm going to get you a T-shirt that says that. It's like, have you seen this T-shirt that says, yes, I know guacamole is extra. I'm going to get you one of the, yes, I'm still looking forward to the new opus. I know people are so down on their last few albums.

02:46:22.100 --> 02:46:51.980
They're my favorite band. It doesn't matter. I'm still gonna check it out. And I did like the new song. I know George wasn't so big on it when he and I talked. Whatever. It is what it is. I really like Sorceress. I just wanted to be more metal, but I still really liked it. And that's an awesome live. So. Marcus, you just hit it on the head. I think people would not care about the growling or the harsh vocals if the guitars were just more metallic. Yeah. I think that's all boils down to. Just give me a something for sure. That's stated though, as with all musicians.

02:46:52.100 --> 02:47:20.000
It's more power to Michael. Do whatever the fuck he wants. And I'm not going to say anything dismissive. I mean, I had a love affair with Opeth myself. And to be fair, the one I listened to, I think, was the Swedish version. So I was like, oh, I don't know what I'm going to say. Did you listen at least to nine minutes where the English version started? Because they released it back to back. She's like, no. I was like, God bless. Just go back and start at nine minutes.

02:47:21.080 --> 02:47:50.940
Yeah, you know what? I support him for that, too. Good for him for doing that. I mean, he's a fucking Swedish guy, for fuck's sake. I mean, the whole record is coming out in Swedish, isn't it? Andy? Yeah, yeah. I'll say this. As much shit as they get, they put out like nine fucking awesome albums in a row, and now they're getting shit for like the last couple albums. I'm not giving them shit. I just don't like it as much. No, no, I'm saying in general. And it's not because it's not growly. They make a boatload of shit, so. Fans always get shit for trying new things, because people just want the same shit over.

02:47:51.120 --> 02:48:21.040
over. It's not like the Black album that came out like 30 years ago, and it's just been the same fucking shit since then, you know? So. Yeah. And they're true fans, though. Stop busting on my Metallica. I'm looking forward to it, too, John. So. And you know what? They're still fucking huge, dude. Seriously. You know what I mean? Like, seriously. Michael doesn't have to worry about it. Let him have his fun. And there's a lot of people that are going to follow him down that road. So. Yeah. It's funny, George. They just were always talking about. They just played. You were saying you weren't big on some of the lineup for Valken this year. They just played, I guess, what, last night?

02:48:21.680 --> 02:48:50.400
So, and I have a bunch of friends that were watching the E-cast or whatever you want to call it. Oh, they were at? They were at Valken, yeah. Oh, really? Yeah. That Gates to the Morning album sounds exactly like OPEC. I don't know if you guys know that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. All right. Why don't we go to Jay's number one? Just that I, you know, I tried to play fair like Marcasson did.

02:48:51.840 --> 02:49:21.060
and stick to things that had actual release dates, but, or that we could feel confident about, but maybe I'll just double down because I want it to come out this year, but up carcass is my number one. I mean, I, I gotta believe that it's going to happen because they finished in April, as you point out, they started recording in November. So sure. And I don't think, I think they live off their own timeline. You know, I mean, I think they're like, yeah, you know, cause I, I even asked, remember I got, when I got to interview him, I asked him and, and he was like, um, no, I mean, I'm totally

02:49:21.100 --> 02:49:49.940
We should be, you know, well, Jeff told them. Jeff is like, no, it's not the way it works anymore, dude. We don't. Yeah. And Jay, they're big enough where they can do a quick turnaround like Tool. Like they just announced it's coming out this month, you know what I mean? So they could do that for Carcass as well. Yeah, I agree. Which, by the way, let me just remind you quickly and briefly that because I just went to their Facebook page to try to find some confirmation. Of course, it's not there. But again, none of us is going to this. August 16th through 18th, Psycho Las Vegas.

02:49:50.620 --> 02:50:19.700
Original Misfits, Opeth, Electric Wizard, Triumph of Fucking Death, Carcass, Aransi Pazuzu, Rotting Christ, 1349. Jesus Christ, dude. Why did not one of us buy tickets to this fucking festival? Do you want to know why? Because it's in Vegas. Do you want to know why, Jay? Because I'm going to get to see Aransi Pazuzu at the Metro Gallery, which is basically the size of this room I'm in right now, with Horrendous. So, by the way, John. When is that, John? October 17th.

02:50:20.640 --> 02:50:25.660
I got an email today I didn't read it something about interviewing a Ronsi Pazuzu

02:50:26.779 --> 02:50:31.760
boing shut the fuck up really we're down I mean I get we're gonna need

02:50:31.840 --> 02:50:36.620
I get stuff from everybody for us well I mean that's still that's still I mean

02:50:37.400 --> 02:50:42.740
fuck yeah fuck do you spell around see you know you keep you keep going you keep going George and I'm gonna say some more

02:50:45.040 --> 02:50:47.040
is it two N's or two S's

02:50:48.340 --> 02:51:16.840
So, okay, I'm going to keep talking. Electric Wizard, High on Fire, Goat Horror. Jay, it's a total killer lineup this year. It's crazy. Wait, there's more? Holy shit. Old Man Bloom, who I love. I'm just trying to go through each day here. How are you not going, Jay? I'm a fucking moron, I guess. I mean, to be honest with you, if I had known earlier that Triumph of Death was going to be there, I would have gone without question. Jay, when is that taking place? August.

02:51:17.520 --> 02:51:46.880
16th through 18th with a pre-show in the 15th. Two weeks. I mean, seriously, dude, it's Psycho Vegas. Honestly, you just can't believe it, looking at this lineup. I mean, the fucking original Misfits are fucking headlining Saturday night. Is it me, or is that festival getting better every year? It's getting better every year. You'll remember, I almost went last year, but thank God I didn't, because Witchcraft canceled, and that was the whole reason, biggest reason I was going to go. They canceled for visa purposes. And you can go to Vegas, you can do the whole Elvis,

02:51:47.040 --> 02:52:16.700
staying when you're there, which is a lot of fun, regardless of how shitty your weekend may turn out to be. But also, you can stay. The hotel is the venue. Yeah, I know. That's what's awesome. You can stumble back to your fucking room. Never want to go outside where it's hot. Stumble to your elevator to get to your room. Vegas is horrible, but if you're going for a specific event, you're going to have a good time. If you mix it with beer and metal, dude, it's going to be fear and loathing in Las Vegas. You know what I mean? And that's the only Vegas. You know, that's funny, Mark, because I grew up in Northern California.

02:52:18.080 --> 02:52:46.720
I would go to every day of the week over Vegas. Any day. I love Reno. Can I assume everybody's read Fear and Loveling in Las Vegas? Yes. I have to tell you a funny thing about it briefly, which is I don't work there now, but this library I used to work at is not my current library. Kept that book in the travel section. I don't think it was a sarcastic joke. And I always pictured this family going on vacation being like, what the fuck?

02:52:46.820 --> 02:53:16.700
is this. Did they have a second copy like in the alternative section too? No, that was it. It was just one copy. That's really great. Hey, do we have any like honorable mentions or anything? Anyone have those? Maybe I could do my number one. Oh, I'm sorry. I apologize. Oh, I thought it was just going to be Opeth. I just assumed. No. It has been mentioned though. Carcass or Calcariot.

02:53:16.840 --> 02:53:45.600
Capitation, maybe? Cattle Decapitation, Death Atlas. The record was great, dude. I'm glad that made your list, George, because I went back and listened to Anthropocene again after that trailer came out. I was reminded by how very fine a record that is. Yeah, so good. First metal show I ever went to, line up, Vader was supposed to play, but I don't know what happened to them. And so some band from Philadelphia, Vicious Circle filled in.

02:53:45.600 --> 02:54:15.560
And I don't know who they are really, but they were good. They were good that night. I was 14. My dad drove me in. It was at BB King's in Times Square. So it was supposed to be Vader, but it ended up being Vicious Circle. Then it was Cattle Decapitation, Goat Whore. And I love the first Goat Whore record, which is In the Black. I'm not a huge fan of what they did after that album, but that album is a black metal go-to for me. Maybe even top five.

02:54:15.979 --> 02:54:45.420
I love it so much. Then Misery Index, who I love too, and Napalm Death. That was my favorite. That's a great fucking show. Is that a festival they had there that night? No, it was, yeah. It was supposed to be Vader, Cattle Decapitation, or Misery Index, and Napalm Death. A hell of a show. No filler there. No, no filler at all. 2004. I don't, you know, I don't know. You might want to check in on Cattle Decapitation. They've grown, man. I know, but you know what? I haven't really paid too much attention.

02:54:45.600 --> 02:55:13.960
them. Not that I don't like them, but I haven't. Maybe I should really. You might try Anthropocene Extinction. That's a killer lineup and way cheaper than a Metallica scam. By the way. It was probably 20 bucks back then. Yeah. All right. Small venue, too. I'll find shows, George. Yes. All right. Let's move on to what we are listening to lately.

02:55:37.860 --> 02:55:44.780
For Sean, this is basically where we just throw out some albums that we've been listening to, you know, recently.

02:55:44.820 --> 02:56:12.560
It pretty much speaks for itself. Right. Well, like I said, I've actually been listening to a lot of the bands we've been compared to. Like I said, Acro Kaki is now one of my favorite bands ever. I can't believe I missed them. We saw them at Death Fest a couple years ago. Are they still active? Yeah, yeah. They had a new album out like two years ago. Two years ago we saw them? I think two years ago. Yeah, it was two years ago. That's good to know. It's a great album. Yeah.

02:56:16.060 --> 02:56:44.760
I have an album that I listen to every summer ritualistically by Morgion, which is, I might say this wrong, but cloaked in ages, crowned in earth. Yeah. Yes. I love, I mean, I don't even know if anybody knows about that record and it's just absolutely one of my favorite albums ever. Sean, we know everything here on the Middle East. We know everything. I also like Among Majestic Ruins. Thank you very much. Oh yeah. That's the, yeah. Right. And then Solonaria.

02:56:44.820 --> 02:57:11.260
I think they had as well. But they're a great band that I feel like is overlooked. Then, you know, all the bands we played with. I mean, I've been listening to The Windfare from New Jersey, Inephrins. And then for some reason, I always come back to this band all the time. I love X-Toll. I've been listening to X-Toll lately. And that's among the metal stuff. And then, you know, I like to, late at night, I like to listen to Sade, you know.

02:57:14.080 --> 02:57:40.420
For what it's worth, I've got some friends coming over for margaritas tomorrow, some people I work with, and I make sure to put Smooth Operator on my Yacht Rock kind of fucking playlist, you know what I mean? I love that song. Did I ever tell you that when I first heard Smooth Operator, I thought Sade was singing School of Piranha? I don't know how you even get that. School of Piranha. School of Piranha.

02:57:45.100 --> 02:58:12.900
That's awesome. I like your version better, Marcus. Thank you. That's like an excellent song. Do you know that song, Zombies? I don't even know the name of the band. It's an Irish band. Cranberries. Years ago, I was driving around in the car with my little niece. She's grown now, but she was just a little kid at the time. We were driving around, and that song came on the radio. She was singing along with it. We drove for a mile or two, and I turned it down to here. She was going, Pee your pants.

02:58:17.300 --> 02:58:43.880
I love that that was her interpretation of it. It was like six. Yeah. That's awesome. Also, I wanted to point out too, Sade does a fucking really, really beautiful live version of Thin Lizzy's I'm Still in Love With You. Fuck, it's so good. Wow, that I did not know. Find it on YouTube, it's beautiful, dude. She's incredibly talented. Smooth Operators are a hit, and that's an amazing song, but there's so many other,

02:58:44.000 --> 02:59:13.820
Good ones that I've got, you know. The whole Love Deluxe thing and all that, yeah. I mean, that's the one, really, yeah. Where's Will when you need him? He would not be happy right now. I'm not a fan. Yeah, well, no, I'm all over the place, and I would listen to, I think we did an interview recently where it said, what type of music would you, would, do you listen to that would surprise metalheads? I was like, oh,

02:59:14.040 --> 02:59:43.280
I got a lot for you. We got skeletons in our closets too. Trust me. I got Madonna and Lady Gaga in my closet. What are you talking about? Actually, that fits because she's really kind of a jazz singer if you think about it, dude. And you having a jazz background like you do, she really has jazz kind of influence to her style of singing. I'm a big jazz head, so I'm constant. But I will say Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band is probably my most, my favorite contemporary jazz group. Okay, I'll look it up. Yeah, they're incredible.

02:59:43.600 --> 03:00:13.580
Stop it. The crickets merely means we have no idea what you're talking about. No, it's not bullshit. Hey, Sean, you and I need to talk offline because I'm a huge Fusion fan. Yes, yes. So we'll do that. Which, by the way, John, I watched, I don't know why I watched this too, but the other day I watched Jimmy Page and duck Jeff Beck into the Hall of Fame again for some fucking, I don't know why I watched it, but, and it made me immediately go grab Blow by Blow and put it on. Oh, fuck. Well, I'll say one of the songs on the album, and you probably won't be able to tell it, but one of the songs on the album,

03:00:13.600 --> 03:00:43.500
One of the songs on Return to Earth was influenced by Because We've Ended as Lovers. Oh, fuck yeah, dude. Such a good song. There's nobody better than him. And I also then that fell over into Live at Ronnie Scott's after that, which is just I got lucky to see that tour. It was so fucking good. So, yeah, I was lucky enough to see Jeff Beck live once and see Alan Holdsworth once. And I figured I don't need to see anybody else play guitar ever again. You're done.

03:00:43.620 --> 03:01:10.040
I saw those two guys. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. Uh, Marcus, what have you been listening to brother? Uh, what I've been listening to. So, you know, with the news of a merciful fate reunion, I've been playing their entire catalog. So specifically, uh, Melissa and don't break the oath. I need a yellow shirt. I don't really wear anything but black, but I kind of want that. I got you back. I got you back, buddy. I'll, I'll hook you up. I know a guy who sells Canadian largest.

03:01:16.220 --> 03:01:43.580
Atlantean Codex, The White Goddess. I mentioned this earlier. So since it's been like seven years, I'm throwing on their last album. And I just love that one. I've been listening to an album by the group Mayor. I don't know if you guys know this band. So they only did one album. It's this post-metal slash progressive sludge EP from 2004 that was released on Hydra Head. And I thought it was really ahead of its time. I loved it when it came out.

03:01:43.620 --> 03:01:47.900
came out and I revisited a lot but a couple days ago Decibel posted a

03:01:49.419 --> 03:01:53.560
retrospective on the album saying like this is an album you need to know about and I

03:01:53.900 --> 03:02:04.920
definitely agree with that so I've been rocking that out again it's a real shame that that band broke up although I did hear that a couple members like reformed but I haven't heard any new music from them

03:02:06.740 --> 03:02:35.160
Outis by Ceremony of Silence. This is a new album that I missed earlier in the year. Like I said, we can't listen to everything. We try to. But sometimes we're going to miss things. Some stuff's going to go through the cracks. But if I would have heard this, I probably would have put it on my mid-year list. It's tight, bombastic shot of blackened death with a healthy injection of

03:02:35.180 --> 03:02:38.460
technicality. I just love the album so much.

03:02:39.540 --> 03:02:45.240
And I've also been listening to a lot of albums from your guys' lists, right?

03:02:45.380 --> 03:02:48.020
Just like Metal Heads podcast listeners.

03:02:48.840 --> 03:02:56.680
We did our top 25, and there were records that you guys mentioned that, you know, I hadn't heard or I didn't give a good shake to.

03:02:56.800 --> 03:03:03.360
So one of them that I've been listening to is They Came With Sunlight by Saver.

03:03:04.280 --> 03:03:33.141
Matt mentioned that on his list and I really like this album it's like super chunky like chunky peanut butter heavy riffs to this album it's it's uh it's quite good and I don't think I would have ever even found it if not for Matt so I still have to go through everybody else's lists but um I love that part of it because even though we're on the Middleheads podcast and we get all these albums and we're always looking for new albums that we can talk about on the cast you still get surprised by everybody's picks

03:03:33.960 --> 03:04:02.840
whenever we do an episode. So thanks, guys. Right on. John. So my first one, we've mentioned already, Arctic Sleep, Kindred Spirits. And I want to mention this because I sent George a message today because we were discussing, you know, for tonight. I don't know what we were talking about. And I sent him a quick text. You're talking about John. Yeah. That guy in the bottom left-hand corner.

03:04:04.619 --> 03:04:33.000
That guy does the new yard in his covers. And I sent George a message and it said, damn that Keith. And Keith from Arctic Sleep had just posted a thing about he had a special on his last two vinyl albums for 25 bucks. I was like, well, I'm not going to turn that fucking down. Because I have already not on vinyl. I didn't. You know, I'm a junkie. I got a problem. So I was like, I'm going to jump on that. But what I found funny is if you know anything about the new album,

03:04:33.140 --> 03:05:02.380
He dedicated it to his cat. Am I right, George? Yes, yes, yes. Yoda. Who had fortunately crossed the Rainbow Bridge while he was doing the recording. I literally hit purchase or send and my cat walked in and yelled at me literally as I did that. And I was like, okay, that's way too much synchronously, which we've been talking about this whole episode. I think you just gave Sean a new song. But here's the thing. As anyone who's a cat owner knows,

03:05:03.140 --> 03:05:33.060
It just kept going on and on and on. And then she got pissed and left because I wasn't paying attention to her. So typical. Anyway, that's my diatribe about Arctic Sleep. Russian Circles, I've listened to a lot even though it just came out. I've spun it a few times. Obviously, the two mole, I've spun a ton of times. There's a band called Wait. It actually stands for We Are in Transit. It's an EP that just came out. And George did get me into this band, and I'm not being sarcastic when I say that. Two of the guys are from the band.

03:05:33.180 --> 03:05:33.260
I don't know how to exist.

03:05:34.280 --> 03:05:34.840
Oh, wow.

03:05:35.430 --> 03:05:36.000
I remember that.

03:05:36.210 --> 03:05:36.320
Yeah.

03:05:36.390 --> 03:05:39.920
They just put on an EP, and it sounds sort of like exist.

03:05:40.090 --> 03:05:41.500
So I was totally down with that.

03:05:42.340 --> 03:05:43.240
And they're a local band.

03:05:43.440 --> 03:05:43.940
They're in Baltimore.

03:05:45.080 --> 03:05:56.540
A shit ton of made in getting ready for the show, because a band like that, I've listened to a million times, but I've taken some time off, and it was good to go back and comb through the catalog.

03:05:57.640 --> 03:06:27.180
And some band from North Jersey, I don't know, some Tolkien reference, Gates to the Morning, Return to Earth. I've spent a lot of time listening to that album. Actually, I've listened to it a lot recently. Very cool. Cheers. Well, in preparation for the pod and out of sheer enjoyment, I too have been spinning that record. I like to make sure I know what the people we have on are doing. And sometimes I'll put it on and get the gist. Sometimes I'll put it on and I'll keep putting it on. And that record's been on a few times this week.

03:06:28.159 --> 03:06:57.600
Very fine album you've put out there, sir. Thank you. I also received, as mentioned previously, Vandenploz finally gave the vinyl treatment to a couple, well, not their whole discography. In fact, I wish they'd gotten a couple of the newer ones, which I really like, but I picked up two of those, my two favorite of their older ones. One's called Christo or Christo, I've never been sure, but how you pronounce it, another one's called Beyond Daylight. Christo. I think it's vaguely based on the money of

03:06:57.620 --> 03:07:27.600
The Count of Monte Cristo plus a serial killer or something weird. I really want that sandwich right now. Oh, that would be Crisco, but either way. Both albums are awesome, too. I love both albums. Yeah, Beyond Daylight is the other one that I got. And that one is vampire-themed, which is maybe why I was thinking of whatever. And there's a kind of poppy, fun, pragy stuff, but there's a cover version of...

03:07:27.640 --> 03:07:56.940
Point of No Return on their canceled song. And they do a very fine version of that. So I've been spinning those every evening. And I have been listening to Cattle Decapitation again for some reason. That record went back on, not just The Leader. I think it just wants to start spinning with me. I'm stuck with it for a while. Not unlike Marcus' song, it doesn't take much to push me into the Merciful Fate world. A lot of new stuff, too, Mold, this and that, a lot of those things. But the other thing most worth mentioning is,

03:07:57.220 --> 03:08:26.820
I fall into these stupid fucking rabbit holes, you know, like you do. And I was listening to some live Deep Purple thing the other day. And then I start doing this Richie Blackmore thing where I try to find all because they they've released a lot, a lot of live stuff. That's like post digital era. So it's just on digital. And then I start falling down the stupid fucking rainbow live fucking rabbit hole. And then I start falling with the Ronnie James deal live rabbit hole. So I have listened to so much live Dio slash rainbow slash Deep Purple in the last two weeks.

03:08:27.880 --> 03:08:57.080
And I obsess over it. I get down to these littlest parts. I'm like, oh, he does that a little different there. You would fucking hate hanging out with me, dude. Trust me. I'm so fucking weird about that shit. And so I'm one of them. We hung out with you, Jay. We kind of like it. As long as we're not in the hotel room. Right. Yeah, indeed. So they all bleed into one another. And right now, my current live album obsession is Dio's.

03:08:57.120 --> 03:09:26.700
Finding the Sacred Heart Live in Philly, which is a double one, which I just ordered on vinyl and got and sat and just listened to that today. So. Dude, I love trivia question, by the way. That was pretty good one. Yeah, I knew that would stump people. I almost put up a different one where they on that same album to do a version of Mistreated, which is a deep purple track. Oh, but with Ronnie James Dio singing it. And he does for the first 30 seconds, he does kind of an amazing David Coverdale.

03:09:28.460 --> 03:09:56.780
I was going to put it up just to fuck with you guys, but I decided not to. But I've got more of those coming. I'm going to do some more naming tunes. But they're all going to be like that. Sort of like, I know who this is, but why don't I know it? Because I want to prove to you I know more about music than you do. So Sean, he posted. Easy to do with the fucking case in front of you. We have a message board for Metalheads and we talk about stuff pretty much every day. And Jay's been posting trivia. And I actually got that one. But I didn't get it right away.

03:09:57.120 --> 03:09:59.140
I think it was like the second hint

03:09:59.380 --> 03:10:00.480
like got it for me

03:10:01.100 --> 03:10:02.900
but it wasn't that descriptive

03:10:03.090 --> 03:10:04.760
it was just like as a singer we all love

03:10:05.300 --> 03:10:06.300
but now that stated

03:10:07.000 --> 03:10:08.500
it was Dio Randolph

03:10:08.790 --> 03:10:10.120
which was you know from like

03:10:10.340 --> 03:10:11.580
78 or something

03:10:12.110 --> 03:10:13.420
did you not like my response

03:10:14.040 --> 03:10:14.880
I loved your response

03:10:15.100 --> 03:10:16.640
I loved all your responses

03:10:16.980 --> 03:10:18.600
you went Graham Bonnet

03:10:18.660 --> 03:10:20.920
who's a little closer to my heart these days than he used to be

03:10:21.400 --> 03:10:22.300
but it's Dio

03:10:22.580 --> 03:10:24.080
it's the Rainbow on stage

03:10:24.520 --> 03:10:26.562
1976 live recording which is fucking

03:10:26.560 --> 03:10:56.520
Hey Jay, just real quick. I didn't have a chance to listen to it because I didn't see it until I got to work. Immediately, Dio popped in my head. I was like, this is way too easy. And then I saw you guys saying, I got it right. Yeah, I didn't see it until I woke up that morning. I was like, oh yeah. I actually thought John would get it right away, but Jay posted it pretty late and I'm pretty much the only one who was up at that time. Well, yeah. Markisan, no. I'm actually, I told Jen this the other day. I was like, yeah, I start work at 5.30 in the morning and I was like,

03:11:02.100 --> 03:11:26.540
I promise I'll wrap it up but I that all leads into I think some stuff I'm going to write for the webpage I had done like an I love Ellis Cooper thing but for Facebook I'm going to do something without it being conceited called how to listen to and I'm going to do people and I'm going to point out some of my favorite like deal moments like awesome and so the live stuff like I would point out to you for those of you who don't know the apex of children of the sea on

03:11:26.700 --> 03:11:56.560
stuff like that. Oh, that'd be great. So love to see more like written stuff in there. That's why I started that interview series. So I'm going to do it. I'm going to do both deal and, and, uh, Richie Blackmore to start and just go through their careers through all their bands and point out like the 36, 30 seconds of, of each record that I know is sheer brilliance. So that's kind of what I've been doing. All right. Off to you. Um, so the first, uh, the first one,

03:11:56.680 --> 03:12:26.340
I've been listening to. I just listened to today. I don't know how to pronounce this shit. Might make Marcus sound hungry. I'm going to go with Brothog. Oh my gosh. Brothog? Yeah. It's B-R-O-T-T-H-O-G-G. I'd slap that on a sandwich now. Or maybe it's Brothog. I don't know. But the album's called Echoes of the Past. Are you at a brewery or something? I don't know. I agree. It sounds like Me Too form somehow one way or another.

03:12:31.439 --> 03:12:32.840
I don't know what's going on.

03:12:33.380 --> 03:12:39.420
I neglected to make any notes on this one because I just remembered while we were talking that I wanted to put this in here.

03:12:39.580 --> 03:12:40.540
So I don't know where they're from.

03:12:40.540 --> 03:12:42.940
I don't know anything about them, but it's kind of cool.

03:12:43.640 --> 03:12:44.300
That's very cool.

03:12:45.440 --> 03:12:49.720
Then we have Cadaver Soiree to betray the creator.

03:12:50.080 --> 03:12:52.280
It's a UK death metal band.

03:12:52.420 --> 03:12:55.480
It's their first album, and it's pretty damn good.

03:12:55.840 --> 03:13:23.180
I don't know a lot of words, but that would be cadaver party, would it not? Yes, yes. It's a cadaver soiree. It's death metal with, it's classy death metal. Cadaver in the title. Nice. Yeah. Cadaver circulation, which is a great title, by the way. Yeah. Then we have the second album from German death metal band, Colonel Toom, Abhorrent Veneration.

03:13:26.500 --> 03:13:55.440
There's a lot of C bands for some reason. And I'm surprised that John didn't mention this one, but I'll pick it up for him. Argentinean prog death band, Catacomb, Unalatable Internal Process. I forgot about that. I did listen to it. It's good. It's good stuff. And another one from the C category, Corpse Flesh, Rearranged with a 12-gauge Australian Death Metal. It was pretty good. Wow.

03:13:56.779 --> 03:14:24.800
We're going to jump a few letters down the alphabet to Kitzer with a K. Where the Light Ends. It's a German death metal band. It's their seventh album. How I haven't heard of them until now, I don't know, but I really dug that. And the new and second album from The Negative Bias, Narcissus Rising, Austrian black metal. This is some serious shit. You need to listen to this. If you're going to ignore all the other stuff I listened to, listen to this.

03:14:24.860 --> 03:14:30.720
The Negative Bias.

03:14:31.199 --> 03:14:32.040
That's the name of the band?

03:14:32.400 --> 03:14:34.960
That's the name of the band, yes. It's called Narcissus Rising.

03:14:35.540 --> 03:14:37.720
There's only two songs. They're like 20 minutes each.

03:14:38.580 --> 03:14:39.620
And it's good.

03:14:39.940 --> 03:14:41.780
And their first album is good, too.

03:14:42.600 --> 03:14:47.440
Based on this, I went back and I'd heard of them, but for whatever reason, never really clicked.

03:14:48.020 --> 03:14:50.980
And so I went back and listened to the first album, too, and it is also good.

03:14:51.340 --> 03:14:52.320
So check them out.

03:14:53.020 --> 03:14:53.740
Will do, George.

03:14:54.180 --> 03:14:54.360
On it.

03:14:54.460 --> 03:15:23.560
And finally, my last choice is the second solo album from Raga Johansson. Oh, yeah. To the other where he is like the Swedish death metal king. He is in like 50,000 bands down among the dead men, revolting, paganizer, rib spreader, you know, a dozen more than a dozen other bands. This guy is consistent and prolific.

03:15:23.600 --> 03:15:49.640
And you should check this out. I like that record, too. I think it was in the box or something a while back. It is. We've had a long time, yeah. Yeah, I've listened to that one. It's good. I enjoy it. Yeah. All right. And there you have it. Woo-hoo! All right. Well, as you know, Matt is in Germany attending the Wacken Festival, and I prearranged with Matt that we would Skype him in at the last minute so that he could give us an update.

03:15:55.399 --> 03:16:14.880
This is Matt. So, uh, Matt, what are your impressions of Wacken this year? Uh-huh. So, uh, are you seeing a lot of good bands?

03:16:28.479 --> 03:16:53.100
Right. So I know when we were there, there was a lot of mud. Is there a lot of mud there this year? Dankeschön. Wir sind die Kantina Band. Wenn ihr Songwünsche habt, ruft sie einfach. Spiel denselben Song nochmal. Alles klar, denselben Song und los. Okay, okay. Well, at least tell me you're having a good time. It's a little salty, but it's not bad. All right. Thanks, Matt. We'll see you when you get back.

03:16:54.380 --> 03:17:23.540
Okay, so we are now at the end of the episode. I want to thank Sean for coming on. You should go on Bandcamp. Tell people where they can get all your stuff. Yeah, Bandcamp is probably the best place. We have a website that directs you to all the social media, Instagram, all that stuff. So two years ago, I never had any social media. Now I'm on everything. So yeah, so gate to the morning.com is good. And Bandcamp is probably the best way.

03:17:23.600 --> 03:17:53.140
to pick up the album. Yep, so go check it out. Buy it. Support Sean and the band. You know, there are interviews we do, seriously, over the course of the couple years that we've been doing this. Five years, thank you. Time flies. And I honestly, and I just think, man, I'm glad I met that guy. I'm really glad we talked to you today, Sean. I think you're a lot of fun and just like a bright, normal, down-to-earth dude. I want to remember this one, and I'm hoping we're going to run into you in person. I hope so. I really do. It's been a lot of fun.

03:17:53.240 --> 03:18:23.200
Seriously, I really appreciate you guys having me on. I have a good feeling we will all cross paths at some point. Yeah, let us know. Will Books shows at Atlas Brew Works in D.C. if you guys need a D.C. show. He can probably make it happen. I don't want to speak for Will, but I would guess that he can probably make it happen. No, it's kind of funny because I think the guy from Varaha, Fabio, posted something and somebody from D.C. commented saying, I would love to have you guys at

03:18:23.240 --> 03:18:24.880
So it might have been him actually

03:18:25.160 --> 03:18:26.280
It probably was

03:18:26.880 --> 03:18:29.560
Or it could have been Hassan too from Ripping Headaches

03:18:31.520 --> 03:18:32.420
Hassan does a lot of

03:18:32.460 --> 03:18:33.760
He promotes a lot of shows at Atlas

03:18:33.840 --> 03:18:34.920
So that's a good sign

03:18:35.960 --> 03:18:37.740
I'll go back and look at the post again

03:18:37.840 --> 03:18:39.760
But somebody mentioned that so it rings a bell

03:18:41.680 --> 03:18:42.480
Small world

03:18:43.119 --> 03:18:44.140
Thank you guys again

03:18:44.200 --> 03:18:44.920
Really appreciate it

03:18:46.000 --> 03:18:47.000
Thanks for coming on

03:18:47.260 --> 03:18:50.382
It took us a while via email but we finally got to do it

03:18:50.380 --> 03:19:19.660
So I'd like to amend my previous comments. Small world. But I wouldn't want to paint it. Oh, which which. OK, that's got to I got to bring this up. Like next weekend, John and Will and I are going to see Kiss on their road to end of whatever tour. Part 27. And the opening band is a painter. God bless it.

03:19:21.100 --> 03:19:50.360
Some guy, he's a painter. They don't even have an opening band. They have an opening painter. He's going to paint scenes from the tour or something. I assume there's going to be a lot of boobs. Well, that sounds way more. I would definitely see the painter over Kiss. So that sounds way more. What could be more slow and boring than watching Kiss? Literally watching. Watching paint dry. Please, please, please let it be some stand-up comedian who's basically doing the

03:19:50.380 --> 03:20:20.160
that would be brilliant. Hey, I'm going to a Bob Ross painting seminar or something like that coming up in the fall. Are you going to learn how to talk in whispers, John? I thought he was dead. He is. But that doesn't matter. But his method lives on, George. No, apparently his artwork is not. He explicitly said he didn't want it to be displayed, but there's one caveat that can do it.

03:20:20.200 --> 03:20:25.220
So we're going

03:20:26.140 --> 03:20:27.920
If I can paint happy little trees

03:20:28.050 --> 03:20:29.420
and I can't draw a stick figure

03:20:29.490 --> 03:20:30.420
and I can pull that off

03:20:31.140 --> 03:20:33.860
Well hell, I mean I have no artistic talent whatsoever

03:20:34.260 --> 03:20:36.180
but you throw a little wine in me

03:20:36.290 --> 03:20:37.802
at one of these paint

03:20:38.350 --> 03:20:39.800
and drink wine places, I'll do it

03:20:41.179 --> 03:20:42.060
I accidentally

03:20:42.410 --> 03:20:43.600
created a panopticon artwork

03:20:43.870 --> 03:20:45.240
so what are you going to do?

03:20:48.290 --> 03:20:50.160

03:22:23.340 --> 03:22:30.260
